The building, the views, the ambience of the inside of the restaurant and the wine and cocktails were all excellent. The dinner on the other hand was poor to very poor on both my Hangar Steak dinner and my wife's Cabbage dinner. I sent my dinner back after the first bite because it had a very strong vinegar taste and smell. My dinner partners agreed. I was first told by the waitress that the chef said it's pre-brined and there's nothing they can do. I asked the owner Carlos if that was going to stand. He went away and came back after some time and said I can give you a hanger steak with no sauce. How could that be if it was pre-brined? He said that's one of my favorite meals. By that time, my wife and our friends were finished with dinner and the wine was gone. The fact that the owner did not offer to comp my inedible meal causes me to give a very poor recommendation. Each year we have visited the blue while at Five Islands and know Carlos by name. We will not be returning. Why would any owner lose a returning customer over the cost of a hanger steak? read more

Fabulous restaurant with talented Chef.(Chef with a Capital C).We have dined in NY City,Paris,Rome, San Francisco and this Chef is as good as any. Almost everyone arrives early so they can sit on the wrap around porch and look out at the Atlantic with a glass of wine. We shared appetizers of Crab fritters with lime tarragon aioli, and Scallops on a thick slab of oven roasted bacon. We both had the oven roasted fish, excellent. For desert we had wine and sherry. We ate here last year also and at the time we stayed at Grey Havens. This time we visited and we are definitely returning later this summer. We dined on a Sunday night in May and the restaurant was full. read more

First of all, if you're a bourbon cocktail person, Richard is the bartender for you. And you may sit with your drink past your reservation because they try to pace the servers and kitchen if people are lingering which is no hardship. Second, on the night of a fall full moon, the view cannot be beat and it's already pretty fantastic on summer evenings. Third, I cannot believe I only got here once this season. Decent well-priced wine list. The salmon bacon on the caesar salad was the perfect addition. The warm rye bread was slightly herby and yummy. The fish was perfectly cooked. The filet as well. The blueberry cobbler with ice cream presented a problem-- how to slow down enough to really taste its deliciousness. Welcoming owners, fabulous service, drinks on the porch or in the lounge or at the bar, and of course delicious food. The dining room is elegant and cozy-- with the wooden floor, walls and ceiling, it's like being in a cigar box with big windows. Gotta make sure we go more often once they reopen in May. read more

What can I say but wow! Lovely room with an incomparable view topped by delicious food. Every bite from the chowder, beet salad, and lamb to the blueberry crisp was a delight...and it doesn't hurt that they have a top notch bar! The Grey Havens Inn is a treasure. We enjoyed every moment. read more

Chef and owners are very welcoming and food is simply amazing. My wife had broiled haddock- super fresh. My salmon was a culinary masterpiece. I would recommend this place to everyone. I vacation in Georgetown because it is away from it all, incredibly beautiful and peaceful. Limited dining within a half hour of our cottage though. Thank goodness that the two places available are exceptional and wonderful: Five Islands Lobster, for excellent lobster in the rough on a scenic deck. But for truly fine dining, it must be BLUE. Had three dinners there recently with 3 different guests. All rave reviews all around. Arriving at the Grey Havens Inn where it is located, doesn't look like much from the road, but as soon as you get on the magnificent wrap around porch of this historic Victorian venue, the view takes your breath away. Checked in at the front desk with the proprietor, Eve, who invited us to have a cocktail on the porch since we were a half hour early, Early by design, sitting on those rockers and enjoying the view with a great cocktail. Once at our table, a great range of offerings, both 'surf' and 'turf'. All the dishes are crafted by a talented chef, very sophisticated menu. My beef tournedos w/ onion jam could not have been more tender, perfectly medium rare to order. Local fresh fish ordered were different each night, all perfectly prepared -- glad that salmon was not overcooked, and slightly rare in the middle. The chowder was the best we'd had anywhere in Maine yet. Excellent wine list, quality bar offerings. The service was personable and attentive. It is a splurge on an otherwise rustic summer holiday, but one I look forward to every year. It's a total experience, from the gorgeous setting to the restaurant itself. read more

If you are not white, you should probably avoid this place and check out somewhere else to be completely honest. My girlfriend is Chinese and I am white and we got the dirtiest looks/stares from the other guests and staff of the restaurant. From the moment when we arrived about 5-10 minutes early for our reservation and see an empty dining room but are told our table is not ready so we are pressured to sit outside and order extra drinks the weird looks from the hostess and comments under their breath they didn't think we heard from other guests at the property began. When my girlfriend asked about ordering a non-alcoholic mocktail we were told the bartender gets easily flustered so if we asked for a mocktail they wouldn't know what to do. Once seated the waiter paid much better attention to the other tables who were all filled with old white people that looked like extras from Mississippi Burning and food was glacially slow to arrive. When it finally arrived it was nothing special, seafood chowder was best thing we ate as the white fish entrees (Haddock that night) was only OK. Just so glaring the different treatment we received being a mixed race couple and the unending stares from others made it rather uncomfortable and had us rushing to finish our meals and get back to our Airbnb. Very disappointing too was the fact we picked this place pretty much entirely on the fact they have Oysters listed right on the "Spring 2019" menu on their website but the waiter tells us they don't carry Oysters until Summer (June/July they said) because they have one person working the whole kitchen so they can't be shucking oysters and serving food. Why have oysters on your Spring Menu on the website if you know you won't be serving them? Also incredibly odd that this place is located in the heart of Lobster country and has ZERO lobster anywhere on the menu - I mean not in any shape or form including the seafood chowder. I understand maybe wanting to try and offer different options but seems weird not to embrace a local staple like that in to the menu when it seems they pride themselves on local ingredients. I'm sure it would be appreciated by tourists like ourselves who often venture up to Maine to indulge in some of the delicacy. EDIT: Fixed a typo I had in my original review. read more

I come to Blue several times each summer and am never disappointed. Arrive early and enjoy a cocktail on the fabulous porch with a beautiful view. You will be greeted by Eve and will then have an amazing meal. Last night we started off with fabulous home made bread. I then the most delicious appetizer of warm figs and strawberries with goat cheese and balsamic vinegar. Next was perfectly cooked beef tournedos with a mashed potato mixture of sweet and white potatoes (yum!) and broccolini. My meal ended with one of the best desserts I've ever had: chocolate waffles with a chocolate ganache, chocolate crumbs, hazelnuts and raspberry sauce. It was fantastic! I would be in heaven if I could have this meal every night of my life! Can't wait to return. read more

View to die for. Public welcome, stop by, have a coktail after hiking Reid State Park. The wrap around porch should be on HGTV. The inn associated with the restaurant is The Gray Havens. It is a historic landmark. Wonderful views. We didn't stay at the inn, but I bet it rocks!! Ok first off, the bartendress can make the worst beer taste great. She is so funny and wants you to be happy. She didn't have mint so no Mojitos, but my moscow mule was ok and my husband had a good Rum and Grapefruit. I wanted a Bellini and she was so funny to say that they only had basic juices but the Proseco alone should be outstanding. It was. The views are amazing. We sat for dinner by the window. Sophie was our waitress. She was funny and my husband teased her, poor thing, she took it in stride. I had the special tangy vinaigrette salad it was so fresh and good. I also had the special lamb top dinner. Amazing. the flavor was to die for and the cut of meat was good, I had one not so tender bite but the rest was great. Hubby had pork ribs, the fell right off the bones, no knife or fingers needed. Flavored just right he said, except a bit charred at the end but ok. Fingerling potatoes and very fantastic broccoli were the sides. For dessert we had vanilla pot de creme with whipped cream. Too much whipped cream but a good dessert. Eve, the owner, came by our table to ask how everything was. She runs a tight ship and was very pleasant. I appreciated her coming by to the table cause it wasn't fake or forced, she wanted to say hi to her guests and she was very sincere. Too bad they are only open in the summer, it would make a fabulous wintery day dinner to look at the river below. read more

Wonderful restaurant part of an Inn in Georgetown Maine on the way to Reid State Park. Cocktails on the porch could not be better as the view was to die for and the drinks were great. The restaurant was in a pretty room with good linens, well spaced tables and good table settings and the fore mentioned view. Service was excellent. We have had dinner here since they reopened and always had a very good meal. This time was no exception. The salad was good, fish was sweet and moist, without an excess of sauces, and the veggies were wonderful and fresh. Price was good for what we received. All restaurants should deliver like this one. read more

Maybe it was because we were tired, or had higher expectations but main course was what we had hoped for. I had shrimp and they were grilled too long and had that charred taste, plus the large end was fully cooked. My wife had salmon which had n unusual sauce.
