I may be biased, I used to work for/with Mrs. Goodman back in '95 at the French Market location. Each day, if there were unsold items, I was free to take them with me, and as you can imagine, this quickly turned into a problem. :) The scones and breads were always amazing, but I have to give it to her for the pies. I was not a fan of creme pies before I had hers. They are exquisite. There are so many to choose from, but I seem to keep going back to the French Silk. It has a crust made of oreo cookie crumbles, a filling of chocolate so smooth and decadent that you will want to eat more even though it's so rich you can feel satisfied quickly. The whipped cream is also quite delicious. I have not had the cakes, though I have heard nothing but rave reviews, even after they have been frozen for some time. Mrs Goodmans is a bakery in Worthington that has been around since the 80's and the newest owner is only the third to own this bakery. But no fear that there is a new owner because they kept all recipes the same so it still has the same perfect taste you envision. In a newly remodeled space they offer a wide variety of scones, brownies, cakes, cupcakes, cookies, pies and every sweet your heart desires. In addition to the regular menu, Saturday's are guinea pig days where they test out new items and new ingredients. My favorite item on the menu is anything that has buttercream. Their buttercream is to-die-for! It's also what they are best known for and the homemade taste really shines through. Their cakes have no shortage of buttercream on them (the slice of cake I had, had over a inch of buttercream - pure heaven). They have over 13 varieties of cookies and even though I was tempted by a chocolate chip, I decided on a shortbread cookie with butter cream on top and I've already decided I'm going back for more of those ASAP! Also excited to try the brown sugar walnut and the chocolate peanut butter chip. Their pie crusts are made from scratch (even though when you look at them you'd think otherwise, they look THAT perfect)! They have 12 varieties of scones (each day 6 are available) and I want to head back on a Saturday morning to try the sticky buns and cinnamon rolls because they looked incredible. This is the go to place for cakes in my family. They can be a little on the pricey side, but the taste is great, and better still, they will decorate it with pretty much anything you want on top. In February we got a cake with a run over cat on it (it's a long story) and in May we got a cake with a Tardis on top. The person taking the order clearly had never watched Doctor Who and didn't know a Tardis from the Starship Enterprise, but they googled it, and sure enough, what I got for my birthday was a piece of art. But unlike many places around who put the form over function, Mrs. Goodman's cakes taste every bit as good as they look. The chocolate with chocolate icing is decadent, the white with white icing is moist and still tastes good after a day, and the strawberry with strawberry icing tastes fresh with real strawberries ground up in the cake and the frosting. I tried Mrs. Goodman's snickerdoodle cookie at a Yelp event. It was one of the best cookies that I've ever had. So I decided to go that Friday before my meeting to grab some treats. They have a small quaint bakery. It's clean and the staff is extremely helpful. I got a variety of baked goods. They offer custom cakes and they have premade cakes. They also do cupcakes. They ask that you order them ahead of time. I would have given five stars. But what held me back was that their doors weren't open on time. Which was I'm sure then just not realizing the time because they were there. But it was really that they don't offer sugar free pastries. They do have a few sugar free pies but not by the slice. It would be nice if you could at least order sugar free pastries a few days ahead. I had to stop somewhere else to get the people that couldn't eat sugar something. What a delightful experience we had at this bakery yesterday! On our way back from Sunbury, we decided we wanted to get a sweet treat, but couldn't seem to find anything appealing. We did eventually plan to drive to a place further down High Street, but I saw Mrs. Goodman's out of the corner of my eye, and took a sharp turn into the parking lot. It was truly serendipitous, as we entered and ordered a cinnamon roll and a sticky pecan roll, and one of the proprietors -- Amy -- simply said "we'll give you an extra one of each" for no reason at all. When we got home, both rolls were indeed delicious, and it was truly a great little bonus to have another one to snack on the next day. Was invited to a high tea at a friend's and wanted to bring my A game. Literally struck gold with Mrs. Goodman's scones. You can buy them out of the case or buy frozen and bake fresh which is what I did at this event- filled the house with the smell of MAGIC! I picked up clotted cream and a trio of English marmalade, jam, and curd from Whole Foods to go with. It was full English glory! This is a belated review so while I want to give two stars I'm giving three due to reading there is new leadership. We ordered a cake for our daughters birthday and was quoted a price over the phone. I went in and described the cake I wanted and was given a whole new quote, which is fine. However, while the cake ended up being cute it wasn't worth what we paid and the fact that when we got home and a name was spelt wrong was terrible. I was livid. We called and they stayed open for us to drive back (~20 minutes) and gave our daughter and us some cupcakes but I would have preferred a discount. When we tasted the cake the next day for the party it was not worth what we paid or the stress. I doubt we'll be back. read more

I can get past bad customer service but can't pay full price for day old or stale cake. I've been going to Mrs. Goodman's for over 10 years and they have lost my business. The last 3 times I've bought cupcakes they have been stale. They freeze the cake and pull it out and frost it. When it's fresh, it's really good but it is hit and miss. I've ordered wedding cakes, birthdays, holidays, you name it but enough is enough. The staff is always really snotty, clueless, and act like they are serving gold. It's just cake...and there is tons of competition! Selection is limited if you want more than a few cupcakes. We typically get a two layer devil/angel food cake, but whatever you get, you won't be disappointed-- particularly with the wonderful icing they have on the cake. If you're not in need of a whole cake, they typically have cupcakes that are iced and ready to go. I wish Mrs. Goodman was my next door neighbor so that she would give me cookies for free and I could eat cookies all day long just like my eight year old self always wanted to. This is my absolute favorite place to get cookies. If I could eat Mrs. Goodman's M&M cookies forever and ever amen, I would do it. They're a buck a throw, which I don't consider bad at all. I'm not really that impressed with the cupcakes, especially with the local competitors I prefer. They're a little dry and small for me (the cupcakes, not the local competitors), but I might have caught them on an off day or two. But I will never ever cheat on Mrs. Goodman's cookies. read more

We needed somebody to make cake pops for our wedding. Yelp to the rescue! I stopped in here and talked to Rachel, who offered to make me some samples, along with a price quote. I also had gotten samples from another bakery, but the comparison wasn't even close. Mrs. Goodman's cake pops were rounder, bigger, and simply much more beautiful. So we went with her's. 150 cake pops, 75 vanilla with white frosting, 75 chocolate with brown frosting. The cake pops were so large, in fact, that we almost had trouble wrapping them in sleeves. But that's a good problem to have! We also ordered 4 dozen chocolate cookies to place in welcome bags. Communication with her husband Lee was quick and seamless, and all in all, it was a great experience. I'll surely recommend them for any occasion. And, I should mention, everybody absolutely loved the cake pops. read more

My family has been ordering cakes here for every birthday for the past 5-6 years. But not anymore! Their customer service is the worst and unfortunately unavoidable. They accused my 72 year old father of wanting to steal a cake he had pre-paid for. He stopped by to order it a few days before my moms bday & they asked that he pre-pay and he had no problem for that. Unfortunately they didn't give a receipt and he paid in cash. And when he went to pick it up they said you have to pay for it first he said I already did pay for it, and they said they didn't keep track of it and basically accused him of wanting to steal it a $25 cake!!!!! They made a copy of his drivers license too! This is not how you treat loyal customers! They just lost my whole family's business - and we have a Huge family! Good riddance. Fantastic bakery. I've been to virtually every bakery in Columbus and Mrs. Goodman's is my favorite. I liked them so much that they made my wedding cake. In response to the other reviewer: their prices are actually not bad at all and quite reasonable. I made a comment a few months back that I was able to afford almost three times as many baked goods here versus a downtown vegan bakery. Besides, I'm sure most reviewers are concerned first and foremost with the baked goods and their quality and secondarily about price. I'll keep this short and sweet: After visisting virtually every bakery in the Columbus area, Mrs. Goodman's is still my favorite based on selection of products (cookies, cakes, scones, pies, etc.), the quality of their baked goods (large, thick cookies), and most importantly: their buttercream frosting! Their buttercream frosting is very unique and is the most delicious that I've tried in my bakery-quest. And this is coming from a guy who also bakes cakes on the side too, so I know a little bit about buttercream icing. Matter of fact, I liked it so much that I bought several pounds of the icing from Mrs. Goodman's a few months ago. It didn't go to waste :-) The only downside, and this is true of most bakeries, is that if you go late in the day, you're going to be faced with a minimal inventory. Trust me, I've learned my lesson. Try to go as early in the day as possible so you'll have the full menu to choose from. If you can't, just call ahead and one of the employees will be happy to put something back for you. Definitely go check out Mrs. Goodman's. I'm sure you'll find that it's one of the best bakeries in the Columbus area. read more
