Seoul Galbi has been one of my favorite Korean BBQ restaurants. Remotely located(a single building of its own)in Paramus, NJ, it always allows for a moment of relaxation whenever I visit here. Not so busy during weekdays or lunch time, but you may need to wait for a while for Saturday or Sunday dinner. Marinated Galbi and Rib-eye Steak are always solid choice, paired with lots of side dishes including doenjang/kimchi jjige and steamed egg. The service (specifically the larger dining area on the left) is superb. My family routinely has been visiting once a month for the past couple of years. Recently (Q1 in 2024), some meats were not as good as before, but I hope it was just one or two bad timing/ either not-enough marinated meat or quality of beef. Will visit again soon and I hope I can write a 5-star review next time. read more

For a restaurant named after Korean BBQ, I'm slightly ashamed to admit I've never tried their meats. That said, this restaurant is one of few decent Korean spots outside of Fort Lee and Palisades Park. As such, it's become a return spot for our family members who live fairly local. As soon as you sit down, the default beverage offered is warm barley tea (which is much appreciated during those colder winter visits). The banchan, or side dishes, are few but a little more robust here than other Korean restaurants. During my last visit, we were given plates of standard kimchi, sprouts, and seasoned broccoli. I was also surprised to find pumpkin-egg salad, soy marinated lotus root, and soy-marinated ribeye pieces. The offerings change a little from visit to visit, but they're always decent to downright delicious. While I've not been wowed by anything from the menu, I've found most of the meals to be predictable. Hot stone bibimbap is my regular order, and I love the different proteins they offer here for mixed rice dishes. For those curious about the barbecue but unwilling to pay the high sticker price for a full entree, you can try the galbi, bulgogi, and spicy pork atop a bibimbap. During my last visit, I was delighted by the salmon hot stone bibimbap, which came with a great teriyaki marinade. My regular complaint with Seoul Galbi's bibimbap is that the hot stone has never gotten hot enough for my rice to char and crisp (which is arguably the best part of ordering it on a hot stone. Otherwise, why else would one pay the elevated prices?). When it comes to decor and ambiance, the restaurant is fairly no frills. As far as service goes, the waitresses have always been quick - quick to order, quick to serve, and quick to refill glasses (or, when asked, the side dishes). I also appreciate how slow they are to deliver the check, allowing conversations to linger. This was my first time having Korean food. The menu was written in Korean and English but I still needed help deciphering what I could eat because of my allergies. Our server spoke little English but used a translation app to assist. She was nice and friendly. The tables were spread out along the walls of the restaurant allowing for a spacious atmosphere. I really enjoyed learning about and eating new flavors. It is interesting how our palates adapt. I enjoyed my meal and look forward to going back. Solid Korean food in an area void of Korean restaurants. I haven't had Korean bbq items here but have had a number of the other entrees. All of the food I've had here is pretty good and compares favorably to the well-known Korean restaurants in the Palisades Park/Fort Lee area. They give a good amount of banchan (side dishes). Nothing special about the interior. Staff is prompt and easily accessible should you need anything. Prices are a little bit higher than normal, including the lunch specials, but not egregious since they have a monopoly on Korean food in the area. read more

We came her for the first time with friends. This place was confusing at first because Yelp page did say they have a bar but website was not clear. When I called I asked if they have a bar and served and was told no. So I brought wine and beer and when we arrived then do have beer, wine, sake as well as liquor, to clear that up. This spot was good, but not quite up to par. It's a Korean bbq spot with tofu soups. I went with the special combo: galbi, bulogi, and chicken. Do not get the chicken. It was rubbery in texture and not flavorful at all. As for the meats they were okay, but on the fattier side. I expected a better cut of meat, but what can you do. Most important part is the grill. Not a fan of this type of grill since the flames never hit the meat. I like the flame cooking the meat to give it a tastier experience. Plus, it was a gas flame so it wouldn't have been great flavor. Came here with the girls and overall had a ok experience. This was our first time here so was kind of hard to understand what the side dishes were and the server couldn't really understand/explain but she was nice and tried her best. Typically I've seen at KBBq places you cook your own food however, here the server wouldn't let us. When we tried she ran over and said no she does it and even ended up taking the tongs with her. I was also a little taken back as I don't eat pork or red meat so I ordered shrimp however she kept mixing my shrimp over with the meat and even using the same tongs. Delicious! Good service in a clean, albeit dingy, restaurant. As a group of four, we ordered japchae, dumplings, and edamame as appetizers. They were all good, but I'd skip the dumplings as bland and focus on the japchae. We split bulgogi, galbi bimimbap, and ton katsu as entrees. The banchan was delish. I was smitten with the salad that accompanied the ton katsu, which was just a simple spinach salad with a scrumptious ginger dressing. I could have eaten a bucket of it. No outdoor dining. They have big outdoor tents behind the restaurant that they have not used since the fall. We called them and our first question over the phone was, do you have outdoor dining? Yes. Can we barbeque outdoors? Yes. Can we make a reservation for 8 people at 6 pm for outdoor dining? Yes. Just to confirm, this is for outdoor dining? Yes. Came to the restaurant stating that four of our party of eight were here for the outdoor dining. They told us to wait until our whole party was here. Came back in when the whole party was here and they told us we had to sit inside. Now imagine the chaos that ensued as we frantically started yelping for alternatives in front of this restaurant with four hungry kids under 3. This is the kbbq place local Koreans go to when they want kbbq but they're not willing to make the trip out to Fort Lee or Pal Park. Also for the older Korean gentlemen playing golf across the street and want an immediate kbbq/soju fix right after golf. Including me and my family. I was out to dinner with my parents and kids when we ran into my husband and his friends who happened to already be there after a round of golf across the street. I've been coming here for years and unfortunately, last night will probably be the last time (at least for Kalbi/BBQ). A lot of restaurants have been raising prices, but this place decided to raise prices and shrink portions. Their Kalbi is now sliced thinner and is fit for a kid's meal. You have to respect your customers more than that. This likely explains the less crowded dining room on a Saturday night. I want this place to succeed, but I predict they don't unless they change something quickly. read more

Our first family gathering in a while, took place here at Seoul Galbi. My party of 10 sat in one of their outdoor tents in the back. It was a nice setup where each table had its own tent. It was so great to eat Korean food again in person vs take out. We ordered Galbi of course, bulgogi, and pork belly which we grilled over their portable stove. We had chicken, bulgogi, and tongue combination , which you pick two, then the third one is free menu. Well it was good volume of meat and cost me $100 total. The chicken was breast. It was very dry and didn't taste good. Tongues and bulgogi were okay. The appetizers were so so. Typical, broccoli, bean sprout, kimchi, pickled radish, etc. None of them were tasteful and bit disappointed. Interior is nice and quiet. Service was blunt. Came here for lunch and the food was solid. They have a wide selections of lunch specials that range from $9 to $20. We ordered a Galbi bibimbap, a beef bone noodle soup, and a Korean Chirashi. Great food! Nice and clean set up inside with clean grills for BBQ. Servers are very nice and accommodating. Individual tents per table set up outside. Social distancing at its best. They give you a probiotic yogurt drink after your meal, which I really appreciate. The last time I was there, I ordered the yukgaejang and it was so delicious--comforting hot soup with just the right amount of spice, scallions, eggs, perfectly cooked noodles and melt-in-your-mouth shredded beef. This place was good for Korean bbq. We were able to get a table last minute for 5 people on a busy Saturday, It's in a cute house on Paramus Road with ample parking. We had the meat combo; bulgogi, kalbi, with seafood pancake. Good portions and seasoned nicely. The side dishes were good as well as the tofu soup. Good side dishes that were refilled as we wished. Love their kimchi which was fresh. Service was friendly and the waitress cooked the meat table side for us. If you are in Paramus, definitely check out this place. read more

I originally went to this place because I didn't want an all you can eat Korean bbq because it's about 45-50 a person and I usually only order one or two things and I'm full. I came here it's a cute secluded spot and the food was delicious the staff was super helpful and kind she recommended non pork options she thought we'd like and showed us how to eat it with the sides and sauces it comes with, the meat is great quality and taste delicious I totally would recommend the only downside is this place is expensive we're not big eaters at all and the three of us paid about $200 dollars read more

This is a nice friendly Korean Barbecue restaurant that also serves all kinds of authentic Korean soups, stews, bibimbap food. They seem to grow their own vegetables to prepare for many fresh dishes. First, the welcoming workers will ask if you will eat Korean Barbecue. This allows the waitress to have you sit in a table setting made to cook the delicious barbecue kalbi in front of you. You can also order an already barbecued KAlbi takeout that comes with the fresh red lettuce and bean paste dip. This restaurant doesn't seem to appear in the general name "Korean Barbecue" if you search in Yelp since it has the name Seoul in front of the word Barbecue unless you type the location in Paramus. I recommend them since they did not change the food to the liking of the western palate. read more

The service here was good. Everyone was nice and there was one amazing lady taking care of ALL tables by herself, about 5 or 6, and she didnt miss a beat. However, I guess I came here with super high expectations for the food. One of my favorite restaurants that is similiar to this is Gyu Kaku in NY .. and so I was kind of comparing it to that place, and so the food did not meat my expectations at all. I wasnt a huge fan of the dumplings, probably because they were mixed meat. And the meat, in my opinion could have been seasoned a bit more.. or seasoned period. Didnt really enjoy the meat at all or the sauces that came along with it. Even the white rice wasnt the best, and I eat white rice anywhere, and prefer it nice and sticky. The best part of my meal was the salad, very tasty. Just wasnt it for me. I will say my fiancé did enjoy his meal, and we pretty much shared everything, super large portions of meat come out. Hes all into veggies and thought the veggies were really good, and also enjoyed the salad just as much as I did. He wasnt a fan of the pork belly but did enjoy his sirloin. Setting and Service 3/5: so so service, yes they do help with the bbq but that's just standard service in Korean bbq so that's not a plus. Korean bbq are often expensive which is also the case in this restaurant and tip is often % of the bill so it is expected to be better be default. For example, no one asked our party of 8 if we wanted lettuce with the meat, we had to ask to get some. Service is not only to meet requests but also knowing how to initiate it. Taste and Presentation 3/5: Just okay, the meat doesn't feel like good quality, perhaps I should have taken some pictures. I expected better due to pricing. Cost 2.5/5: Pretty standard but a bit on the higher end as it is not exactly in a major city center. This could be due to lack of competition in the area. Overall between 2.5/5-3/5: it is a decent place if you're looking for decent bbq but I wouldn't consider this a good place. You'll have better service and more bang for your buck if you're in Korean town and street. read more

I want to give 3.5 stars, but rounding up to 4 for service. We arrived at the restaurant on a Sunday night at around 7pm and the parking lot was pretty full, so we expected to wait. We only had to wait around 5 minutes to be seated though. Once seated, we were given menus and the table was set up. Service was pretty quick here and the waitress came quickly to take our order. They have individual orders for bbq but we opted for a set. We chose #56 which consisted of galbi, bulgogi, and pork belly. We also ordered a galbi tang which came with rice. First off... the galbi tasted tender when it was first cooked, which I really enjoyed. However, they leave the meat on the grill and overcooked everything... The pork belly was alright, I could've done without it. The bulgogi... it was too thick and didn't have much flavor. We didn't finish the bulgogi, but the rest was mostly finished, only cause we don't like to waste food. The galbi tang was a winner in our book. It was light and the galbi easily came off the bone. The galbi tasted even better after dipping it in some sauce. The side dishes too were also very good. There were 2 that we liked more, but we were given quite a few dishes to try, might've been 6 or 7 of them. I want to mention, the grill they use, you wouldn't end up having all that hot steam and oil attacking you, but you'd still bring home the smell of bbq. At the end of dinner, we were given a plate of fruit, I believe it was a type of melon as it reminded me of honeydew which I don't eat. After tax and tip, for 3 people we paid $121 just for the two orders. We didn't order any drinks. read more

Found this place on Yelp and chanced a visit. It was super close to the place I'm staying so I drove the short distance to the restaurant. Walked in and was seated right away. Decided to have some Duk Mandoo Guk as it was a little cold outside. Perfect to get those chills out. Was given a ton of banchan and all of it was good. The soup was really good, hit the spot and sooo much! I've been here before and again was pleased by the food and the service. Great service and great food read more

Used to go here when it was Pine Hill at least once a week for lunch. Since my schedule and work venue have changed, I don't have the opportunity to stop in as much as I used to but I still do from time to time. The renovation and name change are not grand departures from its former self but rather a similar incarnation. Food is consistently good and portions are more than adequate. No matter what you order they present you with a delicious variety of side dishes which come out first so they're really more like appetizers. Of these, their fish cake and kimchi reign supreme. When I stopped there for dinner with my son a few weeks back the server told us that they had the buy two get one free promo for Korean bbq selections. Unfortunately we weren't that hungry and decided instead to split one. She actually looked and acted amazed and repulsed that we would refute such obvious generosity. Par because their service, while fairly polite and moderately attentive is often a bit curt. Perhaps it's the culture and if I'm misunderstanding, kindly forgive me. Unfortunately, I don't have much experience with Korean food beyond this location. I've never ventured out into the fold of places that seem to dot Palisades Park and parts of Fort Lee so my basis for comparison is severely limited. What I can say is that if you haven't tried them, you should and, while you might not be thrilled, you should leave full and quite happy. read more

I've sampled this menu plenty since they re-launched in 2015 -- and this casual eatery rarely disappoints. It has become my go-to Korean restaurant in the neighborhood. Despite some ponderous "lost in translation" moments during earlier visits, the service staff has upped their game -- most of the current millennial crew speaks perfect English -- and all are attentive yet restrained. Thankfully -- they allow plenty of time to enjoy your meal -- they don't rush service -- as is often the case in other Korean restaurants in Ft. Lee or Pal Pk. Much busier on weekends when they pack 'em in -- so we choose to dine here primarily on weekday evenings for a more relaxed experience. If you want privacy for 4 -- check out the little alcove table on the right as you enter. Charming spot that nicely dampens the noise from the rest of the joint -- especially nice when they get busy and loud. My favorite steamed egg starter (gyeranjjim) was glaringly absent during our early visits -- but it finally appeared during one of our later meals -- but only after asking for it. We were told It now comes automatically only with BBQ orders -- otherwise at a $2 up charge. It's ok, but not as silky as some I've had. The other banchan offerings (upwards of eight small plates) are plentiful, interesting and refilled as often as you like. There is always a play in textures and flavors with these -- pairing kimchi with marinated fish cakes, seaweed/veggies with fried mackerel, and various gelatinous preparations with Korean potato salad. Nice starters and almost a meal in themselves. I prefer their sashimi and salad bowl -- think Korean Chirashi -- (they call it "Hoedupbop" -- but I've seen it transliterated at other Korean joints as "Hwe Dup Bop"). Theirs is an excellent example of this dish -- lots of fresh tasting, thinly sliced fish, interesting greens and a side of rice to match (get the purple rice) -- plus a spicy house made Gojujang to go with. Reasonable at $16.95 and almost enough for two. The scallion pancake with seafood (at $18.95) is like an egg based frittata - fried to a nice crisp and loaded with scallions and tender squid. Served with a seasoned soy/vinegar/sesame dipping sauce -- one is plenty for 4. Their crispy rice bowls -- like bibimbop and various iterations of this dish -- are righteous. Whatever your topping of choice, the sauce from the topping percolates to the bottom of the cast iron bowl while baking -- which helps caramelize the rice like a good paella -- and make these "bops" such a texturally satisfying dish. We are steadily working our way through their extensive selection of stew pots -- most of these are loaded with a rich broth, some with exotic ingredients and organ meats -- but all with a rich depth of flavor -- think umami to the 10th power! And I've seen H-Mart delivery trucks at the restaurant several times and assume they supply SG with many of the raw materials for the menu. This is a good sign. Top tips: This is not a BYO establishment -- though they will accommodate your own stash with a corking charge -- so be prepared to either pay up -- or sample their SOJU and suds -- or just stick with the barley tea. I see displays of all sorts of whiskies too -- but I'm not sure if these are available for purchase or a private collection for select customers. Some Asian restaurants I've eaten at label large collections of whiskey bottles with a customer number or provide numbered lockers for storage -- not unlike some cigar emporiums. Also, watch out for the "3 for 2" BBQ deal. Every time I've ordered this option -- the serving portions in each order were smaller than the a la carte choices -- and the special excludes certain cuts of meat. If you are a carnivore, you can run up a big tab with the special -- rapidly. $200-$250 bucks plus tip for 4 -- without booze -- is not unusual. read more

Excellent service and social distancing enforced! The staff is so friendly and helpful. They cook the meat for you, and they have a buy 2, get 1 free from the regular meat menu. Appetizers are not worth it, but there's plenty of banchan to go around. The meat was delicious, but I recommend skipping the chicken because it doesn't soak up the marinade well.
