Road tripping with kids can be difficult, especially when they are picky eaters. This place was perfectly situated on our drive and we are so happy we stopped in. Bathrooms are clean and upgraded. The wait staff is very accommodating with the kids ready to make an individual kids pizza or Mac n'cheese (neither of which were on menu) for my kids. The food we ordered was perfect. Burgers, simple but good. We will definitely try to stop again next time we are driving through the area. read more

We stopped for a quick lunch on our way to Branson. The food was absolutely amazing. I had a patty melt w/ fried and my husband had a bacon cheeseburger with fries and we we're both super happy with our choices! We also had fried mushrooms as an appetizer. Portions were a generous size and our drinks never got down to half way before being refilled. Staff was awesome and the lady working the bar area was super sweet. Like another reviewer, we were returning from a float trip on the Huzzah. This place is ALWAYS busy when we drove by, so we stopped in with our party of 11 people. The services was quick, friendly and perfect. We started out with two appetizer combos. There was plenty for everyone, and the fried cauliflower was AMAZING. Also on the platter; breaded mushrooms (very good), cheese sticks (good), toasted ravioli (excellent). There was nothing left, because it was so good. Several had side-salads, which were fresh, crisp with a nice mix of lettuce, veggies and a bit of REAL bacon on top. The specials that night were a "western-cut" (thick!!) BBQ pork steak, pulled-pork sandwiches. Members of the group got both of them, and they were both were reported AWESOME. The pork steak was really thick, perfectly cooked, sauce was good, and the sides were great... fries and potato salad (not too sweet, slight mustard hint). The pulled pork sandwich was very large, sauce was yummy and the corn on the cob and green beans (both fresh garden items) were great. I and some others got menu items. Given the waitress/owner's suggestion, I went with the 4-piece fried chicken. Breading was light, crispy and not the slightest bit greasy. I want her secret! Simply perfect. The boys-from-Germany in out crew were less adventuresome, and went for the chicken fingers. This again was the awesome breading and grease-less frying and the boys loved them. Our vegetarian opted for the whole catfish and wasn't even able to finish one whole side (too big!) but loved the flavor, cooked exactly right. My wife got the hot ham & cheese sandwich ("when you're in a place that cooks what your mom would, you get what your mom made"). She said it was great, and shared the home-made chips with me (crunchy and tasty). Last on the list, we had one cheeseburger on the table, and that was welcomed and enjoyed by our other German. Final comments: Monday evening, group of 11, drinks served instantly, appetizers served before our ravenous group even started to stir and everyone's dishes came up quickly, HOT and ready to go. My recommendation is that if you're going down I-44 near Leasburg, you stop in and fill up. I will, for SURE. read more

I recently went for a hike in the Huzzah Conservation Area and worked up quite an appetite. Heading back toward I-44, at the crossroad of Highway H and Historic Route 66, was a bastion of burgers, fries, pizzas, subs and other traditional roadside offerings. The interior is spacious, yet spartan. There are play areas for children and a pool table for the adults. The prices were reasonable, but the friendliness of the staff is what will bring me back on my next hiking excursion. It was a chilly early-afternoon, so I didn't check out the patio, but it looks spacious. Overall, I'd say it's an affordable roadside diner with above average roadside diner food. Check it out the next time you tube the Meramac or go for a hike. read more

The food is always cooked to the right temperature. Although there are no billboards directing you to the place the food and the reputation speak for themselves and that is why the locals keep this place busy. Found this gem years ago (just hidden off the Leasburg exit), and keep coming back. We travel between St.Louis and Lake of the Ozarks about 30 times a year, and frequently make Skippy's our stopping point to eat. Nothing flashy or fancy here, just good people delivering great food and service. You may just be passing through, but the locals will make you feel welcome; part of the crowd. Over the years, we've tried everything, including Pizza, Burgers, French Dip, Pork Steak, and the like. We've never left disappointed, or hungry. Overall, a great experience! We stopped by here after camping at the Ozarks Outdoors camping resort. Our waitress was extremely friendly and attentive, we had 2 small children so she didn't mind bringing out crackers for snacks when asked and extra plates. The building itself looks new, very friendly atmosphere and very clean! The food was amazing! Very fresh and tasted great. The only down side was that we waited quite a bit for our food to come out, but it's well worth the wait if quality matters. We found the people to be delightful including our server (young lady, super friendly and professional) and Skippy who came by to talk with us as well. Very nice man. The food was excellent and reasonably priced. The Walleye was wonderful as well as the bacon cheeseburger. The atmosphere was colorful, clean and very friendly. It looked as though it was new. I was served raw chicken livers and didn't realize it until after I ate one that was cooked. The owner said nothing didn't apologize or anything and waitress had cook refry it . The cook came out sat at end of bar starring at me as if I did something wrong. I was so ill that Sunday night and still sick today I'm sure I got food poisoning . Oh then this came back out again from the kitchen and sat there at the end of the bar sweating profusely wiping her head with her hands I wAtched her take orders from the waitress and go back to the back to cook them makes me wonder if she washed her hands. We won't be back. The catfish, burgers, and homemade chips were great, but the "Chicken Caesar Salad" was inedible -- old rusty iceburg lettuce with some kind of grey "chicken" on top. The waitress offered various fixes, but rther than do anything "salad", we opted for an extra plate and sharing. The worst part is that the "chicken caesar salad" was not removed from our bill -- even after I asked that it be. As I said, we won't be back. read more

I believe this is my first one start review and it will be a rare occasion that a place is so bad that it rates one star. I'm not disputing the good reviews others have given, but the situation we encountered was inexcusable. We had a large group which often results in slow service and sub-par food, but nothing like we experienced here. The restaurant knew we were coming and, in fact, called us the day of our reservation to confirm the number. The only positive aspect of our experience was that the waitress was very friendly. They took our order and half of the meals were delivered pretty quick. We were treated with mashed potatoes that were lukewarm on the outside and ice cold in the middle. Even the gravy was cold. The corn on the cob was hot to the touch in parts, icy cold in others. It would not even melt the butter. Yes, some items were returned, but there was so many food problems, and half the group was still waiting for food, that we gave up trying to send things back. Most people could not eat more than half their meal because the food was so cold. We finished our meals and the waitress brought our checks. Well, she brought the checks to half of us anyway. The other half were still waiting to be served!!! Half the group was finished and ready to go, the other half still waiting! The owner had the gall to come over and rave about how good the food was. He didn't want to listen to our complaints. His speech was slurred and I apologize if it was a physical issue, but to us he sounded drunk out of his mind. A terrible experience that would have ruined our appetites even if the food was worth eating. Maybe if it was hot it would have been. I will never know because I will never set foot in there again.
