I want to specifically name Thomas, who patiently walked around the store with me, then helped me load the pool in my trailer. Murdochs is charging tax on horse bedding *Pine Shavings). This is excluded from sales tax in Colorado. Yes, shavings are considered livestock products. So they are collecting close to $5 for each 10 bags sold. I haven't purchased feed there so I can't speak to that. But they are collecting extra customer money which may even be illegal. read more

Purchased a Husqvarna zero turn lawn mower. Steering was faulty and mower ended up to be wrong choice for my terrain. Used mower about 30 minutes. Dangerous. Decided to return. Store would not take back. I would not recommend purchasing a mower from them. Go to a specialty lawn mower dealer. I wish I had. read more

We have shopped at Murdoch's in Winter Park for years. We recently found ourselves outside Silverthorne with a broken down car. We had a family of four, a dog, and it was -16 outside. We arrived at the Murdoch's frozen and unsure what to do. The team there was outstanding! They immediately brought us into the warmest part of their store and even helped us track down transportation. The store manager and one of the employees named "B" were so incredibly kind it made a terrible situation not just tolerable, but pleasant. B was also incredibly knowledgeable about dog food, which we took advantage of while we were stuck there most of the day. Great place to buy heavy-duty work clothes, feed, ammunition or equipment. Yet I avoid because every single time I go in there, I am made to feel unwelcome by the cashiers, like they would rather be playing video games than to live in the real world where you have to get a "job." Even when you check out, there is no eye contact, zero warmth. I feel like apologizing for bothering them. I actually drive to Westminster to avoid Murdoch's if there is something I need right away. Nice selection of various products but our experience was crap. We were considering buying some chicks and my husband picked one up and was SCOLDED by an employee. Our bad, we didn't see the sign. But that didn't justify the employee straight up screaming at my husband. Then that same employee FOLLOWED us throughout the entire store. Everytime we turned around he was right behind us, no matter what aisle we were on: from pet supply, to tools, to clothes, to guns..etc. Not to mention their prices! A 5lb bag or chicken feed is $7. But a 20lb bag of feed is $6 at Bomgaars! And the staff treats you better and actually answers questions! read more

I have gone to this store for 3 years. Before this store, I went to Westminster. I have horses, pigs, chickens, dogs and cats and spend what I think is lots of money there. On my last visit "Debra" was my assistant. I asked to see the charges as it looked like she had rang up some grain twice (which as happened before). Seemed like a simple request. In return I was yelled at and told I was a "fing btch." I dealt with the assistant manager to finish my transaction as Debra REfused to even bag my purchase. I called the corporate office. Corporate was too busy to call back and had the manager call me. Manger was nice, but apparently "Debra" is a good employee. $500 or so a month might not seem l like a lot of money to a large store, but my business will now go elsewhere and "Debra" can continue to verbally abuse customers. read more

THIS IS NOT THE PLACE TO BUY FIREARMS IN LONGMONT!!!! The two people working behind the counter in the gun section have quite a bit of an attitude from the get go. They treated me like i didn't know anything about guns and any attempt to lighten up their down mood with conversation was quickly shut down. They refused to sell me a long rifle because i had an ID from Missouri (which it's definitely not illegal to buy a gun outside of the state you live in.) I usually use Amazon to order my ranch wear but was happy to find Murdoch's. I made several purchases over a week or two. The first issue is the time between when they take your money and when they ship. After six days and still no shipping notice I called and they said it had not shipped, they didn't know when it would ship and even though it was in stock when I paid for it, it might go out of stock before they shipped it. Also their shipping is super slow once it gets in the mail. I was fed up and canceled my order on the phone (that did not take 6 days, the lady on the phone did that in a about 3 seconds). Overall I was left not in the happiest of moods. I then went to Cavenders and reordered everything (2 Carhartt vests and 4 shirts) and was happy to have that ship on the same day and get them in just a few days, very much unlike Murdoch's. Murdoch's is like the Target of ranch stores- it has a little bit of everything, including more clothing than you might expect, and prices aren't the very lowest but aren't extravagant, either. My uncle grumbles that it's a clothing store with a ranching aisle, but it's not quite that bad. Sometimes their selection is a bit limited, like they don't always have the standard irrigation parts I need even though they technically have an irrigation aisle. Employee knowledge can be hit or miss but there are a few experienced hands in the store at least. If I'm doing a farm project I'll get the bulk of supplies elsewhere, but I'm grateful to have Murdoch's nearby for the random little things we'll inevitably need mid-project. read more

Where we go for manure forks, gates, leather boot strings, horse stuff, gates, you name it. Pretty good pet supplies as well. Staff are friendly, curteous and will stop whatever they are doing to help which I really appreciate. You don't get that at the big orange box store. I Have shopped at the Longmont store for years. They recently added guns and ammo to their inventory. The new sporting goods manager Chris is a piece of work, rude and not customer friendly at all. Won't spend another dime here as long as he is there. Hope they get a clue. Great place for pet supplies. We get our dog food here because quite honestly it I'd a lot cheaper. They also have a great rewards program, buy 12 bags, and get 1 free. The food we get is on sale occasionally which also makes it much more affordable. What i didn't realize about the store is they have a lot of other items including a section for baby toys. Staff are always friendly. Get there early, most nights they close at 7! read more

After getting 1 of the 50 permits for chickens in Longmont, I knew I needed supplies, & chicks. After looking on backyardchickens.com I found some info on what I needed, & found Murdoch's. The store was huge, with a great selection of everything from barbed wire, coops, to dog & any furry woodland creature food, to carhart jeans, and cowboy boots. The chicks were generic breeds so I passed on them, but grabbed heat lamp, feeders etc here, still no unmedicated chicken starter :( . Overall service was good, prices seemed fair, but honestly I only explored about a 1/4 of the store. read more

I like the selection of things they have in here my only issue is they seem to be a little on the pricey side compared to other places for the same items. Great place! Wide selection of items... Everything from hay to dog food to cowboy hats to tools. And very friendly staff! On Saturdays VIP PetCare visits so you can bring your pet in to get their vaccines. Easy to drop in and do on the weekends. My dog absolutely loved them! They were just a great group of people, and so good at their jobs - my dog barely noticed she was getting a vaccine she was so at home with them :) read more

I hate to edit this review but I'm super disappointed. This was a 5 star review when Rob ran the sporting goods section. We went recently had a bad buying experience under their new management. The products that are sold are of not doubt, high quality. However, no matter with what brand, there are quality hicups. Direct from Murdoch's website, "At Murdoch's we take pride in the quality of products we sell. We take even more pride in ensuring that you are a happy Murdoch's customer, who is satisfied with each and every purchase. If you don't like what you purchased, or it just doesn't work out, we will provide a refund or exchange the item". Quite frankly, this sounds good reading, but as soon as you show up in the store with an issue, your told that it will be sent for warrantee. Usually this isn't an issue, but sometimes it is. Here is an example I find myself in. Not quite a year ago I bought a Quincy compressor. They have been in the business for a long time and seem to offer high quality products. I have only used the unit twice, for a total of about an hour. The pressure switch on the unit isn't working properly...Defective. I have the receipt from original purchase, and NEEDED it the next day or my business and about 20 of my customers. After spending 10 mins tracking someone down, im told that it will be sent in for warrantee repair. Normally this would be fine as it sits in my basement for 11 months of the year, but this is the time I need it, but as I said I needed it the next day, not 2 weeks from now. Also on there website, they say that they stand behind there products that they sell. Now I know that is a lot to ask. Take my broken unit, and send me off with a new one, However I work in the retail market at a orange big box store and if the roles were reversed, there would be no question and do whatever we could to keep the shopper happy. This is not the customer service that the website wishes to make people think. In addition, this is only an example, as I have had this problem with my new Stihl chain saw that wouldn't start and leaked fuel. In conclusion, the store doesn't have the desire to make things right, nor do they stand behind the products that they sell, and customer service isn't high on the priority list. as read more

Great variety of western wear and rural supplies. Their dog food selection is only rivaled by specialty pet stores like Petco. And the prices are very competitive. I've found their Iams brand dog food to be a few dollars cheaper than Petco or Petsmart. The staff is always very friendly and helpful. read more

I really love Murdochs. My family has 5 horses, 2 dogs, and over 30 chickens and we go here every two weeks. I love the products they have for my horses and they are great quality!! I haven't had a halter, lead rope, bridle, or even brush break! I love the clothes and jewelry too. Ive boughten stuff from here maybe 1,000 times and I use most of the horse stuff for showing my horses! The quality is just wonderful and I'm very happy with it. I've walked around this store many times because I love it so much and the staff practically know us by name. Speaking of the staff, they are so friendly and like another review said will drop whatever their doing and help you with something. They are helpful and knowledgeable and I love that! I said we have a lot of chickens and sometimes it can be hard to feed them with having so many. Prices are good on feed for them but sometimes they can be out of stock of stuff we need for the chickens. Horse grain can be a little pricey but that doesn't really matter. I recommend anyone to go here and it's great for holiday shopping!!! read more
