Disappointing Experience for Out-of-Towners We were visiting Napa from out of town and decided to stop by Mumm Winery around 3 PM on a scorching hot day. The parking lot was nearly empty, and the outdoor seating area was far from full -- not exactly a scene that said "fully booked." As soon as we walked in, we were greeted -- or rather not greeted -- with a smug, cold, "Do you have a reservation?" No hello, no welcome, no warmth. The host then looked us up and down and said, "Let me see if I can squeeze you in..." which felt performatively fake, given the clearly empty space around us. We were seated outside on a screen porch with no circulating air in 98-degree weather. No fan, no breeze, no cold water offered between flights -- just stifling heat and underwhelming service. The sparkling flight itself was mediocre, and frankly, the overall vibe was pretentious and dismissive. We had hoped for a relaxing, welcoming wine-tasting experience in Napa and left disappointed and uncomfortable. Not the hospitality we expected from a place with Mumm's reputation. read more

Once you park your car here you'll check in at the front desk where you will meet your assigned guide. Walk-ins are welcomed, but not always accommodated depending on the time of day or circumstances. We had Andy as our knowledgeable guide, and he started us off with a reserve sparkling, then a tour of the history of the winery, followed by the facilities themselves. We were then led to the outdoor patio area where we enjoyed some of their grower series sparkling wines and a small meatless charcuterie plate. That was followed by the brut reserve rosé and their DVX high-end series. We also picked up a 6pk box of Annett's chocolates and a mocktail. After an hour of sitting outside looking at the scenery, it's time to check out the gift shop. You can pick up some oak aged and red sparkling there as well. We were members here for years, only cancelling due to personal health reasons. We've been wanting to rejoin, and I was looking at the website, considering stopping in for a birthday weekend tasting. I now see the tastings have changed a lot. Gone are days of choices, especially for those who plan to have a small amount due to not wanting to drive after a few tastings. Quite disappointed to see another usual stop has changed in the post Covid world, discouraging our future visits. The Napa valley has become too expensive for us now. Spending $300 to stop for tastings at a few wineries is crazy. Rating has nothing to do with the sparkling wine, which is always great. Service is always great and the views spectacular, but visiting is now cost prohibitive. read more

Our first proper wine tasting of our Napa vacation this summer took place at Mumm Napa, where we started with flights of their sparkling wine, which we found quite consistent and refreshing. Mumm has a beautiful property with its vineyard in perfect view from the tasting room and patio area where you can enjoy tastings. Our server was friendly and gave us some recommendations apart from what we had intended to order with our flight. She was a joy to discuss with us what we would be drinking and how to purchase bottles should we choose (which we did). The tasting room grounds and property are very pretty especially if you arrive on a morning where the weather goes from foggy mist in the vineyards for your backdrop to blue skies and sunshine. The weather was perfect for enjoying the sparkling wines outside on the June day we came for our tasting. I've been a member of this champagne club and was genuinely excited to bring my family for a tasting. Unfortunately, the experience left me feeling more embarrassed than anything else. While my group was engaged in conversation, one of our party members asked the host to describe the tasting lineup. He said he'd return shortly, but we ended up waiting a long time before I finally had to flag him down. He eventually gave the overview, but by then it felt like an afterthought rather than part of a curated, welcoming experience. We were each given a single glass of water at the beginning, but unlike every other table around us, we weren't offered refills or provided with a bottle of water for the table. It felt like we were being overlooked. Toward the end of the visit, one of my family members asked for another glass of water. The host told us no--because our reservation time was over. I've never experienced that before--being denied water. I felt like I had to beg just to get a simple glass of water for my guest. Only after pressing the issue did the host finally bring it, and frankly, by then the damage was done. As a wine club member, I expected a much higher level of hospitality--not just for myself, but for the family I brought with me. I also asked about swapping one of the bottles in my club pickup, since we had really enjoyed one of the wines during the tasting. I was essentially told it would be too difficult and that I should reconsider, because it's a lot of work for him to do. At every other wine club I've belonged to, flexibility and personalization are part of the value. Isn't that the whole point--trying new things and selecting what you love? I left feeling let down. What was supposed to be a special experience with my family turned into something I regret. I hope the club takes a hard look at how it treats its members and guests--especially those who have chosen to support it long-term. read more

My friend and I were at Mumm, which is the perfect place. The views are gorgeous and the champagne flight is amazing. Everything is great except it gets a little chilly, so they need more heaters or they need to do something about enclosing the space just a tiny bit. The one tiny disappointment for me personally: I asked if we could bring cheese, they wouldn't let us. They have a menu but it's not friendly to all dietary needs - we had to order a plate of nuts, etc. I could not eat the nuts and I could not eat the dry fruit (apricot, etc.,) due to serious health conditions and so I was left without any snack. The service was great. The table hosts are amazing. Definitely a place to have a good time. It would be better if they serve cheese or let us bring our cheese - in order for them to keep up with every sort of dietary restriction that a customer might have, or any health condition a customer may have ... They have the flexibility, especially when it's outdoors - that prevents any sort of contamination (if that's what they're worried about!) read more

I've been a member for a few years now and I truly love coming here. We love it so much that my boyfriend and I are both members. Probably doesn't make sense, but he's loves his DVX and I love my Pinot Meunier. I wanted to give a shoutout to Connor who made made our most recent visit amazing! We had an issue with our last month's shipment being sent back because we weren't home to sign and we weren't really sure how to go about retrieving it. We asked another person and they weren't sure and told us to call the 800-number but we hadn't gotten around to it just yet. This visit we mentioned it to Connor and he was able to fix it immediately! He is so kind, funny, knows his wines and we bonded over both being frenchie owners (I knew I liked that man.) We ended up leaving with 8 bottles that will keep us busy for a while but that won't stop us from visiting soon. Hopefully we have the pleasure of him serving us again. P.S.
