This is second time I have gotten chicks from Mt.Healthy Hatchery and they are the best little chicks. I got the Blue Copper Marans and they are gorgeous. They are very calm and friendly. Every time someone sees them they are amazed at how beautiful they are. I've had a great experience both times that I have gotten chicks from here . My first set I got 9 hens and they are beautiful as well . I get 9 eggs a day from my girls. I'm excited to see what the new ones are gonna do. read more

We are so glad we found this hatchery! The website is super easy to navigate. They have a great assortment of chicks with plenty of information that helped us make a good decision. We drove to the hatchery to pick up. We were greeted outside and our chicks were brought out promptly in their box. Was so impressed that there was a warming pad in their box so they were comfortable on the drive home, along with a thermometer to help us gauge the correct heat for them as they grow. Friendly staff, too. Our chicks are doing well and we look forward to coming back here next year to add to our flock. read more

I want to get some chicks chickens and they let me know that I have the opportunity to have in six even though I live right here in Finneytown area and they also they didn't like you coming buy you some chicks no they sent me somewhere else to get experience with chicks before I purchased to make sure this is something I wanna do. Great experience. Ordered 6, got 7, all hens. Staff brought them to my car. Very clean facility. My girls are grown and laying. We have had so much backyard joy with these ladies. My sister bought some by mail from Mt Healthy on my recommendation. They arrived in great condition by mail a few weeks ago. All adorable healthy chicks. Pretty disappointed with this hatchery, there were some great and not so great things. In summary in case you don't want to read the novel below: I understand things can happen during shipping and sorting with a large hatchery but for 10 chicks, 1 blind, 1 eye infection, 1 dead, 1 rooster (which falls into the 90% guarantee but annoying with the other factors) , and 1 the wrong breed, and being dismissed through that process. Along with the lack of processing a (small) refund that they offered (after multiple failed attempts to get ahold of customer support), likely wouldn't order again. The prices were good and fast shipping (although a tracking number would be nice to make sure I am home to receive them). Birds have good temperament. I would assume if local it could be a much better experience but I would truly advise most that are not near to try to purchase from their local breeders. Likes- affordable, shipping was quick, most of my birds had good temperament, nice woman working social media responses Dislikes- of the pricier chicks I ordered, one was received dead, one was a rooster, and one is blind. They added an extra chick which is one of their cheaper breeds as part of the guarantee, but the loss vs the extra certainly didn't add up. I mentioned this to them and they offered a refund on the dead chick but it was never actually processed/ received. -any follow up customer service is really difficult to access, they only person I got to help me was the nice woman who answered their Facebook messages -for one of the pricier chickens I ordered I was 100% sent the wrong breed. I reached out initially just trying to get an answer as to what breed it may be. Not asking for a refund or even unhappy, just wanted clarification. I feel I was gaslit multiple times saying it was what I ordered and that's what they look like sometimes -which is very different than what they market/advertise. Any breed question had to wait for the owner and that's who I felt just denied what I had to say. It would have been much more honorable and acceptable to just admit that I may have got the wrong breed, it happens, and it isn't that big of a deal, but the way it was handled was not of the caliber of a reputable business. I was told that even though it didn't look like what I ordered I will get the dark egg color... well she is laying eggs now, and it is a very light brown, very clear that she is a completely different breed. Still love her though. - along with the blind chick I also had a chick with another eye problem upon arrival and had to give 2 rounds of eye antibiotics -lastly I have one breed that is supposed to have blue earlobes as described and neither of them do, even into maturity they are not expressing it and that is a defining characteristic of the breed. They are still my favorite and I love their temperament. I know I shouldn't expect much with hatchery quality and since have only purchased local/ through breeders- with the exception of getting a specific breed through Cackle (all went great through them). read more

Tried to place an order for Rhode Island Reds. Instructions state that you can mix and match within the same breed. Tried ordering a combination of males and females that we wanted (totaling 25) but it never showed the bulk price difference. read more

Overall I had a pretty good experience. I ordered 3 hens, got 4. All chicks were indeed hens and are healthy. The only thing that I can complain about is that when the person with our chicks came out to give them to us, he was not handling the box with any care, swinging it about like a baseball bat. Ordered 12, 13 arrived. Within five days, 11 were dead and had all showed signs of brooders pneumonia. I had gotten six from a local supplier and none of them died. I was assured it couldn't be on their end but it almost certainly was. read more

I waited a week to submit this review, after contacting the company through email. It saddens me, but I'd rather consumers have the information and be able to make their educated decisions. Last week, I purchased 3 different breeds of day-old chicks. I set up their environment just as I should (aligned to their "take home sheet") and paid extra for Marek vaccines and a stress packet for their water. Within a few hours of bringing them home, all of my Barred Rocks started to look rough. They had liquid coming out of their nostrils, couldn't hold their heads up, and had trouble breathing. I thought it could have been wry neck at first based on their strange movements. So, I tried to give them extra vitamin E. After further observation, this issue seemed to be more aligned with respiratory illness issues, and I was hopeful and began giving anti-fungal medication. All of 5 Barred Rocks were dead by day 2, while the others thrived (also given extra vitamin E and anti-fungal medication as a preventative). I reached out to the company to let them know by responding to their pick-up confirmation email, and I haven't heard back. I understand chicks are not a guarantee and things happen, but I ended up buying stronger chicks at Rural King. I think if something is wrong with the environment, food, water, etc., the other breeds would have struggled- including the new chicks I picked up. I am not happy for what I paid Mt. Healthy Hatcheries. I hoped for more, given that I put extra effort into picking them up in person and trusted their name. read more

This spring I got 6 ducks, 3 turkeys, and 90 Pheasants from them. As of 4 weeks later I have two ducks and one sick pheasant left. I have raised these type birds and baby chicks most years over the past 40 plus years so it is not that I don t know what I am doing. I tried calling but get no answer. I got these with the idea of my Grandkids helping and watching me but after the first week I would not let them go into the barn as they were heartbroken. read more

i bought 18 chicks since feb. several people i know bought chicks from same feed store that bought from mt all have had most of their chicks die within a day or 2 of purchasing. i called mt and the lady was so rude telling me she coudnt give me credit ( i didnt ask for credit) and telling me it was the stores fault. i just wanted answers to what was going on and was i doing something wrong. she didnt give me time to explain. i went back to the feed store really nice people said they have had several complaints and this was the first time to use this company. if they use them next year i will not buy. i have lost almost $80 in chicks money i dont have to lose read more

My sister raises chickens for their organic eggs and today we went over to the local hatchery and they got 7 more baby chicks actually 8 because at the last minute they gave them another baby chick. They're only a day old and ready to go. If you know anyone that raises chickens or anyone that wants to start this is a great place to go and support a locally owned business. read more

Use to buy all my birds from Mt Healthy, than more and more birds started showing up dead or dying soon after I received them. I complained and they told me to find another hatchery. I buy from McMurray and Cackle now without any problems. read more
