I absolutely love Munroe Dairy. I fell in love with their coffee milk years ago at an event at the yachting center. They were passing out sample cups and I must have passed by 10 times that day. I always thought getting home delivery was going to be way out of my price range so I never pursued it, but was envious of those metal containers on everyone else's front porch. Then this past summer I noticed all the cow trucks parked on the hill on my way over the red bridge from Wayland Square and I followed the trail. I walked into the plant and asked if I could buy milk right at the factory? The staff there was so nice and accommodating, they said "you sure can!" and I was so excited! Of course I got a half gallon of the coffee milk but also tried the chocolate and a quart of cookies and cream. One of the staff members even helped me bring it out to my car. I did this a couple of times and then finally one day I asked how much it would got to get the milk delivered at home and I was astonished how affordable it was. So I signed up on the dot and became the proud owner of my own cow box. We now get milk delivered every week. John is our delivery guy and he's great. Our dog Tux loves him too because he always leaves him a treat. Our weekly order is two half gallons or whole milk, one chocolate and one coffee. It's been awesome introducing my non-Rhode Island relatives to Munroe Dairy coffee milk. We love the quality of the milk and the freshness the glass bottles delivers each time. It's also super easy to cancel or change your weekly order if you are going on vacation or have family visiting and need more than usual. I married a cereal man, so he has regular milk every morning and a big glass of chocolate milk after almost every workout. Super convenient location of the highway. I always have people who subscribe to Munroe order an extra nog or two for me. Now I don't have to anymore! The smell was incredible walking in due to the fact that they were whipping up batches of their signature product-nope not milk!- Sacred Cow Granola! When I walked in I saw that they were out of eggnog but the woman behind the counter assured me that another employee just ran up the road to the dairy to pick some more up. While I was waiting she let me sample two types of granola. She said that the space originally was industrial kitchen to make their granola. Now it serves as that as well as an ice cream shop in a place where you can pick up their products. They had a slew of products available. This is a score! $2.00 bottle deposit just means I'll be visiting more frequently in the future to drop off my bottles and pick up new treats! read more

Munroe Dairy is a staple in my hometown. Their regular milk, chocolate milk, and lemonade have a special place in my childhood-- a fantastic company with delicious products. (The fact that I had a milkman growing up is one of my favorite things to share with people outside of Rhode Island-- they are floored) read more

The positives: Regular milk as well as coffee, chocolate and strawberry are all delicious. Other products we have received from them have all been good quality, including produce. Glass milk bottles are cool, as is delivery to your door. Deliveries have always been on time. Customer service has been very good about refunding money when there has been a problem. Driver has even left an extra item the following week at times to compensate for an error. The negatives: Delivery errors and items being " out of stock". Once we received a full order while on summer vacation. Not sure where the order came from as we have no standing weekly order and this order did not exactly match any recent orders. While Munroe did quickly issue us a refund, it was a mess cleaning our box- spoiled milk that has sit in the summer heat for a week, yuck! Also we have had several instances where we got a wrong item or were missing one- though again, we were quickly issued a refund and we have not had that issue recently. Finally, unfortunately, you can not count on getting a specific item when you order it. Several times I have received a note in my box that an item I ordered was "out of stock" that day. Most recently, the dairy was out of stock on egg nog for the entire holiday season- really?? read more

I will start with the positives. There is something really cool about getting a box full of goodies delivered right to your door. The milk is great and love the glass jugs they come in. The site used to order on is easy to navigate and you have ample time to revise your order if necessary. Our weekly order consisted of: milk, cream, eggs, low-carb everything bagels (so good) and occasionally other odds and ends depending on our needs for the week. Now for the cons. Delivery times are inconsistent. When we first signed up, deliveries were made between 6:30-7:00. At some point our driver changed, and so did our delivery time. Towards the end, delivery time ranged from 9:00-10:30, with average time being 10:00. Seems a little late for a milkman order! The novelty of a milkman (in my opinion anyway) is waking up to find your order waiting for you. My husband called to complain and was given a scripted apology. In the end we closed our account which is kind of a bummer. Also (as others have noted), a lot of unhealthy products offered here. They do provide nutritional info. online though for most items, so you can at least check it out before purchasing. Overall, I probably would recommend this service to others. We recently moved here in July and were excited to see that we could have a milkman deliver our milk! Our family especially loves the strawberry milk. Our milkman, Jim, is also great. If I forget to place an order, he usually sends me a text asking what I need. We love this place and their products. We just moved to Rhode island and are currently on a waiting list for delivery but in the meantime we visit their store so we can pick up the goodies. It's true, milk and other beverages stay fresher in glass, one of the reasons we come here. In fact all of their products are fresh. Coffee Milk is so good, The tastiest Chocolate milk I've ever had and in glass. In season you have to try their Eggnog. Another thing we like about Monroe are the locally sourced products they sell. Ravioli and one of my favorites, Cavatelli. delicious Bagels and we always pick up a package of their homemade White Chocolate and Cranberry cookies. I think even after we start delivery, we'll come to the store because staff are so friendly. Just today we bought a lot and they offered to carry our stuff to the car and lent us a big metal case. A great company and to think for us it all started one year at the New Years Celebration, First Nite Providence. Monroe was selling cups of their Eggnog and we asked if we could buy some to take home. We bought 6 bottles and we're not charged a deposit fee as long as we promised to return them, we did. Munroe Dairy is a wonderful, supplemental dairy and grocery delivery service. The milk is above any store bought in freshness and quality and it's locally sourced. Other items we love are the selection of coffee and the bourbon steak tips. Some categories are limited but there is enough variety to make it worth the very reasonable delivery fee. Our delivery person is professional and polite and delivers on time with few delivery issues. We are very pleased with this service. Munroe Dairy has been around since 1881 delivering fresh Milk. We started getting it delivered recently and my wife is very happy with the "delivered to your door" service. I love the chocolate milk and we get whole milk for my growing 2 year old daughter. Prices are high and on the rise(which is the case for all produce) but you get what you pay for. I think a dollar or 2 is worth a better health choice. Plus it tastes so much better than what the supermarket offers. Do you know where your milk comes from? I do. A+ For some information on Milk read below. Milk knowledge: As i started to get more health conscious i started doing research about food. I was surprised what i found out about milk. If you look on your milk carton it'll say Pasteurized and Homogenized, which is good. Some milk companies use another method called UHT(ultra high temp) (BTW, Munroe Dairy's milk IS NOT Ultra-Pasteurized) What is Utlra-Pasteurized(UHT) milk you ask? Long story short, they heat the milk to very high tempertures. This kills all bacteria, good and bad. That's why the milk you see in th aisles in the supermarket(at room temp) doesn't go bad.(i.e. kids milk in 6-pack). Ultra-Pasteurized Milk has a shelf life of 8 months(without refrigeration) Is it bad to drink? No but it's not good either. Fact: you can't make cheese from UHT milk, what does that tell you. Everything in the milk is dead and so are it's nutrients. Munroe Dairy Milk facts: 1. MD milk is not Ultra-Pasteurized 2. MD milk is fresh. Their milk comes from the cow to your door in about 24hrs. That's what i call fresh! 3. MD cows are free range and eat "Grass", which is what cows are supposed to eat. Not corn feed! 4. MD cows sleep on water beds. You're laughing, I'm serious look it up! Cows that are not stressed produced more milk. 5. Munroe Dairy bottles their milk in glass bottles. So you never have to worry about plastic(BPA from the Plastic containers) leeching into your milk. 6. Munroe Dairy RECYCLES all their milk bottles, which saves them money and of course, is great for the environment. 7. MD cows are not injected with artificial growth hormones or antibiotics. I love milk, and milk from Munroe Dairy tastes the way milk is supposed to taste. It's creamy and smooth. The dairy uses milk from grass-fed cows in nearby Connecticut. The milk is free of pesticides and hormones, and it's delivered to me within twenty-four hours of being milked. The whole milk, in particular, is delicious. My milk is delivered to me by a milkman every Monday morning. I can place my order for Monday's delivery up until Midnight on Sunday. I am able to order other products from Munroe Dairy such as local cheese, bakery items, pasta, vegetables, and coffee. There are many other items, but my standard order usually includes whole milk, coffee, and Narragansett Creamery mozzarella. This is a mighty convenient service, and the pricing is not bad. My weekly delivery fee is $2.50 and the minimum order must be more that $10. You can try this milk before you commit to your first order. The local milkman will leave you a few samples. The samples worked for me; once I tasted the milk, I became a regular weekly customer. read more

I have been getting the Milk from the dairy for quite some time. While growing up, I thought it almost odd someone would buy milk from the store when you have the wonderful option of MD. Although, once I moved out onto my own, I did realize the products are a tad more expensive than the market. But, to me, completely worth it. I grew up with the concept of " the family milkman". MD has always been extremely friendly; and even today, knocks on the door, and if you're home, just brings the milk inside. Even living by myself, I always get a wide assortment of items with their once a week delivery. As a few people mention already, MD might not be for everyone. So, if you find yourself actually struggling to buy items every week, than yes, $2.25 to delivery one bottle of milk might be a little silly. I do recommend quite a few things though, since a lot of items they have stock are fresh, organic and local. -Milk (of course) -Eggnog (seasonal and delicious ) -Cider (seasonal and delicious ) -Bagels(sometimes I buy the low-carb, sometimes a special if it catches my eye. All are great) -Raspberry Iced Tea ( during summer I go through a couple of these a week) So, there is just a start- and as I mentioned before, there really is nothing like fresh, dairy milk. read more

After a couple of months, deliveries from Munroe turned out to be more convenient in theory than what was practical, for my life anyway. Kind of became this weekly "Holy COW! Another week has passed already? Let me scramble a weekly order together of crap I don't really need. How about some pudding?" Maybe if you've got a litter of kids guzzling milk and eating you out of house and home this would be a non-issue. Munroe's service was consistently great. I got bad fruit once and they refunded me, no problem. They also offered to make delivery accommodations to keep me as a customer, so I gotta respect that. Not all of the products are spectacular, some of them are just not good at all - like the juices from concentrate and bread on-par with Wonder Bread. read more

I've been a customer for a few months now and I'm pretty satisfied with the service. I had been reluctant to join because I didn't want to pay $50-75 for a milk box. Well, my neighbor who is a salesperson for the dairy stopped by with some free milk and explained that you don't actually need a milk box, you can just put out a cooler. We gave it a shot and it's been really great so far. Some pros: - The variety of items available is much more than milk and dairy. They have produce, meat, baked goods, soups, etc. They have great local items like Top This pizza shells and Narragansett Creamery cheese. - The order can be submitted online as late as midnight for delivery the next day. This works out great if you've just remembered that you forgot to pick something up at the grocery that week. - The milk man is super friendly and flexible. If you forget to submit your milk order the night before and you catch him, it's likely that he'll have what you need. - We've been really satisfied with the quality of product. The eggs are very fresh. I don't drink milk so I can't comment on that but my kids love it. What's better than milk in a glass bottle? A couple nit-picky cons: -The sandwich bread the offer is made with high fructose corn syrup which I try to avoid. -The truck is LOUD. If you have an early delivery (before dawn) it will wake you up. I really love the convenience. We get our milk and eggs from them regularly. Since our delivery happens to be mid-week I often add on items that I forgot to grab at the store. Or I can put together a quick meal - pizza shells, cheese and pepperoni for pizza night. I wouldn't do all my shopping this way but I imagine you could with the variety they offer. read more

I grew up with home delivery and fondly remember, as well as prefer, milk in glass bottles. When we visited friends and saw their bottled milk, we signed up. It's not as cheap as the supermarket, but in this case, you get not only what you pay for, but a little bit more as well. The milk tastes great. It's always fresh. We especially like the fresh cider and the low-carb bagels. They also sell many products made locally. Everything from chicken salad to pizza dough and other items. Service is fantastic. The one time (in over a year) that a bottle of milk tasted a bit sour, I called and got a refund for the bottle without any hassles. The milk is delicious as is the apple cider There are some items I can get for less money elsewhere, however. I know that by 10 AM on Friday, I'll have whatever I need for the week. I would prefer bread without preservatives, but the convenience and time saved more than makes up for it. First off, you need to realize that your paying for quality and convenience. If your looking for places to save money, your not going to use this service. Your going to pay more than you will at the grocery store for all of these items unless there is a sale. I primarily use the service for milk and eggs which are items that my family uses frequently. The milk is delicious and better than what you can get in stores. It also comes in those cool glass jugs! Their online ordering service is quick and easy to use, and the flat $2.25 delivery fee is astoundingly low considering they deliver to all of RI, Southern Mass, and parts of CT. My husband and I are suckers for Munroe's coffee milk - we finish the entire 1/2 gallon bottle within a few days. It's fun to browse their selection and order something new/different each week. If you can't commit to consuming all of the products in one week (I notice some people on here said it gets to be a 'burden'), then you can always cancel at any time without a fee.
