Came here for a scheduled appointment for state inspection. After waiting 40 min, they informed me that the "inspection machine" was broken and they could not provide this service. It is hard to fathom how it would take them that long to figure that out. My car had not been moved at all--it was clear they had not done anything. Additionally, they stated they would call when the machine was repaired, which they never did. Have never run into this in years of getting inspections elsewhere. I was going to go to BJ's tire center, but the employee who answered the phone seemed distracted and as if he didn't really care about my question. I THEN decided to give Atlantic tire & service a call. The person (a guy) who answered was very friendly and got me on the schedule the next day. Upon arrival, I signed in and sat in the very CLEAN waiting room. They took my car back at the scheduled time and were honest about the issue that was occurring. The guy I spoke with (didn't pick up name), was very helpful and patient with answering my questions and ensuring I understood the issue with my car. To top it all off, all employees were wearing face masks (to prevent the spread of COVID-19) at all times- this made me feel that they respected each other and the safety of their customers. Stopped by first thing in the morning because I had a slow leak on 1 tire from the valve. Was met by a very friendly associate who immediately checked my tire and fixed it on the spot (yep, the valve was loose). He then checked the 3 other tires to ensure the valves were snug before sending me around to the bay to get my pressure leveled up on all tires. I'm extremely grateful for the friendliness, quick service and extra attention to detail to get me fixed up and on my way within minutes. And with no charge. Ever since I moved from Cary, which was just a few minutes from the shop, it has been hard to find a mechanic that you trust. Now that I live in Durham, I have realized that it is worth the drive. I had an issue with my ignition or starter. However the guys were unable to find the issue, because they started my vehicle dozens of times without an issue. Since they were unable to nail down the issue, they did not charge me a diagnostic fee. They even kept my vehicle over the weekend and tried several more times to crank my vehicle. My wife only needed two new front tires and an inspection. Martin "Marty" Benson suggested changing all four tires before he even looked at the other two, which we quickly declined. Martin took advantage of our situation and added at least $50 extra charges to our bill, which we did not want or ask for. I recently went to get two cars inspected for my North Carolina registration and this location was super fast. The guy at the front counter was friendly and very knowledgeable. I did call and made an appointment. They are super busy. But the were able to get both cars done on time. I didn't have to wait that long. Also they have a waiting room which is very clean. People wore their mask and socially distant themselves so I felt very safe and comfortable. I would definitely recommend this place for car inspections. Also I did come here previously to check my tire pressure. It was free and they were very nice about it. They explained that tires lose air due to the weather and they proceeded to fill my tires up. Took my car in for a state inspection. Didn't have a great experience. A little background: We bought our vehicle a few months ago, and it was inspected by both the dealer and my independent mobile mechanic (who unfortunately can't do state inspections, but nonetheless was able to verify everything was working OK). I also checked all the lights before taking it in as state inspections should be fairly routine. After waiting a while to get the vehicle inspected, the service rep comes out to the lobby and tells me my brake light is out. I tell him "no it's not." He asks "it isn't?" I repeat, "No, it's not out. I checked the lights right before coming here. And, my mechanic also checked the car a few weeks ago. Everything was working before I came in." Service rep got defensive and said "oh... it must be the license plate light then." At this point, something seemed "off". I told the rep again that everything seemed OK before bringing it in and assured me that they didn't do anything to my vehicle to cause it. Sure enough, the license plate light was out. I visually inspected it in their shop and wiggled the plastic bulb cover to see if it had already been removed. The cover was firmly in place. They said they'd fail it unless I had the license plate light replaced so... what am I going to do? Pay for an inspection twice? I let them replace the light. When I got home, I saw they didn't put the plate light back on correctly. It's loose and sort of wiggling around where before, it was in there nice and snug. It looks like they snapped one of the retaining clips. Something is fishy about this place. Not sure whether my plate light was tampered with, but I do know they broke the plastic housing during the bulb replacement and never mentioned it. It was probably a mistake to take it here. Now I have to -- ironically -- fix the plate bulb assembly that they allegedly inspected and deemed "safe" per the state inspection process. Oi. read more

I brought my car in for an air pressure issue with a tire. What I thought was a valve stem turned out to be a unrepairable nail positioned in the outer portion of the tire. They did not charge me for looking at the tire. They gave me a quote for a replacement and after checking to see if I had hazard coverage, I asked them to order a tire. I came back the next morning and was in and out in no time. If you have to wait, they have a comfortable waiting room with TV, free WI-FI, vending machines and reading material. There are places to eat in the shopping center next door. All of the people behind the counter were professional and courteous. My first visit will not be my last. These guys are terrible. When I came to pick up my car it was damaged because one of the advisors had backed it into another car. I understand that accidents happen but if they do, I expect that every effort is taken to mitigate the stress of repairs. That did not happen. Arrived 15 min early, staff was friendly and told me it would be about 45 minutes to get me done. 2 and a half hours later after asking how much longer, they told me they had not started yet and therefore at least another 45 minutes. Sketchy to say the least. I had a nail in my back tire so I brought it in. I was told I needed two new tires so I asked them to put them on the front of the car and replace the back tires with the front tires. A few weeks later I noticed the back tire was looking flat and found that it was the same tire, with the same nail! They only put the new tires on the front and didn't replace the back ones. When I went to complain, I was only offered 50% off the cost of getting the tire with the nail replace. I would avoid this place unless you want to be taken advantage of.... read more

Excellent service! I called and made an appt for later that day for a an oil change. They were so fast and efficient I was so impressed! You choose a service package (basic, full synthetic or an even more upgraded package), and you can sit in their comfy waiting room in the meantime. They had WiFi, coffee and comfy couches. I was in and out in less than 45 min! They did a great job and $40 for a basic oil change was a great price. read more

I came here since they offered a corporate discount on tires which turned out to be around $3 off per tire. It would've been cheaper to go to a dealership that offers free alignment. And then they didn't put my hub cap back on all the way after installing tires so it was squeaking loudly. They attempted to fix the hub cap and I left, but realized a day later the wheel area still makes noise. I went back and they applied some type of oil to prevent the squeaking from my hub cap and said my hub caps could be getting old and losing durability. Before bringing my 4 year old car (which I bought brand new) in for tires I had no issues with loose hub caps or noise. Will not be returning. read more

On Friday 8.2.19 on the way to work, I ran over something that punctured my tire. I called Atlantic Tire on Miami Blvd in Durham as they are right by my work. They said they could probably patch the tire. I took the car there. I received a call stating that while they were removing the wheel lock nut it "broke". I was told that they were going to try to get it removed without too much effort. I get a call a while later and was told that it did not work and they were going to have to drill out the wheel stud and that it was going to cost me $200+ in labor to do so. I am not happy that I had to pay $239.80 for labor and $15 for a wheel stud when they broke something that was not broken when I took it in. In addition, they scratched up my wheel. I don't think it's fair and I think they were taking advantage because I'm a female. I will never take anything back there and will let anyone knows that asks not to take their vehicle there either. read more

Atlantic tire responded to my entry... I'd like to follow-up as Yelp has a limit for what I can put into one rating. Regarding my Jeep and the $1000.00 quote from Alantic Tire for five new tires. As I said, when Davis quoted me the $1000.00 he had agreed to work with Bridgestone on any discount they could provide. But when it came to handing me the actual quote, he told me "I" would need to negotiate the discount. That was all well and good. But after burning several bridges with me (on my other car) I went to Discount Tire. I wound up working with the Mfg and decided to try a competitor. I asked Bridgestone if they could work with them and everything came out fine. The $1000.00 quote for 5 tires from Atlantic wound up costing me just at $600.00 at Discount Tire. If I needed to do my own legwork, I will get to the root of an issue. There is a pattern here. Back to my car. The tires I originally had put on my car cost near $800 installed and alignment in 2012. They wore out prematurely. Despite me taking the car back to get the steering wheel slant corrected, the incorrect camber setting was causing the wear. BMW is a performace suspension system. It calls for a weighted Alignment which means 200lb sand bags are needed in 4 seats to properly set the alignment. Wear is common. But you also circumvent premature wear as much as possibble by rotating the tires. As I said, I took it in for rotation 1 week prior to an oil change. 1 week later, I got an oil change and they rotated the tires back to the original location. This, and the camber setting is what wore the tires out prematurly. After the refusal to honor a simple rotation and repairing the screw in the tire, (which I paid for) I took my car and my Atlantic Tire sales receipt into Discount Tire in Raleigh. The sales folks there don't work off commission. Discount Tire contacted the mfg (on my behalf) and were able to provide me a credit of $69.00 per tire, towards new Continentals, which I recently had put on. Had Atlantic Tire offered to work with me on this issue, I wouldn't be writing this response. But BECAUSE I understand the sales practices and UNDERSTAND the consumer end, I disagree with your assessment. In fact, so do several other people writing reviews about your sales practices. I know this practice, I worked on cars in my 20's and know the safety grill. Regardless of training and ANSI specs, tolerances for brake pads, and setting up alignments and/or replacement of parts it's all often left to interpretation. I'll never command safety last, but if you know a little bit about cars, you can use common sense to prevail a marginal or even unwarrented repair. Personally, I've been the delivery guy. Sometimes it was bad news. Many other times obselesence can be guaged and NOT at the expense of the consumer. I'm sure, not ALL of Atlantic Tire repairs are less than questionable. Readers can read reviews and decide for themselves. For me, I have decided. I know the automotive repair sales tactics. It's many times an unitentional but very preditory in nature. I know better. And this is why we have Yelp. read more

Had gotten new tires installed at Atlantic and 1 tire kept losing air. Called Atlantic and they accommodated me the next day. Drove in and out in less then 30 mins. Apparently the tires stem valve was leaking air, which they replaced for free. Staff wasn't sure if the TPMS sensor needed replacement ($100+), so I gambled and decided to keep the old one. The dashboard TPMS light initially lit up, but after driving a few miles, it turned off - so the original sensor was working just fine. read more

Placed in a situation where we needed to replace trailer tires away from home, we found this shop near our hotel. It's a busy shop, 10 bays - all in use with commercial and personal vehicles. The facilities were clean and cameras were set up on the perimeter; though, it's a quiet part of town. The staff had our tires waiting; but since we arrived around 5pm Friday, they had it ready to go by 9am Saturday morning. Thank you Max and Danny and the guys who worked on our trailer. I don't always leave reviews, but when I do, I choose to when a business is exceptional. First I've always had excellent work. In the few events something had to be covered under warranty, service was hassle free. They know where I work and my income, and that I look like a dumb dweeby kid, but I've never ever felt like I couldn't open my wallet around these guys. As a matter of fact they volunteer more information than any other shop when I tell them most work that I don't need a tow for I get done by my family mechanic. Very helpful, very courteous, very good! Did I mention free wifi, shuttle and Keurig coffee?!? The only downside is a few years ago they switched creditors, but that's ok it hasn't happened again in the last couple years. Just forced me to pay the thing off! I unexpectedly needed a nearby tire shop for a screw in my tire so I turned to Yelp. This was the first place I called and I was relieved to make a same day appointment. Here is what I liked: the mechanic took me back to look at my tire and discuss, he gave me multiple options so I did not feel pressured, and he did not try to sell me more tires than I needed. It has been a while since I needed just one tire and I forgot how expensive they are. When they gave me a price quote, I did call another shop to compare and found that Atlantic Tire was $5 cheaper. They did not have my particular tire on hand so I had to come back in two hours but the shop was nearby and the fact that I got everything done the same day out weighed the inconvenience. The staff was friendly and their waiting room is spacious. It is hard to evaluate if I would come back for regular service as I am locked into my car dealership right now due to the warranty. However, I am pleased with their service for this particular instance. read more

On Friday, 2/24/2017, I called in the early afternoon to schedule an appointment that evening to have 4 tires replaced. Two days prior, I dropped by and spoke to Mark Carpenter about a quote on a particular "knock-off" brand (cheaper) tire. I received a quote from a competitor just minutes prior and wanted to do some price comparisons. The price at Atlantic was cheaper (with cheaper road hazard and alignment fees). When I called last Friday about the appointment and discussed the quote, they no longer had the same tires in inventory but offered a higher quality tire at the same price. This is great customer service. They were able to accommodate my appoint (short-notice) and upgraded my tires since the previously quoted tires were out of stock. At first, I was shopping for cheaper tires because I didn't enjoy the ride of my Land Rover any longer and was seriously considering trading it in on a different vehicle. I've used Atlantic in the past with no issues. My recent visit for new tires just felt like one up sell after another. First it was the wiper blades (they are just three weeks old) then it was an air filter then the battery cables and lastly a wheel alignment.
