I used to have a great experience here, but lately things have gone downhill. My polish has started chipping much sooner, and they haven't been removing all of my previous color before painting on new. The last time I went was especially bad. My manicurist barely tried any polish remover to take a regular glitter polish off my nails before switching to the dremel. She gouged nearly all of my nail beds. On two of my nails, the gouges were so deep that it was later painful to remove the polish she went on to apply. It's going to take a long time to grow my nails out to have smooth beds again! They also don't have air conditioning and my last few visits have been uncomfortably hot inside the building this summer. I'm so disappointed because I otherwise love the shop, its ambiance, location, sanitation, and polish collection. Please go back to taking the time to do things right. read more

I'm so disappointed. I've been going here for three years and have come to terms tonight that I have to find a new nail place. I've been 98% satisfied/happy with their pedicures. In fact, it's the main reason I returned time and time again. They're consistently good and affordable. But I stopped doing manicures a while back because the shellac-or gel-manicure didn't seem to work for me. No matter the technician, they peeled or chipped after a week. I figured it was because of my nails, not because of their work. Last week, I decided I wanted to have nicer looking nails so I asked for a gel manicure using artificial nails. While the end result looked nice, I felt it wasn't what I wanted because they were too long for me. So the next day, I went to Snow and let her know that I wanted my nails shorter. She said she couldn't cut them without having to repaint. It would cost me $20. Even though I just spend $65 + 20% tip yesterday, I figured it was a learning lesson for me since I hadn't done artificial nails in forever. So Snow shortened my nails and let me know that, next time, simply ask for an overlay since I wanted the nails so short. I appreciated her letting me know for future visits. What I DIDN'T appreciate was that my nail polish chipped within two days. This was exactly why I requested artificial gel nails! So, after spending $85+tip, I wanted this problem fixed. I even waited until more than two nails chipped because I honestly didn't want to go back so soon. But when three nails chipped, I knew I had to return. Because of the holidays, I had to wait a full week to go back. I figured with my long history (being a regular for 3 years) would carry some weight. When I stopped by, Thuy informed me that Snow was off for the next couple of days. I showed her my nails and she said since Snow did them, she would fix them for free. I called on the day she said Snow would be working to make sure she could see me. Thuy remembered me and said that Snow wasn't in. I told her I was worried that too much time would pass and then Snow wouldn't realize that my nails chipped quickly after my last appt. Thuy said she would take my name and number down and make sure Snow would know. Snow called me the next day and told me to come in. I showed her my chipped nails and she nodded, appearing to understand my issue. Well, she gave me a fill and repainted my nails. I thought she went above and beyond to fix my nails because but my nails looked thrashed (by this point, one nail had even torn despite it being artificial!) after just a few days. She didn't cut my cuticles, though, but I figured that was understandable since this visit was complimentary. Imagine my surprise when Snow told me at the end that my total for that day was $32. I couldn't believe it. In 8 days, I was charged $117 on nails over the course of three visits. I was stunned because Thuy had told me this was supposed to be free. But, and my bad, I paid because it was sooo quiet in the salon and i didn't want to make a stink in front of other customers who would've surely heard me. But it just didn't sit well with me. After going to Safeway, I returned to MT to talk to Snow. I explained to her what Thuy had told me and how I didn't expect to pay this visit. Snow said that the only message she got was my name and number, not that I had chipped nails so soon after seeing her. She said that I was supposed to tell her when she saw me. I said I did. She said she didn't get what I was saying and thought I needed a fill. She told me to tell her next time if I needed a couple nails fixed and she would do it for free. I told her if I knew I wouldn't have to pay, I would've just seen anyone, not wait for her, to get my nails fixed. For good or bad, it's not my way to raise hell. It was clear that she thought she was right and wasn't going to even partially reimburse me. $117+tip is a lot to spend in 8 days for nails that are supposed to last a few weeks. Even though I've been a loyal customer, it clearly didn't mean anything. I've brought friends and family as new clients and purchased numerous gift certificates over the years as gifts to friends. But there's no loyalty back to loyal customers. So I'm looking for a new nail salon. Never say never because they do a solid pedicure, but if I were to return, it wouldn't be for a very long time. First time, no biggie. Second time, shame on me. Third time, shame on you. If I stay a loyal customer, that makes me a sucker. So I'm out. read more

Spent a Sunday afternoon here on a gal-date. They did a decent job on our pedicures with long massages, as it was fairly quiet upon arrival. Didn't rush us as we chatted away in side-by-side chairs, then chatted some more at the drying station. Overall, not bad for $20. Minus a couple stars, however, for 1) filling the basin with too hot water (almost scalded my toesies!) and 2) skimping on AC. Mind you, it was the hottest weekend of the year. They finally shut the door and turned on the air when more customers entered. My sweaty back stuck to the leather massage chair...sorry to the next customers! read more

Although the shop is clean and there is a couple nail technicians in there who are good but they have two big issues. First that they suck at booking apps (time management) in spacing their clients out. On the weekends even after making an appt I always have to wait at least 15 minutes. Even as I'm writing this review I have been sitting in the massage chair for 38 minutes after my appt time. I had to get a mani/pedi and the two other places I normally go to were booked so this place was my last resort. I use to come here but was tired of waiting all the time. I think the owner gets too greedy and tells people to come in and at the same time taking walk ins too! Why the hell would I make an appt if you don't adhere to it! I'm a busy mom with two kids I don't have time to waste. I don't know about you but when I find a technician that I like I want her to do both my mani/pedi. I'm picky on how my cuticles are cut and want them to do a thorough job. Also I use to have design on my nails but that got expensive fast and they aren't so good at freehanding. Dots they can do but you tired of that design real quick. Anyway, I digress...so when I request Snow for mani/pedi the owner says sure. When I get there I get a different girl for pedicure. I have observed that there are girls that only do manis and only girls that do pedis. This has happened many times which is also why I had stopped going there. So you will be fine if you make an appt on off peak days and possibly be able to have the same girl do your mani/pedi and with little wait but any other days be prepared with a long book and mediocre pedicures! read more

I'm so happy I found this place! I moved to Castro valley in October and I haven't been able to find a good place to get my nails done. They did an amazing job on my french pedicure. I actually just got a polish change but she hooked me up. I'm a french pedicure snob and I know when people don't know what they're doing. My gel manicure is lasting longer than it usually does so that's a plus! Also, I liked how my nail lady asked me if she could pardon herself to the waxing room (to wax another customer) while she was doing my nails. I don't think I've received that type of respect from another nail salon this yet! Kudos to her. She was nice and her English was good even though she hasn't been here for that long. Worst nail salon one can go to. I was visiting a friend in Five Canyons with my wife when on the way back she thought she would quickly get her nails done. They took her in immediately but then made her wait forever, as they just keep taking in walk-in customers and make the earlier ones wait. Oh my god! When I walk into this Nail Salon, it was cold like I was in Reno! I don't know how the workers here can stand it. This Salon is clean, friendly customer service. It's incredibly busy here. I had an appointment and I was started half an hour late, but this is one of the best acrylic fills I've ever had. You can tell she took her time to make everything perfect, including the gel polish. It is probably one of the best acrylic fills I've ever had. My two friends and I came in for manicures and we were forced to wait 40 minutes to get our nails done while they let two older woman with no appointment come in for pedicures. The lady who did my nails filed my thumb crookedly, so I asked her to file it straight and she twisted my hand in the most awkward position to file it only to make the other side crooked. I asked her to straighten it again and this time she filed it down way more than it needed to be and I was so horrified at how short my nail was that I just said it was fine and to move onto another nail. I recently paid this salon a visit and was very pleased with the results. The place is clean, recently re-modeled and was empty when my friend and I came in. The ladies in the salon were all very cheerful and pleasant (a rather welcome change given the dour faces of most salons) and helped us straight away. I got a Shellac manicure and regular pedicure for a reasonable price. I was most impressed with the care and precision that they spent on my nails, especially as the salon started filling up with walk-ins and appointments. These ladies are wonderful. During my year long engagement I treated myself to regular manicures and closer to the wedding went with acrylic and got a few fills. Now i'm married and broke, so i don't get in as often as I'd like. They have a great selection of colors for both paint and gel and really do a wonderful job. They have great attention to detail - no cuticle goes unclipped and you you never have to worry about the pad of your finger sticking to the underside of the nail. SAVE YOURSELVES AND GO TO A DIFFERENT PLACE! I chose to do acrylics and not only did she file the nails badly and crooked, but she also filed my skin and left some cuts. The paint job is not that good either. I asked for a design and the lines are smudged and uneven. I could've done a better job myself!! The tools looked unsanitary too. I still have glue on my fingers because she did such a sloppy job. Wasted $60 and will probably have to pay even more to fix them AT ANOTHER PLACE because I will never go here again. read more

I went in with my friend to do shellac and pedicure. It wasn't a horrible experience. They massaged my legs (with a little too much oil, which ended up staining my brand new VS sport pants), they were kind of patient while we chose our colors although they seemed to be in a rush to just do our nails. My friend and I were serviced for our shellac by one lady at the same time which could explain why this was the worst shellac of my life. So I totally get that shellac is not meant to last forever but this BARELY lasted a week. I ended up peeling the gel off today and it was quite easy (which is saying something). My cuticles were badly manicured so they hurt pretty bad as well. I'm giving 2 stars because shellac/gel should last at least 3 weeks. Otherwise Why would i want to pay $45 for a manicure? read more

My favorite nail salon, so close to home! We moved to Castro Valley in December and this was the first salon I tried. The salon is very clean and even if they are busy, they greet you with a smile! One thing that stands out about this salon is that they try to get something started for you so you aren't sitting in a chair waiting, whether it's taking off old gel polish or letting your feet soak to start your pedicure. They have a fantastic selection of gel polish as well! The service is always excellent. One time I came in the day following my pedicure to get the polish fixed because I stubbed my toe on my patio door. They fixed it not only for free, but quickly! I will continue coming here as long as we are in Castro Valley, and I highly recommend this salon to anyone who likes a clean, quiet, quick nail salon! read more

Worst service ever! Brought my 3 year old daughter in for her first medi pedi experience and they wanted to seat her 3 chairs from me. They were clearly in a hurry so I stopped and asked them why they would want to seat my 3 year old daughter far from me. Meanwhile, the owner is yelling at her staff in Vietnamese the entire time. They finally agreed to seating us together and I asked if they had any more nail polish colors; one of the girls decided to talk about me in Viet not realizing that I understand. She complained that from all the colors available I couldn't find not even one. I ignored her and acted as though I didn't understand. Tried to keep a positive attitude so my daughter wouldn't feel the tension and would still enjoy her first experience. I love the ladies of MT nails! This is my go-to spot for gel manicures and pedicures (gel or regular). I've never been more loyal to a nail shop... The staff here is friendly and not clique-y, and they are very good at what they do. If you have a preference and tell them, they will correct it and not try to convince you their way is better, which I've experienced often at other shops. They have a lot of gel colors, but IMO, not many nail polishes, though they have a decent selection of OPI... So bring your own if you have a specific vision. I also trust them with my eyebrows- which is a rarity! read more

I went here for a manicure and the place was completely empty with 4 or 5 employees just sitting around. The girl who did my nails maybe spent 15 minutes on my manicure. My nails weren't filed evenly, she barely cut back my cuticles and I could've painted my own nails better than she did. Also I got my manicure here on Wednesday and by Friday they were chipping. This is maybe the worst manicure I've received. The only bright side is it only cost $10. read more
