So update on Murphys: 1) Murphy's stayed open on Friday night during the blizzard when everything else in Providence seemed to shut down. Mad props for that. 2) We've made a serious dent in their menu, and found it's nearly impossible to find a meal that resembles something healthy. That said, here are some of my recommendations: French dip - YES! The bread isn't the best quality, but this sandwich has a ton of flavor. Pickles - YES! They are not the pickles you expect from barrels or even from jars, but when you're hungry, heck yea! Go for them! French fries - These fries are clearly frozen. But they are addicting. You can't have just one. Burgers - They ooze with fat, but they are so darn flavorful! Rueben - Get it on marble bread. Sadly, not the best Rueben I've had, but still very good. Onion rings - They are excellent, but they are rich. You can only have 1-2 before being done with them. I would strongly suggest you get these to share. Fish and chips - My least favorite dish so far. The fish is very deep fried and the white skin was still left on when I had it on Friday. Not the best, ladies and gentleman. Stick with the sandwiches and skins. 3) This place can go from empty to hopping in minutes, especially after a PC or Bruins game. 4) When there's nothing on TV, the bartender turns on Netflix, at which point you are subject to whatever banal show s/he decides to put on. We had to endure the Dave Chappelle Show and It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia on Friday night. So make sure you go when some sporting event is on TV. read more

Ahhh Murphy's...for years now this place has been a bar I find myself popping into time and time again for a quick bite to eat, or a cold beer or two on draft. What I've always liked about this bar is that they know how to make some delicious and good sized deli style sandwiches and also have a good selection of different beers on draft (at very reasonable prices). I've come to notice over the years that service can definitely be on the slower side here but the servers themselves are usually always friendly no matter how hectic the place might be. That is the other thing to know about Murphy's...if you come here before or after a PC basketball game (or P-Bruins game), be prepared for a wait or to squeeze in near the bar because this place gets packed really quickly. I really would rate my review more 3.5 stars then just a 3 (but not quite a 4). Good food, good beer and decent enough service. They also recently renovated the place and while I do miss the old school deli and decor, I apprecaite and respect the fact that they wanted to spruce the place up and I like the new upscale Irish pub feel. I LOVE Murphy's!! BEST CHEAP WINGS. During games and All Day Sunday 25 cent wings! The buffalo are good, and I just discovered the garlic, they are delicious. The reubens there are awesome, best you'll find in the area. They have pretty cheap beer, nice bartenders and keno. They have karaoke on tuesdays, I love it awesome crowd! I was a little skeptical the first time I walked by this place, but then one of the valets at my hotel told me that this is where all the locals go. So, I decided to try it out! What a GREAT find. They have some great pub food and amazing deals. If you go when sports are on, they have a crazy deal on wings which are very meaty and have a very tasty wing sauce on them. If you go any other night or day, you have to try the Rueben! One of the BEST I've had! The wait staffi s very friendly and they will remember you the next time you stop on by. Murphy's is a perfectly acceptable pub. It's juxtaposed between being a sit-down restaurant and a tavern, and there's a clear difference in their clientele that reflects that. It can be a bit confusing. However, the bartenders and managers are among the best in the city--this is where they've got the competition beat! If only the food was better. It's underwhelming, but Murphy's isn't going for five-star cuisine. It's good. It's three star food at a good price. I'd like more gluten-free options, but knowing that my allergy is my problem I don't hold it against them. read more

Free parking can be tough to find but there are many parking garages around $10 nearby. This place has average food, got the fish tacos and Reuben. Had a lot of the basic beers on tap but did have a few specialty ones as well. Had a groupon which is what brought me to this bar. The best part was the unlimited homemade pickles but otherwise there isn't much to say, food was decent, this place delivers what you would expect from a bar. read more

I haven't eaten in a few years but remembered that they did a whole renovation practically overnight and added new items to their menu. I have the pastrami burger, I thought it was delicious, their homemade pickles are still great and I didn't want to keep ordering their famous corned beef Rueben. The cheese was gooey goodness, the brioche bun toasted and yummy. I will definitely try the other new items that are marked with a red star. The décor is darker, more rustic irish theme and framing the doors to be just a large window a much better floor layout. The service was great as always. read more

***UPDATE*** I received a nice reply to my original review from the owner and feel compelled to respond. I apparently fell down and hit my head because I know for a fact that I've ordered and enjoyed their macaroni salad inside of the five-year window he said they stopped serving it. In fact, when I was there last week to pick up my most recent order and I complained to the employee who served me, he informed me that they stopped making macaroni salad about a year or so ago so I'm not sure why the owner says they haven't made it for five years. I've only been back from Florida for four years and ordered macaroni salad at Murphy's several times since returning on 8/1/16 to Rhode Island. And just to be clear, I wouldn't want the owner or anyone else to be under the false impression that I claim to be a very regular customer of Murphy's over the last 30+ years, just that I have been patronizing the business for that long from time to time although I was very regular customer in the late 80s and early 90s when I worked downtown. But the owner has graciously offered to make me a single serving of macaroni salad if I give them a heads up that I'm coming in to order food and I think that's very kind of him. It's certainly not something I expected and I think that's very generous of him to make the offer. I have no doubt I will take him up on that the next time I plan on heading there for lunch. I also increased the rating another starbecause of his reply and offer. The food there is definitely delicious and I recommend everybody who hasn't given it a try to get in there and find out for yourself just how good the food truly is. Came here in the afternoon of the Providence College graduation. Lee were looking for a little snack before an early dinner. Both my sister and I ordered bloody Mary's. They were a little heavy on the horseradish but all in all pretty good. All three of us ordered stuffed quahogs which were PERFECT. I ordered French onion soup. It was ok but lacking in flavor. With some time to kill before graduation ended we also put in an order for Reuben egg rolls which I also thoroughly enjoyed. The menu was extensive and had a ton of things I wanted to try. This was a nice little find on a Sunday afternoon. Little did we know that wings when the Boston Red Sox are playing are half price and that was music to my wallet. I had the regular buffalo wings and Murphy's wings sauce is the best I have had in awhile. The waitress we had was very attentive and since we were looking for things to do she spent some time with us and gave us some tips on what to do while we were in providence. I have been to Murphy's more than once but hadn't been in a while, until today. I went on a lunch break at noontime and was able to get a seat right away. Unfortunately, the food did not come out until after 1pm. My friend ordered wings, which were good but cold. I ordered a pastrami turkey sandwich which was also good. My friend pointed out some commotion behind us, which was customers watching a mouse walking near the wall. This was surprising and disappointing When we got our food I asked for the check. The waitress did not bring it. When she returned I asked again, and again, she did not bring the check. It wasn't until she came back for a third time that she remembered and went to get it. If you like Rubens then you have to stop at Murphy's. They give you a bottle of russian dressing to go with your sandwiches too! The Corned Beef and Pastrami combo is out of this world. Don't get too fancy, just get it on rye with russian and a pickle and fries. So good. Stay away from the macaroni salad, not because it is bad, but because as a side, it is tiny. Only complaint is that it can get very packed and they tend to be light on waitstaff. Had to wait for a while a few times. Still, the sandwiches are out of this world. read more

Pretty run of the mill pub atmosphere. Place was a little messy and unkempt. There was a good amount of trash on the floors and bev naps on bare tables which is a peeve of mine, but nothing too over the top. The service had its ups and downs, but was underwhelming. When we only got one beer and declined their craft taps for something simpler, guiness and smithwicks, she seemed perturbed. Everyone was impressed with the choices and raved about their food. It took 40 min to get our appetizers, which was better than the main course, and that was only after we went and asked the guy where they were. What a disappointment. Came on a late weekend morning. Service was slow, despite not being crowded. Our simple food order of a hot sandwich and a bagel took more than a half hour. Server not to be seen for at least 15 minutes. When it arrived, everything was cold except the accompanying potatoes. Bagel was burnt on the edges. Even if the food had arrived at the appropriate temperature and within a reasonable amount of time, it still would not have earned another visit. read more
