Really disappointed! We came in and were the second group in line. The couple in front of us ordered and the young girl behind the counter came over, asked them if they were all set (they said they were) and then proceeded to ignore us. We waited for about 5 mins while she did NOTHING behind the counter. Her 2 coworkers were busy preparing orders and she just walked around ignoring us. It appears the shop is being run by teenagers without a lead person, and it's not a good look when these people can't offer basic customer service. A simple "I'll be right with you" would have sufficed. At this point we left. But I would hope some basic customer service retraining comes into place when management reads this review. The Muffin House Cafe is a bakery - coffee house and the only one in Mendon. The bakery case always looks well stocked and the muffins are the best items they offer. All other pastries tend to be overly sweet and sticky. They only offer one gluten free muffin and it is always the same. The coffee is hot and tasty, not the watery stuff at DD. The service is quick and pleasant. The seating is adequate. The decoration and painting are dull and lifeless. read more

My girlfriend has come here several times and when we went for a weekend drive she suggested we stop here for a coffee and some muffins and cookies for our drive. I don't remember how I stumbled upon this amazing cafe. I been going to the Muffin House Cafe for 7 years now. Their muffins are huge and delicious. They have so many different flavors to pick from it will be hard to pick. I've visited their Mendon, Hopkinton and Medway location and it doesn't disappoint. They also have tons of coffee flavors and dairy options. One of my personal favorites is the hot vanilla chai. It's like Christmas in a cup. During summer I always get the big Lous. During the holiday season they have pies and my personal favorite one is their banana cream pie. If visit any of their locations be ready to have to wait since they are always busy. The staff is supper friendly. My favorite location is the one in Mendon since they have plenty of parking. They have indoor seating and during summer they set up tables and umbrellas where you can enjoy your food. The only reason why it doesn't get 5 stars is because during school breaks they have the young kids working and well let's say your drink is either made right or completely wrong. They also have a great selection of different kinds of sandwiches for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Places are moderate size but always worth the trip. My son and I go here weekly for a breakfast sandwich and coffee. Weekends are super crowded but you can order ahead sometimes when the app. works. Though my star rating has wavered up and down a bit, I am bringing back five stars because I have seen improvements in some of the areas that caused me to subtract them to begin with. General flow of taking and filling orders has become more efficient, which is a big thing for me. So thank you to the folks here for working on this. I have officially shifted from hot coffee to iced, yaay summer. With this, I have changed from hot French roast to iced salted caramel-- less ice (you get more coffee for your buck). I posted this separately, but I will reiterate; I worked with Robin to create a customized dirt bike cake for my boyfriend's son's 7th birthday. It came out exactly as I had envisioned. The process was easy, good communication and the cake was moist and flavorful. As you may note, I have at least 50 check-ins here. This is completely purposeful... Uhhhhh...WHAT A TREAT!!!!! My boyfriend and I were in town and hanging with his nephew at Choate park down the street. Found this little gem and split the everything sandwich and got some muffins to go, blueberry and the double chocolate. They were huge, delicious and perfect consistency. We stopped by for a sweet treat and coffee. The line moved along, due to plenty of staff. As usual the monstrous muffins were fabulous. It's a busy place in the morning, with lots of coffee to go orders. We sat a while and I noticed the variety of ages there, ranging from a group of older gentlemen (obviously regulars) to a business meeting, to singles working on laptops. My one issue is that the line flows past the pastries and muffins. The very last case is full of muffins, so when I'm next to order, I'm not yet up to that case, and I can't see the muffin choices, because the people ahead of me in line are standing In front of that case. Decent ice coffee and pastries. Wish their figure 8's were half raspberry and half cheese. Muffins have a weird taste, a little cardboardy. Ordering is a mess. They have pastry cases set up, but try to take your order before you can see all that is available and then there are so many girls running around that you have no idea who is helping you. There has to be an easier way of taking orders and checking out. It gets a bit overwhelming sometimes. The girl taking my order this morning clearly got confused somewhere because she handed me an iced coffee that had been waiting around for 5 minutes and wasn't a s'mores like I'd ordered, but we were short on time so we took it. Ok so to start, my brother, friends and I stopped in here yeaterday for the first time. And our experience was subpar at best. The people were nice enough and the coffee was I guess ok. I ordered a regular peanut butter ice coffee. Barely could taste the peanut butter, to the point if you didn't tell me I wouldn't have really known it was there. And the same for my friends. But that's ok. Who knows, maybe it wasn't the strongest batch. I also had ordered an eclair and a lemon square and my friend ordered a cookie sandwich thing. The eclair and cookie tasted like pure freezer. Like a really overpowering bad taste. The lemon square was the only thing that really redeemed the visit, because that was good. Now I would have given this place 3 stars, but what has just completly turned me off is that my friend, who went here, left a review here on yelp. And the owner decided to reply and begin to tell my friend how it was our fault for not eating the pastries at room temp, and that would have made the freezer taste go away. As if you need instructions on how to properly eat an eclair!!! He also responded to my friends comment on the weak coffee and proceeded to tell him that "apparently you just don't like the buttercotch, and there's over 20 other flavors". Seriously?!?! Instead of looking at the review and thinking "man, they had a bad experience. How can I make sure that doesn't happen" he turns around an blames the customer for not likeing somthing and not eating somthing properly!!! That's just not acceptable. The perfect little morning pick-me-up! LOVE that they have EARLY hours (open at 5am?! YES!) and they have a massive selection of treats and savory breakfast sandwiches (French Toast bagels om nom nom). But do us all a favor and stick to the left when placing your order (it's pretty clear where the queue lines up). On a beautiful Saturday morning of a holiday weekend, the line was surprisingly not insanely long (9am and line was still only to the end of the 3rd case). The wait was a short one - Sabrina popped over and took our bagel and coffee orders (even put up with my picky picky questions with a massive smile - thanks m'lady!). Our order of two large coffees, two breakfast sandwiches, and a gigantic blueberry muffin rang up to about $22 (not terrible). My breakfast sandwich (spinach, feta, cheese on an asiago bagel) was delightfully and mouth-fillingly splendid (probably should have only eaten half...but I ate the whole dang thing). The blueberry muffin was fine to split - super moist and pretty well bombed with blueberries (nothing worse than a 'blueberry muffin' with like...two blueberries). All in all - satisfying! Mouth-watering selection of savories and sweets, quick line, decent prices, and delightful service. WIN! The muffins.....are MASSIVE (like...mouse house-sized). I suppose that they should be considering the name of this eatery, so be sure to order up one of their fabulous flavors while you're in (blueberry appeared to be the fan favorite, but the red velvet, pistachio, and chocolate chips were preeeeeetty tempting). read more

Three and a half stars! Placed a phone order this morning for a couple of breakfast sandwiches. I asked if they had onion bagels and they said yes! Which was great considering their neighbors next door got rid of onion bagels, and I was craving one! Arrived to collect the order, impressed with the new remodeling- it's been awhile since I've been in there and they have done a really nice job! Also ordered a "Big Lou's Mocha" to go with my breakfast sandwich. Staff were super helpful, friendly and efficient for a busy popular joint, couldn't ask for better help to be honest! However, once we had left and started driving away I realized that my sandwich was NOT on an onion bagel, but a rather plain bagel that had a bit of a funny artificial taste. Quite disappointing. I was not able to turn around at this point and return to the muffin house as I was working. I had also asked for cheddar cheese and if it was cheddar, it was possibly the processed type (blah!). The sandwich in general did not have a great taste to it. The mocha was not that great either, there was a lot of coffee grinds in it. I don't think I will be reordering any time soon unfortunately. They have done a really nice job to the shop, maybe I should've just ordered a muffin or pastry, they looked amazing! The cakes looked really good too! Eh, my opinion of muffin house has gone down a notch, sorry. I went to the location in hopkington, craving and I mean craving a muffin, specifically blueberry. When I got there there were absolutely NO muffins left! It was like 2pm. Yes, you heard that right, no muffins at muffin house! I was incredibly disappointed. Ok, that could mean the muffins are so good they run out, but plan accordingly or have someone drive over muffins from another location which is no more than 25 minutes. The coffee is good, not mind blowing. I really wish there were really good quality and local coffee Brewers around. I have to drive out towards Worcester to find a good one, like Birch Tree. read more

There are bagels seem very solid but their muffins are really outrageously good and there is a very good reason why there is a line out the door on many days. I suggest you don't let the line intimidate you as it will only be a few minutes in having said that it's worth the wait. Warning - the coffee cake muffin is really spectacular although it is clearly not on the diet list it really was amazing. Muffin House Cafe is a coffee shop from a 00s ABC Family show in the best way possible. It's a quint bakery/coffee shop with an endless supply of baked treats and coffee flavors that meets you needs regardless of the hour. I love their menu variety! They must serve 20 different flavors of iced coffee and I feel guilty because while I am a simple black house blend guy, there are so many other ones begging me to taste them (irish cream?!?) Their baked goods are also excellent, I picked up a loaf of frosted soda bread for my office and after devouring it, I wish I picked up a second. This is just an awesome spot, the staff is friendly and nice. The wifi is also really good if you need some internet access. Big fan of this place. read more

Awesome breakfast cafe. Quick service and lots of options. I personally love the banana chocolate chip muffin and the pistachio muffin. Their flavored coffees are also delicious. I've had the egg white with veggie breakfast on a whole wheat wrap, which was well made. I recommend adding cheese such as feta, because it adds a lot of flavor (almost all the flavor!). Was looking forward to a delicious lunch but was sadly disappointed. Ordered a tuna sandwich which I had enjoyed before at the Hopkinton store, but this sandwich was actually terrible: tasted like they opened the tuna can and put it on the stale bulkie roll. If there were mayo mixed in, I could not taste it, nor was there anything else (No salt or pepper, relish, celery, dill, or lemon). It was actually terrible and I had to throw it away. OMG- the muffins. the muffins are amazing. my fiance has come here a few times on a saturday or sunday morning to get us a little sampling, and i have to say that the muffins are so incredibly moist and light and delicious- they're worth every calorie. some of our favorite flavors have been lemon-blueberry, pumpkin, chocolate chip banana, pistachio, and pina colada. the flavors are robust, and the "goodies" are always pretty abundant (tons of chocolate chips in the banana chocolate chip). yes, they serve items besides muffins, but the bagel i got one time was just average, and nothing else has really looked all that good to me. once you try the muffins, you probably won't be too interested in anything else. read more

This is a great little spot with lots of selection and delicious food and drink. I've been many times over the years but this week was the first time I've been during peak hours and I'm pretty baffled by their ordering process. There's a line to the register-- but you're supposed to order at the back of the line. Multiple employees will point and ask if you've ordered yet. They will forget pieces of your order, and you will remind them again at the front. There will be other confused customers doing the same thing around you. You'll bond over the weirdness of it. This is a very cute, locally owned place with enthusiastic staff. The two times I've gone, I've only gotten herbal tea, but it was fine both times :] The staffperson serving me and I had a miscommunication about the tea, which she apologized for and offered to replace. I attribute this to the noise level inside as well as mask-wearing muffling our speech a bit. The line-up system is a little confusing, there is a line that goes alongside the bakery case, then seemingly a line that in addition goes straight to the cash register, for what I thought were drink orders only, but then was told that was not the case. My concern here was social distancing. There are stickers on the floor to designate social distancing spots in line, and people were trying to adhere to them, but the place is too small and crowded for that to effectively happen. Also, there is indoor seating, with tables pretty well spaced out, but no one, of course, wearing masks while eating/drinking, and that area being very close to the lines for food/drink. It felt pretty unsafe to me being inside in regards to this being in the middle of a pandemic. To be noted is that it is getting colder, and not as easy for restaurant/cafe owners to have people sitting outside instead.
