I helped my buddy limp in his classic Mustang for repair, which was making loud noises from the rear of the car. To my surprise, they quickly and accurately identified a catastrophic bearing failure in the rear axle. Before I knew it, the car was jacked up, and the rear end was completely torn apart. They had the correct parts already in the shop, and within an hour and a half, my buddy's Mustang was completely repaired and reassembled, and we were on our way. Absolutely amazing! My 1965 Mustang 289 Was overheating , and I replaced everything and no luck it kept overheating until Mr.Mitch started working on the car and found out the sending unit was bad he replaced at a reasonable price , modified my fan and shroud and now overheating is a thing of the past. I recently drove from NYC to CA in my 1966 fastback; had a slight mishap on the way that produced a nasty oil leak, plus she was running hot and rough, and during some earlier work her windshield wiper fluid apparatus had somehow vanished. Luckily a friend in the area pointed me towards Mustang Fever; first time I brought her in, Mitch (the Mustang Whisperer) put her on the hoist but the source of the leak remained a mystery, and he already had his hands full with other jobs, so I had to bring her back. He kept her for three days, found the source of the leak, trimmed the shroud so she ran cooler, made the pistons sound less like John Bonham on speed and more like JB on 'ludes, and installed a fantastic wiper fluid tank. After that she ran like a dream, and easily made the return trip back to the city. I will definitely bring her back for tweaks whenever I am out there, cos Mitch is a magician who I cannot recommend highly enough. I went to Mustang Fever based on the high ratings here on Yelp, unfortunately my experience was much different. I drove down to Mustang Fever three weeks ago and spoke with Mitch. He told me to call him in a few weeks because he will have two completed projects by then and will have room for my '66 Mustang. I called in today (earlier than he had told me to call in) just to check on the availability. Mitch told me that he won't have room for my car until over a month now. He then offered to put my name on a waiting list to ensure a spot. Well, why didn't he do that to begin with, when I drove down in person that day? It's frustrating to say the least. I took my brothers 1966 mustang in December Mitch fixed the radiator fan and a few other things (which was roughly $1000). I also asked Mitch to look at the car and give me a list and estimate of the other repairs that needed to be done. I came back and dropped it off on July 2 to complete the rest of the repairs so that I could safely take my brothers car back to San Francisco. I picked it up on Thursday July 9. I had to take it back the same day twice because of the right brake and signal light not working (one of the items on the list was to get the brake line fixed) so the lights were not checked. No biggie he fixed it right away. To reassure myself the car was safe ready to go I asked Mitch do you think it is safe and able to make it to SF. He said yes! I then parked it in my garage over night. On Friday morning as I'm driving down the 101 N/B the car stops off the freeway exit. I send Mitch a picture of the engine and told him it was missing a cap. He said it was the power steering. He tried to give me directions on trying to get the car to start which didn't work. Idk why this would've happened if i just spent nearly $2000 on getting the car repaired. He didn't offer any other help. I have doubts on the quality and work he says he performed on the car because of the occurrence. I also believe I was over charged for the lack of attention and quality that was performed on the vehicle. Causing it to stop immediately off the freeway exit after only a 40 minute drive just after picking it up from this shop the day before. read more

My wife and I recently purchased our second Ford Falcon Sprint. This Falcon arrived from Omaha, NE in rough shape. After having a bad experience with another transmission shop I called Mitch at Mustang Fever to see if he'd have time to work on our car. We set an appointment and a couple of weeks later I dropped the car with a list of things I wanted fixed. The next day I was called by Mitch to go over what he found wrong with the car and the cost to repair everything. We discussed each item in detail and he answered all my questions. I agreed to have the work completed and was told everything would be done in about a week and half. During the time he had the car, I stopped by to see how progress was coming along and he explained where he were in the project and what was left to be done. I also called a couple of times to have things added to the list and he had no problem accommodating my requests. When we picked up the car ten days later. It was running like a top. Everything he said he would fix was fixed and then some. We were very happy. We went over the bill in detail and everything looked correct. We drove the car home and it was running better than expected. We are very happy that we called Mitch and bringing out Falcon to a Mustang is a perfect fit since everyone knows that the Falcon is the granddaddy to the Mustang. Either way, the learned here is that you take a classic car to a classic car repair shop if you want someone who knows what's going on to work on it. I drive a '68 Mustang and I wouldn't let anyone else but Mitch from Mustang Fever touch it. When I originally bought this car I knew it needed some love so I took it here to get a list of obvious things done to it and the front brakes upgraded to disc. I think Mitch spent well over half a day to provide me with a 3-page report on what he found with everything ordered by importance so I could pick the things I'd like him to take care of. He did not charge me a dime for all the work on this report and I could just have walked away had I wanted to. I ended up having quite a bunch of things done and I don't regret any of it. I've been driving the car almost daily for a year now and there hasn't been a single problem with any of the work done to it at this shop. Later on I had a radio and LED taillight modules installed here and one repair incident when one of my strut rods had broken due to a wrong bushing installed by the previous owner. Everything is done timely and the work is of very high quality. I've never felt over-charged, over-quoted or pushed into unnecessary repairs/services. Mitch and his son's at Mustang Fever are the best! All my life I dreamed of having a 66 Mustang, but it had to red with black interior, 289, automatic, etc.... I finally found THE car which came with all the repair records since new. It was for sale from the original family. In the late 80's, the owner found Mustang Fever and from that time on, only used them for any and all repairs. Before I pulled the trigger and bought the car, I called Mustang Fever and talked with Mitch. He immediately knew the car I was considering. He told me it was a solid car, but he hadn't worked on it for a while (the family rarely drove it, hence the reason they decided to sell it). I bought it and brought it right to him to get a complete list of what needed to be done. He wrote up three pages of items that it needed. I told him, go for it and do it all! 6 weeks later, I was overjoyed with the results. Recently I took the car back to Mustang Fever to add air conditioning. Again, they did a great job. We went in today to take our 72' 351 Cleveland with apparently what it is known now thanks to Mustang Fever, an idling problem. They called us back within an hour to advise us the problem and fixed the issue. ...Since we had them on the line we asked them if they could figure out another problem; he informed us how much it was thus far and that if we wanted to proceed it would be ofcorse extra. We asked them how long he thought it would take and with certainty he couldn't say, it could be an hour two so on... 30 min later he had an answer! :) Love the fact they don't jerk you around or squeeze out as much $ from you unnecessarily. I am the original owner of a 1966 Mustang hardtop coupe. Mitch Jilg has been caring for my car for thirty years or more. He was able to restore the engine when I ran out of oil and drove it for four miles back to my home. AMAZING man and a genius with older Mustang engines. His shop has restored the exterior with Ferrari Red paint, which looks as good today as it did ten years ago when he painted it. They have also reuphostered my front bench seat, fixed a number of mechanical things over the years and just kept my car in top running order for as long as I can remember. You can't find a better mechanic than Mitch -- he knows every nut and bolt of every classic Mustang and will NOT gouge you as many other Mustang shops will. It has always been a family business, and with Mitch and his sons now running the place the tradition continues. Disclaimer: I really enjoy talking with Mitch about pretty much anything, so I may be a bit biased. That being said I enjoyed the work he did on my 65 Fastback (since sold - sigh), and more recently my 1967 Mercury Comet. While a Mercury is not Mitch's regular forte he quoted me a good price for replacing the floors and vent window seals and got the work done in a timely manner. And he is a great consultant, even when my Mercury pushes him slightly out of his comfort zone!
