This might be the best place in town sure seems like it's filled with Happy People Gavin out loud and places noisy like a New York diner. Wow happy people getting what they need. We had a club sandwich and beautiful chef salad I must admit I've never seen a chef salad where they give you the lettuce give you the meat and then send you over to salad bar to put on whatever toppings you might like. An interesting salad bar 2 because there must have been at least a dozen types of dressings making the salad bar more than half dressings and the rest toppings the usual you know cheese and beans and bacon bits and sunflower seeds and was broccoli onions and so on it was real nice to use the tea room connected to the Maine Diner and we had a quiet almost private dining room for ourselves we'd like that. Really enjoyed this quaint little cafe! It takes you back in time. We had half a chicken salad sandwich and broccoli cheese soup. They were both delicious!! Then we had the Dutch Apple pie with a scoop of BLUE BELL (best ice cream in the world!) it was amazing!! It was nice because they waited until we finished lunch and then we went and picked up the dessert when we were ready. Everyone was very friendly. Busy place but the line goes quickly. Came in during the weekend for lunch with friends. I wanted to try a mom and pop place that screams Brenham. So decided to try this place so we can have a meal and then pie afterwards. The place was quite big. One side is for desserts and the other side is for meals. There was about 10 ppl so there wasnt quite a lunch rush. Ppl start trickling in and the place starts filling up. Their quiche was quite good. Had the crab artichoke and spinach quiche. Had cheese broccoli soup with my quiche... next time probably try fruits instead... too much cheese. Tried the dutch apple pie and i must say it is delicious. The pie itself was not too sweet. Its just perfect! Cute place with a variety of things to buy from sandwiches and pie to cappuccino to Malts. It was very busy when I visited and the gentleman that helped me at counter shredded some plastic spoon in my malt. I discovered it half way through the shake. He apologized and offered to replace. This restaurant is SO good! The menu has tons of variation, including vegetarian options. The prices are not bad for what you're getting. The restaurant itself is very vintage-y and cute!! I had the grilled cheese with salad and it was fantastic. The environment is so great and not too loud. The food is served very quickly and the workers are super nice. Dessert is SO good. Ok If you're not from a small town...and you're not from Texas...then some of you below probably would not understand the atmosphere of MBH. The atmosphere is to be an old school soda ice cream shop with country antiques as décor. HELLO you're in the country!! The décor is going to be different from the city, and it is not an "old lady" atmosphere. The line that's usually out of the door should be a sign the food is amazing. Their food is amazing from their pies, sandwiches, to the ice cream it's all good!! If you think it is over priced then again you do not understand quality from quantity. To make the quality sandwiches, soups, or pies from scratch then it takes lots of $$$. Think about it...the price of things have gone up, and to have quality you're going to pay more. Went to visit the Blue Bell Creamery and stopped here for lunch. Expect long lines, but they move quickly. The lady taking our order was having a social conversation way too long. We acted like we didn't exist. Rude. We all got the chicken dumplings which was the special for that day. Not bad, but a bit too spicy. The floors could have been cleaner. Must Be Heaven is a must stop on any trip to Brenham. It is not a fancy or new place in any stretch of the imagination. If you are looking for that you should go up to the freeway area of town. But, if you want an old town cafe and ice cream shop with homemade pies this spot is for you. You can't go wrong with the chicken salad. You can get a half a sandwich, a cup of broccoli salad and chips for about $9.00. Doesn't sound like a lot but the sandwich is stuffed! The broccoli salad is to die for! They have a variety of teas as well as coke products. We sometimes drive from Houston just for this meal. On one side of the restaurant you order your meal and the other side you can order just ice cream and dessert. They serve Bluebell ice cream products. It gets crowded on Sundays at lunch time and especially during Bluebonnet season. So go early or at off peak times. Keep in mind that although the line may be to the door it does move pretty quickly. read more

We lived in Brenham for around six years, and ate regularly at Must Be Heaven - somewhere between 2-5 times a month. A year ago we moved away, but returned recently for a house closing, and we had lunch again at MBH. Things were as we remembered them, meaning the food is pretty good and fresh, the prices are okay (maybe a bit high because of the Creamery tourist crowd business), and it's always a pleasant meal there. Note that at peak times the line can be out the door, so if you're heading out to see the bluebonnets on a beautiful spring Saturday and you stop by MBH at noon, you'll probably have a significant wait. Their broccoli-cheese soup is particularly tasty, and it's something they have every day, and they typically have a rotating selection of at least two other soups, one of which is sometimes vegetarian. My wife typically gets a combo consisting of two items picked from the sandwich, soup, salad, and quiche choices, and she loves the fresh, healthy options they provide, which are not typical in Brenham. For six years, I got the french dip sandwich 99.9% of the time. It's not always perfect, but it's always good, with generous proportions of meat and cheese, and a freshly toasted foot-long hoagie roll. A small pet peeve, and this says more about me than them, I suppose, but I went in there multiple times a month for six years and ordered the exact same thing, and never once got even a glimmer of recognition from the owners or staff The other side of the restaurant is an old-fashioned malt and ice cream shop, so you can wander over there after lunch for dessert, or just order it with your lunch. They also do fresh-baked pies and cakes, as well. On the downside, sometimes the quality of the food prep is spotty. They tend to hire local high-schoolers or junior college students, and although they are usually great at what they do, at slower times of the days you can get less experienced staff who aren't quite learned in making all the menu items. But, overall, MBH provides a solid value with good food in downtown Brenham. read more

The sandwich was just OK, but the soup was terrible: a slice of Swiss cheese on the bottom and lukewarm soup! a lot of money for not much. I have been coming here every few years for about 20 years now and this last visit was awful. The quiche was bland (ham, cheese and mushroom) and a bit runny... the M&M cookie was not nearly as good as I had remembered for a few years back, and even the fountain drink was flat. This was our first visit. The food was good. Was a little confusing going in and finding were to order but we found it prior to leaving. Nobody ever greeted us and the staff was not real friendly. Even after telling them it was our first time they still were not very friendly or helpful. They never explained the menu or even explained to us about the salad bar or potato fixing. Flies everywhere! Also the special of the day was crawfish and rice and the way they served it was less than appealing. They cut a square out of the casserole dish and newked in the microwave for a minute to serve. There was a slab of cheddar cheese melted across and the flavors were bland at best.
