Stay away. Got a $864.00 estimate for exhaust work. Screw them, went down the road to Joe and Perky's and got it done for $295.00.

This shop used to be the pinnacle of transmission repairs locally for as long as I can recall…read more "Used to be" is the takeaway from this. I dropped my Jeep off to have the carrier assembly for the top half of the transmission replaced. The shop was quick to look at it and give me an estimate. Sadly, that is where the quickness ended. Parts were ordered (which were confirmed in stock by the shop, including a new clutch since everything was all apart anyway) and then my Jeep sat on the street in front of the shop for almost a full month. No movement, no work, just parked. After the month was over (literally to the day), I picked up the Jeep with a bill that was almost twice the initial estimate. At least I had my vehicle back, so whatever. Sadly, that did not last as the clutch master cylinder they installed to ensure the new clutch functioned appropriately was dead in less than 30miles. Nothing quite like driving home with a dead clutch pedal and you can't shift safely... After a reasonably quick turnaround of 4 days, I picked my Jeep up again with another new clutch master cylinder. Just when I thought the BS was over, another chapter unfolded. Two weeks later, I began to notice strange noises coming from under the Jeep after driving to and from the Cape. Once I finally got it home to inspect it, I discovered that the bolts fastening the driveshaft to the transfer case were never properly tightened. Some were completely backed out, and others were missing entirely. How is this even possible? Did they forget to finish the job or were they too busy rushing to move onto the next unfortunate victim of their potential incompetence? I am always one for giving people a second chance, but for the love of god do your research before handing over the keys.

Regardless of the (2) poor reviews for reasons particular to their situations please read my review…read moretoo.. here ya go::So.. we are from R.I. and had a transmission fluid leak while camping at Horseneck State campground in our class C RV.Dave from Rogers Automotive, who we had helped us initially (read review of Rogers), recommended Safe-Guard for the fix. : and 4 others independently told us that they were the real deal, (with over 50 years experience). We took the advice and slowly drove the 9 miles to Safe-Guard in New Bedford on back roads) and met our new best friend Sergio. We left our 20+ year old RV (affectionately named Idle Hours 3) (IH) and drove our car home,(an hour or so away). I must repeat, we really really checked this business out before leaving (IH) in SERGIO's care. We felt very comfortable doing this. Sergio and his crew have been fixing transmissions for a lifetime. We were in no rush and about 4 days later he called and said we had, well, "cooked" the tranny. He had to rebuild it and would also put in heavy duty parts that would include all of this tranny's updates.. We evaluated his quote and compared costs with a number of sources and found his pricing competitive and reasonable. The price was over $3k. We also found out a replacement tranny was not available.. rebuilding was the only option and Sergio was who we wanted in charge of this fix!We love old IH and it's paid for and has taken us on many fun filled adventures.. the investment was well worth it and instead of investing monies which are exorbitant for a newer rv we will continue to have more adventures in IH. For reasonably priced repair! When we picked her up,Sergio explained everything in laymen's terms and showed us all the old parts..The 60+ mile ride home was uneventful and the tranny worked perfectly.. we are ecstatic with the results and we owe it all to Sergio and Safe-Guard Transmissions.!! If for any reason we run into transmission problems again with any of our vehicles we would not hesitate to take the vehicle all the way out to Sergio!! (There are other shops like his that are closer, but Sergio is our choice ). Very happy to give 5 stars! Wish I could give 6. Really !
