The seafood and prime rib bowl were actually really good--flavorful and cooked well. Fries are some of the best I've ever had! Unfortunately, the rest of the experience didn't match the food. There were flies everywhere, the bathroom had no paper towels, and to top it off, there was a cockroach on a reserved table as we were leaving. With better cleanliness and attention to detail, this place could be great, but right now it's hard to overlook those issues. read more

Excellent food. Great service. We were a party of five and greeted fast and served quickly. My son ordered something that he didn't really like when he got it. He was content to just deal with it, but the waitress noticed his discontent and offered an alternative that he appreciated greatly. The atmosphere is classy bar like. Lots of screens but oddly quiet at the same time. They appear to have a good team that supports one another which is probably something most don't notice, but it hints towards a strong work ethic that is lacking in other places. read more

We have tried Walters twice since the remodel. The staff is nice and there are many choices on the menu - maybe too many - but wow, so overpriced for what you are getting. The food we have had has been okay but if I'm spending that much, I will opt to go elsewhere. We so wanted to like Walters as we are new to the area and they are close. There is an outdoor patio but nobody was out there on the day we stopped by. There is a scary enclosed/outdoor bar area with poker machines and people were smoking in there - stank!!! Indoor bar is nice and they have huge, chilled beer mugs which is nice on a hot day. We also tried an old fashioned but will stick to making them at home. read more

A tavern, with an interesting menu. Their signature items are bread bowls filled with mashed potatoes and gravy with several meat choices. I chose meatloaf, another at the table ordered prime rib. Called in a to go order after seeing a FB post with their salads advertised. When I called I asked if the chopped salad included the diced chicken, I was told yes- it is in the description on the post and on their menu. I was unpleasantly surprised to then be charged an extra $7 for the chicken that I was told was already included; mind you it was not for extra chicken, just the pictured amount. I was disappointed but could tell the wait staff was new as she was asking someone how to do everything. I wish it could've been corrected on the spot but I'm not one to keep at it after already asking. $23 for a standard size salad with a small portion of chicken is a bit steep. I liked the topping selection. For being advertised as a "huge" salad though, I was disappointed in the size and only one dressing included. Dressing was ok, was told it was house made but not the best. I would give Walter's another try in the future as I have had a wonderful beef stroganoff here- was also pricey but the portion size and quality of that dish was worth it. Hopefully they will straighten out their prices vs social media ads and further train their staff. Update: Tried their chicken and dumpling soup and unfortunately had hard pieces of something in it. I'm assuming maybe it was bone from the chicken? Just not the best feeling to bite into. read more

I would love to see different things brought to the menu, I love Walters and all the family., However, I see a lot of other craft kitchens pulling out some amazing new dishes weekly. I ordered the shrimp basket. My husband ordered a burger. Both were huge! The food was delicious. They had several menu items that sound great. Prices average around $17 per entree. Some items are a little less, some are about double that. The outdoor back patio was nicely decorated with tablecloths, flowers, and fake candles. They do have patio heaters. They had TVs on and a local sharing his life story with anyone who would listen. The bar area patio was enclosed for warmth, but absolutely filled with cigarette smoke. They had slot machines at the bar. It's like a dive bar serving top quality food and attempting to be nicer than a dive bar . The vibe was a bit odd. Our waitress was very welcoming and friendly. Came across Walter's Tavern when traveling through Lake Dallas. Had the French Dip sandwich and fries, it was the best. We didn't know the restaurant had a fire in the past and they are currently rebuilding. We sat on the patio, was Leary at first but the outstanding customer service made us want to stay and eat, they brought 3 heaters to our table and made it very comfortable. They made sure we had everything we needed. We can't wait to come back. Nice to support a local when they are rebuilding. read more

We had been been wanting to try this restaurant for a while based on some neighbors recommendations. Wow- We we're not disappointed! It likes like a small pub from the outside, but the food is top notch! Our waitress was very knowledgeable on the menu and helped us with picking our meals. We started with chips and queso (the hubby couldn't wait, he was starving) and he said it was good (I did not try it). We ordered fried green tomatoes for another appetizer and it was yummy. For our meals we ordered the filet, a blackened ribeye, the lobster and shrimp special, and the giant meatball bowl. Everything was amazing. I had the filet, and I must say it was just as good as some of the best steakhouses we have been to. We can't wait to go back and try some other dishes as well. read more

Walter's Tavern is a gem located in the small town of Lake Dallas a short drive on I 35E north of Dallas. The menu offers the usual bar items with a few surprises including chicken fried brisket and jalapeño gravy. My friend and I opted for the cheeseburger and we're not disappointed. A thick and well seasoned beef patty with all the fixins. We both had the white cheddar cheese and I added bacon. Fries were included. We both had iced tea served in whopping big glasses. Service was efficient and friendly without being overly attentive which I like. The decor is somewhat upscale for a tavern. The lighting is on the dark side befitting a bar. Several tvs graced the walls. The bar is on the back wall. This seems to be a "Cheers" kind of place where locals meet and greet. However my friend and I did not feel out of place. This place may be better for lunch & dinner than brunch especially when I saw the specials on the board. The chicken-fried brisket caught my attention. Unfortunately, I did not come here for lunch but brunch. When I got the Blueberry White Chocolate pancakes, I smelled something was burnt. What I initially thought were blueberry stains were actually areas which were burnt. In keeping with the theme, the sausage patties had burned edges. Although they were not burnt, the hashbrowns were dry but I am always highly critical of hashbrowns. On the plus side, I enjoyed their coffee. Rather than half & half, they had the non-diary Coffee Mate which may have affected the taste. I do not recall the last time I had the non-diary stuff. It has interesting food combinations, interesting flavors, is local, is a tavern with a nice atmosphere. But it's just too expensive for what it is in my opinion. The food was "fine", as in it wasn't bad or anything. But for $70 we got basically pasta in sauce and a couple of appetizers. None of it was bad, it was just... Not "wow flavors" for plain dishes, and plain dishes for "wow prices" should have more wow flavors. read more

This place has been on my list of "restaurants to try" for years. I finally made my way to Lake Dallas for lunch. Whoever runs their social media pages does a great job of photographing their food on Instagram. This is a dark little hole in the wall. The kind of place you know has been making good food for a long time. We came at lunch and there were just a few other diners. The server was slow that day but pleasant when she finally came to take our orders. As far as food: get the fried green tomatoes. They come topped with shrimp and a Cajun butter sauce that pulls it all together nicely. I will come back for this dish. I also got the jumbo shrimp basket. At first sight, I was disappointed. All I saw were fries and a few shrimp. But then I tried one of these jumbo shrimp, and it was perfect. I just wish there were 1 or 2 more in my basket. My lunch date ordered chicken Alfredo. It was a decent portion but served in such a small bowl. Overall this is a great place for lunch and I will make a point of stopping in for dinner one day. read more

Since the fire they have still not opened the dining room. There is a smokers patio which is gross so unless you smoke and like your food to taste like a cigarette. Husband and I went to Walter's Tavern for the first time this past weekend and it was soo good!!!! We both got the fish and chips after stalking the pictures here and on IG. The fish was delicious, the fries were crisp and the hush puppies were so good. I don't even like hush puppies because every place I've had them they've been so dry and tasteless... but these hush puppies were a different story. I ate every one and would order a side of them if I could. The bartenders were super nice and attentive. I didn't even care that it was hot as hell and a slight smell of cigarettes lingering in the breeze, I sat there unbothered with my plate of goodness. We will be back! read more

We walked in and seated quickly at 11am this morning. We were in a bit of a hurry so quickly chose the cheeseburger medium rare with fries and I tried the breakfast brunch bowl with sausage. Cheese sticks to start! Our friends ordered another brunch bowl with bacon and a blackened chicken sandwich. The mimosas were great as was the Bloody Mary. Simple and good pours. As the food came out, we were so excited! The burger was cooked to order, fries crispy. My bowl was overflowing with fluffy scrambled eggs, a bread bowl filled with hash browns, eggs, sausage gravy homemade... My hubby's burger looked great. My friend couldn't finish the big chicken sandwich and took the rest to go. My sausage patties were yummy too! We quickly tabbed out. My only sad was we didn't get a chance to see what homemade cheesecakes were there.. I guess that gives me an excuse to go back soon. Well? Overall, the food and staff are great! So disappointed. Arrived at 5:41 pm. We expected a Saturday night crowd on Valentine's day weekend, but there were two unreserved high-top tables, so we sat at one and placed our order. At 6:55 pm we were informed that they were out of the blackened filet mignon beef stroganoff we had put in an order for over an hour ago. We settled our bill for: a coke, an iced tea, and mozzarella sticks and left. $17 to wait for over and hour and not be served. No offer to comp our drinks or appetizer.
