    Authentic atmosphere

As a Texas transplant/Louisiana-native, the Cajun offerings in the DFW area have been a recurring and tremendous disappointment. What a joy to literally stumble upon this hidden gem in Lake Dallas while exploring a nearby bike trail with the family. The boudin balls are just like home, the gumbo is ACTUALLY award-winning (and amazing), I scarfed down as much fried okra as possible, and the catfish is fantastic! The owner was as friendly and open as the atmosphere he's created in this little spot. We can't wait to come back on a Friday or Saturday night to hear the live music! If you're craving Cajun, this is the place!

First, I wasn't going to write a review, but then, I owe it to the fellow Yelpers, honest and fair review of my experience at this establishment. I came here, because my tenant knows the owner and he owns a Cajun restaurant. I said I like Cajun restaurant(I love Razoo's and Papadeaux's), so I'd love to go, so we went in a downpour rain driving to Corinth and it was kind of far. The establishment was cute, nicely decorated with Mardi Gras themes with plenty of parking. I thought it was very pretty. I was very hungry since I haven't eaten all day, so I started out with Cajun crab cakes and crab stuffed jalapeño poppers which were very good with sides of ranch and tartar sauce. For entrees, I ordered shrimp etoufee and crawfish etoufee for my tenant. It was decent and glad it wasn't a ginormous portion or I wouldn't had room for dessert. I ordered bread pudding with fudge/caramel and ice cream and my tenant had biegnets with powder sugar and fudge/caramel on the side. My bread pudding was good. When I got the bill, I was surprised to see that it was $106 though I easily pay that at Papadeaux's, but the fact is this was not Papadeaux's. Besides, I've noticed that service fee of $3.60 if not paying by cash. I guess it's passed on to the customers what it costs the establishment to charge credit/debit payment. I was caught by surprise, but from now on, I will pay more attention to the menu as to what I'm paying for and how much instead of ordering tons of stuff and being oblivious. Over all, it was a good experience, but it's very unlikely that I will ever return here as it's VERY far away from Plano though I used to drive 3 hours to go eat in Southern California, this place isn't one of them that I'm willing to drive that far. I'm just being honest. Oh, the owner said I look like Margaret Cho. Though my mother told me that herself before, I think I'm much funnier than Margaret Cho(I don't find her to be funny except when she talks about her mother! Believe me, I read her book, I know)and also, better looking, aged well with no visible tattoos. There, that's my honest and fair review of my experience!

This is an awesome little joint off Lake Dallas. The decor is fun and inviting, the staff is friendly, and the food is the bomb!!

I walked into Mardi Gras, the atmosphere was fun and lively. The food was awesome. I prefer a little spicy and they didn't disappoint. I started with the crab stuffed poppers they were cooked to perfection and the crab tasted fresh not old. The crawfish etouffee was spicy and had a great blend of onions, rice, and crawfish. Garnished with four pieces of rye bread it was perfect. I asked for a little extra spice and it was perfect. Great job! Thanks

This is a local small business so please support. My review however is honest. The gumbo is actually pretty good and taste like a rough is made daily. I also order the crab cake for an appetizer and it was good just quite a bit of filling and not enough crab. The ambiance is very Mardi Gras which is something I love they're incorporating the Cajun. However the entree I ordered was fried catfish and shrimp and the shrimp were like the ones you get at the store and place in the oven. The fish was fried but not catfish it was the Swai fish. I'm giving three stars simply for the appetizers and stellar service.

I don't usually start with ratings; but I can't possibly give this restaurant 5 stars as so many have. Our food was so inconsistent. Some of what we ordered was good. Some, however, was just plain odd and some was simply inedible. We liked the locale, though, out by the Marina and park in Lake Dallas. We had just kind of stumbled upon Mrs. Lively's when we were looking for a place to have dinner. The restaurant was clean and kitschy, as many Cajun restaurants are. The real highlight was a very entertaining and enjoyable live band. The waitstaff was friendly and attentive and seated us right away. My husband started with a bowl of chicken and sausage gumbo ($9) which had a nice dark roux with good flavor; but absolutely no heat. He sent it back for some cayenne pepper and found it to his liking when it returned. He ordered the Blackened Catfish with two sides - fried okra and the Cajun Potato Salad ($16). I ordered the half Oyster Po Boy Sandwich ($11). The upcharge for substituting for french fries was $2 and I decided on the Cajun Potato Salad, too. I opted for a couple of bites of the Cajun Potato Salad first, when everything came, and knew I didn't like it. It wasn't the horseradish. The potatoes were mealy. Hard to say which step in the potato process made them mealy; but it ruins potato salad. My husband will eat anything and he actually ate his. I don't know how. I moved on. I should have known better when in the middle of asking about the oysters, the waitress told me they were pre-battered. You know, to save time, so they would be ready to cook later. I should have ordered something else. Turns out they are hand battered and flash frozen by the owner. Is this a common practice? The oysters frankly didn't taste up to par, had a fairly solid , not creamy, middle, and the breading fell off like poppers. I guess I drew the short straw all around as my menu woes didn't end there. My Po Boy bread had a stale hard bottom. I did eat that, even so, as I had just complained about the potato salad and asked her if she would please take it off the check. She offered me my choice of another side, to be fair. I just didn't want one. As for my husband, his Blackened Catfish looked like it had lost part of its Blackening; but was pretty good catfish according to him and the okra was okay, too. I'm guessing both were frozen. At this point the owner stopped by our table. Nice guy. We had a potato salad discussion. He said he would look into it. On our way out, he said he had looked into it and agreed with me and was making a fresh batch. We live 50 miles away and love the lakes, so we wander up this way now and again. The weekend band was a terrific bunch of guys and the restaurant has a nice vibe; but I need to know I can count on what is served me and I'm afraid 50/50 just isn't good enough for me to make a special effort to come back.

This was not worth $20! Shrimp etouffe. Go get some shrimp and a box of Tony Chachere's instant meal mix and that would be better.
    Yolie F.

Not worth $20 for something that tastes like box type meal. one step away from Hamburger helper but with shrimp. Well we won't go there again . Frozen fries and shrimp that we reheated ! Pretty sad. So a meal of fried shrimp with fries and a serving of etouffe... $43. We love supporting small businesses but this was an epic fail!

Way off the beaten path but worth the trek. Simple yet yummy Cajun fare. Never had a bad meal here. The owner is part of the charm.
