i had issues with my engine misfiring, when i took it here they diagnosed the issue pretty quickly (spark plugs needed replacing plus a couple other things), they were super open about the process and the pricing, and they were very nice the whole time! some highlights: 1) they test drove my car multiple times before i picked it up to double check everything was running smooth, 2) they topped off my gas for free, 3) they discounted me on labor because two of the repairs they had to make were in the same spot in my car, and 4) without charging me for it or even mentioning it, they fixed my glove compartment that didn't close properly! i'm very happy with their service, specifically with taylor and anthony. read more

BE AWARE OF UPCHARGING DIAGNOSTIC TESTS + POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE I had a very negative and stressful experience at this shop. I took my car in for an issue I clearly explained: broken hoses due to visible coolant leaks onto pavement and spraying coolant everywhere under the hood. Despite this, they insisted on performing expensive diagnostic tests (compression leak, dye test, and pressure test) that I thought were unnecessary. They gave me an estimate of $750 to replace the 2 broken heater hoses. I told them I'd call them back to authorize repairs after I speak with the mechanic who had replaced the radiator hoses in August 2024. This mechanic quoted me $225 to replace all 4 heater hoses, since they tend to age together. When I called Lake City Autoworks back, they told me the work had already been done even though I never authorized it. Instead of acknowledging they had made a mistake by completing work I never authorized them to do, they gave me an ultimatum: pay the $750 or allow them to reverse the repair and reinstall the broken hoses, but I was still stuck with $500 for diagnostic fees, which was never discussed or mentioned to me upfront. I tried to contest the fees, especially because compression leak and dye test are usually done when suspecting head gasket failures, and pressure test is usually done when there might be occult leaks. My car showed clear, visible coolant leaks, so I thought a visual inspection was all that was needed to confirm the diagnosis, especially since I could see/photograph the broken hoses without getting underneath the car. Nothing I said mattered, so my car was being held hostage by their 2 ridiculous choices. I had to ask a friend to speak on my behalf because I was completely frustrated and pushed into fight-flight-freeze mode. Whether it was because I threatened to leave a 1-star review and report them to the BBB, or because my friend was a male, but they offered to zero out my account. Through my friend, I was able to tell them I was willing to pay the $225 (though my friend relayed "$250") as quoted by another mechanic, but I wanted to speak to the service writer and the owner, after we all cooled down, because I wanted to find out what happened that caused unauthorized work to proceed and whether they routinely upcharge by adding unnecessary diagnostic fees. Surprisingly, they shut down all further communications, stating "we're good, and we've moved on." In essence, when I requested to hold off on my repairs until I could speak to my mechanic, they ignored my request, and when I requested to discuss what happened to cause all emotions to fly sky high, they declined my request. In between, there were some shady business. I would NOT recommend this shop to anyone. They lack transparency, engage in upselling unnecessary services, and provide poor customer service. I went to them once for a repair that they couldn't find the parts for, and for an oil change ($116, the most expensive oil change I ever had on my 1998 Camry). They do have good reviews and a few not-so-good-ones. Just be aware: this type of experience is potentially in the mix. I hope you catch them on a good day! I did a little price-shopping on a repair (replace back-up sensor system) and found their price to be very competitive (maybe a couple bucks more but I couldn't walk home from the other shop so the convenience was a win). My only complaint is that as a small neighborhood business it occasionally suffers from its own success and sometimes it can take at least a few days to get an appointment. This shop is a friendly shop but there are a couple issues I have when I took my car here, it took me getting my car inspected by another mechanic a year later to realized the issue. Around last year I came in for my car to get inspected due to vibration when accelerating, and I suggested that it might be an engine mound because I already had work done on this car by this very same shop, without the issue being resolved. They decided to check for themselves which was ideal because they are professional and they ended up confirming it was the engine mound. They also replaced other parts for my car before but it didn't get rid of the vibrations when accelerating which led me to believe it was the engine mound. Today I went to a mechanic to get my car inspected and they pointed out that the engine mound wasn't put on properly and wasn't secured/tightened. I spend over $1,000 at "lake city auto work" just for the part to not be put on correctly. This was the second time I came to "lake city auto" where I had other work done to the car, and spent quite a bit of money, and I find it odd that they would over charge a returning customer for work that hasn't been done properly. The new mechanic replaced the part that "lake city auto work" apparently replaced and now the car drives like new. In conclusion, I'm disappointed that "Lake city auto work" would tell me they replaced a part that has not been done properly which caused me to think the car had other issues and caused me a lot of money due to lack of quality of work and misdiagnosing. It also makes me suspicious what other things they done on my car that hasn't been done correctly, because even after the first time I got my car worked on there, the car still would have slight issues which caused me to come a second time to get engine mound to get "replaced". Even after getting engine mound replaced, "lake city auto work" suggested to replace spark plugs, and coolant temp sensor for another $1,000 but I'm glad I didn't take them on that offer because the new shop was able to fix that issue the engine mound, coolant temp sensor and spark plug for well under $1,000. Despite all these issues, at least they was friendly about it... read more

I was recommended Lake City Autoworks by an acquaintance, and I am glad I decided to go. I called on a Monday and was able to get a Tuesday morning appointment for my AC that wasn't working. I dropped off my car on Tuesday morning and they were able to identify the issue very fast and shared an estimate with me. Because it was the same issue I had a couple years ago, they recommended I call the last shop I got my car serviced at to see if there was a warranty. The warranty from my last shop had expired, but I appreciated the thought of the Lake City Autoworks employee to recommend this, in case it could save me some money. They ordered the part and began service on the car once it arrived at noon. The service didn't take as long as expected, and they really hooked it up for me. They are right by a Starbucks, so I just walked there and did work there while they serviced my car. I appreciated how communicative the employee I worked with was, and it really seemed they had my best interests in mind - not making the most they could out of me. I've been using them for 2 years now, once my 2 years of complimentary Toyota service was done. Since I work from home, I don't put the amount of miles for the next oil change in the amount of time specified on the next service sticker. They let me know one time to go by mileage instead, which saves me money in the long term, by not bringing in the Tacoma more frequently than necessary. I had my first non-oil change service for uneven brake wear, and the estimate was accurate, and the truck drove better. I have been coming here for over 20 years, The service is always top notch as are the repairs. I now come from Everett to bring my cars in for everything from oil changes to repairs. Karl and his staff always seem to fit me in even I on last minute emergencies which is a life saver most times. Recently I dropped off my truck as the Water pump was about to die and not only did they get me in right away but they looked at the other elements around the water pump and replaced the Hoses and Thermostat since they had over 100,000 miles on them, if they had not thought of it they most likely would have gone out on my recent trip to eastern Washington. I've come here twice for oil changes and have had them completed quite efficiently and always with very friendly service...But just FYI, I definitely can't speak for anything more complicated than an oil change. I appreciate how much effort they put into getting the job done when they know you're waiting for your car, rather than coming back at a later time. It's nice that they have chairs in their office especially for people who would rather wait for their car than have to find someone to drive them back/forth. The only thing that is a little bit of a bummer is that they are definitely a smidge more expensive for just an oil change, but they do take a look at your car as a whole and let you know if there's anything of concern. For someone who doesn't know very much about cars, I'm grateful for someone to give me an honest opinion and do a good job in the process without being condescending or pushy. For instance, the first time, they pointed out that I needed new tires pretty soon (having not replaced my tires in over 5 years) but they didn't at all try and pressure me into getting them there. This last time they mentioned I may need a new belt the next time I need an oil change but said I should probably have that looked over when the time comes rather than immediately getting it changed. When my tenant who is in her early 20's said she had an accident,her car was towed to these guys, and they gave her a huge estimate I assumed they were messing with a naive girl. She'd walked away from the accident, how bad could it be. She said they were very nice but I told her I'd call and see what was up. Then I saw a picture of the car and I'm surprised she walked away. I talked to Carl who could not have been nicer. He said that he could work on the car but it wasn't worth it. He did the opposite of trying to gouge, he wanted her to not have them work on it at all. My old car was overheating and both LCA and I did some troubleshooting. They put a lot of effort into figuring out what was wrong with the car, and finally replaced the head gasket and other necessary parts. I saw the engine block when the head was off, and it was very rusty inside they cylinders, and they did a fantastic job cleaning it all up and getting everything sealed up. The car runs like it never did before and I am sure happy. I brought every one of our vehicles in and they did a great job every time. The only vehicle I didn't bring in, caught fire and burned to a crisp, and they would have figured it out quickly if I took it in for servicing, and I would still have that vehicle. I am inspired to add my experience at Lake City Autoworks. I have been using their services since about 1991. As a woman, I had been had by mechanics before; so I had acquired enough understanding to know when I was being treated honestly. I always have been by both Ron Hand, the owner, and Karl the manager. Before Karl was the manager, he was the lead mechanic. When my older car needed an engine replaced, he found a rebuilt engine for it. Fortunately, it was on warranty because after installation, there was a problem. The same thing happened with the next. The third engine worked as it was supposed to. Karl only charged me labor for 1 engine even though he had installed 3. That in itself is remarkable, but the thing I remember most is his kindness throughout an experience that must have been very frustrating for him. I agree that it is possible to get an oil change for less money, but I find it worth it to go to Lake City Auto works because, even though I am on a very tight budget, based on their thoroughness and my history with them, I trust them. read more
