We came to this restaurant in the pretty little town of Pawtuxent last evening on the recommendation of people who said that O'Rourkes had one of the best and most generous lobster rolls in the state. The reality was far from that. While the flavor was decent, the roll was mostly diced claw meat, no big chunks of lobster, and on what was essentially a New England hot-dog roll. A woman at the table next to me asked how I liked the sandwich, and then explained that the restaurant was under new management and that the lobster rolls were nothing like what they were under the previous management. Service was very good, but the meal I was looking forward to was disappointingly mediocre for a $30 sandwich. Don't waste your money on it. read more

I live close by and ride bikes thru the village with my wife. We always go to O'Rourkes and get lobster rolls. They came on a torpedo roll and stuffed with chucks of lobster over flowing onto our plate. We went there today for first time of new township and were quite disappointed. The roll is now a hot dog roll. The lobster was minced and certainly overpriced for the quality. I hope the new owners figure it out. I generally don't write a lot of restaurant reviews, but I felt compelled to write about O'rourkes. O'rourkes has been my go to place for lunch on a sunny day, out with friends at night, and of course St. Patrick's day. The staff is great (still is) everyone knows your name. It's a very local bar, filled with regulars and over the years, I've rarely been disappointed with the food. My favourite is tuna salad. I'm picky as all get out and O'rourkes has always been one of the few places where I'll ordered it - nearly every time. I know they were sold recently and hadn't been in since the first week or so, but it was beautiful out yesterday so what a day to go for lunch. Sadly I was very disappointed. The inside itself is getting a long needed facelift - the new owner (who owns many restaurants in the State and is married to an interior decorator) has installed some booths instead of the high tops and wallpapered. All the decorations are currently down and there are no window treatments. I also hear the kitchen is getting a facelift. Again, long needed but 2 weeks before Gaspee Days? Not the best timing here (and yes the new owner was 'warned' about the chaos that is Gaspee Days). I went inside and was greeted by the usual staff and sat at the bar. Noticeably EMPTY!!! The locals were no where to be seen! There's always someone you know to chat with, but no one inside except myself and only a couple of tables outside. That right there should have been the heads up for me. I ordered my usual tuna. Prices have gone WAY up - not just a couple of dollars either. My sandwich came and again, tuna is my go to. It was DRIPPING with mayo! To the point where I didn't even finish it. They aren't using the same recipe (I heard JK, their long-time kitchen person is out right now, but recipes are recipes). It was just tuna and probably an equal amount of mayo. I worked in food service well over 30 years - they are just 'stretching' the tuna to use less and fill it with the mayo. I don't believe there were any other ingredients, like any kind of spice or chopped celery. I was so disappointed that I doubt I'd go back - my regular dining place has now dropped off my list. My bill was ~$15.00 for just my sandwich (it came with lettuce, tomato and choice of side, I had onion rings, which were good). The only plus to go back is, say, Gaspee Days hangout and to see the staff, but the food? No thanks. read more

The service was amazing. I'm a big foodie. I've lived in four different states and I've traveled all over the place. I love French onion soups and I definitely came here for that and it was the best. Went here Saturday night to meet friends eat a chill dinner and listen to live music ! We got a blt , fish tacos , chicken tenders & grill cheese and drinks ! Food is simple and excellent ! Long time patron since they opened. Spent many hours there. Lots of friends made. New owners came in and destroyed an iconic place for people to eat , meet and have fun. Had a baby shower there last saturday we were told upstairs held 50 people we only had 43 not enough table or chairs set up when we told manager she had barstools brought up food was cold the the manager came up once and never asked how things were going she is very unfriendly the bartender amy was phenomenal she was doing everything from bartending to clearing up the tables we were supposd to have a juice bar but the guests had to go to bar to get the juice the new owners need to take a look at how things are being run the drinks are ver expensive one of the guests had to sit at the bar with her 4 month old because there was no room at a table for her its pretty sad when you are paying 22 dollars a person for brunch and you are cleaning up i would not recommend breffnays/ orourkes for a party read more

I want to love it because of the location and past experience by previous owners but poor experience with every visit. Undercooked chicken not just once. Under new management... couldn't be going worse. The food is awful. The vibe in the place is negative. Domestic beer is $6 now! They have made the flow of the place worse than it was but putting in money grab booths that block isles and reduces socializing. The new "manager" is unfriendly, and miserable, and visibly treats the staff poorly. (I feel sorry for them) She is alienating the regulars and seems to care less. They are trying to make a local village bar into an Applebees, it's destined to fail. They took the vibe of a decent small town Irish bar and are destroying it. read more

have been here many times since I moved in the area. tonight was horrible food and service!! Ordered spinach and artichoke dip it came out cold sent it back and it came back luke warm my daughter ordered a steak sandwich that was just about inedible chunks of steak that resembled Hamburg my granddaughter ordered a grilled cheese that was made with mini American bread and I ordered a wedge salad that had wilted lettuce!!! Our waitress was very unattentive and I had to ask her for extra napkins and go inside to hand her the check after I had to go inside to get the check because it was raining outside where we sat!!! Unfortunately I would have to rate the food and the service a complete zero!!! Been there before many times never would have had to give this review!!! TO BEGIN--- Three years ago I invited my brother, who was visiting from his longtime home in Colorado, to the Pub for a meal. Having grown up on the East Coast and eaten lobster in locations all over the Eastern seaboard (he's knowledgeable & extremely picky about seafood) he ordered the lobster roll & .... then declared it was "THE BEST " he had ever had !!! Throughout the years, my family, friends and I had always chosen other items off the menu; famous Prime Rib, lean corned beef Reubens, chowder and stuffed clams, Irish Nacos, village hippie sandwich, Shepherds pie- etc. Simply delicious "PUB FOOD". Though we hadn't dined here in a long while, we were warmly welcomed last night by management - thanks AMY !!! Remembering my brother's past recommendation, my guest and I decided to try the lobster roll. WOW WOW WOW!!! It indeed is (still) the best! Sweet, tender tail and claw meat were dressed lightly w Hellman's Mayo (?!) and had a delightful crunch & freshness from chopped celery. GENEROUSLY heaped into a crusty torpedo roll with just the simplest bed of lettuce. Choice of fries and small side of coleslaw ( MORE PLEASE ) added to the delightful meal. It was not an inexpensive meal ... as you know LOBSTER Is outrageously expensive $$$ right now. But, truly worth every penny - as "ohhhh's & ahhhh's" we're repeated out loud with every tasty morsel and bite! In fact... the table next to us was so taken by our enthusiasm, that they ordered the lobster roll also, in addition to the crisply battered tender rings of RI Calamari, which they replied were fabulous!! Even better, a shout out to our server NICOLE - attentive, polite and speedy ! The evening setting was lovely as many folks enjoyed al fresco dining. A local staple in the Pawtuxet Village is gone. Since new ownership the food, ambiance and everything has changed.. besides the one wonderful waitress that has been there as long as I have been a customer (over 15 years). The "short rib" was the absolute worst cut of meat i have ever had. I took one bite and spit it out and it was 100% not short rib and had a strange gamey taste to it. The mashed potatoes were lumpy and strange flavored brown gravy. The vegetables were clearly frozen at some point. They tasted like freezer burn and watered down. The Irish nachos were edible, but not the same. I reluctantly said something to one of the servers about my dish being absolutely terrible and the manager came over. She insisted it was short rib and gave me an attitude. We felt so uncomfortable we just wanted our check since we felt like she was going to start an argument. We flagged the wonderful waitress who has been there a long time to close our tab ASAP. She did and the manager then came back and insisted that she discount the bill which was nice since that wasn't the intention. Rap and reggae music playing- no issue with that genre but it's an IRISH pub. It's not fitting for the environment. Normally the bar is completely full no matter what time or day- it was empty. In over 15 years I have never seen the place so quiet. My heart breaks a bit. Shame on the new ownership. IF YOU DONT KNOW HOW TO RUN A RESTAURANT DONT OWN ONE.. especially one that was successful. Over the past several years we have stopped in for a beve, lunch or dinner. We've met friends here and brought out of town guests. The food has always been good. On super busy summer days or evenings, service may be slow, but the staff here are generally friendly and I cut them some slack when every table is filled, including the patio. Al fresco dining is very nice when the weather is good. Just be aware the patio is on the road and only 1 or 2 tables have a view of the Pawtuxet river. Come for the company, not the view. The location, in the cute downtown area of Pawtuxet Village, is good. Before or after our visits we'll often walk along the water behind the restaurant or through the park a block away, also on the water. The food is pub food. Some Irish, and other things like fish tacos and wings. It has been consistently good. The corned beef in the Reuben is lean. The fried fish is not greasy. The stew is hearty. They have a full bar and a variety of beers on tap including Guiness. The menu includes some house created cocktails and the alcohol situation is such they can make most any (American or Irish) cocktail. The atmosphere is laid back. There is no pretension here. Come as you are for an Irish beer and some pub food. The staff is friendly and there are many 'regular' customers well known by the staff. You get pub food and atmosphere here and we always enjoy ourselves when we visit. read more

I have to be honest. I love their Lobster Roll !!! But that is ALL I like there. (see previous review) Pros: I think they have one of the best lobster rolls in RI and I try and get there a few times every summer. The lobster is fresh, the meat is ALL whole small claws and knuckles with a sweet flavor. It's lightly dressed with mayo and some celery with lettuce underneath. This is what I do - I simply open the roll and eat the lobster out with a fork and knife. And I enjoy every moment. Cons: The big roll is nothing special (and usually a bit hard ) The french fries taste like the oil needs to be changed asap in the fryer. The lettuce was limp, and the pickles were too wet, drenching the roll - yuck. Its a typical bar. If you get there when they open you can smell the cleaning fluid. Service is good unless it gets busy at the bar, then it's hard to get attention as the bartender is also the server in the day. Big tables wait for a long time- perhaps there is only one cook in the back? So yes, I go there for the lobster / roll and recommend the lobster salad. Sadly I can't recommend any other food. read more

What a disgusting establishment all around. As I walked into the bar area, i was hit in the face with an awful smell! The only way to describe it was dirty socks/locker room smell! It became stronger by the kitchen. Then as i stood by the bar evaluating whether i was going to stay! The bartender.. heavy set blonde with a very nasty attitude asked me what I needed... odd ? from a bartender.. i then said i was not sure, she replied well when you know let me know, and walked away. I was appalled at the service. Today at Orourkes, I had a very horrible experienc. first off, I got a beverage of choice which was a coke, and there were 17 PIECES OF ICE IN MY DRINK, Not even half of it was coke. the server was really mean, and took a sip of my friends drink... some girl orders a salad and it took wayyyy to long for something she didn't even eat... and the food took way to long for an APPETIZER, and forgot the ranch.Also got assaulted with notebook by waitress.
