I can't rave enough about Munnerlyn's! The flavors are ones you won't find ANYWHERE ELSE! They rotate the flavors so they don't always have my VERY favorite, "Mother May I Join the Circus" (cake batter ice cream with Mother's Circus Animal Cookies - you know, the pink & white frosted ones with sprinkles on them?! So good!) but daily flavors (including vegan options!) are listed on Munnerlyn's official Facebook Page so you can always check! There is something for everyone everyday. On my birthday this year I had Chocolate Stout. Delicious - there was a perfect hint of stout beer at the end of each bite! It's a tiny place that's adorable on the side of the Hwy 88 with a neon ice cream shaped sign with a few tables for outside seating. All the ice cream is made fresh & on-site. The one thing I can't stand is I go on their FB to see their board of what flavors they have for the day go to the ice cream shop the board matches what was on FB but they don't have the flavor. This little shack has big flavor. The large assortment of ice cream is amazing considering it's tiny structure. From the daily revolving flavors we ordered Rocky Road and Chocolate Peanut Butter along with a chocolate and a strawberry milkshake. The ice cream was superb and very creamy. It doesn't taste like it has an overwhelming amount of sugar. Unfortunately the ice cream they use for the milkshakes didn't taste like it had a strong flavor. Although good it felt like they were missing something. We give this place a solid four stars, it is very delicious even though the milkshakes didn't hit the mark for us the ice cream more than compensated for it. read more

What a lucky find for us. We were diverted from the 395 to the 88 due to an accident and had no idea where we were going or what we would find. We had promised our children ice cream during the long drive from Lake Tahoe to Los Angeles. Our children had already asked if we could get ice cream the next day after many miles of nothing. My only complaint which doesn't impact the amount of stars I give is their hours, on the site it will show they are open until say 8 but I will call and sometimes they will tell me no we are closing at 5. Stopped by during our Amador County day trip. We ordered the six mini scoop flight that let us try multiple flavors. Each one was different and delicious. They offer plenty of choices and if the rest are any like the three we tried, they're all delicious. We got Kit Karson Crunch (heath w/ coffee flavored), Folsom Prison Blueberry, and Cotton Candy. After Indian Grinding Rock SHP & Daffodil Hill we went to Munnerlyn's Ice Creamery. It's back on Hwy 88, not very far from the above. Still a fan and going there often as, let's face it, they make a great product. You will pay about $40. for 3 quarts of ice cream already packed or walk away with one of their great flavors in cone or cup. But I'm taking off a star for their use of rock hard almonds in some of their flavors......cherry amaretto springs to mind. Somebody I know broke a tooth on that one. Also, I've learned to hate almonds since Calif. supplies most of the world's almonds which take about a gallon of water per almond to grow so we boycott almonds and don't know why they allow them to be grown in our drought stricken state. read more
