My Computer Works was recommended to me by a friend. I had taken my old computer to Best Buy (as I had before) and was told they had found a virus and removed it. When I brought it home, nothing had changed, and I was extremely frustrated. Needless to say, I won't use the GEEK Squad again. My friend encouraged me to call MCW, whom she had been using for two years. From my first encounter with Leo, who gathered information about my computer issue, to working with Aaron, who finally got my old computer working, I couldn't have been happier. He was honest with me, telling me that my 11-year-old computer would probably only run for another year (I had already been babying it along). Instead of waiting until it stopped working altogether during a major project, I purchased a new one within days after our call. Once it arrived, I called MCW and set up an appointment to get everything transferred from the old to the new computer. I asked Aaron what I would need to make that transfer, and he told me the tools I would need. It's important to ask questions. At 10 am yesterday, Don called me right on schedule and worked SIX HOURS downloading, cleaning up, moving everything over, and making sure that everything worked properly. I had to buy a new computer and this company gave me a recommendation and got me a good deal. They FINALLY called me back to help me set it up (after many calls) and the thing with them is that when they call you, you had better be ready to work with them. They should set up appointments with the client for a mutually good time as I called them yesterday with several questions, waited all day for them to call me back and then called me in the evening when we were having dinner. I lost getting any help and today I have called them again and am waiting again for their call. They definitely need to get a scheduling system in place as making their clients wait all day for a call back is extremely aggravating and it is very hard to do anything else and have to stay home waiting for the call. Giving a specific time would greatly improve this business. I am ready to cancel this service and go with another company to help me as I cannot do anything right now as far as my computer goes. Extremely disappointed in this company. My computer had a blue screen so I called them. A very friendly man said yes we can help, he set up an appointment for the following day after getting my details and taking my credit card number. Next day noone calls noone shows! I called back. Another very helpful guy says so sorry was a mixup but absolutely a tech guy will be out tomorrow. Tomorrow comes same thing no call, no show! Is this a real company or a joke? Sadly, my experience with the "technician" that was assigned to me wasn't a great one. Although he seemed to be a nice person, he kept insisting it would take 2 hours to mount a 40" flat screen TV and a cable cover (which affixes on to the wall). Having done this a few times myself, this job should only take 40 minutes (I already had the mounting bracket, and I bought the cable cover because he technician said it would take him awhile to find it at a hardware store). My appointment was originally scheduled from 1 - 5pm on a Friday. But when I hadn't heard from the person by 4pm, I called the company to ask for a status update. First, they asked me to call the tech myself, but I insisted they reach out to him since they had scheduled the appointment. The tech finally called, and said he'd prefer to come by the next morning (even though he admitted he was "down the street" from me). So I rearranged my schedule to accommodate the tech. Then, I had to almost argue with him because he kept making excuses as to why it was a "tricky" install. I ended up having to direct the install (had him locate the stud in the wall, mounted the bracket to the tv, I held the tv while he drilled wood screws into the wall, and I had to place the cables in the cable cover. The cable cover needed to be cut down a bit, which the tech started to do over one of my fabric-covered chairs (with a razor). I asked him to cut over his tool bag so as not to ruin my furniture (and I politely let him know that if he damaged the chair he would be replacing it). The job took less than 45 minutes to complete. I was charged 1 hour's worth of work. Then I was asked to fill out the survey at the end of the contract - the tech stood and looked over my shoulder the entire time. I felt uncomfortable by the whole situation, and felt like I had no choice but to give a good rating. I will be getting one, maybe two tv's and will need to install...if the technician they sent is the same person I'd have to use, I will look for another company. read more
