I never expected my first visit to MudBugs to be because my dog accidentally locked me out of my house at 1:00 a.m. during a tropical storm! Josh, one of the security guys, went completely out of his way to help me when I had no phone, no wallet, and nowhere to go. He let me use his phone, helped me figure out my options after the police and locksmiths couldn't help, and connected me with his friend, Mike from Mike's Jersey Taxi. Mike literally got out of bed in the middle of the night and drove me and my Labrador 45 minutes each way so I could get a spare key and make it safely back home. Both Josh and Mike showed an incredible level of kindness that I'll never forget. You must must must try the Rockefeller dip, especially if you enjoy spicy food. It is fantastic. The wings are always delicious and exactly what I am expecting and wanting. But today we ordered the dip, and holy moly!!! It's delicious and I've not had anything quite like it. Ok... let's talk about Mud Bugs as a bar. The staff works together and they lift each other up and they're having fun doing it. The drinks are great and you cannot beat the prices. I'm so thankful I didn't read the the reviews or prejudge going to this club. My hubs wanted to stay in and watch football and I wanted to karaoke. Well....I'm on vacation, so I got a Lyft driver and went to MudBugs. I had a blast singing karaoke, and the dj was great. Maybe it's because I'm born and raised in TN, but being alone was not a problem and I was only expecting to have fun, and I did. I didn't want to sit all alone, so I joined a couple sitting at a table. Turned out they are from TN also, and I had so much fun! Try kindness, young people. Reviews are great, but try not to prejudge and expect the worst. I'm 54 and I had fun with everyone. I didn't see any drugs, and nothing was slipped in my drink either. I've been on two trips to Gulf Shores now, and MudBugs is always a highlight. We're November visitors and therefore not coming in high season, so we probably have a very different experience than people coming here to party in the summer. We haven't had our credit cards stolen, and nobody in our group has been drugged to our knowledge. The two people who run karaoke have voices of angels and the bar is very accepting of anyone willing to make an attempt at a performance. We paid $5/person as a cover at the entrance and were able to come in immediately; no wait at the bar for service. Our bartender was hilarious and we may have received some airdropped pictures from her by the end of the night. I'd love to call her out for her spectacular service, but I'm pretty sure she kept giving us all different fake names. Are there good cocktails? No. We somehow got sold some no-sugar cocktail-in-a-box that was supposedly 90 calories (it was 4 servings of 120 calories). Is this a classy joint? No, it is not. Are there some suspicious clientele? Yes. Did we hate our lives the next morning? Yes. However, our beach crew had a blast screaming karaoke at each other and dancing until we piled into possibly the only Uber left in off-season Gulf Shores and wandered home. read more

This joint has been around for awhile and it seems to attract a lot of locals due to the awesomeness that they seem to stay open later than a lot of the other area establishments that cater more to locals (unfortunately not New Orleans late but later than most places in these parts). They have karaoke here and it is... interesting to say the least as karaoke so often can be. Beer prices are reasonable and service is typically quick, friendly and pleasant. There are usually all kinds of people here and sometimes even what might be thought of as some rough looking characters but everybody has always just focused on having fun and nobody has ever caused a ruckus when I have been present. read more

As soon as we opened the door it has the strongest Sewer smell I have ever smelt. I went into the bathroom and i about three up, it was so strong, I had to go so bad . Looked at the restaurant it was filled with nobody was there, We ended up leaving and they didn't even giv e us our money back. We was there 3 minutes. Great place to go, they give out free drugs to the women in their drinks, and the place has this pleasant aroma of sweat and vomit. Plus the bartenders will take a stranded girl home, no problem. And the security you can't beat them, if they see you having fun, they'll kick you out, real professionals. Mudbugs is well known by the hospital staff because of how many people they get that are drugged from there. ***BEWARE*** People are being DRUGGED - During spring break my drink was drugged, I only turned my back for a second while the bartender poured it and I kept it within my view at all times after that. I Started feeling sick, numb legs and fuzzy within 15 minutes of taking a few sips. Luckily it was my first and last drink of the night otherwise I would have just thought it I was getting drunk and would have drank entire glass. I was unable to walk for several hours. My friends had to carry me out. Once back at our hotel they call a paramedic. One of our other friends was in the hospital for 2 days from that same night for being drugged as well. - OTHER GROUPS OF SPRING BREAKERS HAD SIMILAR OR WORSE EXPERIENCES THE SAME WEEK, including having their credit cards ran up extremely high ( 200 to 300 dollars) and they won't remove the charges. Ok. It's a dive bar. If I loved dive bars, it would be a 5. But I don't. I should have read the Yelp reviews. My fault. Mudbugs has no seafood. Actually, they barely even have food. See my photo, handwritten menu from some other bar's name. Beer was bottles only, but reasonably priced. They did have mixed drinks in plastic cups. TVs were small, but they were happy to put it on Thursday night football. I didn't order food, but saw some and decided not to order. It's the off season, so it was dead as hell. Then there was the heat issue. The heat was not working and as the temps dipped into the low 40s outside, so did the bar, following about 10-15 degrees warmer. I can't imagine being there this morning when it was 33 degrees outside. BUT! Now I know. I hear the seasonal crowd is strong and it's packed. Lots of people having a good time. I will come back, after I have dinner, during season and update. Oh, not to forget them, the staff was friendly. Freezing I'm sure, but serving away and happy to help. I would call this place home if i could! I am from ATL georgia and took a huge group of friends to this bar every single day of our trip! We loved the staff, (jonathon teems, tatcher.. even the owner! She was lovely!) This bar and it's locals were so welcoming and full of energy! This bar made our trip worth it! Zaddy trey, a "bartender" was very disrespectful. My brother I'm in law, who is 21, had this "zaddy trey" serve us and told us he was going to call the cops when he literally served us. The bathroom stinks and when you flush the toilet sewish comes up out the toilet and it smells dirty vag!!! it was gross!! They are not nice and it is really weird there. We had a blast here!!! Some reviews talk about a blonde bartender being dumb as rocks. This is not true. Whoever said that needs to just not be in bars anymore, or who ever said that probably got cut off and was mad about it. With my rating on this bar gets a four star on a different view than my usual, mainly because----it's based off of the company I was with. This is a very fun place to go and play pool and sing some karaoke! Smoking is outside on the patio. The crowd is a younger crowd, for what my friends and I saw----but they still were inviting to some change. It was also neat to see a young female karaoke DJ operating a show by herself (not common). I mention this because----When searching for karaoke on Yelp----it's lacking hits. Double tall drinks are $10.00 (in a size where I am from they are single drinks).
