They sell engineered wood flooring without proper protective coating, which is why the price looks low -- but you end up paying much more later. As soon as a little water touched the floors, it penetrated straight into the wood and changed the color. We were shocked. We had just spent a lot of money on new flooring, and instead we ended up with damaged wood within days. Because of these issues, we couldn't even move into our home. We had to stay in an Airbnb while dealing with the problem. We spent over $4,000 on temporary housing because of the extremely poor-quality material they sold us. Discount Floor sells cheap, low-quality engineered wood with almost no protective coverage. We will never buy from them again, and I strongly do not recommend them to anyone. Save yourself the stress, the money, and the headache. Go somewhere else.

Robert's team led by Carlos laced the wood back together (they had to take up a larger part of the floor because the boards didn't line up perfectly on either side of the old repair) and were able to reuse many of our existing boards to do it, you can see the new wood over by the wall in the collage. They sanded the floors down and prepared three stain samples (bottom left photo of the collage) based on colors we picked from a fan book they loaned us. The bottom right photo is the finished product and we couldn't be happier with how the floors turned out! They took great care of our home, using plastic to cover the openings to the kitchen and all vents so the dust didn't end up anywhere it shouldn't, and cleaned up the remaining dust when they finished. The stain is Nutmeg from Duraseal on red oak hardwood, with a Satin finish polyurethane sealant.

At Ganahl's I was treated with little care by a guy behind a desk who had no trim suggestions except either fiber cement board or redwood. HOWEVER, at Imperial Annie immediately suggested Bodyguard's 5.5" trim made for exterior applications. (I like the Bodyguard trim because it had eased edges that looked more finished than straight lumber edges). Annie explained how the pine product is double primed, etc. She called her supplier right away to see if they d it in stock which they did. She also showed me samples she's ordered for another client so I could see the quality of the product. In other words she took the time to care about what I was looking for. At Ganahl's they really didn't care about what I actually needed. My husband might prefer the redwood option(because it's a more "noble" wood than pine,) but I definitely prefer the great service at Imperial which is where I'd go for any future hardwood and moulding needs.

BEWARE! Take my advice: Turn around and don't look back. I hired Rafi from My Flooring Guy in Huntington Beach to install expensive solid wood flooring. While the work done was adequate, I would NEVER recommend them due to a few serious issues. First, during installation, Rafi told me the floor needed leveling here and there and that it would be extra. So I agreed to it. However, a part of the floor in the living room clearly isn't level because you can see where the floor dips slightly beneath the baseboard. Second, his workers busted my wood shutters in the same room. I never noticed any of this until later. On top of that, he never finished the job! I told him I was going to have some new interior doors installed after the floor installation. Toward the end, he told me his foreman Caleb recommended they wait to install transition strips in the bathroom and laundry room until after the doors were installed. It didn't make complete sense to me (nor to the door installers), but I said okay and gave Rafi the final payment, trusting they would return to finish the job. Now, he doesn't respond to calls or text messages, or he tells me his workers will be out and they never show up. DO NOT make the same mistake and give these shady characters your business. As a footnote, most positive reviews you read for this company and the previous owner, Guy, are from BEFORE Rafi bought the company. Do your research and steer clear of My Flooring Guy in Huntington Beach. read more

I was extremely impressed with the work which was completed by "The Flooring Guy" team. My maple hardwood floors were installed about 13 years ago and like all floors, they had had their share of nicks, scratches, and other unsightly blemishes. Several contractors were willing to simply add a coat of varnish over the top, but only "The Flooring Guy" was willing to do this the right way, which was to strip the floor down to the wood, remove the blemishes. This was made more challenging because my floor used engineered wooding. I did not know this before, but this meant that the floor was actually made of a thin layer of actual maple wood laid on a foundation of compressed particle wood. What a learning experience. This meant that "The Flooring Guy" had to very carefully remove the 7 coats of varnish and hand sand the nicks and scratches, so as not to sand down to the particle board. This took a great deal of time and manual effort, but the results were simply incredible. My floor looks like brand new. "The Flooring Guy" restored to floor to it's original beauty. The finish on the floor was novice level work. Heavy tooling marks all over, smeared stain, splattered topcoat. That was my reason for the C-. Within a week many of the boards have detached and come up. I've also noticed: huge sections of the flooring were never fastened; the sanding is so bad that it's visibly lumpy in several areas; there are large gaps that were not filled and stained properly. And to top it off they had the highest quote of the bunch. The people working there are nice and pleasant, and very responsive. They offered to come back and redo it. But given the range and severity of problems I did not trust them to do further work. All around a complete waste of my time and money.

She let us take them home (3x4 foot) to see how they would look with paint and cabinets. Miguel came out and gave us a competitive quote. We later learned the real value was having installers that would do a quality job. We used a 10" engineered oak wood in the kitchen, family room, and dining room. They turned out great. He also installed the stairs with wood on the risers (kick plate). Jannet recommended to use a modern squared off step instead of a bull nose. It was a great suggestion and we really like it. Highly recommend. We will use them again in the future.
