Finally revisited Mizumi on Northern Blvd after many years, hoping to satisfy our sushi cravings. Instead, about an hour later, I was satisfying my bathroom's occupancy requirements... Let me backtrack. My wife and I arrived exactly at 12:06 PM on a weekday. The staff greeted us warmly, the place was clean and organized just like I remembered, and yes, they have high chairs for the little ones. Unfortunately, the food was a different story. Usually with AYCE, there's at least one or two dishes that make you think, "Yep, I'm going back for this." Here, nothing really stood out as delicious. They have some interesting creations, including sushi made with pesto rice, and many rolls have a Western-fusion twist. Creative? Definitely. Delicious? Not quite there for me. The hot food was okay, although some of the fried items were aggressively salty. I thought, "Let me cleanse my palate with some warm miso soup." NOPE. That was salty too. The bulgogi and kalbi were also noticeably on the sweeter side. The Korean-style wings had soggy skin. Then came the raw oyster. It did not taste fresh at all. I took half a bite, swallowed some, and immediately knew something was wrong. I had to spit out the rest. The unfreshness hit me faster than a New Yorker rushing for the subway. I spent the next hour praying I wouldn't get KO'd in the bathroom. Unfortunately, prayer was not answered. And this was my first meal of the day, so I'm pretty confident it wasn't anything else I ate beforehand. We tried to end lunch on a sweet note with the strawberry ice cream. Sadly, it tasted very artificial. At this point, I was just looking for something, ANYTHING, to redeem the meal. And the winner of the day was... The GREEN TEA in a tea bag. Seriously. That was the thing I genuinely enjoyed the most. I really wanted to love this revisit, but between the underwhelming food and the oyster experience that sent me on an unexpected bathroom adventure, I'm giving Mizumi 2 stars. There is a time limit, so plan accordingly. They also have a credit surcharge, so bring cash if you can. They do have a pretty decent sized parking lot, but getting in was a little confusing. This place is straight-up trash now, which is incredibly disappointing because it used to be an amazing buffet before COVID and I visited quite often. After COVID they switched to hot pot, and now they're back to sushi/seafood, but the restaurant is a shell of what it used to be. The selection is significantly smaller, many of the better seafood and raw items are gone, and a lot of the better hot-food options have either disappeared or been replaced with cheaper alternatives. But the bigger problem was the quality and lack of food. A lot of the food looked like it had been sitting out forever. The galbi, BBQ items, and several of the meats were completely dried out. The galbi was literally like beef jerky and barely edible. The Oysters Rockefeller tray had three old, shriveled oysters on it when we saw it, and it wasn't replenished with fresh ones once during our entire visit. They did, however, make sure the french fries, frozen shumai, and other cheap finger foods stayed completely full--which is obviously what everyone goes to a "sushi and seafood buffet" for. The soups were so salty they tasted like thickened salt water. The seafood section was just as bad. They would put out a batch of salmon sashimi, let everyone take it, and then leave the section empty for a while before eventually bringing out another batch. We counted roughly four salmon replenishments during our entire visit. We managed to get one plate of semi-dried raw clams, and they never put out another batch. Then came the part that bothered me the most. By around 8 PM, they essentially stopped bringing out new food and started cleaning and breaking down stations. They close at 9 PM. I can understand a buffet not having the greatest selection. I can even understand some dishes not being particularly good. But if you're charging people for a buffet, the bare minimum is to actually provide a sufficient amount of food while you're open. We were seated at approximately 6:55 PM. They brought us the check earlier than expected, and when we looked at it, they had written our start time as 6:45 PM--10 minutes before we were actually seated. We could have complained, but by that point it didn't matter because they had basically stopped putting food out anyway. The service wasn't much better. Aside from the hostess, the staff seemed completely uninterested in providing any kind of hospitality, which fit the overall experience. I've eaten at plenty of mediocre and outright bad restaurants and usually just laugh it off and move on. I've never been annoyed enough by a dining experience to actually sit down and write a review. This was the first. What makes it worse is remembering how good this place used to be. This wasn't just mediocre food. It felt like the entire operation was focused on putting out as little expensive food as possible, filling the buffet with cheaper items, and shutting things down as early as possible while still charging customers full price. If you're looking for this type of buffet, spend a little more and go to The Buffet in College Point instead. Or drive a little farther and try Umi on Hillside Ave or DJ's International Buffet in Garden City. I've had substantially better experiences at all three and would choose any of them over this place. If management is wondering why the restaurant is so empty, I don't think the economy is the problem. It's the restaurant. read more

This was my first time at Mizumi in Little Neck, NY and I had a great experience. We came for lunch on a weekday and there was no wait. They have a variety of Japanese food including sushi, seafood, but also salads, fruits, and soft serve. I loved that they had sake sashimi for lunch. It was good. I also really liked their Al Bap, which had a combination of different fish roe, veggies, and a small piece of cooked salmon. I enjoyed the kale salad, baked mussels, miso soup, chilled tofu, clams, shrimp, chocolate chip cookies, and soft serve. I know it sounds like a lot, but there was so much more. They had a large selection of sushi rolls and nigiri as well. I ate so much, they had to roll me out of the restaurant, lol, j/k. Mizumi was very satisfying for lunch. I took my friend here to celebrate her birthday on Sunday night @5pm. The food was pretty good, there were lots of hot food plus sushi and sashimi. The beef short ribs, pan seared scallops, fried soft shell crabs and fried blue crabs were delicious. We had some snow crab legs, however due to the fact that it was Father's Day, the line to get food was very long! We were enjoying our food until the waiter and waitress kept asking us to leave 20 minutes before our time was up. I must have been reminded about tipping multiple times by different waitresses, even had one chase me up the front desk as I was going to pay that tip isn't included in the bill. Last time I was there a couple years ago when they still had the hotpot, it was ok. We came back here as we always stopped by when passing through Queens 10+ years ago when we lived in the area. It was still really delicious and has a great variety of foods and sushi on the buffet. Service was friendly and they didn't even mind that we were dragging carryon luggage with us on our way to the airport. We tried Mizumi for the first time today. In my opinion, the reason to go here is for the sushi. They have an impressive array and it was very good. They also had a number of original rolls I had not tried before. Also, the pork belly, chicken and beef were very good. After that, I would also say that the service was good. They refilled our drinks often and didn't rush us, the two basic needs for a buffet service. They were also friendlier than a lot of buffets I've been to, especially with our young children. Now for the cons, I was not really impressed with a number of their other selection. The raw bar elements (clams, sashimi, squid, mussels) did not really taste that fresh to me. They have what I would consider a very limited dessert menu with just a few sweet options. Only having blue crab was also kind of a bummer. I believe they have other shellfish at night but I was expecting more. They think the flavor profiles was more original than other buffets we've been to but overall I would say the food was just ok. We went during Lunar New Year on a Saturday, and they had a special $43 all day promotion going on from 11 am to 9 pm. The sushi and sashimi collection was massive, and they had a lot of great options: I liked the angel roll the best. Immediately, when you sit down, the waiter comes over and takes care of your drinks. The variety of food was very good, but they definitely are missing some items and not everything. Is that great. I personally think that they should've had a larger selection because the buffet is a little bit small. During the pandemic, they introduced hot pot. While many people that I personally knew said the addition of hot pot made things worse since they got rid of many of the hot dishes, I did not think it was that bad. I highly recommend coming at least an hour before this happens. I completely forgot about the shift change and we got here around 1:50. As for the food, the sushi was not bad. I was not expecting omakase-level sushi, just sushi buffet level with sashimi, and it sufficed. The hot dishes - seafood soup, miso soup, fried calamari, katsu pork, and the various seafood options (clams, oysters, mussels, crabs) were absolutely delicious. We came on a Saturday when they opened for lunch and it wasn't crowded. There were tons of food to eat and the spread was neat and clean. There weren't a line. We sat comfortably and the seating weren't tight. The cooked food was good, but surprisingly, my favorite was the mango salad with arugula. We've been here a few times, most recently this past Saturday for lunch. The variety was good and quality was great imo. There was something for everyone and it was all very tasty. I would take off a half star - we were looking forward to the hotpot but they've discontinued it - but can't rate halfsies and I think four would be unfair. The servers circulated frequently - clearing plates, refilling the hot water for my tea, and checked was everything alright. The buffet and dining areas are spacious so it didn't feel crowded. Dining is separated into several different areas which also leads to not feeling crowded. There is ample parking.
