Musikant and Deutsch is where one should go if one needs a root canal and seeks the best care available in this great town of ours. I first met Dr. Douglas Kase on the phone in the mid-1990s when I was experiencing terrible pain in a tooth that was supposed to be "dead," given that a general practice dentist had already performed a root canal on it. Dr. Kase listened to my story, vetted my worries, asked questions, speculated aloud as to what the problem might be, advised me on what to do right now, and told me what my options were going forward. He closed by encouraging me to phone again if I had any further questions. In other words, even before I became his patient, he was open and generous, dealing with me like the intelligent human being I am, and answering my questions freely. He was fast, but humane. He was articulate and smart, but never dismissive or peremptory or anything else negative. Just the fact that Dr. Kase had the professional confidence to speculate aloud inspired my confidence in him. It turned out that the root canal needed to be redone. What a revelation to have a root canal procedure performed by Dr. Kase, compared to the original work that had gone wrong. Dr. Kase's was a finely-tuned, sharply-focused, extra-high-standards procedure involving an ultra-efficient interaction between him and his assisting technician. I sensed that I'd been lucky enough to discover a true expert, a master endodontist. My experiences w/ Dr. Kase since then -- unfortunately, I've had to have a few more root canals -- have solidified that extremely positive first impression. As of this writing, my most recent experience was in the summer of 2011. A tooth was acting up, there was a crack in it, and the question was whether or not it was a candidate for root canal. Dr. Kase was as frank and open as ever in sharing his assessment and advice. The forecast for success was low, in this case. In the end, I decided to have the tooth pulled. I knew I'd spring for an implant by Dr. Jutkowitz, an implant specialist whom I cannot recommend too highly. I also dealt in 2011 (and once before that) with another fantastic Musikant and Deutsch doc, Dr. Bui. In closing I'll say that the whole office is fantastic. As a group, the administrative staffers at the front desk are efficient and personable, and seem proud to represent the work of this fine dental practice. The practice at large, with its focus on endodontics, seems to offer the highest level of expertise in this field. A word about cost. I've never had enough cash to pay off the cost of any of Dr. Kase's root canals in full. I've usually paid by credit card. Once, I asked about, and they gave me, a monthly payment plan. I have no regrets about paying top dollar for top dental care, but I think dental insurance should be a LOT better in this country. read more

I've come to the office on two occasions, first to see Dr. Dukoff (whose job only gets a half a star from me) and on the second occasion Dr. Deca. On my first visit I waited for Dr. Dukoff for thirty minutes, not in the waiting room but in the dentist's chair, which I found odd to say the least. She was clearly in a rush, as I could tell she was tending to another patient, and without asking me a single question she very quickly and might I say harshly gave me a total of three anesthesia injections to prepare me for the root canal and left without saying a word for the next fifteen minutes. When she came back the whole procedure of the root canal took no longer than five minutes. For a dentist Dr. Dukoff seemed rough and uncaring, which shocked me quite a bit. The same day I started feeling a lot of pain. Five days later I was still in pain, called the office and asked to see another dentist. Dr. Deca was a complete opposite of Dr. Dukoff; he was polite, thorough, took his time and asked a lot of questions. He proceeded to redo my root canal with the use of a microscope and spent two hours working on it. He reminded me a number of times of what medication and how often I would need to take, then gave me his personal cell phone, in case of an emergency. What an amazing dentist! While I was in Dr. Deca's chair the office manger, whom I spoke with that morning, explaining my terrible experience with Dr. Dukoff, came to check in on me a few times, fixed my headrest and after my appointment asked if everything went smoothly. I have seen two doctors at this office: Dr. Douglas Kase and Dr. Sara Kim. Both are absolutely fantastic. Dr. Kase is excellent. So is Dr. Kim, she even called me the day after my procedure to make sure I was ok. I cannot be more pleased with their service and will refer anyone who asks to them. I've had horrendous experiences with many dentists in the past, who experimented on my teeth, that I was terrified of going to the dentist until I found this gem of a place. This place was a God-send when i was cornered to take drastic measures; all the previous dentists told me to pull out four of my front teeth because it's far too gone. I decided to go see Dr. Sarah Kim before I pulled all my teeth out because I've heard such great things about her. And THANK GOD I DID. The moment I stepped into Dr. Sarah Kim's office, all the stress and trauma I experienced from horrendous dentists were forgotten. First of all, when you sit in her office you get a view out the window. It was refreshing to see a scenery compared to a white wall; it made me forget that i was at the dentist's. Also the assistant was super friendly and nice; she always had a smile on her face and catered to my feeling which really made me feel like i was at home. I informed Dr. Kim of my dental history and other dentists' advise to pull out my teeth ASAP. After hearing my story, she took 3D x-rays of my teeth to gauge the seriousness of my teeth for herself. After looking through my x-rays thoroughly, she sat with me and explained everything to me patiently until we decided on the best therapy for me, which was to redo the 3 root canals (that previous doctors messed up on). She was the first dentist to really give me hope and built my trust. During my procedure, Dr. Kim walked me through it step by step so i can have a piece of mind. Not knowing what the dentists are doing in your mouth can sometimes really freak you out. But Dr. Sarah Kim explained each process and checked with me if i was ok or if it hurts. She and her assistant worked diligently to restore my dental health. They were delicate but precise. I think i would have been really nervous getting my 3 root canals redone if it was any other team. I was very comfortable and happy with my experience. After my treatment, i definitely noticed a difference in my dental health: my teeth doesn't hurt anymore and it is not as sensitive. To top it all off, when i went to my periodontist she complimented me on my improved teeth condition. My teeth are healthier than ever and a professional even recognizes that! Dr. Sara Kim is awesome. Went in today for an old root canal re-treatment. She is quick, precise and knows what she is doing. I was in and out with minimal discomfort and would totally come back. Bonus Points: The tooth in question had a crown on it and she drilled through it without damaging it at all. If you ever need a root canal done, definitely go see Dr. Sara Kim. read more

Thank you Dr. Kim and thank you, all of the ladies in the Musikant office!! I really want to leave my review here to let people know my true experience here with Dr. Sara Kim. I had a pretty serious infection in the root of one of my tooth last week. The pain has developed so fast and stronger that I had to call my general dentist, Dr Salim, who I only saw once since I just moved from Jersey to the City, on the third day of the non-stop pain jumping around my head. I don't think my general dentist treated me in a professional and caring way but long story short. They told me their gum specialist was not in house and I have to wait 3 more days to get seen. If you've been there, my friend, you've been through 3 days of non-sleep and non-food situation due to the endless pain from your tooth and swollen face, I really doubt you will understand and take it. At that moment, I know my gum needed to be drained just to prevent further infection developed to other areas like the ear. And I've described my symptom the first minute when I called on the Thursday morning. They didn't pay attention or refer me to a root canal specialist right after. Instead, they just give me a serious infection confirmation, which at that moment I didn't need but treatment. I was so frustrated because I have to reach out the root canal specialist myself on a Friday afternoon at 3:00 pm. All of the doctors I reached out were either booked or not in. I was even yelled by one of the doctors that why I reached out this late on a Friday afternoon. What can I do? My general dentist couldn't see me earlier and held me then. Anyway, Dr. Kim took me in even if she had another appointment and she had to squeeze her time to see me. The front office was so nice and so caring. I cried ,and I am being honest, over the phone because of the pain and no doctor was willing to take me in. (I haven't cried for things even a break up for years and I am almost 30 years-old). The minute the lady in the front office told me come in and she really listened to me, I was feeling so relieved cause I knew I would be taken care of. All of the ladies in the front office are so caring and friendly. You know when you feel you are taking seriously. I never feel the true sympathy from the front office was so so important at that moment. Dr. Kim was super professional and thorough. She open a small cut on my gum to drain the pups and that helps tremendously on my pain. Shen explained each step to me and tell me what would happen next in the following days before the root canal so I was prepared to know how much pain I would expect and how many days I need to wait to let it heal. She even left her own cell to me just in case something came up. My infection stopped right after the treatment and I could feel the healing day by day by looking the puffiness gone gradually in the mirror. She did my root canal yesterday just as professional and thorough as the first time I saw her. I had 4 root canals so far included this one and I have some judgment of how professional the doctor is. If I'd ever be looking for a professional, cared and reassured treatment for my gum next time, I would go to Dr. Kim and the office with no doubt in the first second. I want to be treated and taken good care of instead of being treated faking- friendly and cold-denied when an emergency came up. Dr. Kim called me this afternoon just to check up how I am feeling. That's how I expect and define what a good doctor is. I don't know why Dr. Kim doesn't deserve 5 stars. My previous general dentist has almost 5 stars ratings online and look what I've been treated. There is so much more to write about Dr. Kim. She even checked up for my other teeth in other area because I felt pain too. She doesn't have to do it and could really leave it to a general dentist. But I was so touched by her spirit as a doctor to cure and help the patient. Dr. Sara Kim is really great. I went to her with a complicated root canal on a Saturday, and I was in a lot of pain. She was patient and gentle, and she informed me about every step. Dr. Dukoff is absolutely amazing. I came in for a consultation and she immediately gave me a treatment plan. She booked me for an appointment that week after the consultation. With her patience and determination to help me not only do I feel better, I look better. She's that stern jewish mother that tells you the truth, you may not want to hear it at the time she tells you but its necessary. She really helped me. She is the best dentist I have ever been to. I've been to Dr. Kim twice and both times were great! She was nice, patient and explained every procedure - definitely recommend.

This dentist and his office submitted a claim for services that were not performed. The follow up with the insurance company has not happened and I cannot have the service somewhere else until they return the check an cancel the false claim with my insurance company. I am currently 10 weeks pregnant and the office manager just yelled at me over the phone. "I don't want to hear your complaint" is what she said. Stay away from this place. I was referred to Dr. Deutsch by a regular dentist to see if I needed a root canal. The girl at the front desk had me sign a statement that I would be responsible for whatever my insurance didn't cover. I specifically asked how much I would be responsible for, since I was just there for a consultation and not a specific procedure. I was assured that my insurance would cover the consultation minus my copay, which I agreed to and signed the form. Well, fast forward a month or so and I am on the hook for an extra $50 that I was not told about at the time of service even though I specifically asked, and of course I'd signed the incredibly vague form which basically opened me up to owing whatever the office decided to charge. Too much trouble to try to dispute for $50 but needless to say if I ever do need any procedures I will not be taking it to such a dishonest office. read more

I was referred to Dr Musikant by my dentist for a root canal. I checked to make sure that he was listed on my Met Life list of Dentists that accept my insurance. When I got to the office the rude receptionist took some info from me, saw my insurance card in my hand and asked me if I wanted to show her something. I said yes my insurance info. She then said that Dr. Musikant doesn't accept insurance and that I would have to come up with $2500 for a root canal before I leave. I told her I would have to cancel the appointment. She then told me to wait a minute she would check with the Dr. And disappeared in to the back. I waited a few minutes but all kinds of red flags were goin off in my head, the rudeness, the expense, not taking my insurance. So I left. 10 minutes later I get a message stating that now they are willing to work "in network" but I had left. No way I was letting them work on me after that experience. read more
