These guys are amazing. I had been going to another mechanic who sold his shop, so I decided to look at my other options. I knew I needed a brake job and an oil change, but with a 200k mile Volvo, it could use more. I stopped by and spoke with David and his son. David gave me a realtime quote that was beyond fair. I had let David know that the car has quirks and other issues, but I was unwilling to fix them unless critical. I scheduled the appt, dropped my car off the day before, and got a call 10:30am the morning of my appt saying that the car was done and ready to be picked up. It came in $20 less than what was estimated. At no point did David and his team go fishing for problems (which certainly exist on a 200k mile Volvo). My Mechanic is our go to mechanic for everything. They do great work, are honest about what they can and can't do (and have suggestions on who to go to if it's out of their line of services - like body work) and are priced competitively. They even work with our budget by providing a priority list of what really needs doing and what can wait for a while. I wish I could give them 4.5 stars because they have been sometimes hard to reach by phone, although last time I was in they had a front desk person, so maybe that is improving. They are also closed on the weekends, which makes it hard for me to find time in my schedule to get the car worked on, but I appreciate that their staff get two solid days off per week. I just wish it was Sunday/Monday! I highly recommend them for your automotive needs! read more

I have to say, with all the 5 star reviews of My Mechanic, I'm not too terribly surprised that I had a great experience there today. Actually no, I am STILL blown away! I called up yesterday asking about whether they offered a free diagnostics check on cars that have their engine lights on. Beware - many places don't do this for free! I went to Firestone to get an oil change and was told it would be $200. And I have a Firestone credit card! I get a discount there. SIGH. Anyway - the man on the other end of the phone said in a polite tone, "yep!" So I let him know I'm headed his way. Free is the best price ever! I literally pass other mechanics and auto body shops to get to this location. Having read their reviews on Yelp I was confident that this was the place to go. I pull in, I'm greeted by a friendly mechanic, tell him my problem and he quickly gets to work. In addition to working on the car and trying to figure out it's issues, he goes into great detail with me about how the test is done. I even stand there and watch him do it! He's very thorough and the entire test takes about 20 minutes. Just as he's closing the hood of my car he spots a tube that is broken. He mentions that it's not important and is certainly not the reason the engine light was on. He says he'll be right back and about 15 seconds later he's back under the hood repairing this tube. Now I'm thinking, "Ok... so I hope he doesn't charge me for the diagnostics check because I was told over the phone it was free. But... now how much is this tube thingy gonna cost?" From what he explained and how simple it looked I assumed it'd be cheap, but still! With the tube replaced and the hood shut back down he says, "Alrighty! You're set. Have a great night!. Let me just wash my hands here and move that car for you so you can back up more easily." Really? REALLY? He spent over 30 minutes in total on my car. The test was free, I get it. But what about that tube? What about the other amount of time and effort he spent doing something unexpected? I literally drove off with my problems solved and didn't have to pay a cent. These guys are amazing. One of the best shops in Seattle as far as I'm concerned. I almost feel like I'm ripping them off whenever I get service done here... which kind of made hesitate to write a review. They really have gone above and beyond for me both times I have brought my Camry in. They don't BS me when they easily could have... another local chain had told me I needed so much work done it would have totaled out the car. I took it back to My Mechanic to get the rear brakes replaced, and he quite honestly told me "I don't know what they were talking about - your car is fine. I took my 2003 Ford Escape with 184k miles for an oil change and to discover why the check engine light came on intermittently. The diagnostic code revealed a misfire in one of my cylinders. It was suggested to take a wait and see approach before moving forward with more costly repairs. After driving the car on the freeway the misfiring became more apparent. I took the car back and proceeded with the needed repair. When working on a high mileage car when the opportunity present itself to do an invasive repair it's prudent to change out other parts which may need replacement sooner rather than later, which is what Dave did for me. I had to replace a coil and spark plug and while the repair was being done the other spark plugs were replaced too. I could not be more satisfied with the knowledge of Dave and the reasonable cost for the parts and labor. Nobody enjoys the cost of having their cars worked on. It is reassuring to know that My Mechanic is knowledgably and reasonable for your auto needs. Also, Dave is one of last good guys out there! read more

I had gone here previously a long time ago when I lived a couple blocks away, I remember they had been prompt and saved me money on all my previous occasions even finding less expensive parts and reducing their initial assessment of the cost. This shop is a complete joke. Had an alternator replaced, failed not even a month later. Took my truck in to have a master cylinder replaced. They couldn't bleed it and gave me my truck back with almost no peddle pressure and a bent peddle... previously just had a minor leak that was no issue and was given a car that could barely drive. Up sold me saying my slave bleeder screw would break, whatever, put a new slave on, come to find out they ordered the wrong part, didnt say anything and tried to GLUE my clutch line together... had to pay alot of money for a REAL mechanic to fix the damage they cause. Dont let these monkeys touch your vehicle, the prices sound nice but you'll get nothing but cheap parts that break put on with cheap work ethic. Take this as a warning, or find out for yourself, choice is yours. read more

I took my 2009 Audi to My Mechanic, on a recommendation from a friend. The car had a front alignment issue that a different mechanic said was a problem with the chassie that they couldn't fix. Dave did a thorough analysis and determined that the only thing needed was a tire rotation. He saved me a lot of money and a lot of angst. If you're looking for an expensive mechanic with a fancy showroom, keep looking. But if you want a trustworthy mechanic who will do a great job at a fair price, I highly recommend these guys. read more

Really disappointed in my experience here. I went here because I have a friend who had gone here a number of times at the prior location and said that the owner was honest and reliable. I had also brought my girlfriend's car here a number of years ago and the repair had been good. I brought my car in because the maintenance light and brake light were both on. I basically asked them to look at the car and tell me what needed to be fixed. They did so and quoted me a price for $800 for a number of things including rear brakes. I said okay and brought the car in. I got a call from the mechanic saying that they had discovered that my battery was low and would replace it without charging me the labor if I wanted. I appreciated that and said yes. Towards the end of the day before I went to pick up the car I called them and they said that they would need to work on it a little longer. They had replaced the brakes and battery but that there was a sensor that they had tried to replaced and it had broken on the wheel bearing or something and they would need to get another one. . I needed the car to leave for the weekend the next day and they said it was fine to drive so i picked it up with the arrangement that I would bring it back next week for them to put the sensor in. I went ahead and paid the $800 even thought the work wasn't done because I assumed they were honest and would do it right next week. I brought my car back in next Friday and left it for them to put the sensor in. When I arrived I was presented with another bill for $300 dollars, which unsurprisingly, I wasn't happy about given that I did not know it was coming. I was under the impression that I was bringing the car back to finish the repairs I had paid for. When I objected to the three hundred dollar extra repair they insisted that they had told me this previously and then started in on "look at the shit I have to deal with, I fix people's cars and they try to cheat me". At this point I lost my shit which I'm not proud of, but I'm not dishonest and I am not okay with being called a liar because I won't pay the three hundred dollar extra bill you just sprung on me. They ended up telling me just to take the car and go. After I have had time to calm down I think what probably happened is that the mechanic thought that when he told me that the wheel bearing broke the sensor that he thought he was explaining that an additional repair would be necessary. However, without A) knowing cars or B) being psychic I don't know without being told that additional repairs are necessary or that it will cost more money. Neither fact was ever mentioned to me prior to being presented with the additional bill. The irony is that if the owner hadn't implied I was lying and they had calmly explained to me what had happened I probably would have paid the three hundred as I thought they were good and honest in our first couple interactions and I wanted pretty badly to find a good mechanic I could just stick with. I left two stars instead of one because I think they may actually be honest, just not socially aware enough to realize that other people don't know what they do about cars and that if they don't tell them directly they won't know additional repairs and money is required (although if this keeps happening I'm not sure how they haven't figured it out yet). Some people may be trying to pinch pennies and cheat them but most of us just want to deal with a mechanic that is skilled, honest, and treats them with dignity and respect. And in that last category they failed miserably. I won't go back and I'll make sure none of my friends do either. This is my experience. Take from it what you will. read more

I wanted to like this place as much as everyone else who had been here(when I made the appointment with them, they had nothing but 5 start reviews). But honestly, if I could give this place negative stars, I would. I brought my car in to get my timing belt replaced--I told them what needed to be done. So I bring my car in when they tell me to, and the place looks like someone robbed them the night before. Parts thrown sloppily on shelves, placed probably hasn't been cleaned in a good year or so. I leave, and hear nothing back from them, all day. Finally I called about 10 minutes before closing and asked them what was going on with my car. The guy told me that yes, in fact i DID need my belt replaced. Obviously, that is why it was brought in in the first place... He also told me that even though my car had been there since 7am, they hadn't worked on it at all. Great... They also said they didn't have enough time to work on it the next day, so I would have to wait a few days to pick up my car. Well I am a mother who works full-time, so that isn't gonna work. So I tell them I will be picking up my car in the morning and bringing it back when they have time to work on it. Go to pick it up with my 5month old daughter, and the guy is sitting on the phone for 20 minutes. Doesn't even make eye contact with me. Finally he gets off the phone, no apology, and pulls out his mess of papers to pencil me in. All I can do it stare at the YELP plaque they have proudly hanging on the wall thinking about how they didn't deserve it. The guy finally hands me my key and I explain to him that my car is no where outside and I didn't see it in the bay. So he asks the mechanic where it is and he replies"up on the hill by the church". The guys tells me where to go fetch my car and looks at my baby saying he will watch her. Umm...no. Did I mention it was 30 degrees outside? Needless to say I trekked all the way out to Federal Way where a friend suggested. They charged me $150 less than My Mechanic quoted, had wonderful customer service, and the place was extremely clean! Hopefully this will be a wake-up call to My Mechanic, so they can get back to their 5 star service. Although I will never be one to find out if they do or not. read more

This place is about as cheap as it gets and David, the owner, is as nice as they come and will chat your ear off if you let him. Initially I thought I'd found the diamond in the rough but... I've used My Mechanic 3 times: First time: I brought my car there to have the breaks replaced and a tune up. It was done timely and cheaply (yea!) but almost immediately my breaks had a shuttering whenever I applied them. I took my car back 3 different times and each time it was still there. I finally took it to Meineke down the street. Second time: About 6 months later I took the same car back to My Mechanic. I needed a scheduled 100,000 mile timing belt replacement (and part of that process is to replace the water pump directly behind the timing belt since you are right there). It's an expensive process and I really liked David so I thought I'd give him the benefit of the doubt. Again, it was done timely and cheaply but one year later, while driving back from a road trip, my car broke down in Idaho because the water pump blew. Two days in Coeur d'Alene and $500 later, the Idaho mechanic showed me that My Mechanic had not properly sealed the water pump when they had replaced it a year prior. Third time: I'm trying to sell my 2nd car so I took it to My Mechanic for a little TLC: a quick tune, an oil change, and fix one windshield wiper. I dropped the car off 3 and a half months ago and have yet to receive one single phone call regarding my vehicle even though I've called multiple multiple times and even stopped by 3 different times for an update. Exasperated, finally today I took the bus over, took my keys back and drove off with my car without saying a word. If you to talk it up with a really nice guy for a reasonable price, My Mechanic is your place. If you want to get your car fixed, go somewhere else. I know I will. read more

I wanted to be happy... I wanted to call this a great find... I wish I had gone elsewhere... My husband called up last week and made an appointment for his 2000 Chevy truck with 180k miles... the clutch is going... it's been +70k since the last one was put in... it sure didn't owe us anything... and there was no question. They couldn't fit us in until this week (4 business day wait)... OK... they are busy... they would only give a general quote of "about $600 - 800... hubby was skeptical and I was worried, but we (sigh) pressed on... Midas quoted $1300... this was in the "too good to be true" range... oh how I wish we kept calling... 1 star knocked off because they never ordered the parts / looked to see if they could get the parts / cared if they could get the parts... "sorry, can't get the parts today, should be able to fix it tomorrow"... after a 4 day wait??? If it needed more parts, or it was a different problem once they got in there I could understand... but it was the CLUTCH KIT they couldn't find??? 2 stars knocked off for the final price - $1100... that's right $300 - 500 more then the bogus quote... still less than Midas and worth the 40 mile trip but given the number of options in the area we will keep looking for a go to place to call "our mechanic"! read more

I have heard of this place through word of mouth and decided to go for it. I needed a 90K mile maintenance, oil change, and possibly a timing belt replacement (all of these other places told me of horrible demises met from not replacing timing belts). My Mechanic instead told me that I didn't need a timing belt until at least 105K ( "If Acura says it will last until 105K miles, it *will* last until then!" ). That saved me quite a bit right there. He also said that he would only charge on the repairs that were actually needed. As it was, my car was in pretty good shape. Only the EGR valves needed a good cleaning (which the Acura dealership had passed over before). All in all, the whole thing cost me about 2/3 as the other places I called, and my car now purrs! Lastly, Dave, the head mechanic, will tell you everything you ever wanted to know and more about how your car is currently behaving. You will be more aware of the state of your car afterwards. Here's my latest My Mechanic story. I bring in my 13 year old 4Runner, with 233,000 miles on the original clutch. It's a running joke in my circle that I brag about how many miles I've gotten out of this clutch. I'm bragging about it now. That said, I had them do an oil change and to replace the rear shocks - they said that the shock replacement wasn't likely to improve the ride and I shouldn't have it done (they were right, as usual - I did it anyway, and didn't notice an improvement) - I asked them to look at the clutch. Dave said that it was on the farthest reaches of adjustability, and was at the end of it's life. I asked if I should replace it. Dave says, "Hmmm... I think you could get another ten thousand miles out of it..." Awesome. *** Fast forward to a year later. Not only did I get the 10,000 miles out of the clutch that was promised, I got the car up to 285,000 before the clutch finally slipped while shifting on the highway. That's 50k of bonus miles because Dave and co. didn't want to change a clutch before its time. I guarantee that any other shop would have recommended changing the clutch ages ago. Moral of the story: this place mints customers for life through experiences such as these. read more

Love this place!! So here's the thing... it's a little run down looking but the service and honesty you receive is amazing. It's just the owner and a couple of guys who run the shop, but they are the most honest, down to earth mechanics you'll ever meet. I had wanted my starter replaced and David (the owner) was skeptical if that's what it was. So he ran a full check on the electrical system to be sure (for free) and agreed it was the starter. So he threw it up on the lift, swapped it really quickly and had me on my way for barely any cash. The one thing you have to be careful of is David's customer's love him. So if you catch him while one is there, he gets to talking. And if you're chatty, he'll get to talking with you too. So either let him know you're on a time line (which he'll follow) or be ready to talk. HIGHLY recommend him. read more

My car is back! I just paid off my car a month ago and wouldn't you know it... it started sputtering and coughing while i was driving down the freeway. So I took it to the dealer and let them take a look. Well about 8 hours later I called them and they said they had bad news and quoted me $4,500 in repairs. So I turned to Yelp. I looked up a mechanic in my area and My Mechanic turned up w/ 5 stars. So I took it to David. He calls me 2 days later saying that the problem was something that the dealer hadn't even noticed,he gave me a quote of $450 and said he would take care of it. My car runs GREAT!
