Located in large shopping plaza with plenty of parking a few minutes from the Stub Hub Center. I recommend going early because they sometimes sell out of certain BBQ items. I decided to support a Black owned business today, so I went to My Fathers BBQ in Carson, CA. & I was extremely dissapointed. I ordered a Rib lunch and they charged me $15.00 for 2 ribs and a coblette of corn with a piece of toast.The ribs were very fatty as if they came out of an oven, and we all know that you can buy a slab for under $10.00 and smoke them yourself. So, I've gone to this place on several occasions and for whatever reason or another, this business always seem to run out of food that's on the menus. "Sorry sir but we're out of this. We're out of that. We're out of that too. That's dish wasn't made today. We no longer sell that." Now here it is a hot summer Friday and this restaurant has no beef ribs! They NEVER have beef ribs! It makes absolutely no sense why they keep running out of food. I can tell you why, it's because an employee of this business told me they're too cheap to prepare more volume of food because the fear of making too much and not selling it all combined with being afraid of taking a minor loss that they will purposely not prepare enough food and would rather run out instead of having plenty to last until closing time. The last 7 times I've come to this business, they were out of beef ribs. No potato salad. No beans. No this. No that! Yes the food is good but I'm tired of the nonsense. I've tried to be supportive of this business but I'm not ever going back there. You'll get your mouth all set for something just to be let down. So for now on, I'll just go give my money to a more professionally managed and established business like Lucille's BBQ. I promise you they will have what's on menu and I bet you they won't run out of beef ribs which in turn are actually better than My Fathers BBQ! Here's a word of advice to My Fathers BBQ.... I ordered the vegetarian chicken and vegetarian smoked sausage. It took a bit longer than the normal order because I understood they had to smoke it, but well worth the extra 15 mins. Next time I will call in my order ahead of arrival. The mac and cheese and cole slaw were also delicious. The staff was very helpful with my first order and stopped by our table to ask if we needed anything. In the interest of full disclosure, and as point of comparison for those who know it, when I wanted BBQ I would go to Bludso's in Compton. Unfortunately, that location has closed so I've been in search of a new place for those times my BBQ craving hits. First, I wasn't fond of the location of Bludso's, parking was horrible, customer service was strictly just ok, and the super small interior (suitable for ordering ONLY) was cramped and run down. Conversely, the pork ribs were always fallin' off the bone tender and meaty and the links were flavorful with a nice kick; the sides were just ok. Now, in comparison, MFBBQ is in a good location, a strip mall in Carson, so there's plenty of parking. The interior is clean, well kept, and there are several tables so eating in the restaurant is no problem. The customer service was excellent! The young man that took my order my pleasant and courteous. The young man that packaged my take-out order was also very friendly and polite. I loved that he called me over and showed me my order before bagging it up. About the food... I ordered a two meat combo (pork ribs and beef links) with mac 'n cheese and cabbage and greens for my sides. The ribs were okay. The flavor was good but they weren't as tender or meaty as I would've liked. I got the medium sauce on the side and it was pretty good; with enough of a kick to make my nose run (probably tmi ). Unfortunately, I didn't like the links much at all; the meat was an odd consistency to me, almost like a combination of a hot dog and lunch meat. The flavor didn't do much for me either; I ended up giving them away. I can't remember having a beef or chicken link from a BBQ joint that I didn't like, but I didn't like these. I'd even prefer the store bought Hillshire Farms beef hot links to these. I really enjoyed the mac 'n cheese; definitely homemade. The cabbage and greens were good also good; very flavorful. I love that they give u a toasted slice of Texas toast (as opposed to a slice of old style white "Wonder" bread); however, like others have mentioned, it would be better to wrap the bread separately in a piece of foil or plastic baggie instead of under the steaming hot meat in the styrofoam container. The heat from the meat and sides causes a lot of condensation so that nicely toasted piece of bread becomes limp & soggy. Also, I requested my sauce on the side so I can't imagine what my toast would've been like had the sauce been on the meat. Lastly, dessert. I had a sweet potato pie, you know the ones in the individual foil dish wrapped in plastic. It was nothing to write home about but decent. I also tried the pear cobbler...yes, pear, I'd never had it! I was going to have peach but they were out so I asked for a suggestion and one of the young men told me definitely, try the pear. In fact, he was so confident in his recommendation, he told me if I didn't like it I could come back and he'd give me another cobbler AND a slice of cake, of my choice, on him...a very nice gesture . Fortunately, the pear cobbler was really good (really liked the crust). Also, my co-worker got a slice of the red velvet cake and said it was really good. She said it was probably the moistest cake she's had in a long time. My gauge to whether she likes something is if she'd drive to buy it again and she said yes! Overall, MFBBQ was decent, with high marks for location, parking, customer service, mac 'n cheese, and dessert, okay marks for pork ribs, and, unfortunately, low marks for the beef links. If you're in the area, give MFBBQ, a try. Everyone's tastes are different and I think it's worth a try to see if it works for you. read more

The most amazing bbq I've tasted in a long long time! My friend ordered from there last weekend because she wanted to support Black-owned businesses and wow, are we lucky she did! The ribs, chicken, and brisket were all smothered in a delicious bbq sauce! I don't know how they even made regular old mac and cheese, Cole slaw, and potato salad ridiculously good! When I picked up the ribs I thought that they don't smell like bbq ribs are supposed to smell as I missed the smokiness. But then at home when I ate them I was surprised how juicy, tender and delicious they were. These are one of the best bbq ribs I ever ate. The meat quality was outstanding. They were "fall of the bone". Only 4 stars because of the price. If a half slab was 5 dollars cheaper this would be my new goto. Because of the price I will probably not return so soon. I've known about MFB for some time because my co-workers go here for lunch. They've always said that the food was pretty good and i should try it. I gave MFB a try and it was disappointing. I purchased the Brisket Chili Cheese Fries and Med Potato Salad. The fries were tossed with some kind of rub that might be used for the ribs (if it wasn't that, then I don't know what it was), either way, I didn't care for it. It gave the fries a funny taste. The chili was blah, it had no flavor. I've opened cans chili that had more flavor than this dish. AND THE BRISKET...this was a huge fail. It was dry...nuff said!! I tried to eat it because I spent my $$$ but I just couldn't do it. I tossed most of it. As for the potato salad, I didn't care for that either. It had no seasoning, bland...just mayo and a WHOLE LOT of green onions. That's potato salad?? The Asian lady who waited on me was really cool. When I tell you that it was worth waiting! I've been to this place 3 times and all 3 times, it was closed! I made sure this time it was open and worth the drive. The history is a brother and sister parents were from Alabama and Texas, so they brought both BBQ recipes together and it is truly amazing and just awesome! I can't complain about anything. This is my favorite BBQ place ever. I usually get brisket and ribs duo, the meat is so tender it falls off the bone. They have amazing banana cream pie or peach cobbler as desserts, they're always homemade and delicious. I make the trip out to Carson specifically for their food! There's no comparison.
