Came here during happy hour because, I wanted to unwind with a drink after my TMJ physical therapy. My friend suggested this spot, she lives nearby. I appreciated the authentic Peruvian flavors. We sat at the bar, and I liked that the kitchen is open...it was nice being able to watch the food being prepared. The plating was attractive and made the dining experience feel a bit more upscale. Melba was our bartender/server, and she was attentive, friendly, welcoming, and provided great service. For appetizers, I ordered the Lomo Saltado Dumplings, which came with a ginger soy sauce. Each dumpling had one large chunk of beef inside. I wasn't a big fan of that...I think they would have been better with diced, more tender beef. They were fried perfectly with a nice crispy exterior. For drinks, I tried the $10 happy hr drinks, Menta Madre (pisco, fresh lime juice, passion fruit, and fresh mint), the Margarita Munay (silver tequila, orange liqueur, fresh lime juice, and rocoto pepper), and a $6 beer. These were some of the best happy hour drink prices I've seen. I also tried the El Capitán PG ($13), made with vodka, guava juice, fresh lime juice, and amaretto. Even at regular price, it was still a great value, and every drink was beautifully presented. For my entrée, I had the Seco de Carne, a beef cilantro stew served with beans, salsa criolla, and yuca. Since my iron has been low lately and I'm dealing with TMJ, the tender braised beef was much easier to chew than a steak would have been. I usually avoid going back to the same restaurants because I'd rather explore new places, but this is one of the few I'd gladly make an exception for. I'd definitely return for the bar! read more

Small spot conveniently located near i95 in a small plaza. There's indoor and outdoor seating available. Their ceviche is deliciously fresh and reminiscent to my own mothers recipe. If you like ceviche, I recommend the leche de Tigre. They also offer the classic entrees like Lomo saltado, which is also delicious. The last time I was there I tried their drink "el professor" which had strawberry and guayaba.... So good! read more

Came here with family and had such a good time! Hole-in-the-wall restaurant with very cute decor. They serve chips and creamy green salsa, but unfortunately ours were a little stale, however they did replace it will fresh chips! We got a couple wines and a vodka soda, everything tasted good. For entrees, we got pollo saltado, camarones al ajillo, and the chaufa pollo. Everything was perfectly cooked and tasted great! The server was very helpful when it came to plates and silverware. We've only had Peruvian a few times so far, so we visited Munay to experience the cuisine again. This restaurant did not disappoint! I loved the variety on their menu. Every dish was flavorful and fresh, and I especially loved the marinade on the steak. The extra effort on presentations of dishes was noticed and appreciated! The bucket is overflowing with compliments for this hidden gem in Norwalk, CT! If you're traveling through, Munay is conveniently located less than a minute off of Interstate 95 & if you're already in CT, do yourself a favor and race over here! So much pride is put into the food and beverage here right down to the magazine worthy presentation! The staff here is so warm and joyful as well! They made me feel welcome and safe in a bad situation. Excellent quality of food! You get what you pay for! Thank you, Munay! I love eating here and getting takeout. I usually get the fried calamari and pollo saltado. Their saltado dishes aren't drenched in just soy sauce and oil like most places. Instead, their sauce is packed with a ton of flavor and perhaps they use some sort of wine reduction? (Going with my tastebuds) and herbs. I love it! Good pieces of chicken too, not boney and fatty like other Spanish places. One downside was calling for takeout at 9pm (when they close at 10) and being told no. I asked if they closed at ten and then they took my order. I understand if it's 15-30 minutes prior to closing to not be "that person" and order food but it was literally an hour before closing. However, I'm happy that I was able to order/pay/leave all within 10 minutes A suggestion - if you close at 10 PM, I don't want to be told I can't order food at 9:00 PM. Perhaps staff and customers can be made aware of a time where they can no longer order food (after 9:30 or 9:45 seems typical and reasonable). Seeing a certain hour posted somewhere publicly would be super helpful for everyone! read more

Never had cilantro chili lime sauce but I found a recipe online and going to give it a try at home, it was wonderful with the chips they served. read more

Had an absolutely incredible time at Munay Kitchen in Norwalk CT. This place is a hidden gem. I had never tried Peruvian food so I wasn't sure what to expect. We were immediately greeted when we walked in and seated promptly. We tried an assortment of appetizers - from chicken dumplings to the fresh ceviche. Everything was amazing and flavorful. The chef was so knowledgeable about Peruvian food and the flavor infusions from other cultures. I truly can't wait to go back and try more menu items. read more

Please don't believe these bad reviews. This place is amazing. My husband and I are hard core Peruvian food lovers. We came on a random Wednesday afternoon. He ordered Jalea and I had chaufa mixto. Amazing! We loved that we could see the food being prepared. The waitress was so attentive and the fact that she spoke little English (according to another reviewer - we both speak Spanish) is a good sign. She gave us great recommendations and offered us to go boxes. It's not the pricier side for what we're used to but the portion sizes were huge. We both had our leftovers for dinner that evening. They are also COVID-friendly, all staff wears masks and the tables and spread out. You can see the menu using your phone and even pay without needing to interact with the waiters. We are definitely making the 45 minute drive for another visit soon! read more

What a great find! We dined at Munay Kitchen with three friends last night and had such a wonderful dinner. I had the tuna appetizer, and the trout entree. My husband had the flounder dish. Both were fantastic. As were the gratis chips and dip beforehand and the amazing desserts after. The wait staff was very attentive, and the manager came over to our table to check on us and chat. The cocktails were exotic and wonderful. There is plenty of parking, and even though the restaurant is housed in a former deli, it retains no trace of the previous venue. I wholeheartedly recommend it. What a great, unique addition to the area. read more

My husband and I walked in in a very good mood excited to try this new food place for us. We were greeted with terrible service and nothing but straight faces which just got worst as time went on. Not to pull the race card, but the couple that came in after us got greeted delightfully. We ordered our food and 1 item off kids menu which came out after my husband and I finished our food. I have super mixed feelings about my experience. I wanted to try a new restaurant and I was in the neighborhood so I stopped by and ordered some food for takeout. The woman who took my order spoke very little English so it was a little hard to communicate but no big deal. I asked about my order and it turned out that she charged me for a full order of chaufa instead of the side that came with a meal I ordered. I thought this was a little weird because I didn't order it, i just responded when they asked what kind I wanted (plain, veggie, chicken, beef etc). I just chalked this mistake up to the language barrier and didn't worry about it (despite the $20 over charge). After a little more wait time, I decided to ask for an itemized printout. The woman was unable to give me a copy but I saw the restaurant copy on the counter so I looked at at instead. This is when I saw that not only did she change me for an entire extra chaufa entree, she charged me for the most expensive one-an additional $6. I no longer felt like this was an accident and now I was feeling like I was being taken advantage of. At this point I asked her to cancel the chaufa entree order. It was one thing if it was a mistake but another if this was done on purpose. She gave me MASSIVE attitude even though my order hadn't even been started in the kitchen. Overall, the food was good but I don't like feeling like I was being taken advantage of because of a language barrier (or for any other reason for that matter). Additionally my two entrees and one appetizer took well over an hour to make which would have been one thing if it was takeout but seemed very long considering I was sitting and waiting...and the restaurant only had 3 tables occupied. read more

I'm having a hard time describing just how incredible the food here is. Everything I've had (yuca a la huancaina, anticuchos, tunita apassionada, lomo saltado, ceviche munay, pescado a lo macho) has been unbelievably good. Pescado a lo macho is truly one of the best dishes I've ever had. It's actually going to be difficult not ordering that dish every time I come here because of how good it was (seriously!), but I know I'm going to have a fantastic meal no matter what I order. The cocktails are super delicious as well, and I'm looking forward to having a few more pisco sours the next time I visit. Chef Jonathan and the rest of the team here will knock your socks off. I'm an avid restaurant goer from Manhattan, usually using Yelp to find hiding gems outside the city--this place looked interesting and the food was genuinely descent but the reason I won't come back is for the rude behavior when I sent back a drink that was poorly mixed and didn't taste right. The money was not the issue but the lack of respect to replace my cocktail with something less intense was inappropriate. In all the places I eat out, on a daily basis, guest hospitality in good restaurants is important and sometimes I return for that purpose alone, I won't come back here because they're are many other places that need the business and the owner should own up to his/her ridiculous policy and at least not find excuses not to speak to me regarding my complaint. read more

Great addition to Norwalk. Started with an order of the Nikkei (tuna) and Spring Roll (chicken), both were delicious though the tuna was a stand out. For our entrees my husband had the pescado a lo macho, and our daughter and I shared the aeropuerto ct. The service was great, very kind and attentive. Delicious and fresh!! My mother and I thoroughly enjoyed our lunch at Munay. We typically go to Fiesta down the street, but decided to give a Munay a try and at are glad we did. The food is well done, and you can see the chefs cooking from your table. We likely will not return to Fiesta, as we could tell the quality and freshness of the ingredients at Munay was much higher.
