I really enjoyed this little part of Brenham. On our day trip to visit Brenham we ran across this restaurant in the historic district. While the long line out the front door is daunting, the wait is worth the few extra minutes(35 mins) The food was fresh, delicious, and plentiful. All members of our party were pleasantly satisfied with their sandwiches and desserts. We also appreciate the restaurant's staff for their courtesy and friendly attitude. The decor is a bit disorganized but the atmosphere is a friendly and inviting. This is definitely a place to enjoy on your next trip to Brenham, Texas. read more

Gosh, an old-fashioned soda fountain with jukebox, booths, and all the old-fashioned implements -- this place is great! I loved the restored refrigerators with the condensors on top (haven't seen one of those in years!), the restored stoves -- fun! You walk up to the counter and order, wait for your order, and find a place to sit. It's a soup and salad kind of place, with sinful home-made desserts such as bread pudding, lemon chiffon pie. The homemade chicken soup was wonderful. Check out the ladies' room with the display of ladies' hats from the '40s and 50's. Must Be Heaven is my all time favorite (non-chain) place to stop for lunch! I am there at least once a month, if not more, my friend and I always meet up for lunch here. They can get busy during lunch time, but they move extremely quick. I always get their "Heavenly Special" - half a chicken salad sandwich, a bowl of broccoli cheese soup, a bag of chips and a drink for about $9.00 - some may think that is expensive, but it is quite a bit of food & it is all fresh, not frozen. read more

Adorable old fashion sandwich and malt shop. We had the pimento cheese sandwich and quiche. It was very good. Food is fresh and huge selection of choices. They also have a a yummy selection of homemade pies. I like the old style soda bar for the kids and BIG kids to sit at. Well run establishment with courteous young staff. This is a favorite of ours in Brenham. We almost always make it here for lunch when we visit there. Lunches there consist of sandwiches, soups and salads. The sandwiches are very good - I haven't been disappointed with any picks I have made. They are very good with the kids serving kids meals in cardboard boxes that look like cars. Soups are fine and salads are okay. The real attraction, however, is dessert. They have a daily wide variety of pies which are all excellent and they also serve Blue Bell Ice Cream. Had a piece of cherry pie a la mode today and it was very good - but you can't go wrong with any of the pies. The format of the restaurant is a basic cafeteria line where you order, pay for, and pick up your food. The lines can be long at lunch time, but they move reasonably fast and we have always found a place to sit down, though it is often crowded. read more

Maybe I should have had pie. The menu features sandwiches so I went for a very simple grilled Ham and Cheese. While the taste was ok the meat didn't fill the bread! For $7 you think you'd get a decent amount of sandwich! Very disappointed. My wife had the soup which was watery and bland. The ketchup at the table came out of the bottle brown. My only negative opinion about this place is they need to work on the "chicken" in the salads also the chicken salad they make and put over avacado is okay. there is not much flavor in it..it's it very blan. Was really disappointed in this place after seeing all the positive Yelp reviews. When you walk in the place is really cute, vibrant, happy, and has a nice cafe vibe but when we got in line the staff was the opposite. Everyone seemed tired and overall like they didn't want to be there. Anyways about the food. Only one person liked their food and it was the rueben sandwich with brocolli and cheese soup. They said the meat was lean and the soup was flavorful. The French dip tasted "off". The vegetarian options, while they had two, were a bit disappointing. Props for effort but it was essentially flavorless. Honestly I wanted to give two stars, but the Dutch apple pie was good even though we had to wait a bit after the staff forgot about us. overall: nothing special and it's a bit pricey for a plain sandwich place and the restrooms were a little gross. read more

They were closing early so I had an excuse to avoid the temptation of Blue Bell ice cream! Had a late lunch at 2:30 and the place was busy. We had the quiche (cheese and spinach) and a grilled Texas monte cristo. Both were outstanding, as was the broccoli salad. We also had sawdust pie and peach praline pie.....mmmmmm. Will definitely return. read more

We timed it right on a Sunday afternoon just passing through. You stand in line to order, wait for your food at the counter, then sit. After we got seated, the food line was LONG!!! Know what you want - there isn't much time to look at the menu before you have to order. I had the monte cristo (made just like a regular one minus the batter). The jelly had a kick to it and was spread inside the sandwich. Served warm and crispy. So GOOD! The kid meals come inside a fun car shaped box. Chips were full sized snack bags. I had the heavenly special with a turkey half sandwich and cup of Broccoli soup which came with a tiny pickle spear and a mint for 9 dollars which was way over priced, but was fresh and tasted good. Our 1st time here on a friends recommendation. Right at lunchtime place was packed with 2 tour buses. We ordered daily special chicken and dumplings and French dip sandwich. French dip was soggy due to over buttered and undertoasted bread. The only flavor to the sandwich was salty and that was without the auj jus dip. The dumplings were also a bit too salty and the dumplings were a bit plain and reminded me of store bought frozen. A cold sandwich and any of the salads fruit plates and soups looked appealing. As did the pies some ladies were eating in the dessert section of the restaurant. I would stay away from hot sandwiches and entrees. read more

Our larger family met here as it is between spot from Houston and Austin. Love Brennan. Grew up on Bluebell. So we gave it a try! First impression was that was not built for larger groups. We have six people-four adults and two under 10. Tables meant for two with four chairs all over. Decor was cute though the wall separating rooms really seemed to limit space. It however separated the lines. When we got there the space was fine as not too many people. Everyone was super sweet. Polite staff as well as customers. I'm recently having issues with bread/gluten but I was able to get a nice meal (stuffed avocado which was very good quality and tuna salad which was not runny or overly done. I also got to fix a small salad at the salad bar.) My son had the Texas Monte Cristo which he sat flaunting beside me. Really good he said. My husband had the Club and my mom the chicken salad sandwiches. Both happy but not overly thrilled for The price. The kids meals were really cute and my girls loved their pickles. By the time we ordered dessert it was crowded. A different group of customers were coming in. I encountered a lot of negativity trying to get my family to the restroom at the back. It's not the restraunt s fault there were rude customers. The poor spacing however is an issue with the restraunt. Everyone trying to fiqure out who is and is not in line. No path to walk with a full restraunt. Line right up against tables. It is poorly planned. Moving on to dessert. With the hype I expected better. Pecan pie ok. Kentucky Bourbon was not what my son was used to. Not what I expected either. The peach praline is what I had. Pie crust was bland. Which probably was for the best as I should not have been eating any way. The peaches were basic. The pralines tiny. I did get a nice chunk of shell in there too. it does happen. At least I know their pie was human made. Ice cream Bluebell. Always great. Small selection however. Over all-its cute and sweet. Nothing fancy or overly amazing. Needs better planned space. My sister and I were in Brenham today enjoying the bluebonnets and visiting shops with a friend. The Must Be Heaven restaurant was recommended by a nearby store owner. We went in expecting a good sandwich and wonderful pie. I had the ham and Swiss cheese sandwich with chips. The sandwich was good and the price was right. My sister ordered the chocolate meringue pie and I had the lemon meringue. They looked good. They were not! The lemon pie did not taste like lemon and the texture was unpleasant. The chocolate had an aftertaste. I would not recommend the pies to anyone. It is a large place and quite busy. This place was a gem, hiding in plain sight, right in the heart of downtown Brenham. I had the best French dip and my wife had a chicken salad sandwich. The staff was so kind and made us feel like regulars. The kids ordered some ice cream (which they claimed was the best they've ever had even though we eat blue bell all the time) and afterwards we ordered some coffee to cap off a perfect lunch. The ambience was that of an old fashioned small town diner and even though it was the 'Uptown Swirl' annual wine tasting event and there were thousands of people flooding the streets, we had plenty of room to enjoy ourselves thanks to the large dining area. There are many antique artifacts to look at and play with and due to its location, you can easily walk to just about everywhere you need to go to right from the restaurant. Absolute rip-off. Very, very over priced for what you get. Not worth the price. My wife and I paid $17.00 for a small bowl of salad and tiny pastrami sandwich. The pie was good, but shipped in.
