For some reason, Murray's cant seem to get out of Hymies shadow, like the forgotten step child.... Almost every review here either mentions Hymies or compares it to Hymies in some way, and here I am doing it too! But I guess with two Jewish deli's so close together, that is bound to happen. My family and I recently dined at Murray's after being told there was quite a long wait at Hymies (the only reason we have ever come here). I was shocked to find that once at Murrays there restaurant was at least halfway empty, yet people were waiting forever across the street... it made me think "why isn't Murrays at least getting Hymies over flow????" Anyway - I can't explain it. Maybe its that the parking is a bit harder, the smaller size scares people off, or its simply not as visible? I really don't know. The food is excellent, the coffee is delicious, and the service is just as "good" as at Hymies. The breakfast potatoes are sooo good! So is all of the deli meat, and the matzo ball soup! I will start frequenting Murrays more often, and not just as a back up. read more

Boo.........BOO.............TRIPLE BOO!!!!!!!! Wow, in a neighborhood drowning in the chosen you'd think that a deli would be amazing no? NO! its not, its terrible. Also, its really over priced. Not many places offer breakfast midweek so mom and I were happy to go to Murray's since brunch is her favorite meal. Our server was about average. Neither friendly nor standoffish. Neither prompt nor slow. The order came out just as we had requested. She got two eggs (over medium) and ham with homefries and wheat toast. I got an eggwhite omelet with mushrooms, homefries and wheat toast. Tea for her, water for me. Mom's first complaint was that the water for the tea hadn't been boiled. As a Scot who's been drinking tea several times daily all her life, she knows these things. Microwaved hot water causes weird white scum-looking stuff to form on the surface. And the mug was really hot. Honestly, just boil the damn water. Ham and eggs were okay. The toast has been toasted (very good). Our differences happen over the homefries. She likes hers all crispy. I like mine less charred. Murray's does it my way. Unfortunately, they were super salty so neither of us were crazy about them. My omelet wasn't anything to write home about. It was kind of oily, fairly tasteless (my fault for ordering an eggwhite omelet, i guess), and the mushrooms were canned, not fresh. If you enjoy mushrooms, you know that there's a huge taste difference in fresh vs. canned mushrooms. Disappointing experience overall. My mom has been putting up with my requests to try new places in the area so that she can get her brunch fix, but if this keeps up, she'll be dragging me to IHOP soon enough. Good food but extremely RUDE OWNER or Manager running the cashier on a Saturday morning. You can walk in the door , stand there and be ignored as she is either looking at her phone or just spaced out. No Hello, how are you, nothing. What urks me even more is that upon paying the check, she will run your credit/debit card through, hand you back the slip, you sign it with a tip, she takes it back without a "Thank You, have a nice day " etc . Absolutely jaw dropping for a steady customer that I am. It is amazing how miserable she is ( Main Line privilege I presume ), and I have a problem with my money going into a merchants pocket when not appreciated. Taken for granted. Murray's Deli is just that...your typical delicatessen. It serves as both a restaurant and an actual take out deli. The restaurant section leaves something to be desired with the decor from the 60s. But the staff is pretty friendly and the service is fast. They have a great selection of sandwiches and their breakfast selection is not too bad either. I just wouldn't go there for dinner as their dinner selections are a bit sparse and the capacity within the dining room leaves something to be desired. Overall just a great sandwich spot. read more

Friendly service, had the murrays delight, seems that the pastrami was cooked way too much, like eating beef pastrami bacon. I've had their pastrami before and enjoyed it very much. I guess I would recommend that you order your pastrami cold. read more

When the place was sold 2 yrs ago, I was anticipating an upgrade in the food at Murray's - instead I have to give it a deep downgrade. Stay away! Since the new owners took over, the place has not been good - not that it was anything special before they purchased it. However, now it's worse. The owner behind the deli counter is not pleasant or accommodating. The menu is extensive like any normal jewish deli, but the food is below average - especially for the high prices. You're better off crossing the street and going to Hymies which is always decent. read more

We wanted to go to Hymie's but were pressed for time and didn't have the 20 minutes to wait to be seated, we walked to Murray's thinking it was comparable, we couldn't have been more wrong. Our first clue was that on a Saturday afternoon there were more employees than customers. The employees argued loudly which made us uncomfortable because we haven't gotten our food yet, but the reality was we already knew by the waitress' antics that we were in for a bad experience. When a deli can't execute simple deli staples they should consider another line of business. Maybe Hymies can buy Murrays as an annex to handle the overflow. We did not dine in, therefore I cannot rate the service of the wait staff. In terms of the deli guy who we got some to-go items from, he was very nice and helpful. That said, the quality of the prepared food for the price that is charged is outrageous. The tuna salad and potato salad respectively were sub-par, lacking any flavor whatsoever. We picked up loose bagels and at over a buck a piece did not feel that we got what we paid for (they tasted and felt day-old). The redeeming qualities of our experience were: The pickle was decent. The chive cream cheese was also as expected. The cashier process was efficient and done in a timely manner. So in summary If you do go to Murray's Delicatessen avoid the tuna salad and potato salad at all costs. There are many other delicatessens that should be attempted before resorting to Murrays. read more

THIS PLACE IS AWESOME! THE BEST AUTHENTIC JEWISH FOOD IN PA. IF YOU WANT BETTER YOU WILL HAVE TO GO TO NEW YORK! This use to be my go to spot for a good corn beef special. The corn beef was always quality and the sandwiches was packed with meat. That was the old days I guess. The sandwiches have been more inconsistent. I've mentioned it to the staff. Today's sandwich was horrible. The meat quality seemed different. This is really a 3.5 star but I thought I would be generous. The deli's a nice deli... not much to talk about there. The dining area in theory is well executed. The tables and decor set up is elegant enough for what I would consider a fine dining meal. The drawback is that the walls have a weird color scheme that simply isn't appealing. The place is like a pretty girlfriend who for some reason is not photogenic so you never tag her in your photos on facebook... but whenever you friends see her in person they're like "dude she's hot". read more

i grew up 4 blocks from murray's and it has been a fixture in my life for as long as i can remember. murray's is the kind of deli you can only find in places like philly, new york, and other east coast jewish enclaves. on one side you have all the meats and fishes: turkey, salami, whitefish, lox, all freshly sliced any way you want it, along with the pickles soaking in barrels (where else do you see that?) and the most delicious poppy homentashn you could ever have. and on the other side is the restaurant. best corned beef and turkey specials in philadelphia, hands down. lox, eggs, and onions with steak fries, a dr. brown's, and toasted everything bagel with cream cheese. this is eatling. read more

Man, has this place gone downhill. I live within a block of Murray's, which really used to be the place to go. I do like patronizing local establishments, which is why it's even harder to write this review. I just got back from Murray's to pick up a rye bread... my weekly trek there. It might be my last time going there. When I walked into the place, the cashier, who normally waits on me, was busy ringing up another customer. I walked over to the deli counter and stood there. A guy came walking up from the back of the deli, behind the counter so he obviously worked there, and walked right past me without saying a single word. Still standing there in disbelief, he then came back, walked right past me again, this time looking me right in the eye, and again did not say one word... not "can I help you" or "someone will be right with you"... nothing. By that time, the cashier had finished ringing up the previous customer and very politely, very efficiently, asked what she could do for me. After she got me my bread, I asked who the guy was that walked past me... twice, without asking if he could help. "Oh, that's the owner," she said with obvious embarrassment. Wow, I said... that was truly unbelievable. She apologized on behalf of the owner and I reassured she had nothing to apologize for. But he sure did. Murray's used to be quite the place to be, whether for great deli lunches, dinners, or just great deli at the counter. My family used to wait in line to be seated on a Friday or Saturday night. Now, you pass by on what should be a busy night and maybe two tables are taken... maybe. All the time, not a block and a half away is another deli, Hymie's, that still has people waiting in line and literally hanging out the door waiting to get in. And why not? Their food is great and hey still actually appreciate your business. In a final issue of poetic justice, Hymie's actually opening up an office.... RIGHT NEXT to Murray's. read more

Our experience was disturbing as our waitress struggled to get a hoagie order correct, sloshed our coffee into our cups so aggressively it got all over the table, and then ran in circles and yelled at the cooking staff. Murray's is a classic deli with a side for deli ordering and a side for the restaurant. It can get busy but we've never had a long wait. Breakfast is delicious. My husband likes the pastrami and eggs and I go for a simple scramble. The bagels are real, chewy bagels, not bagel-shaped bread like some places. We have been here several times and the food is consistently good and service is always pleasant. The restroom, though very tiny (would be hard to bring a child in with you), is immaculate. Overall, Hymies is probably better, but Murrays has a few great dishes: - Murray's delight - toasted pastrami ruben - Hot brisket sandwich - Murray's special - cold corned beef sandwich Stick with any of these and you'll leave satisfied. The dating is and look is part of the experience. I have been coming here for forty + years and nothing has changed. Nothing is different. The food is consistent as to what you are eating and overstuffed sandwiches. Cholesterol laden food, but that is what we have been eating since we were kids. Came by on Saturday for my first time because (why else?) Hymie's was packed. Murray's was half full. Got seated, ordered and served in 10 minutes! Had the excellent Nova platter with a fresh pumpernickel bagel - superb. Coffee was fresh, hot and delicious. The Jewish apple cake is as good as advertised. One really nice thing that would never happen at Hymie's : I was alone and got to enjoy a booth. I do like Hymie's, but I hate having to sit in those cramped-in New York-style tiny tables. I think I have a new go to place on the Main Line. And hey, I like Hymie's also so let's celebrate that we have two great delis to enjoy. read more

I can see why the pastrami / corned beef / roast beef connoisseurs may agree that Murray's meat is better in quality than Hymies. I ordered the Murray's Delight and I was indeed delighted with the pastrami, coleslaw, and especially the toasty bread. It was $10.25 which is now comparable with Hymies deli sandwiches which are just about the same price but Murray's lacks a full fledged pickle bar. As a college student, I like to get every bang for my buck so I enjoy going to Hymies for exactly that, the pickle bar, in addition to the good sandwiches. I was very excited when the Wakim family, of Al Dar next door, bought Murray's. I thought and hoped that it would bring a burst of adreneline into neighborhood staple. At least for breakfast, I was underwhelmed. I ordered scrambled eggs with potatos and toast. The eggs were overcooked and the potatos the opposite. Raw onion and underdone potatos.
