My Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini started acting up on me last night: I couldn't turn off the screen no matter how many times I pushed the power button. Tried taking out the battery, thinking the phone needed a reboot, but then I couldn't power the phone up, so it seemed like there was something wrong with the power button. Also, plugging the phone in didn't show the phone as charging. However, taking the battery out and putting it back in made the phone vibrate and I would see the boot-up screen briefly. Took it in to one place in Santa Monica, and the tech there said that "there were too many variables" for him to figure out what the problem might be. Saw the great reviews here on Yelp for MyTechWorld and decided to give them a try. The tech there tried replacing my battery with another Samsung battery that he had, but that didn't make a difference. Also saw that the phone didn't charge when plugged in. But he noticed the phone trying to boot up right away when the battery was taken out & put back in, so he got the idea that maybe the power button had some sort of short in it. Took the phone apart while I waited, and he didn't have a replacement power button, so what he did was take one of the volume control buttons and substituted it in for the power button. Voila! The phone now booted up properly, and would turn on & off. He's going to order a replacement button and I will bring it back next week to have it installed (he left the volume button in there as a workaround so I can turn the phone off & on). About an hours worth of work, and he charged me $60. I was very impressed with his troubleshooting skills, and happy that I didn't have to purchase a new phone. The shop is located in a strip mall on the northwest corner of Sepulveda Blvd & Berryman Ave. There's a 7-11 & a Yoshinoya in the same strip mall, and there is decent parking available. read more

My desktop PC stopped turning on completely. I've checked the individual components, shorts, etc., but nothing would bring it back to life. Finally, I brought it over to these guys, and they were able to determine the very specific cause of failure. It was the memory controller on the motherboard. They were able to fix it and save me some money, where a less qualified repair shop would have replaced the whole motherboard. Extremely sketch owner. Dropped phone in the pool and gave him my phone. Told him to do whatever it takes before I come back from work and said I'll be back in 2 hours then said one. Came 3 hours plus later and it's obvious he's been tampering with my phone which was cool. Then for some magical reason, my phone's passcode got undone and turned off. Asked him what happened and he said I don't know. Your telling me dropping any iPhone in a pool then replacing some of the interiors cracks your passcode open and turns it off!?! read more

I needed a screen replacement for my iPhone and they were nice, quick, and did it for a great price ($60 for a 5S). Unfortunately, the screen had a weird green cast to it and the colors were duller. I called the next day after realizing it was a big problem for all the photography I handle on my phone, and they replaced it for free and added a screen protector. I stumbled upon My Tech World minutes after getting my phone's screen fixed elsewhere. My phone wasn't working (because it was disabled too many times when it was broken) and I couldn't call myself an uber. When I entered this store, they were kind enough to let me use their phone. The employees were more than accommodating, kind, and understanding. It was then I discovered their price for a screen repair was significantly less expensive than what I had paid for. Anyway, the man I presumed to be the owner heard of my dilemma and offered to connect my phone to iTunes so it would at least be usable- all free of charge!
