On 4/12/2022, my 29-year-old Iron Horse MT600R needed a lot of work--it was called an 'overhaul.' The quoted labor-charge was $350, so I figured it would take several hours. In actuality, all work was completely done in 2 hours, which translates to $175 per hour for labor! I believe I was overcharged on parts too. For example, I was charged $50 per tire for Duro City Cavalier 26x1.50 black-wall tires, and I later saw they were readily available on the internet at $31 per tire, max. No 'supply chain' issues. Who knows whether the pricing on other parts exceeded fair and reasonable rates! I intended to take my other Iron Horse in, later in the week. But after assessing the exorbitant pricing on my MT600R, 'My Bicycle' lost my business. I won't return. Choose carefully! *Update* In addition to the owner's response to my Yelp review, a few excerpts from his texts to me included these comments: "Stop crying." "Cheers." "God bless." "You're just a jealous hater. You're a jealous hater clearly." And, "You're a liar." My Yelp review was my customer experience. Cameron over at My Bicycle is great! Cool little shop. I went and got my wheel trued, new bar tape and to get my gears indexed because it was skipping. I was able to get an appointment quickly and my bike was ready same day I took it in. I got a tune up and my bike is riding better that it has in a long time! Cameron offered great customer service. I had a brand new beach cruiser that had been sitting in my garage for three years. I finally decided to get it tuned up and ready to ride for the summer. I called Cameron and made an appointment for noon a few days later. I took my bike in and (no kidding) 20 minutes later the tubes were changed, frame was tuned up and it was ready to go! So I needed a bike to commute to school. I've owned a beach cruiser and a mountain bike, but I wanted a road bike for speed and distance. I specifically asked my friend who's basically an expert on bikes to critique the ones I would find in local shops. I kid you not; I searched almost 6 different stores in Downtown Long Beach. I almost settled on not getting a bike because they were so expensive (mid-$600 and up) and I wanted an used bike since I'm not a serious rider and it's mainly for commute. It was then that Yelp found this cute vintage shop in my endless search. And then there, my red speed bike whom I named Marvel, sang out to me! Cameron, the owner, is extremely knowledgeable and super friendly. He only charged me $190 for BOTH the bike and a BRAND NEW U-LOCK. Yeah, super crazy! Total cost difference from $600. So he made sure my tires were good, tuned up some of the parts and even helped me disassembled it to fit into my sedan car. He was so great, my roommate decided to buy a beach cruiser on the spot as well! He charged her a little less for a vintage beach cruiser that has different speeds and also threw in a brand new U-Lock. In addition, he also gave me a free bike reflector and a nice nightlight thing if I choose to ride at night. I'm telling you, Cameron really enjoys what he does and it showed when he was giving us a history and run-through of our bikes. He's also a good interior decorator. The inside of the shop is beautiful and the displays attract the eyes and flow nicely. There are also small ottomans inside where my friends and I sat down when he was doing his thing. Imagine, he built most of the things inside the shop, too. Cameron is one talented man. I support local shop businesses. And I'm also a social worker, so it was really cool when a woman who looked kind of homeless came in and just chatted with him about his day. He's conversational and never once shooed her away. I believe that says a lot about a person--he's social not just with his customers but with everyone. And there's a dog bowl outside, so it's welcoming for not just two-legged but four-legged creatures, too! How family friendly. This is as good as it gets. Real cool, down-to-earth guy who's extremely intelligent and loves his "hobby" that's more than just a job. My bicycle has never been treated better! I have an old seventies road bike that I use to commute. I had it tuned at another bike shop once or twice and it never really was quite right. I attributed it to having an older bike - it will always creak and groan a bit. The first time I took it to Cameron for a full tune, it rides PERFECTLY. He pays attention to all the little details that can make for a smoother ride and that will make your bike last longer. Was it more expensive? Yes, but it is worth it a thousand times over. I went here on Saturday July 7th, 2018 because I was having problems with my back tire. My last bike shop was not helping with this episode and I had seen Cameron's shop there at 4th and Orange and decided to give him a try. He discovered the source of the problem. At my last bike shop, which shall remain nameless, they left part of the tire liner folded under against the tube and Cameron quickly discovered this to be the case when I went to see him on Saturday July 7, 2018. No tire problems since then. Monday April 15, 2019. Went back to his shop because the steering was tight and the bearings were not adjusted properly. Cameron did an overhaul on the front end. He put in new bearings and a new grease pack in the head tube, put in a new spacer under the handlebars, de-rusted my front forks, put new bolts and spacer washers on my front wheel axle and inflated my tires to full pressure. He also removed a metal part that looked like it did not belong there. Now I can get up to speed from a standing start in 3rd gear going into the wind and the steering is so fluid that I now can zig zag gracefully at cruising speed. Last weekend my bike got stolen. I've always wanted to get a bike from My Bicycle. This shop has cool bikes and I like that the owner Cameron builds all the bikes. Ok so I go to My Bicycle as there was a purple bike in the window I have been eyeimg for a hot minute. Now unfortunately the frame is too small for me. After talking to Cameron he said we could build a bike and he showed me this bike that he had but I had a specific idea in my head so I passed on it. Blah blah blah I came back today and we were talking about bikes and then we started talking about the Lotus he showed me last week and there was no denying I like the frame. The color wasn't my usual color I would go for but it is a cool color. As we are talking I start to pick out parts and Cameron is like let's add this let's do that. And I'm digging where he is going. Fast forward to a couple hours later and he has built me the sickest bike I have ever owned. I literally went for a bike ride right after I left the shop and can't wait to ride My Bicycle (see what I did there? ) everyday there after. If you have a bike that needs a tune-up or looking for a bike check this place out. Conveniently located near the heart of downtown LB, this place has it all. It is a quaint bike shop that does good work. The owner fixes your bike so you know you are getting quality service. Jobs are done promptly. All work will be done the same day you bring it in. I went here on Wednesday to get a derailleur cable re-attached because it was shredded. The service was quick and while waiting you can't help check out the shop. There are skate videos on loop on the TV in the waiting/showroom, a small skate shop in the back, accessories, and friendly people that pop in. I talked to the owner as he was working on my bike and he gave some good recommendations for rides around the area. This is a review for their customer service: 5 huge stars! I usually go to another bike shop to get air in my tires. They have an automatic air pump out front. But they close early. You might know the one I'm talking about. Anyway, so they closed early! So I had passed by "My Bicycle" before and swung by. I was immediately greeted by a guy out front who worked there. I couldn't see an automatic bike pump hose, but asked anyway. He brought out a manual bike pump. "Perfect", I thought. I'll just use that to fill up my tires. But NO! He INSISTED on inflating the tires himself. I don't remember that being in any book of chivalry or customer service. It was so unexpected it made me feel self-conscious. Cameron! You're a genius. My bike is riding like silk and I'm so excited to get back on the road. I'm so happy to be getting back to cycling with your talented bike mechanic skills in my corner. I called and scheduled an appt at the end of July and he's super booked up so I had to wait until this week to bring in my bike. The shop is clean and Cameron is super organized. I dropped off my bike at 9 am and it was ready for pick up by 11:15 am. I highly recommend My Bicycle and can't wait to go out tomorrow morning and put some time in the saddle. My shifters weren't working well and Cameron took them apart and reconditioned them and he got them to work so I don't have to replace them right now which is great because vintage parts are hard to find these days. Also, he did a quick fitting on my bike so my knee to shoe ratio is primo. He tuned up my rims, swapped my tires with the new ones I brought in with me, and he gave my bike an overall tune-up.
