Last year, our kids were given two gerbils who were around four years old, so when nature took its course (RIP Nibbles and Snugs), they were heartbroken. After holding a memorial service and cleaning out the cage, they looked up at me with hopeful eyes and a "Dad... do you think maybe...?" Yeah yeah, OK. There are lots of big box pet stores in the area, but I'm making the assumption that a smaller local shop likely treats their animals better and hopefully sources more ethically too. In any case, I'd rather shop local when I can and the prices are competitive. I called to see if they had any gerbils available and Aela let us know that they had some males in store. She said to ask for her when we came by. About an hour later, we dropped by and found Aela. She brought the gerbils out in their enclosure and was great not only with the animals, but my very excited children as well. She answered our questions and seemed to really enjoy her job, which makes it so much more fun for everyone involved. She took care of getting them in a box with some bedding and sent us off with smiles all around. I'm so thankful that Denny's is part of the neighborhood, and for great employees like Aela who make the experience fun.

Her care for my situation went above and beyond what you would expect from a pet store employee, and I was touched by her kindness. The store is clean and beautiful and has great selections for everything you could need. I choose a more holistic approach to food and dog care and feel like this store meets my needs, no matter what I am looking for. Awesome staff, awesome selection, and clean store! She was charming, transparent, and we truly enjoyed her energy and approach. She also shared that the Kirkland puppy play had just restarted and they're still trying to spread the word. We reserved again for this Saturday and I called ahead, asking the store manager (Ted) to please have Diane call me if our puppy ends up being the only one again, as that defeats the purpose of puppy play and socialization. Unfortunately, Ted was not particularly accommodating or customer-oriented. He stated she likely wouldn't call because she teaches classes all morning. When I explained that Diane had almost done so the previous week, his response was, "It's free!!" -- which felt dismissive. While it may be complimentary, our time still has value, and the goal is structured social interaction with other puppies. After some back-and-forth, he did take my number to relay the message, though it felt reluctant. We understand puppy play can serve as an introduction to training services -- and we are genuinely considering signing up. We really like Diane's approach. However, customer experience matters, and interactions like this do influence our decision about where to invest in training.

Very easy online appointment setting. You can choose what services and any add ons you may want and also pick a specific groomer if desired. Very good communication through text, email, and the Square Go app. Pricing was similar other grooming places. The shop in right on the corner of NE 85th Street and 132nd Ave NE in Kirkland's Rose Hill neighborhood. It's a bit tricky to find the first time because it seems like you are entering into a condominium complex. The shop is nice and has a few pet supplies for sale. Upon arrival I was greeted by Fiona who would be the groomer of the day. She was very nice and our pup seemed to like to her. Once the session was complete I received a text message that she was ready to be picked up. She came out beautiful and happy. Fiona told me how it went and even pointed out a minor concern with her rectal area. Checkout was seamless on the tablet at the register counter and Fiona didn't hover while I was deciding on the tip. She also noted that the "add ons" I ordered online were actually included in the full service bath. I really appreciated the honesty! Overall, we are VERY PLEASED with our dog's first grooming experience and highly recommend Kirkwood Pets to other pet owners. We will be back.

As we were trying different hats, one of the employees Arrow offered to take some pictures of our birthday girl and told us that they offered a birthday goodie bag. We were delighted to hear this as who doesn't want to spoil their precious puppy on their special day? It took only a few minutes for them to get us a bag and Arrow also mentioned that we get 25% off treats, toys and food that could be used with the same year. What a steal! The staff was super friendly and helpful. You will find a lot of brands that you don't see in the super-pet stores that we used to frequent. One interesting learning that I recently obtained is the existence and use of a 'bully stick' for dogs. Mud Bay has a large selection of all shapes and sizes.
