We've been club members for a few years now and have enjoyed all the wines offered. They have a great selection of wines from small wineries that you might not have an opportunity to try. I like that there are several levels in the club from 3-4 bottles to more and either a red/white combo or all reds. Every time we go there, the staff is so warm & welcoming even if we're just stopping by to pick up our club selection. The building has true Napa history behind it with a cozy downstairs tasting room and a bright & airy upstairs where they do a more formal sit down tasting. Located in downtown Napa, this tasting room offers wines from local wineries that are too small to have their own tasting room. We came in on a weekday afternoon to check it out and ended up staying quite a while. Not only was the woman pouring our wines super friendly and welcoming, but there was a local wine maker helping out as well, and we got to talk to him for a while. They will figure out the types of wines that you like and give you some to taste that they think you will love. They want you to be very honest so they can narrow down exactly what you like. There is no pressure to buy, but the tasting is $50. That's pretty steep for the type of things we usually do, but it was a very fun experience and we ended up picking up a couple bottles of very unique wines to enjoy at home. I like very casual and low-key wine tasting experiences, so sometimes I feel out of place if it's snooty and expensive, but I felt very at home and comfortable here. It was a lot of fun. read more

My friend knows people and so we stopped in here to visit with one of her friends and while we were visiting, he offered to pour for us. There's a lot going on at the Vintner's Collective. This is a very specific bonded tasting room that represents a small group of family-owned wineries that don't have tasting rooms of their own. It's neat to have the opportunity to taste these boutique vintners in this very classy space. Yes, the historic stone building dates back to 1875 and was a former saloon. A super friendly group of folks today who know what they have and are fantastic at making recommendations for your palette. Delicious stuff. I'm going to be upfront and tell you I'm very biased in my review. I've been drinking and collecting wine for over 35 years and I've seen prices skyrocket over those years. However, with over 400 wineries in Napa Valley and over 4500 wineries in California, there's a wine and a price point for everyone. The staff at Vintner's is fantastic and they know their wines. Because they specialize in small case production wineries that are hand-crafted, they can educate you on the vineyard, soil, winemaker, etc. Or you can just hang out at the bar and talk about life in general, the staff is great at interacting and engaging the customer as if you're a regular. The staff is NOT pretentious but they do know their wines and are willing to share that information if you want it. Some of the pourers have or are going through the WSET to educate themselves to be more informed or someday become a Master Sommeliers so if you want the technical stuff, they can talk the talk. I've heard that the average tasting in Napa Valley is up to $80 pp. So VC's fee is very reasonable and you'll most certainly be tasting higher quality wines. If you enjoy a big fruity Cabernet Sauvignon to a Sauternes style aperitif wine, you'll have the opportunity to try a $100+ wine that you wouldn't normally get to taste anywhere else. Or perhaps you enjoy Pinot Noir from 6 different vineyards from he same winemaker, you'll have that opportunity too. I would guess the price of wines are from $60 - $400 per bottle. At VC, there's an upstairs and a deck which are fantastic places to hang out and enjoy a tasting with a group of friends. And if you sign up for their wine club, membership will allow you to taste these wines with guests at a private tasting. I'm not sure how frequent they have their release parties but I would guess about 8 times a year, they have catered food and pouring of wines by the winemakers. And if you're lucky, you can meet and talk to the local celebrity, Rex Rickett, author of the book, made into a motion picture, "Sideways". Enough said, I love this place. read more

This was one of the only places I could find that offered walk-in wine tastings in all of napa! Parking wasn't difficult to find. There's a decent sized lot right next to Vintner's with street parking also available. We were a party of 6 and although walk-ins are normally offered only at the bar with no seating, they allowed us to have our tasting at their couch area on the first floor so that we could all sit! Despite not loving every wine in the tasting, this place deserves a 5 star purely on service. Sam was our sommelier for our tastings and he was very considerate of our group's taste preferences and gave us an additional wine (there's usually 5 for tasting no. 1). He was also patient and took his time answering all our questions about the wine. Our favorite wine by far was their "Late Harvest" Semillon - it was literally like drinking honey with a wine consistency! We purchased 2 bottles at $51 each. read more

Might have been an off day for me and not them, but I wasn't very impressed with VC. Tried several wines and while some were pretty good, none were as good as the wineries we had visited during the week. Sometimes it is the taster and not the tasting room, so my recommendation to anyone thinking of coming here is to modulate your expectations and enjoy the experience. If it turns out that they aren't as good as other rooms in the area, you won't be as disappointed as I was with pretty positive expectations. This is a nice setting and the people are very nice. We had a great time. Note that if you have mobility issues they don't have chairs at the bar where they do the tastings. Fairly common but noting it just the same. read more

While I love the overall *concept* of the Vintner's Collective, I didn't love this place. I wouldn't go so far as to call myself a 4 star "fan" so I'm giving it the 3 star "A-OK" rating. Since I'm a long time wine drinker and enthusiast, I'm always searching for my next "secret" wine -- wines that are rare or hard to find in stores, wines that nobody has heard of and wines that will excite me. Vintner's Collective fit the bill in letting me try a big variety of specialized wines. We walked in and were warmly greeted by the friendly yet slightly ditzy woman behind the tasting bar. She asked us our wine preferences (we're "professional" wine drinkers at home, ha ha, so we know what we like). She pulled out a large selection of big, bold red wines for us to try. Both well experienced and brand new wine drinkers can benefit from tasting here, so don't worry if you don't know the style of wine that you like. This tasting room had a zero snobbery factor which I appreciated. There was also no issue with the two of us sharing one tasting (we don't do this to be cheap, we do this so we can taste more wine)! The employees were very, very well educated about each wine that was poured, telling us all about the history and education of each winemaker, lots of agri-tech info about the vineyards and climate, and even the story behind the labels. I was very impressed. I found a few wines that I enjoyed and I didn't find the per bottle prices outrageous (most were hovering in the $50.00 per bottle range). Nobody pushed the wine club on us, as is the norm at other tasting rooms. Some very yummy cheesy biscuits were on the bar to help with palate cleansing. These were all pleasant elements that made for a positive tasting experience. While she was great at delivering information, we asked repeatedly for glasses of water and never got them (she kept distracting herself). Now on to the major negative about this place: The tasting options and fee structure are pretty simple: 3 wines for $10 or 6 wines for $30. Our hostess poured more than 6 wines for us. Now I understand having to charge tasting fees for a lovely room like this and to cover overhead, but it really, really gets me angry when tasting rooms refuse to refund your tasting fee with a purchase. We left with 4 bottles of wine (close to a $400.00 purchase), and the Vintner's Collective wouldn't waive the $30.00 tasting fee. This always leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I had a nice time during my visit and discovered a couple of new gems to add to our cellar. It's worth checking out if you want to try wines you've never heard of or try wines by some of California's cult winemakers. Note that you have to stand at the bar for your tasting and that you should allow at least an hour if you opt for the 6 wines tasting. Parking is easy on the street out front or in their private lot. read more
