This was a sort of pilgrimage for me. When I realized I'd be kinda close, I had to come. Sugar cream pie is a family tradition, and though my cousin is the only one who can make it perfectly now that Grandmother is gone (I've tried, can't quite get it to set,) I eat it whenever I can. Wick's is the only one you can find in stores (though it is harder to find nowadays, in Ohio anyway.) It's a good solid pie. Served in some restaurants. And served here, because they have a restaurant here too, right across from the factory. But I was here for pies, not breakfast or lunch, so I went to the attached bakery. They have a dozen or so kinds of fresh pie, and more types frozen, plus seconds for a bit less. I got one fresh and one second (probably yesterday's, with a couple of pieces missing) to use as a cold pack for other items. And of course to eat eventually... The fresh one was just a bit better, but the frozen one was good too. We'll see how long they last. Service was great. Prices are good. Selection is good, though I barely glanced at the other flavors. Plenty of parking. If this was close to me I'd be here far too often. read more

Stopped in for lunch for the first time. The ambiance is typical bakery/diner. Our friendly server took our order right away & brought our drinks quickly. Our food came out in less than 10 minutes & was steaming hot. Loved that my hamburger bun was freshly made in their bakery. My cheeseburger, waffle fries & coleslaw were all delicious. I ordered a slice of strawberry rhubarb pie & a slice of apricot pie but they were out of both so I settled on rhubarb pie & it was good. Hubby liked his haddock & coleslaw but felt there were precious few steak fries on the plate. He ordered a slice of raisin pie but they were out so he chose a slice of apple pie & it was delicious. So disappointed in the way I was treated at Mrs. Wick's Pies & Restaurant today. I called from mom's to see if they had beef & noodles today. Was told yes, so I placed an order for pick-up. When I arrived. I was told no, no beef & noodles. Could you substitute something, I asked? No, we won't. Both the cashier and the woman she looked to were very rude. Mom and I have eaten here many times, but I guess their down-home folksiness is just a facade. Common decency is not on the menu here. So disappointing. read more

The service was quick and the waitress was kind. The food was so much better than I had expected and the prices were cheap. You can't forget the pie though. Mrs Wick's has THE BEST sugar cream pie! I've never tasted another that could measure up! When I'd go back to Winchester to visit my grandparents, we'd often go to Wick's for lunch. My fav meal is that half a chicken fajita pita. It's a small chicken fajita salad with half a pita pocket. I don't know what they do, but the chicken is seasoned perfectly! It comes with salsa and sour cream. The hubby would mix things up and get a Manhattan if it was on special or the Tenderloin, which was his fav. The Swiss mushroom burger and pulled pork we enjoyed were tasty and filling, but the pie was the star of the meal. Every day, one woman makes a variety of fresh pies by hand. So although you'll never know exactly what's available, any pie you choose will be delicious and baked with care. I still dream about the flaky crust and fresh berries in the blackberry pie I picked and my son licked the plate clean after his apple crumb pie. This is a great restaurant! When you arrive, there is a huge parking lot with lots of spots. If you park in the back, walk around to the front and head on inside. Once inside, you can seat yourself. There were a lot of people there at 12:30 pm on a Tuesday but service was great. The food selection is expansive and there is something for everyone. I got the club sandwich, and a salad and enjoyed it. The pie though was amazing! I got the apple crumble pie and will be back for it!!!! I might even try to add ice cream next time! After browsing the merchandise and the frozen pies on the left of the counter, I saw the counter area clear to look over the fresh pies available that day. I saw a sign for an Almond Cherry, but there wasn't a pie there. I figured it didn't hurt to ask, so I did and within a minute, a fresh pie was brought out. When in the area for work I knew a quick pit stop was in order. Mrs.Wicks is known for making Indianas State pie, sugar cream. This restaurant is next to their factory which you can tour. I had already had lunch so was coming in with colleagues after a meeting for coffee and pie. Which is probably good, with COVID their menu is only served between certain hours and has restrictions. Be sure to check the time before you head in expecting lunch/dinner. We got there in late afternoon (445?) And had limited pie options, "one of these, 2-slices of this, we are out of xyz". My suggestion go early if you want variety. All in all it was good. The dining room was good size. It felt pretty clean. Definitely make a stop to the cases for their "imperfect frozen pies"($2/pie), frozen noodles, naked pie crust, and rolls/breads. As a warning there is no allergy friendly options here either. As someone who avoids gluten [im sensitive, not allergic], don't expect anything GF, nut free, soy free, sugar free [they do have a reduced sugar pie], fat free etc..... its a pie place! read more

Now I will preface this review by saying that I only got pie when I went here, so I cannot vouch for the rest of the menu, but they definitely had the best pies in Indiana and one of the best selections I've seen anywhere. I've heard a lot of people brag on these pies, but Winchester is quite a drive from Indianapolis. But I had to drive up to Michigan, so I detoured through Winchester just to come here. And it was so worth it. Now the day I went was a pretty chilly, rainy day, but the place was packed and it was about 1:30pm. I had planned on eating lunch, but as busy as it was, I just decided to get pie. Now I got three slices to go... Coconut Cream (which is my all-time favorite) and two pies I've never had before... Peach Crumb and Apricot. And I can't decide which one I liked best. They were all spectacular. I definitely will be detouring through there again next time I head up to Michigan or if I have to head that way in Indiana. I love Mrs Wick's Pies. The only exception is when I purchase a pie that says Banana Cream and when we get home it is turns out that it is actually Lemon Meringue pie. And they tried to charge us full price when in was a day old pie. Even the name of the pie was misspelled. Banana is spelled Banana not Bananna. I guess I should stick to Pecan Pies, Except that the wife likes the Banana Cream and Coconut Cream pies. I hope that Mrs. Wicks will make this right since we ended up giving the pie to a relative that likes Lemon. read more

Heavenly pie!!! I have been coming here for the last 4 years, and every time I've ordered a pie from here it's always been great. Time to time we try different things, I always find myself coming back to the pork tenderloin. The staff over the years been consistently friendly & attentive. The restaurant has a wonderful small town vibe going on, like a classic diner. When I pick my family up from the airport in Indianapolis they always ask me to make the drive out to visit Mrs.Wicks. As we have made trips across the state we have even altered our route just so we could stop and take a break and have some pie. Ok, the pies are made in a big factory across the street. They are machine made (at least in part, but they still are pretty good and seem to use pretty good ingredients. There is a wide variety, from cream pies to fruit pies to the Indiana favorite sugar cream pie. They are all worth trying...at least the er....5... that I have.... I love to eat here. Today wasn't like that. My party of four was seated and for 15 minutes we were not greeted or water brought to us. The waitress knew we were there because she picked her tip up off the table a few minutes after we sat down. 10 minutes after arriving we tried to get her attention so we could order drinks at least. She replied that she would be with us in just a minute. 5 minutes later a couple sat at the table next to us and within 3 minutes they had their drinks ordered and the waitress was reading some things off the menu to them. The staff are average to friendly. The prices are good and the food is better than average. Burgers, fries, tenderloins, fish, vegetables, club sandwiches and some dinners such as beef Manhattan. I have eaten there maybe 30 times over the years and the experiences have been consistent. Why you have to visit Wick's is for the pies. A wide variety of fruit, pecan, pumpkin and the state pie of Indiana - the sugar cream pie. I have had people who lived in Indiana and now live elsewhere say that one of the things they miss the most is Wick's sugar cream pies. When I worked in the Winchester area I had people ask me to stop at Wick's and see what was available in the second's freezer. The second's freezer is where they have the pies that are not perfect, maybe the crust is broken, from the pie factory across the street. Believe me they taste the same but are very inexpensive. I ordered the special chipped beef over a biscuit and mash with pie for $6.30. I was nervous and excited, never having chipped beef before. It was good. The winner was there famous sugar cream pie. I may be a bit biased with Winchester being my hometown, but this place is the bee knees. Sugar cream pie, anyone? If you've never had it, let alone never heard of it, you had best make a drive to Wick's. And for the price? Can't beat it! They also serve a phenomenal breakfast -- I tend to favor the biscuits and gravy, cinnamon rolls and hot chocolate. If going for the hot chocolate, make sure you ask for the big dollop of whipped cream. Simply the best. Though my trips back to Winchester are usually to see my family, I'll sometimes make it a necessity to meet up with an old friend -- at Wick's. You definitely get that small town feel when walking in the door.
