I was super excited to finally try some soup dumplings semi in my area about a 30 mins drive which isn't horrible. Not too spacious inside but we were lucky to grab a table for 3 right away. This is the kind of place that the workers don't speak much English or they just don't wanna chit chat. You get menus, another fill out sheet aka your order you wanna place. Waiter comes and grab them and then brings out food. No small talk no nothing not even a welcome. Which hey, socializing isn't for everyone? I didn't mind but would've been appreciated by others that never tried soup dumplings before. The soup dumplings were very soupy which is great, only one ripped while picking up. A lil tip? Let it sit for a few before trying to bite into them. The steam is no joke and the bun holds better. The pork buns were filled with flavor. The noodles? Not too sure I understood the flavors? The bubble tea was overly sweet. Overall I'll def only go back for the soup dumplings and dumplings in general. It wasn't a WOW I will die for more situation but I'll def come back for more. Gives you that Chinatown vibe where you know the food is alright and a safe place to grab decent food but for sure the service needs work. Yet you keep going back lol read more

Had lunch here after wanting to try it for a while. For drinks, we ordered the peach tea lemonade and the creme brulee matcha with boba and both were amazing. The boba had the perfect chewy texture with just the right amount of sweetness. Also, they have so many options for drinks, can't wait to try other flavors! For appetizers, we had the kimchi, cucumber salad, and fried crab wontons, all of which are good choices. We also had the seaweed and tofu miso soup, which was warm and comforting. For mains, we tried the pork bao buns, crab and pork soup dumplings, and the bao sampler platter. Everything was absolutely delicious. We will be back to try more! Service was friendly and fast and they have plenty of seating. It's a casual place to grab some boba tea and a quick meal. Delicious dumplings! There was no wait and plenty of tables available when we arrived. My husband and I shared the pork soup dumplings, chicken dumplings, and sautéed vegetables with chicken. The chicken dish came out first. It was good- nice mix of broccoli, carrots, snap peas, mushrooms, and chicken. The chicken and corn dumplings arrived next with two delicious dipping sauces. They tasted super light and fresh! The pork soup dumplings were also very delicious. The staff were very friendly and attentive. The food also came out pretty quickly which was nice. First dined here April 9, 2026. Have returned a few times since. Eaten items like the pork with scallion dumplings (both boiled & fried), noodles with minced pork sauce, wonton soup, braised beef noodle soup & sweet red bean buns (yummy). Prefer the fried dumplings but they are bite-sized so if you're hungry, best to get more food. The minced pork noodles were decent and the wonton soup was very healthy tasting. Heard the braised beef wasn't as tender as other places. Really enjoyed the sweet red bean buns for dessert. The fruit tea drinks looked popular. Appreciate how they are open "late". read more

Heard about this new dumpling place and it's pretty much across from Verona Park! Side street parking available and some in front of the place. The fried dumplings were tasty. The soup dumplings' dough was but thicker than my mom and I prefer and felt the filling needed more flavor. They didn't have much sliced ginger and vinegar either for dipping, which generally accompanies this dish in many places. Their hot and sour soup was pretty good but wishes it had more tofu, which I did ask about when ordering. However the bowl of soup came out lukewarm and we had to ask for it to be returned for reheating. Also ordered braised beef noodles but it was spicier than we thought it'd be and the noodles were thicker more like udon. Will have to try some of the I other kinds of noodles next time. I was fiening for some quick dumplings on my work trip, and I came across Bao with fantastic reviews. I actually ended up ordering off a menu without prices listed and I was very pleasantly surprised at how affordable everything came out to be. Great bang for your buck - you're getting about a dumpling per buck and they were delicious. The XLBs were decent as well, although half of them were leaking upon pickup. The boba was solid as well, but definitely not something to write home about. Stop by for dumplings, and you won't be disappointed. I wish I had one closerby. read more

Wanted try it out in particular for the soup dumplings in hopes of not having to head out to Fort Lee. The steamed dumplings were a crowd pleaser we got the shrimp pork and chive. Good flavor size and texture. The fried rice was kind of just basic and not that great flavor wise. I don't prefer the soy sauce stir fried rice. More of the takeout feel. Soup dumplings were disappointing little to no soup and the dough is really thick. As a dumpling it's fine but sadly missed the mark as a soup dumplings. Sigh. Would drop by to pick up some noodles, boba or steamed dumplings but wouldn't get the soup dumplings again unfortunately . They also have the candied fruit skewers in case you want a sweet treat. Boba is around $6.55 for most. Price wise everything was fine. Space offers decent seating inside with two smaller tables outside and one bathroom. Street parking or nearby lot only. read more

I recently visited Bao Dumplings & Bao Tea in Verona, which opened earlier this year. The Chinese food offerings in the area are limited and don't go much beyond standard Chinese American takeout fare. I previously visited their location in Kenilworth (they also have locations in Fair Lawn and Hazlet) and it was good. So, I was excited to give this location a try. The interior is bright, clean and it should be, since it's pretty much brand new. You order at a counter, and they bring you your food. On this occasion I was getting take-out. The menu is larger than you might expect and has much more than just bao and dumplings. They also offer soups, noodles, rice dishes and wok fried specialties as well as a variety of appetizers. There is also a full selection of boba and slushes, fruit teas and lemonade. On this visit I was just there for the dumplings though. They offer a Bao Sampler Platter which includes 12 dumplings. Four each of their best-selling choices. Pork with Scallions, Chicken with Corn and Beef with Onions. You can get them steamed or pan-fired. I chose steamed. They also offer a few dumpling sauces. A mustard based one that has citrus notes and a slightly sweet soy-based sauce. The cost was $13.55 before tax, which is pretty reasonable for something homemade. Perhaps my expectations were unreasonably high, but frankly the dumplings just tasted ok. I enjoyed them, but they didn't stand out as being much better than what I might get at one of those Chinese American take-out places I mentioned early. The sauces were also just ok and seemed a bit thin and lacking in flavor. It seemed like they might have been watered down. The service is friendly, but the food does take some time to come out. I won't ding any restaurant for freshly prepared food though. What I will ding them for is choosing a location that has no parking at all. Beyond the two or three street spots that seem to always be taken, there is nowhere to park. Expect to walk at least a block or two (if you're lucky). In fact, the lack of parking is the only reason I haven't been back. read more

So hard to find good authentic Chinese food nearby and I'm picky about my Asian restaurants. Happy to have found this place and I hope they do well. Get the pork and scallion fried dumplings. First visit but not our last. Staff was very attentive and eager to please. Food was exceptionally good. We ordered the dumplings sampler which is a good way to start. Our Hunan beef entree was very tasty but unfortunately short on beef. That was disappointing. We will try it again to see if it was fluke, hopefully it was. Cute little place tucked in Verona with solid dumplings. The soup dumplings unfortunately leaked because of small cracks that formed around the bottom. Out of 6 I think I had one that hadn't leaked out, and the broth was delicious. The crab wasn't obvious in the pork and crab soup dumps, but it was tasty. The boiled dumplings were good as was the cucumber salad, although it leaned salty, almost as if they salted the cucumbers but didn't rinse them well enough. Even still the dressing was yummy. We were quite disappointed overall with our visit tio Bao Dumplings in Verona. The food was OK but not inspiring. The service was just awful! We ordered the dumpling sampler and while the filling tasted fine, the dough was fairly thick and our order was tepid, not hot. It was also not that visually appealing. It was just dumplings dumped on a plate. We also ordered the pork soup dumplings which were very hot and not bad (again the dough was thicker than other restaurants) but were not served with the traditional serving ware which made them difficult to eat. The service was terrible! Our server never stopped by to fill our glasses or see how our food was. We had to flag him down for everything including the check. When he gave us the check it was for a different table and was 3 times the amount of our check. We think the problem was there was either a food reviewer or influncer was there to rate the restaurant (they were taking pics of all the food and commenting online about each dish) and all of the servers and the owner we fawning over them and ignoring the other tables.
