Because of food allergies and gluten sensitivity it can be challenging going out to eat. My husband really wanted a cheeseburger yesterday so we went to MugShots in Columbus. The food was so good, the staff so friendly and service was so fast I just have to give them credit. The manager cooked my grilled chicken tenders and fresh vegetables in butter to address my allergies! Who really WANTS to eat grilled chicken and vegetables when 9 times out of 10 it's dry and tasteless? This chicken was flavorful and tender, the vegetables were fresh and perfectly seasoned. This was quite literally the most disgusting veggie burger I've ever been served. The ingredients were clearly no longer good. The burger had a burnt bun but somehow was completely soggy -- how? I am not sure, because there was less than a quarter size amount of guacamole (which was past due and very gross). This was also the size of the (brown/soggy) lettuce that was on less than 1/4 of the burger. My wife and I have been going to Mugshots since they opened in Starkville. We were happy to have one open in Columbus. We have been going there 2 to 3 times a month . The last few times it has been a hit and miss situation. There is no consistency to the service or the food. Last night we went there and were disappointed again. We ordered the Bishop cheese burger . One with a beer and the other with a milk shake. Beer was not cold and Mike shake was like a glass of milk. The young lady made another shake but it was not a lot better and very little flavor. I said just bring me a Coke. When burger arrived it didn't have much of a taste but we did finish it. Ketchup bottle was empty. Once before the ketchup bottle did not have the seal removed from the inside. The last few times it has not been a friendly reception at the door and on a couple of occasions we had to wait a few minutes for someone to come up front. Very disappointing! Ok. Support your local businesses. I started with 3.5 stars for the food and ended up deducting for the service. Wednesday evening, arrived about 5:45 to a restaurant with three customers and about 5 employees. 1 of the customers appeared to be on a date with one of the servers. She stood at his table and talked for the first 15 minutes I was there. At one point he was looking down at the table and she was rubbing the back of his head. Don't you serve food? I sat at the bar and got my one beer (never had the opportunity to order another), and my food in a fairly timely manner. The bartender disappeared and I saw her 10 minutes after I was ready for my check, 20 minutes after I needed another beer. If you're a server and walking through and you observe a PAYING CUSTOMER twiddling his thumbs and staring at the wall, ask if he needs something. One man came in and sat at the bar for OVER 15 MINUTES before he was given a menu and and the opportunity to order a drink. I left at around 6:50. In that hour between 5:45 and 6:50, three people came in. Says a lot for a business. The food is actually pretty good if you get the opportunity to order it. The handcrafted burgers were well done and the waitress kept coming back to check if we needed anything. We never have been to the same restaurant on the same trip however 2 days later we both wanted another burger from this place. Again service was excellent and the food was great. I've read the other reviews and maybe they were motivated to improve, I can tell you they did not disappoint. We were here for dinner around 7 the first time then around 530 the next. After placing our order for the first time, the waitress finally returns after 15 min and re-asks for our order because she had "forgot". Then we waited 45 min for our food (only three of us with simple orders), ridiculous considering the place was nearly empty and during peak dinner hours. Food came out cold. Not the first time I have been here, the fourth and the last after giving the place many chances. Every time food has come out cold and the service has been awful. I got the Savell, which sounds kind of plain but I couldn't decide because they have a lot to choose from on the menu. Anyways, besides the long wait my hamburger came not freshly grilled, maybe microwaved or from under the heat lamp, but definitely not just cooked...just warm enough to semi melt my cheese. I've had a lot better hamburgers at fast food places. To give them some credit though, I did like the sweet buns and their beer battered fries were good, but other than that I'm not sure I'd even give them another chance. I am visiting from San Diego where we don't have Mugshots. I went on a Friday night with my family. The food was good and the service was fine. They were a little slow getting the food out, but I'd rather have fresh food that takes long than fast food sitting under a heat lamp. However, I took one star away because even though the 5 of us asked for our burgers cooked at different temps, they all came out the same--well done. There was no pink in my medium burger. Lots of growing pains ahead for this place. Very lacking compared to the Starkville location. So I've gone here twice so far. Both of them were terrible. I gave them another chance, but they never made up for it. Visit 1: My birthday dinner. It was all sorts of bad. It took literally over 10 minutes to get a waitress and we had to ask twice for one. They messed up my burger and loaded it with all sorts of stuff that it wasn't supposed to have. The waitress said she would fix it and brought it back. All they did was sloppily wipe it off and brought it back. My bottom bun was ripped in half from being soaked in the extra stuff and being wiped off (and not very well, it was still all over it). The manager wasn't happy about it. Oh, and I had less than 10 fries with the burger. It was a pretty terrible first impression. Visit 2: Still very slow service and they got the check wrong. This time my burger was correct though. Bonus visit: A friend just went to pickup a call-in order. There was a guy complaining about getting the wrong food while they left and he had been waiting over an hour. They were almost home and decided to double check their food. Yup....wrong food. I was in Columbus on business. I always ask about places to eat and Mugshots was recommended by one of my students. I then check Yelp for a confirmation and typically only go to places with 3.5 stars or greater. I took a chance today and wasn't let down, but was also not..."WOW, I have to make this place a regular visit if I lived here!" I would give this place 3.5 stars if able, but going with 4...positive they will improve. I had the Texas burger (1/2 lb with fried jalapeños, pepper jack, lettuce tomato and fried onions). I also ordered fried pickles. The burger was large and had descent flavor, I had to add salt. The bun was the highlight. The fried pickles were soggy, too salty and lightly coated. I provided feedback to their assistant mngr, Stowers who was very receptive. Kassie provided my service and she was very was polite and attentive. The food arrived 7 minutes after ordering which was much quicker than I expected based on other Yelpers. My recommendation is to give this place a try and choose for yourself. If you like it, leave a review. If you had a problem, leave a review. In the end, give the management a chance to work on improving by saying something. read more
