I've always gone to the other Murillo's in town... not for any other reason but convenience. Last Monday, it was closed but saw this location was open. It may be our new go to! The food was excellent and fast- but the service was top notch. I wish I got his name, but a younger man (early 20s?) helped us and he was so friendly and welcoming. He even had great suggestions that some of the group ordered exactly how he suggested and LOVED it. There was 5 of us for lunch- everyone had a great time and it was affordable too! Murillo's is one of my favorite Mexican food spots in Vacaville, and it's a place I keep coming back to. The salsa and chips are a standout--especially their salsa, which is unique in the best way. It's warm and almost soup-like, unlike anything you usually get, and it really works. The guacamole is consistently good, and I'm a big fan of their tostadas. Honestly, everything I've tried has been tasty and satisfying. I've taken my family here many times, and the service has always been prompt, friendly, and helpful. Went here with coworkers on a Wednesday night. I was told this was the original location, and they have a separate dining versus bar area. Parking was a bit tricky next to so many other businesses. All the tables were filled on this night, and I think it was also seniors night. The place definitely felt like a local diner/restaurant. Booths, older furniture, small bathroom. The staff were pretty nice and didn't give us any trouble for sitting all the way to closing and being the last table out. The food was decent, with pretty filling portions. But it wasn't something I'd rave about. It was also a bit pricey for the fajita plate I got, when I've been to other places in the area and have gotten more for less money, and served on a sizzling plate too. However, the refillable chips and salsa, with separate bowls for normal vs. spicy salsa, was nice. You can also pay with your phone by using a QR code on your receipt (which they also let us split 3 ways based on item), but can also pay cash. Overall I can see how it's appealing to local diners who are used to something familiar, but may not appeal to those looking for something a bit more than just familiar. read more

Food was OK. I took my granddaughters here after school. There was a ICE protest going on across the street. I was trying to explain civil disobedience and protests. Some loud older people came in yelling about THE PROTESTERS SHOULD "GO TO A PLAY GROUND". The employee/ owner said every week i'm i'm asked how I feel owning a mexican restaurant having the protesters out there, I feel like they take up to many of my parking spots. It's a large parking lot.There were plenty of spots. Wow. I think customers should be able to eat in peace without having it effect our dining. It wasn't pleasant. read more

We have been coming to this restaurant for ever but tonight was really bad. I had a chicken enchilada and the sauce had no flavor it was brown and like water. I love the sauce for the chips and again no flavor. The beans we so watered down and again no flavor. The rice was dry no taste at all. The waitress offered to remake our dinner and brought out the enchilada sauce they recently made to see if that was better no difference. She did say they have new cooks. My husband had the mini paco his favorite it had a strange taste not good. So sad read more

We have out-of-town guests. We wanted to meet our other friend who lives in Sacramento. Rather driving from the East Bay to Sacramento, we decided to meet half way. Hence, we met for dinner in Vacaville. We ate at Murillo's Mexican Restaurant. FOOD They gave us chips after we sat on to our table. I ordered the combo special, the Enchilada plate. My friends ordered the Paco Special, Shrimp Fajita, and Chicken Chimichanga. We enjoyed each of our orders. SERVICE Our waiter gave us an excellent service. I asked her to take a picture of us. She did. She seemed nice; she smiled throughout the night whenever she came to our table. AMBIENCE Though it was past 7pm, there was still a lot of people. Hello, I consider myself a private Mexican Restaurant food critic with many years of experience. As I walked in to sit in a booth, I noticed that there was not a single Mexican person sitting or eating in the restaurant. I already knew the food wouldn't be good. I ordered the 4 soft tacos plate with carne asada & whole beans. When my meal arrived, the food looked good, but there was one ingredient missing that ALL Mexican restaurants carry, and that's CILANTRO! I asked for cilantro on the side, and the server said they didn't serve cilantro at all, and she couldn't tell me WHY they didn't serve it. Well, I didn't buy it, and it's degrading not to serve cilantro in a Mexican restaurant. They should change the name from Murillos to Barney's! read more

We ordered $110 worth of food, a few burritos and some tacos...we got about $10 worth of meat between the 3 burritos and 8 tacos, asada was unseasoned, no pico on the tacos, meat almost didn't exist, a small spoon of rice. I love Murillo's but stoped ordering from this location because of the service. My Togo order was wrong every single time I would come. One server seemed to be upset with me for asking for my order to be corrected as ordered and would remind me every time I came. So I go to the other now on east monte vista they never get my order wrong and are more generous with the chips and salsa Togo. read more

A family favorite. We have been dining at Murillo's since 1979 (when we lived in Vacaville) and still make the trek from wherever we are currently living to enjoy their food. The original location was more like a converted small house on Alamo drive... to the much larger restaurant near the Nut Tree. Our favorite menu item is still the chicken avocado tostada ... no other Mexican restaurant comes close. We've ordered it for over 40 years ...at the old location, new location...and even their newest place in Dixon. The ambiance and service is always good too. Food arrives quickly and is hot and amazing. I've read mixed reviews about their salsa over the years (hot and mild are both served side by side and the mild is served warm). We happen to love it... no we crave it. It is unique to Murillo's and another reason we make the trek. We totally recommend this restaurant! read more

Worst visit to Murillo's in 40 years....Hostess attempted to seat us at a dirty table (cheese, lettuce, still there from the previous diners), only three tables were occupied so one would think she could pick a clean one....After we were seated she quickly left, no offer of "what would you like to drink"......Nerver received napkins or silverware.....Ordered Nachos from our waitress and after waiting 17 minutes we walked out.....Three employees in the kitchen were observed having a wonderful social conversation......When we left only two tables were occupied....AVOID THE DIXON location......Murillos seems to have over expanded and lacks the personnel and management that were the hallmarks of a fine restaurant in Vacaville.....In summary ....Service poor to nonexistent.....Ambiance fair.......Food nonexistent it never arrived read more

We ate here Saturday.The ambiance is nice but somewhat generic. Service was good and fast. The food was not so good. Starting with dry bland chips, we were given both mild and hot salsa, the mild tasted like straight tomato sauce, the hot was very hot! My taco salad was bland, bland beans, bland boiled chicken, bland pico, and lettuce..all bland! Usually, there is a layering of spices,salt, and flavorings in each ingredient. Every time I go in there it smells like Clorox it's overwhelming I'm not sure where the odor is coming from. It's too bad because this little restaurant had a great following. I grew up in Vacaville. My 1st Mexican food was Murillo's. Used to eat there a lot. I haven't lived there now for over 40 years but when I would go back to visit, I'd make it a point to have at least 1 meal at Murillo's. Well, I did just that yesterday. It was the biggest disappointment in restaurant dining I've had in a long time! I ordered Chili Relleno combination. Not only did it come out in literally 1 minute, it looked like a Swanson TV dinner! Every item on the plate was clearly pre-prepared--as in factory-made and nuked on the spot. Also, there was no sauce on the relleno. My wife ordered Menudo. Tasted exactly like the canned menudo she buys in the grocery store. What happened to the high-quality, delicious Mexican food of my youth? I don't know if Murillo's has sold to someone who takes no pride in serving quality food or if it is just the current generation of family owners who are just cutting corners to a quick and easy buck but this is NOT the Murillo's it once was. A solid A-OK, like the astronauts would say. Great menu, super portions, flavors that keep you shoveling and a casual atmosphere where you can chat, drink and eat in peace. Met and old friend, now living in Vacaville, that I had not seen for more than 30 years. This was his choice for lunch. It was a good one. Small and practical, the location has been in business since 1970 and it is popular for good reason. Give their menu a scan. Very complete with traditional Mexican dishes and some Americanized versions. Flavor dominates. We both had his favorite, Paco's Special. They have a mini-Paco which we had and it was plenty. I challenge you to take on a full Paco's Special. The mini was huge. Full of slow-cooked chili verde, which are pork chunks simmered in a green sauce. Beans were added along with cheese, tomatoes, onions and guac. OMG...it was so good. Senior citizen discount and on Tuesdays there is a separate menu for seniors. Daily specials, breakfasts and alcohol is available. I would be a regular if we lived anywhere close. Come, eat, enjoy...and to heck with your diet. read more

Been going to downtown location for years. It was obvious Danny was not there. Rude service from time we walked in at 7:15 pm. "Last one, turn off the sign," as we walked in. The young gal who served us was eating chips at front counter. (Dropped my dinner too so had to remake it.) Felt rushed from moment we sat down. Older serve came later to get our money (cash) "she needs to go home and close out the drawer. She made a point to reconfirm with us "we are already closed." There were 3-4 other tables there when we arrived and another table still occupied after closing time. As we left, the older server was busy on her phone. "Have a nice evening." (With attitude to us). If Frances, who we have know for years, was there she would have visited with us like in the past. In fact, Danny has as well.
