We tried something different after church this past Sunday. Our daughter was to go to MR West's and I had never been. I really enjoyed this. I had a Mongolian Beef Rice Bowl. Much to my surprise the kimchi was really good. I had the white rice with it. This was very different and the portions were great. My wife had the Teriyaki Chicken Rice Bowl. It had a pineapple kimchi which was good too. My daughter had a very tasty Fried Sesame Chivken Bowl. We had pan seared pork dumplings as well. We'll be back here. As Mom and I walked in we were expecting a table service but immediately noticed it was a place your order and we call when it's ready establishment. OK we're game. Not disappointed. As a fan of EastWest, I tried Mr. West for lunch. Got the Wednesday linch bundle of Mongolian beef with spring roll , rice, and 2 pan fried dumplings. I also got a side of the mushroom bao bun. I let my lunch companion try mine and they were t back to get an order of their own. Everything was very tasty! My only complaint was that the mongolian beef was rather dry. I've been wanting to try this place, so the kids and I drove out to downtown Trussville last night. The meal was amazing! Parking is nuts. Lots of small shops and restaurants in a very small area, but after a few minutes we were inside. The menu was reasonably priced. We started with the wings. Smoked, then fried, and smothered in a milder hot sauce and yum yum sauce, the wings were incredible! Some of the best wings in Birmingham. My daughter and I got the bulgogi steak and pork belly Bao Buns. We also ordered the wonton chips for an extra $2 each. The buns were delicious. The soft, pillowy steamed buns were Heaven! So delicious. The steak sauce was a little strong for me- I preferred the pork belly. But both were delicious. We will definitely be back! Great super nice staff, found by Yelp. Got the Thai chicken steak, it was good but won't be my go to. Also got chicken Thai nachos and pan seared dumplings. Those was great. We've come here several times since they've opened and gotten food to go and sat down inside. This is an offshoot of EastWest, a favorite from downtown Birmingham. We've had their bao buns - I love the pork belly, while my wife loves the soft shelled crab. The wings and nachos are both good, but out of those two, I'd definitely recommend the nachos as the must try. The burger is definitely a surprise, and a good one at that. I got it on our most recent stop here, wanting to try something new, and it was very good. I'd definitely get it again. They also have specials they advertise on their instagram, so we try to follow them on there to see what they cook up / devise next. Definitely worth following and giving them a try! read more

I don't make it out to Trussville that often but will come out more after my lunch at Mr. West's Asian Kitchen. It's a quiet and comfortable lunch spot with lovely outdoor seating. The service is order at the counter, and the person assisting me was helpful and explained some of the finer points of the menu. I did not get a bao, as most people have recommended. I will definitely do that next time. This time I got the side salad, pork dumplings, and west wings. The wings are the star of the show. Smoked first then fried, they give you the smokiness of a smoked wing with the crunch of a deep fried wing. They were tender and the saucing was noticeable but not overpowering in flavor or heat. The most noticeable flavor was smoke, which was pleasant (to my tastes). The dumplings were better than standard dumplings in how they were dressed, which was a lovely ginger-based sauce, I think. The salad was totally decent with the standard ginger dressing. Overall, very impressive in terms of taste and complimentary flavors among these items, enough to make me excited about my next visit. My one caveat: this was enough food for lunch, but it required two small plates and a salad (for me). With the price point (plus tip and tax) this was close to $30. It really is good food you're paying for, but if you wanted to feed 2-3 people, this could get expensive fast. It's not a huge caveat, as I think it's worth it, but an important note for the budget-conscious restaurant-goer. Will be back. 100%. read more

I've been here twice now. The first time was opening week for dine-in and today for take-out. On the 1st visit, I went with the Spicy Chicken Bao Bun. It was incredible and absolutely will get again in the future after I try some of the other options. despite the "spicy" descriptor, it was not overly so and would be good for milder palettes (IMO). Word of caution don't expect the bao buns to fill you up but you should be good if you share an appetizer or add a side dish. My daughter chose the Vegetable Rice bowl on both visits. She really liked the tofu and would order it as a side if it was available. On the 2nd visit she added a side of the grilled vegetables (zucchini, squash, carrots, broccoli, onion) to be able to share the bowl with my wife. My son selected the Hula Burger and was pleased with it as well. He originally was thinking of trying the nachos but was hesitating that it might be enough. After seeing another diner with them, he will definitely get it next time. On the 2nd visit for take-out I decided to to try the Sunday Special (daily specials are posted on instagram and available until sold out) Smoked Chicken West Wing style with French Fries & Slaw. The chicken was well flavored, nice and crispy on the outside. Fries were crispy as well. The slaw had a bit of a bite from the onion but was otherwise nice and creamy. Fast , friendly service. I came here on a Wednesday after work. Decent crowd ... not too busy but steady! You order/pay at the counter . This is different from Eastwest downtown Birmingham. Same owners. I ordered an old fashioned to drink and short rib bao bun (2) and spring rolls. I kept it pretty light. Food came out in a blast! I loved the spring rolls!!! Crispy exterior, warm center and very flavorful. Served with a sweet chili sauce. The bao buns were a little on the lukewarm side. The short rib was well prepared and had a really nice texture. Unfortunately, way toooo much sauce. But I'm not a sauce queen! I would order them again but would say light sauce or on the side..... If you are wondering, the old fashioned for $5 was cool. The best restaurant in Trussville without a doubt. Clean, stylish interior, wonderful staff, and delicious menu! The manager goes above and beyond to make sure customers are perfectly taken care of. Every house made sauce is so flavorful, and the dishes have been creatively made to have a variety of flavors that complement each other. Best spring rolls(not the ones that are all wrapper and no filling-- these are full of veggies and fried perfectly light and crisp). Oh and you could drink the sweet chili sauce, it's so good. The vibe of this place was super cute. I love the decor and setup. I'm a huge East West fan so I could not wait to try this place. I had the sample platter with the nachos, spring rolls and the lovely, juicy flavorful wings. I enjoyed how the menu was similar but still had some different items. Yum! Wonderful fusion flavors and quick service at this fast casual place. I went with my mom and husband. And we got a ton of menu items to try. I really liked the flavors and the food came out so quick- fresh and hot! Favorite bite was the dumplings! Enjoyed everything we ordered actually: nachos, noodles, burger, wingers, bao buns. Bao bun was good not great, and it was tiny portion and higher price. It's their signature, but more of an appetizer. If you get bao bun, you'll need something else too! You order at the counter and they bring it to you, which isn't my favorite, but it worked here. The portions are small- so order several things (though this does get pricy). My new goal is to rate places for what they are. To me, because ordering at the counter was crowded and not my favorite, this is four star dining experience. We went for lunch on Friday, just a week out from opening. The food was absolutely amazing. I wish I could have gotten one of everything today but instead I had to settle for trying the pork belly bao buns, the pork kalua bao buns, and the west wings. Everything was delicious! The prices were fine for the quality of food that you receive and it didn't take long to be cooked. One of the owners, Oliver, was there and we got to speak with him for a few minutes. We originally tried to order take out last weekend but they were so swamped that they couldn't take any more orders and risk not messing it up or giving out food that wouldn't taste up to their standards. We absolutely respect that decision and appreciated the honesty instead of us ordering and getting food that would be subpar to what they would normally serve.
