I went to Mr.Wasabi, just to have a light dinner with my son. and the young waitress with the short cut had me very rude service because I didn't order much food at the moment?? What on earth restaurant? I thought this place is good enough to have a small family dinner near Bayside area without having some trouble going to the city. I don't feel like going to there anymore unless that girl is not working.. I am not sure if her boss trained her to show some attitude to customers if they are not ordering much food which cost them at least $100 per pair. So my friends and I were in Bayside and wanted sushi. One of them is a regular here and recommended this place. Two of us got there first and the place was empty. We got a table for 4. When the other two showed up, one brought the disabled boy she nannies so they just sat next to us since there was a 5th. The boy saw lemons, which he loves, in the cooler on display so my friend asked for some. I don't know what the problem was but asking for a lemon was like asking for a diamond. My friend and I ordered 2 special rolls each, and the other girls just had eaten, so just got a soup. I don't think they liked the fact that they weren't eating. Again, the place now has one other guest. My rolls were $30, I asked for a side of sauce and they said they had to charge me. Ok. The owners wife, I assume, and two waitresses just stood in front of us and stared. Act busy at least!! The most uncomfortable thing ever. My friend was getting comfy and put her foot on the chair and the lady owner came over and told her to put it down! Then my friend was like maybe I'll get a drink, let me see what's in the cooler on DISPLAY! They yelled at her to go back to the table and ask her waitress for a menu and a drink. She was like, I'm just looking, but nevermind. I feel like they had nothing better to do than analyze our every move and make us feel so uncomfortable. I've been to Mr. Wasabi a couple times now and return here when I stay over in Bayside. The food here is fantastic, top-quality and the physical restaurant is impeccably clean. It is a small space but not cramped in any way, shape, or form. I highly recommend coming around during the hours of their lunch special to get the most bang for your buck. read more

I ate at Mr. Wasabi for lunch on a weekday evening. The restaurant was packed and since I was dining alone, I got a table by the window, which was perfect. The service was good. My glass of water was never empty. Most of all, I thoroughly enjoyed my Shrimp Tempura udon. I did not get to try their sushi but I have heard great things. This was our first time dinner in Mr. Wasabi. It was around 7 PM , the store was empty at the time we entered, I thought that was because long weekend, everyone are out of town. We ordered wine, Shrimp Tempura Udon , Dragon Roll and Rainbow Roll, the Shrimp Tempura Udon and Dragon Roll were okay, but the Rainbow Roll has no taste, the salmon and tuna on top were not fresh, the rice was hard too; Worst thing is that they watch you while you eat. Haven't been here in quite a while, so my husband and I decided to stop in for dinner. Headed to the restroom to wash my hands before we were going to eat, and one of the chefs walked out right after flushing the toilet without washing his hands! I've been coming here since I was in High School and I've always left happy. From the way it looks outside and the name, seems pretty corny but the food is always fresh and on point. I'd recommend The Wasabi Summer Roll and Crab Meat Croquette for appetizers. All their rolls, teriyakis and udon is really good. The last thing I want is to write a bad review but I feel I must. Maybe I can spare someone else what I went through/ am going through. The family & I went to Mr. Wasabi's at the recommendation of my accountants secretary and because of the good reviews I read here. Went with the wife and kids. We decided we would all share the Sushi/Sashimi platter for two as well as an order of Chicken and Beef Teriyaki. At the time everything was great. Place seemed clean, got an A on their last inspection, the sushi tasted fresh and cold and the beef and chicken seemed fresh, was served very hot and seemingly well cooked. I was the only one to eat the beef teriyaki. Apparently ordering that was a bad choice. Within a few hours of eating the meal I broke out in a sweat, was doubled over in the worst stomach pain I think I've ever had, was intensely nauseous, and ultimately a while later vomited. There was little doubt based on the symptoms and how/when they developed that this was food poisoning. It was so bad I almost went to the hospital. It's now been over 24 hours and I STILL have stomach discomfort. The rest of the family lucked out because they didn't eat what I did. To add insult to injury, the meal cost us over $100 and we left a big tip. Needless to say we will never be going back. Going to tend to my still ongoing abdominal pain. read more

Mr. Wasabi is your standard no frills sushi joint, but the quality is certainly there. They have a large selection of "specialty rolls" - most which seem to be different variations of spicy tuna, spicy salmon and crab rolls, but I guess it works for Bayside. Since all of the rolls were basically the same I cannot tell you what exactly we consumed, but we ordered two specialty spicy rolls, a spicy salmon roll and a few pieces of sashimi and it was the perfect amount for my boyfriend and I. I enjoyed all of the rolls, but wasn't a fan of how they cut the octopus sashimi, which made it very difficult for consumption unless I wanted to stick an enormous piece of chewy octopus in my mouth. For starters we had edamame and the crab croquettes which were sooooooooo good, so I certainly recommend trying those out. The beverage list is OK, but I was not very pleased with the fact that they only have Chardonnay and no other white wines (at least serve Pinot Grigio!). Sweet Holy Soy Sauce! I think I have found the best sushi joint in Bayside on Bell Boulevard. Tried the other two that are on the same boulevard in the proximity, but the sashimi and sushi dinners I've had here were the only memorable experiences, so I think that says a lot. The sashimi is super fresh and nummy nummy nummy ! And the maki rolls are just the way you would imagine the best maki rolls should taste like. A definite must-try if you are in the neighborhood. This place is small and busy at nights! Their food is nice and clean, although the portions are fairly small. They recently started to finally have a lunch special menu, which is okay, not that cheap, but still better than nothing. If anybody is wondering, this place is owned by Koreans. :) Wish they gave some sort of service or extra side dishes once in a while. read more

This is my absolute favorite sushi spot in Queens. I live down the block, so its my go-to for takeout. The staff is always super friendly and my orders are ready right away. Favorite rolls are the bayside roll and the volcano roll. Although those rolls are pricier, totally worth it. read more

My favorite sushi place. Must get crab croquettes and crab lovers roll! They are closed on Mondays which I sometimes forget and then I get really sad if I'm craving it but they are always on point. I've been coming here for a few years now, and their rolls are AH-MAZING! Their Crab Lovers roll is my favorite. AND their bento lunch boxes are great too! Now, the reason I only I gave them three stars instead of four or five is because of their occasional crappy service. First of all, they literally WATCH you eat sometimes. It's slightly off putting. Second, there were a few instances in which one of the waitresses (the younger one) would throw a mini hissy fit when you ask for things like "no eel" or "extra crab" or something like that. There was even one time my glass of water got knocked down and she acted like I was the Devil's spawn or something. Thirdly, they have a minimum order amount!! You can't order anything that amounts under $10 if you're staying. But you CAN order something for takeout if its under $10. That baffles me. I just wanted to sit down and enjoy a bit of solitude with a sushi roll and I was told I couldn't do just that! I was very disappointed. Nonetheless, I still come back here with friends because their food is just that good. I'd recommend it for a group to sit and have a nice time, and for takeout. My boyfriend and I went in to buy some Miso soup, the lady basically kicked us out, the reason as to why is unknown to me, and told us to never come back again. Based on these yelp recommends, I ordered take out from this place a few nights ago. The rolls tasted bad, the spicy mayo was awful, and the vegetable dumplings were dripping with oil. My husband and I were extremely disappointed during the meal, and later both got sick. I suffered with abdominal pain for the following 18 hours. I have been here several times for sushi on the go because the service is prompt and it is in a central location. But that is all. The service is sub-par, borderline rude. The last time I went there (party of 4), the restaurant was empty and we were given no service. I had to get up myself once to ask for something. There were slamming of plates on the table, and the waitress asking "are you done yet" To top it all off, after giving the minimum tip (double the tax), the waitress chased after us to our car and asked us "is there something wrong in your head" - YES those exact words. And goes on to say for a party of four this is not a tip, I will take cash. Obviously I had to put her in her place, and tell her we are not returning, ever, again. I rather go across the street to the other sushi place, or go out of my way just to avoid this type of treatment. PS. this is a place for social sushi eaters, because the regular rolls are tiny and tasteless. And overall for the food and service, it is a bit overpriced. read more
