My swimming pool over the last few months was losing water. We found Murphy pools & spas on Yelp. We contacted them for a repair estimate. He said that he would investigate & perform leak tests and pressure tests of all related piping and equipment, he found the location of the leak which was a tree root that had cracked one of my pipes underground. He explained everything in detail what needed to be done after digging & exposing all piping then making the proper repairs with follow up testing to make sure it was working perfectly. The Family and I decided at the beginning of the year to have a pool installed at our home. We moved to the AV Jan 2021 and was fortunate to buy a house during these challenging times with a decent sized backyard to build a pool. I called around in Feb and talked with several companies about pool construction, estimated costs and timelines. In August, I finally decided to build so it would be ready by Spring 2022. I went with Murphy's Pools because they had the better availability and pricing. Brian Murphy contracts and quality checks all of the major work (excavation, rebar, tiling, coping and plaster) but he personally does quite a bit (PVC, pool equipment, clean-up, electrical, etc...) I have no complaints of his or any of his contractor's work, also they ensured the area was cleaned up following every job. Brian is a stand-up guy and completely transparent and when on-site, will explain everything. He also had a guy that did secondary gates for me to pass inspection. Also, Brian was willing to make some last minute design changes/add-ons like a plantar and stacked stone veneers and auto-fill. He also gave me good advice on the type of landscaping I should do so it won't compromise the pool. It is obvious Brian has been doing this for quite a while. Claudia Murphy worked with me on the scheduling, tiling and brick. She took her time to bring materials out to me so I can get a visual on what I wanted and how it would look all put together. Since I wanted veneers, she told me spray it with water so I can get a visual of how it looks wet and dry...something I would've never thought about. She was very nice and courteous with me throughout the entire process. Every time I called the office, she immediately passed my message to Brian. 2-3 months after my pool completion, I couldn't recall how to do something. Brian responded immediately on a Sunday via email and even stopped by as well. So overall, Murhpy's Pools and Spas did a wonderful job. We love our pool and even though it is still cold, we are using/enjoying it. ****Everything below are just things to think about**** This is my very first time owning a pool. The following things are something that you should consider if you plan on building a pool and Brian will go over it with you...but figure I put this out there. ***1. Find a design on the internet of other pools to get an idea of what you want. Its best to bring that up front to your design process. 2. The size and grading in the backyard will ultimately drive your design. For example, I wanted the spa closer to my patio but it didn't seem right because my backyard is higher closer to the rear back wall and it slopes down. The spa seemed more fitting in a higher point of the backyard. 3. This is a major construction and your backyard is going to be dusty throughout the entire process. 4. Parking will be limited in front of your house throughout the process. ***5. You need to water the Gunite 4-5 times day for 14 days to help with the curing process...difficult if you're working full-time or travel. ***6. Supply is limited during these COVID times, so I was very limited in the bull nose brick style and tile...I had to settle but it came out great. In-fact, I wanted a totally different style of coping but that was a change that was too late to do. Be sure of what you want at the start of the process. ***7. You need a pool start-up contract. This requires 7 days of cleaning and chemicals and twice a week for 8 weeks. After that, it can decrease to once a week cleaning. They need to come out immediately after the pool is filled and pumps are turned on. 8. Take pics of all your piping so you know where not to dig in the future. 9. You have to fill-up your pool manually which requires you to monitor it. You don't want to overfill it nor can you stop it mid-way. I set alarms throughout the night to wake me up so I can check it. It took about 18 hours to fill. read more

Please don't blame me because you dropped the ball. It's not my job to follow up with you when you said you would get back to me and you're the one bidding on the job. Your policy recently changing is irrelevant because you didn't tell us anything... free or $200 would have made little difference to us. I didn't "take the time to hurt your business"... you hurt your own business by not doing what you said you would do. I simply took the time to share with people, my experience with you, because it is information that I would want to know before investing tens of thousands of dollars on a pool. But it appears that you are still missing the point. You could have done a great job... you can be the best contractor, you can be honest, you can be all that you say you are... but none of that matters if you don't get back to the customer with the estimate. Thanks for pointing out that we are responsible for our pool for 10 years, but that doesn't scare us. We researched before doing it, and we are perfectly fine with the responsibility. We're not going anywhere, and will leave this investment to our kids. Sir, it doesn't matter how legitimate you are or what you stand behind if you disappear before you even get the job. Like I mentioned to you when you privately messaged me... you would have been better off simply admitting that you dropped the ball and apologizing, rather than blaming me and lying in the chat by saying that you did give me a price.... Saying you don't believe that I save the amount of money I did, telling me to look at my notes, wondering why I never contacted you back, telling me you told me the 3-D design cost extra... That is a lie. You did not. Accept responsibility, and move on. Folks... NONE of the other contracts I had come out for an estimate gave me one on the spot... if anyone tells you exactly what your pool will cost on the spot... trust me, it's gonna cost more than that. read more

We hired Brian to start our pool project. We talked about completion dates and he verbally told us 7/13 to what I thought ok maybe the first week of August because of delays. On his contract he wrote completion date 8/25. We are now at 8/26 and still waiting on the pool to be done. Brian needs to work on his communication skills. For one I have pets that need to be put away if him or his crew where coming to work. He never once rung the door bell to inform us he was there. He will not tell us when anything was going to happen. Once my husband asked him when where his guys coming since they failed to show up on the day he told us,and he answered very rude stating he did't know that he was only aware of his own personal schedule. I think as a contractor you should keep your customers informed of every step of the way. His wife is really nice. I had dirt and dead grass in my backyard for 3 months. After he told us yes I'm very clean I pick up as I go. Not the case! My friend had schedule an estimate with him and cancelled after she heard of my story. Now to think we wont even be able to enjoy our pool for Labor day weekend makes me very upset. My girls have been very anxiously waiting for the pool to be done. He leaves empty bottles of whatever drinks he has during work laying around in my back yard. One Day I came home and his tools where all laying on the grass still connected to the electricity. Very irresponsible to leave heavy duty tools laying around. Also the cement around our pool was supposed to start from our planter 3 feet to the copping of the pool. Well he decided to make the pool way too far from the planter and now we have a gap of dirt of about 6"!!! Can you believe he could not add this 6" to the concrete. " because on the contract he wrote 3 feet around the pool" Small things like this made our experience stressful. We had to compromise on the Copping because he order the wrong size and our pool would have look ridiculous if we allowed him to install the copping around our Jacuzzi, so we decided to be understanding and change our design. But he could not compromise and give us the concrete around the pool how we had wanted and discussed with him?! After I posted my review he came to my house to talk to me about it and wanted me to change my review. I told him nothing I said was not true and he told me that he did not understand why I needed an adult at home when they where working and my Two daughters where home alone. " it's peace of mind for me " in case of an emergency while building there is an adult at home. The vacuum cleaner was included in the price and written in contract he kept asking if we wanted to buy one from him. We had to remind him it was included on the contract. Even on the day he came to collect the last payment he was still questioning the vacuum. It took 4 inspections to pass our last inspection not because of anything we did wrong in our part everything passed it was his construction that did not pass. At the end he talked to the inspector to sign it off. I'm not sure what the deal was but it happened. We finally got our paper work 9/24/2020 and today he still came and did some Work in our pool. I don't recommend this contractor to no one. read more

Brian created a desert oasis in our backyard. He and his workers completed our entire yard, pool, spa, concrete and grass. He also added lighting and plants. It is truly beautiful. The pool lights are multicolored and can be controlled from the comfort of my own home. There was an issue with getting the Omnilogic system set up, but Brian worked with me to help it get figured out and contacted his rep several times until it was all working properly. Brian also offered me options like pebble sheen drains that did cost extra, but was worth the extra money. He also offered me wifi sprinklers which actually have been great as I can turn on or on my sprinklers from a distance and it tracks wind and rain so it was a great upgrade. The backyard lights that he added are great and very bright which is what I wanted to light up my yard. The best part about the lights are that they are wired so need to do worry them running out of battery or working intermittently. They are also automatic and turn on at sundown. Brian was a really good communicator via email. It was helpful to get any questions or concerned answered when needed. Brian also is a very honest man which helps with trust building. I had Brian come and clean the filter last year and he did a great job. He also replaced the motor which was not working properly. This year, 2016, I called again and his wife said they'd get right back to me. Surprisingly, she remembered who I was and even named my occupation. A few days later his wife called me and made an appointment for the following Thursday. It was raining the day he was scheduled and I received a call to reschedule the following week. We are now in week three of my original contact. It was windy on that Thursday and Brian called to reschedule for that Saturday. I said no problem. Saturday came and went, no phone call, no Brian. Today, Monday, I attempted to call and could only leave a message. Nice guy, but perhaps has taken on too much and should be realistic with his customers on what he can or cannot accomplish. I'll be calling someone else. Unfortunately, you may want to avoid doing business unless you have plenty of time to waste. UPDATE : Brian contacted me through Yelp and asked why I gave him one star. He said he did work for free, but looking over the invoice that does not seem the case. My concern is NOT Brian's work, but the customer service which was subpar. I did change him to two stars, but again, I am a customer and deserve contact, especially when you say you'll be somewhere. I waited all Saturday for you: no phone call all day or any days thereafter.
