It came to a surprise when I walked into this restaurant on a Friday night. As always I had expected most restaurants to be packed on a Friday night. When I first walked in I noticed the place was empty which concerned me. Immediately I was greeted by a very sweet lady & Korean pop music displayed on a large screen tv mounted on the wall. The atmosphere overall was calm n' quiet. After experiencing Korean restaurants all around Jersey, I had already known the main entrees & was looking for good quality Korean food. We had ordered a hot stone version of vegetable bibimbop & the dish with the shredded beef on onions. Within 5-10 mins our food came out hot & tasted just as good as the other Korean restaurants like BCD Tofu House & So Gong Dong. After getting a little disappointed by another non-Ft.Lee/PalPark/Leonia area sundubu spot in a neighboring town, I was kinda iffy trying out another nearby sundubu spot. Sundubu is my absolute favorite Korean dish in ANY season (yeah you'll see me slurping dem red broth for lunch in the middle of the hottest day of the summer, yum!) and there are only few places in Bergen County side that I would go to if I really want sundubu. But one Sunday afternoon, thanks to the blue laws, I happened to be at the Willowbrook mall and wanted to have a non-mall-food lunch. Hence, I ended up here. Mr. Tofu House is located in a small strip mall across from the Wayne NJ Transit train station. It wasn't too busy since I came around an awkward 2pm after the lunch crowd disappeared. Never knew this place existed. Driving past it, you might not give it any notice. It is in a small strip mall and the name "Mr. Tofu House" implies that it might be some kind of vegan establishment. It is actually a very authentic family owned Korean restaurant. I only found it because I read the reviews on Yelp. Not your typical Korean barbecue type of place, but more of the real ethnic stuff like traditional soups, Kinchee pancakes and Bi Bim Bap. Although you can definitely order a vegetarian meal, there are plenty of meat dishes and this place is NOT vegan. The atmosphere is kinda plain but the hosts are very friendly and the service was fast contrary to what some other reviewers reported. Unassuming strip mall restaurant that is really delicious. I went with mixed seafood tofu soup, which came out piping hot and spice level was perfect (I usually order spicy but followed review advice and went with normal). Came here tonight with a group of friends on a Sunday night and had a great time. It was easy to get a seat and we did not have to wait. Our waitress was very very pleasant. I spilt a ton of water because I can't go anywhere without making a mess and the waitress was the one apologizing to me! The only down side was I was never given a new glass of water until after I had already been eating for 45 minutes. We all ordered soups and shared a plated of the pork barbecue. The BBQ pork was delicious and it came with onions that were dripping in the juice so good. I ate the kimchi tofu soup medium spiciness. It was a sunny winter lunch at a very relaxed dinner place-the Mr. Tofu. One day after the Christmas, when most of the people go back to their office for a post-holiday chat or the mall for post-holiday merchant return, we came to this place. there was only a handful of guest, and our host gave us enough attention. Mr. Tofu House in Wayne is a little gem in Wayne. Located in a strip mall on Mountainview, you can get some delicious Korean food. The servers are super friendly and welcoming. I like the scallion pancake and ramen. Their banchan is so tasty, too. They have some good lunch deals. I highly recommend Mr. Tofu House for a good meal. We were craving sundubu on the first of the year and, while we usually go to BCD tofu house in ktown, we were still in NJ. This joint has decent reviews, and I guess I'll be contributing to that. For the record, if I were trying sundubu for the first time I would certainly give it four stars. However, because I've had it in NYC, I have to give three. We both ordered the seafood sundubu (as is tradition), and she got hot and I got regular spicy-ness. I was pleased with how spicy the dish was -- just hot enough, as another reviewer had said -- but I don't think the sundubu had much flavor or dimension; it tasted pretty flat. There also wasn't much seafood in it, or the bowl was smaller, or something... there was just something missing such that I felt like I wasn't getting the most bang for my buck. Perhaps my experiences in NYC have ruined other Korean restaurants for me. We also only got four ban chan dishes when, again, you usually get like seven dishes at BCD in NYC or fort lee (including a fried fish!). In any event, for a close-by Korean joint, this place was pretty okay. I wouldn't drive far for it, but since it's located close by, I might come back if I were craving Korean. Asked for steamed egg on side, did not receive it. Waitress was super nice but did not come to check in on my (i was alone in the restaurant). So no steamed egg for me. Came here on 2/19/2019 after listing to our neighbor raving about this place for years. All we (my wife and I) can say is overall... "Excellent!" The food (we all had different tofu soups) were all terrific. Not one complaint. The service was also very friendly and prompt. If I have one criticism it would be that the interior is a bit stark. Very clean... just a little too bright and 'plain,' but not so bad that I won't be back. We all shared some marinated beef ribs along with about 6 different small bowls of 'amuse bouche'. My wife had the "F8"... soup made from the spine of pork, with potatoes, cabbage and other veggies. A large bowl but there were a lot of bones. I had the "F9"... soup made with thinly sliced beef, mushrooms, glass noodles and veggies in a 'hot pot.' Just amazing. My neighbors had tofu soups which they loved. The restaurant itself is modern, bright, and clean even though the curb appeal of this unassuming strip mall in this area of Wayne may suggest otherwise. We also had the seafood pancake which is doughier in texture than I would like, but that didn't stop us from polishing it off. The spicy level is on the conservative side. Simply the best Korean restaurant in the area. I love coming here and the owner / server is always very friendly and cheerful. I love it so much here I occasionally bring take out of Soondobu [Tofu soup] to my co workers and they just loved the tofu soup. I always ask to make it spicy hot. All other food is great too. We entered pretty late at night at around 8, so there were not too many people in the restaurant. Not sure if it was nice and quiet because of the lack of people or because of the atmosphere. I enjoyed the k-pop music they played in the background. The owner is a Korean woman who seemed very nice and came whenever we called her. They served us some complimentary appetizers before serving us our main dish. We ordered about 67 dollars worth of food not including tip for 3 people. The food was definitely quality and very tasty. I love going here. I am a big fan of tteokbokki which they serve as part of the pre-meal as well as egg casserole and a few other items like kimchi. I wish the tteokbokki was something I could order as a meal. The chicken bulgogi is extremely filling that it can feed two people. This place is just overwhelming with loads of delicious filling foods well worth the money. The people who work there are friendly and sweet. I have eaten here several times and the only complaint I have is that they play the same rotation of Kpop songs on their TV with videos of some immodestly dressed women that I don't want my children seeing.
