We stopped in for lunch. One of my wife's cousins recommended we go. I ordered the 1/2 pound Steak burger. I thought it was good and had good flavor. I felt it could have used a little more sauce on it but it was still good. My wife ordered the Black and Bleu Burger and she said she didn't care for it. Felt it was dry and lacked flavor. I came to Jacksonville for the Players seeking a weekend full of exceptional golf and beautiful dames, but my entire weekend was exasperated by the one and only Mudville mound at the one and only MUDVILLE GRILLE, an absolute hidden GEM in the city. This establishment made our weekend, and I will come back for the Mudville Mound for years to come. Coming from Atlanta, GA, I would easily drive 6 hours just for a single bite of the Mudville Mound. Have been going to Mudville for a few years now. We went tonight after not going for a while. A few months ago we had a string of not amazing food experiences BUT wanted to give them another try since they are our neighborhood sports bar. I am only reviewing on tonights experience. It was wonderful. The food and service met expectations tonight. We ordered 2 draft beers (bud light 20 oz $4 and Yuengling 20 oz. $4). You can beat those prices. They updated their specials board from a white board to a screen. Its a little hard to read from a distance but it adds a nice modern flair to the place. My husband ordered the pork shank (on the specials board $11.99) and I had the Fish Ruben (regular menu $13.99) both were amazing. The pork shank wings were fall off the bone and in a really nice teriyaki sauce. I tried one...then asked for another! My fish ruben was served very hot and the fish was CRISPY! The bread and fish did not get soggy with the dressing and coleslaw on it! The fish was a light white fish and the batter was light and well seasoned. Not too salty but not bland. We both decided that Mudville is back in our restaurant rotation! read more

Had a fun time at the music room seeing the sauce boss the other day. How fun is that that they are pulling in cool little music acts! The room is laid out pretty nicely although in my humble opinion the music room should be more dim, everybody knows people drink more when it's dim inside. The decorations are decent and the fixtures and furniture are OK. The bartender was friendly enough and we sat at the bar and ordered food. The pickle chips are super salty we couldn't finish them, the conch fritters were pretty good. The fried mushrooms were standard coming from Sysco fare. Nothing on the menu really appeared to be special it was just very standard run-of-the-mill bar food. You're not gonna come here for the food. I'm excited and another little musical trying to pull in quirky little acts from around the country. The sound in the room was pretty good although I think the musician brought his own sound system, although maybe not because there was a sound guy in the back of the room. Parking wasn't too bad, less traumatic than I expected it to be. The crowd was an interesting mix mostly older people which you don't see too often so that was fun also. The beer selection was OK, your standard Budweiser and Miller light types +2 local beers on tap. They do not have hard water. The girl didn't even know what I was talking about when I asked for it. Oh and they charge $.35 for a 1 ounce plastic. ramekin of ranch dressing. Come for the music not the food. read more

Great service and food was good and well priced. It's a bar with a kitchen for gods sake, not Orsay! Great burgers and the shrimp basket was big and all was affordable. For a party of 15, no complaints about the 2 waitresses who served us and got each bill correct. It's a bar once again and for the type of establishment it was clean and respectable. So you want fancy smancy, go some place else. read more

Hate to write this since we went the other afternoon and had a lovely server on a Sunday morning at the bar.... However tonight was the complete opposite experience and we most likely will not be back. The bartender, charlotte i believe, was totally unwelcoming, Whiney and awful with customer service skills. Complained the whole time we were there about having to work, drank on the job and gave zero f***s about making people feel welcomed. She only tended to her regulars, which she was complaining to the entire time as well and wouldn't even look at us while she "graciously" took our order. Food was just okay,but so off-put by the service that we left with a bad taste in our mouth. Like I said however, we had a lovely lady the other afternoon that was sweet, efficient and knew how to make a customer feel comfortable. Maybe we will stick to Sunday mornings. read more

We went today, 9/4/2019, hurricane day. They offered a hurricane brunch plate, big breakfast. The food was decent, the fried food was awesome, mushrooms, French fries and tater tots. Service was decent. Not super kid friendly but not awful. Iced tea was good. I don't recommend the bloody Mary's. The mix is too strong. read more

I've been to many restaurants and places , but this is by far the worst service / food I've had !. Starting of we got to the restaurant hesitant but excited to try a place we have not been to before , we'll they didn't seat us when we got in , basically said sit where you want , okay so starting of we got our menus and drinks we ordered an appetizer which was onion rings, they came out and where two different kinds of frozen onion rings and were served with paper plates. Shortly after we got that I noticed in my drink there was a film like substance or soap residue , so I asked our server for a different glass , she seemed like she had an attitude because I asked , she came back with a to go cup and said , "I put it here for your safety " but said it in a snarky response and got us 1 napkin a piece and put them on the table harshly , we got our food , my boyfriend asked for medium rare egg burger with fries and a beer , well the burger came out well done like really well done , and the fries were cold , and I got butterfly shrimp with fries and Mac and cheese, just awful . I also ordered a chocolate milkshake which had freezer Burnt ice cream in it ... overall the only good thing was the beer my boyfriend got , not happy and definitely not worth $55 Not diverse in the least bit , felt very uncomfortable and very judged . 1/10 do not recommend !!! read more

Wow. Eight years later, and a few things have changed. Buzztime/NTN trivia is gone, as are the pool tables, but there are still a dozen plus TVs in the main dining area. Main dining room had a complete remodel about a year ago. The back dining area has been converted into the Mudville Music Room, where local, regional and national acts perform in this comfortable listening room. There are usually four daily specials for under $10, including a drink. The food is pretty good, and the portions are decent. Friendly wait staff. read more

This place is like a music hall with restaurant bar food and drinks. They do have a wide variety of great shows but we are talking small venue shows. I was there this night seeing the Sauce Boss. The staff is friendly but it took a while to for us to get drinks. We also ordered some of the foods such as nachos but I was not impressed with them which is why I gave it only a three star. The nacho cheese and toppings for the nachos were cold. And the other items that were ordered about the table were not very impressive either. Without the great shows, I would probably not return to this location and rate them lower. read more

The French fries were completely unseasoned. And the Au jus that came with the French dip had absolutely no flavor. I could have dipped my sandwich in warm water and had the same effect. The beers were cold but the food was bland and would definitely not bring me back. I know it was the end of the night but if you can't put out a quality product let the patron know that the product is not available, apologize and offer an alternative. We LOVE MUDVILLE! This place is our version of Cheers! We have been visiting for many years and is our go-to place for The BEST WINGS in Town! Louis's dry rub - grilled and tossed in their homemade death sauce - YUMMY YUMMY YUMMY! Every time we go - the staff is great - very friendly - take excellent care of us and it's like part of our extended family. The patty melt is also super yummy - the chicken quesadilla with the chicken tossed in the cajun ranch - deelish. We love getting our sports fix, having a few adult bevies and enjoying our yummy food! Will we go again - YES - Just try and keep us away! LOL read more

This is still a great neighborhood sports bar. Good food, good wait staff, and the music room does live music. Mudville has a full bar and plenty of tvs. On days without music, the music room is available for private events. They also give a lot of support to neighborhood and civic groups. read more

Although I love the service at Mudville Grille, I am disappointed, for the second time, that the bar area has been turned into a listening room! Last Saturday night I met a friend there to catch up and discovered that there was a cover charge because they had live music, which I love! I was excited to hear whats been going on with my friend, we ordered drinks and started talking, only for a woman with a recording device to chastise us like children for talking. I mean finger to the lips and shushing noises. We were told that the BAR AREA was a listening room only, no talking allowed while the performance is being conducted. We promptly left. Who wants to pay $15 to be chastised and treated like a child? Furthermore, aren't concerts supposed to be loud with people having fun? This happened a couple of years ago on a saturday night when a little girl was singing gospel music! Gospel music in a bar sang by a child! So much for having a good time at this place. Mudville Music Room Jacksonville's best kept musical secret - the back half of Mudville is a music/listening room with regular concerts. A mix of folk, Americana, jazz, blues, bluegrass, and most often songwriters. Concerts are usually $10-20 (occasionally free or for donation). Last time we were there wine was $4.50 (yeah!). Listening to folk music with sweet potato fries is a special kind of happy everyone should get to feel. The majority of the food is passable - the wraps or nachos are our choice for a full meal but we consider sweet potato fries mandatory. The other half of Mudville Grille is classic sports bar. I work in a Hospital, was ecstatic when I recently learned that UberEATS has moved into certain parts of towns... I rallied a few coworkers on Friday night and we ordered from this restaurant... unfortunately it was very mediocre... I found that they ignored every minor request I made, such as please include some ranch dressing for dipping fries... Wow, my husband and I had heard good things about this place and finally stopped in for a sandwich today. The service was outstanding and we had our food in no time. My husband had the Philly cheesesteak and I had the french dip. Both were delicious. We will definitely be back. Maybe next time for a game of pool and some wings. read more

My husband wanted a salad with grilled fish - we looked up the hours online before we headed that way -- Mudville Grille was supposed to open today at 10:30am. We arrived at 11:45am and they were closed. Disappointed - yes, frustrated - yes. Probably won't be back as they have let us down in the past as well.
