Murray's Delight and Hot Brisket Sandwiches
    Derek D.

On my quest to discover more about Jewish cuisine and culture, I've been on the lookout for a really good Jewish deli. Before a weekend trip up to Eagles Mere, my friend and I took advantage of going through the burbs and stopped by Murray's for an early dinner. The last seating is at 5:00, and we must have gotten there just in time. I had never had matzo ball soup before, so I was told I had to start with that. I was glad I did because I finally realized why it was such a staple of Jewish cuisine. I couldn't decide between brisket and pastrami, but luckily my friend was willing to split with me and we got both. I was expecting the brisket to be my favorite because, well, it's brisket. It was fantastic, but the pastrami was impeccable. I always give my friend a hard time for smacking his lips when he eats, but he called me out this time because it was legitimately lip smacking good! Naturally I had to end the meal with some desserts. My mouth was watering looking at all the options, and ended up getting more than we needed for sure because I just couldn't decide. I will say none of them really satisfied, which is unfortunate because I do love a good Jewish dessert, but I won't let those ruin the review. The final bill was a little higher than I was prepared for, but the servings were large and totally worth it. Definitely will be back at some point in the future!

Place was okay.... I prefer Hymies personally, because they have a pickle bar and the restaurant looks more appealing. The sandwich I had was good and their matzo ball soup was great, the waitress was also nice.

Debris found in corned beef special

After having spoken to the rudest, most aggressive cashier on the face of the earth, I picked up my lunch, only to find not one, but two foreign objects in my sandwich. The establishment was unapologetic and very condescending after confirming that I did in fact, have not one but two pieces of "wood" type debris in my sandwich. Will never order from this deli again, and would advise everyone to check their food before consuming. Had to threaten a lawsuit in order to have my payment refunded, since I wouldn't leave the evidence behind.

    Proof

Menu states bagel with cream cheese is $4.99. Insolent waitress charged $5.99 and refused to make the correction. Instead, showed us on the menu where it says "prices subject to change." Turns out she was the owner. Attitude of pit bull.

Very good Sandwiches! Took my parents here for lunch on a Monday. My mom has been craving beef tongue but unfortunately Murray's doesn't have it. No worries though, she got the NY Hot Pastrami Sandwich. It came on rye bread with Russian dressing, Swiss cheese and sauerkraut. I should've ordered the Rueben so we could've shared but I wanted my own NY Pastrami (on wheat). My dad actually ordered the same thing. As it turns out, none of us could finish more than half of our sandwiches. We all had them for lunch the next day. I've had bigger and better Pastrami sandwiches but they were in New York.

This place has a deli side and a restaurant side. For this review I'm critiquing the restaurant. Over the last three years I've visited several times both for breakfast and lunch. There hasn't been a remodel here in decades. The atmosphere is 60's or 70's and it's a little beat up. Some people might call it homey but that's a stretch. One other note; it's generally clean. The wait staff is just fine. Usually friendly and competent. Often I feel like I'm being served by my mother and that's not a bad thing. Now for the food. This is a three star place. Everything is hot and fresh. Portions are at least average and often large. Its three stars because when I walk out I never say "Wow that was great!" However I do say "Ahhhh that was good!"

Love their brisket and pastrami. Sandwiches are good size and fries are enough for two people. The staff was friendly and attentive.

I've never had such dark brown corned beef served to me Neither sandwich had any taste or flavor, like they forgot to put the pickling spice on. Maybe they aren't making the meats in house anymore? Pickle Bar - wow, you might as well just serve us the few sparse items that you now offer. Disappointing Overall- we travel a distance to come here and will take Hymies off our list. I've been a customer since Barson's on Haverford Ave in the 70s I had a sense that the love and care was no longer there. Sad

Such an awesome variety of foods including upscale and local options! I love that they carry Marchiano's and Pierogi Kitchen in their freezers! They also have your standard corner store chips, drinks, local snacks, and some grocery items plus some nice pastas, sauces, an entire hot sauce wall, etc. The hoagies and sammiches are delicious and I am constantly stalking their FB page to see what the latest special is and I'll usually just go and get that. I have had so many options from standard Italian hoagies to breakfast sammich, to brisket specials, roast pork, and everything in between! I have always been extremely pleased with anything I've gotten here and they are always adding new options (they now have soup, wings, fries, and other specials!). They also have great deli items, I love the mac salad! They used to be cash only which was never an issue for me because they have an ATM on site. But as of last week they now take credit cards! My only complaint is that they are on the pricey side - my hoagie + waffle fries + drink set me back almost $30. But I love supporting a new local business and the pricing has never deterred me - just something to keep in mind.
