This Thai place is really close to my house so I felt like it was finally the time to try it out. My Thai is located on South Street. It has a ton of American style Thai food which is an interesting fusion. We walked in during a non busy time. The inside looked very interesting with its tables covered in cloth. I started with a Thai ice coffee which didn't seem very strong in my opinion. Seemed like there was more evaporated milk than caffeine. We both ended up getting Thai food that wasn't on the menu. I got a 2 star (spicy) red coconut curry. It was the perfect amount of spice (just head spice not tongue spice). I really liked how it had eggplants in the dish. The chicken was cut up into the perfect size. The dish came with rice and a piece of steamed broccoli. For dessert, we shared a coconut ice cream. I really liked how thick it was. It really was an ok ice cream. It wasn't the best flavor but the thickness definitely made up for it. I gave this place a low rating because the waiter was so slow with our order. People who came before us got their dish before we did. I almost got late to the airport because of how long it took. I felt like the waiter didn't even hurry up to get me my credit card back when I said I'm going to miss my flight. read more

My Thai has been my biggest restaurant revelation of 2023. I have had a handful of meals at My Thai this year and I left each meal with a big smile on my face. I've heard some call it their happy place, and I understand why. My Thai has an extensive menu and I've been able to sample a lot of it. I'll just give the highlights. But first, I'll say that the service is outstanding. If you have Juan as your waiter you will get excellent service, and he will be able to answer any question you have about the menu. Or any question about the Philadelphia Eagles. My favorite item on the menu is the crispy duck entrée. Where has this meal been all my life? I never even imagined duck could be so good, and they fry it perfectly and slice it for you. And you can pair it with either a spicy or sweet sauce. An amazing dish! My favorite appetizer is the chicken satay. They are grilled chicken skewers served with a peanut sauce. Where has peanut sauce been all my life? It's so delicious and pairs perfectly with the chicken. My Thai also has a large selection of soups. The soups are so flavorful. A unique flavor I haven't tasted elsewhere. I've tried a beef soup, a chicken soup and a shrimp soup and all were equally outstanding. Of course they also have spring rolls and dumplings that are top of the line. If you happen to be craving steak, they have you covered there as well. You can get tender filet mignon cooked to temperature that will make you wonder if you are in a steakhouse. My Thai doesn't slack off when it comes to dessert either. You can get chocolate cake, apple pie, or a sweet cream crepe. I know people that swear by the crepe, but I go back and forth between the cake and apple pie with a scoop of ice cream. Each is a top restaurant dessert. I leave My Thai completely stuffed every time. It has been a staple on South Street for many years. I have really missed out by not discovering it years ago. Visiting this little spot feels like stepping back in time to the 18th century in the best possible way. The drinks are tasty, and the food - so so good! My favorite is the duck, but the standard fare is extremely yummy, too. The helping sizes are generous, and the price points on the large menu ensures there is something for everyone! They always ask what degree of heat you would like and they customize it very well. I like to get enough fiber each day so I appreciate they have brown rice on the menu. I just wanna say thank you for the aunties who make this soup, the pumpkin, and coconut milk soup i'm gonna give you a personal Michelin star for over 10 years that I've been having the soup. It has never wavered. It always taste the same every time I come through Philly I stop I get my soup you guys make sure it's packed tight I take the 3 Hour Drive upstate and it's still warm your soup is so authentic it taste like I'm on vacation while I'm eating it. Aside from the service which was excellent, the food was a very disappointing experience. I ordered the spring rolls, beef massaman curry and sticky rice with mango. The spring rolls lacked any flavor or blend of spices, the sticky rice with mango was very soupy and I did not make it through the beef massaman curry. Didn't have a great experience with the food; primarily a take-out spot for Thai food - very quiet on the weekdays even during prime dinner times. Atmosphere: Nice interior decor, feels relatively clean, and quite spacious - maybe seating for around 30 people. It was completely empty when I went in at around 7pm on a weekday, which made me a bit hesitant. Food: I tried their My Thai soup (tomato, coconut curry), but the texture was just off. You could taste some of the tomato peels, and it just was a strange experience. I've definitely had better thai soups before, which makes me hesitant to try their other Thai food Overall: 2 / 5 - price was decent, but the Thai soup texture was very strange. Went on a Monday so it was quiet- it was like a portal to Thailand which I was happy to journey to from this corner with typical convenient stores. If I could give six stars, I would. This place was absolutely unreal. The prices would make you expect a fairly average experience, but you get so much more than what you pay for. The food is unbelievable, and there are so many options it's very easy to find something you'll love. The staff is also knowledgeable and can help make recommendations based on what you like. They can also help you make sure you don't order something too spicy to handle! The desserts are really great too. I got to try several of them. The creme brûlée was probably the best I've ever tried. The flavor was so good. The ice cream was great too. I got to try the ginger and the matcha. I'm not a huge fan of tea so I didn't think I would like it, but it was great. My fiancé and I ended up going there twice while we were in Philadelphia. It was too good to pass up. Went here with my fiancé and friend Jeffery from the coin show here in Philadelphia. We came here on 8/16/2018 & 8/17/2018. My fiancé, Rachel and I are from Kansas. This place is so incredibly good we came two nights in a row. Their Long Island ice tea is very tasty and unique; we believe it has a nice splash of OJ. Hands down the won ton soup is wonderful with delicious chicken broth, won ton/dumplings with pork meat, mushroom and cabbage. The absolute best is the peanut sauce with spring rolls. I could eat the peanut sauce with vanilla bean ice cream. The cream brûlée is INCREDIBLE!! 10/10!! We tried several different dishes and spent nearly $300 in two days (We got a LOT of food). Sad we won't be back for a while but hope this restaurant continues to please others and prosper. read more

Listen guys! The purpose of this review is to get attention from the owners. I love this place and go inside frequently and the food is excellent. However, they are using styrofoam and plastic bags for their takeout. This is totally unacceptable and needs to be attended to. There are many better ways to deliver take out food that do not kill our planet. Please!!! I love Thai food, but because I'm Singaporean, I am also picky and have high standards, and this place definitely raised my eyebrows, not necessary in a bad or good way, just, it was an interesting kind of Thai. High yield: Home made Thai food, a little too saucy, and flavors are confusing, but gorgeous ambiance and courteous staff. Food: Alright, so the food here was definitely Southeast Asian. Was it Thai? I am not sure. Everything felt a little too saucy and wet for my liking- Northern Thai is maybe the difference? I felt eveyrthing had too much water in it and thus flavors were washed out. Thai food is supposed to be exotic and a delicate blend between the spices. This place just was watery everything and felt like sauce was what happened, rather a good marinated flavored roasted meat. We got a fish dish and a pad thai. Pad thai was fair, but the fish was definitely too watery and lost the Thai basil coconut flavor it was supposed to have gone for. The spring rolls had lettuce if I remembered. It was all a strange combination. Decor: Inside was colorful for sure- I remember the slightly gaudy pink fake flowers at each table and the homey little lamps alongside the window. Thai decorations and colorful was what I remember about this place Service: Good enough. Servers made suggestions, took your plates on time, etc. Younger people were the attendants. The decor is very homey and it feels like you're in a small house. They serve alcohol. However, the food is OK. During the week, they have a $13 three course meal ($16 on Friday and the weekend). I had the wonton soup, vegetable dumplings, and spicy chicken. Honestly, everything had the texture like it was frozen, particularly the wontons and dumplings. The vegetables and chicken in the spicy chicken dish looked to be straight out of bags of frozen vegetables. Went for dinner on a Wednesday night and the place was empty. A lot of people stopped in for take out though. I have been to Thailand so I'm always looking for a new Thai place to try, and My Thai is in my neighborhood. I had a Thai iced tea, good but in a very small glass. I started with Tom Ka soup which was excellent. For my entree I wanted Pad Se Ew, but that wasn't on the menu. In fact many Thai food staples seemed to be missing. I decided to try their Pad Thai instead. It was solid and had a good amount of spice. Not the huge portion you usually get, I was actually able to eat almost all of it. I asked if they mango with sticky rice for dessert, but the waitress said they only have it when mango is in season. I was given a coupon that I can re-use for 15% off. That was nice, and the service was great. I plan on becoming a regular because its so convenient. read more

Had a chicken wanton soup, one veggie egg roll, and a spicy chicken stir-fry with veggies. Loved the sauce for the stir-fry but the veggies were very American, which was disappointing. read more

I've continued to order from My Thai frequently and it's about time I bump up my score. I've tried quite a few things on the menu and my go to's are the Pad Thai, Pad See Ew (not on the menu, but they'll make it using the Pad Thai noodles), Tom Yum Soup (spicy, lemongrass-y deliciousness), red curry and green curry. My previous review knocked the Pad Thai for being average, but I've since learned to ask for a mix of chicken and beef (about $2 extra, but worth it) and to ask for a higher spice level. The other items I mentioned are perfect as is. I still knocked them down one star because I've tried a few of their appetizers, all of which were fine, but none felt worth their price in terms of taste or the amount of food you get. I should also mention that I still have not eaten in the restaurant, my experiences are purely with takeout. read more

As my stomach starts its predictable pre-lunch growling, I can't stop thinking about the delicious meal I had last night at My Thai. Dinner kicked off with a shared plate of steamed dumplings in three varieties: veggie, shrimp and pork. The dumplings were all topped with some crunchy fried garlic, a nice touch. My date and I were under the impression that the place was a BYO, but we were quickly informed that there was indeed a liquor license. We made our bottle of brew disappear and ordered some Sapporos instead. I'm almost positive that's Japanese for Coors Light. No matter; a light beer went just fine with the spicy flavors of our main courses. For me, that included a heaping plate of chicken and shrimp with baby corn, onions, peppers and cashews in a mildly spicy brown sauce (him-ma-pan shrimp and chicken). White rice was served on the side, as well as some steamed veggies which included broccoli, carrots and cabbage. The extra veggies were a nice touch and a welcome alternative to the rice, which my boyfriend gladly accepted. His pot of chicken and veggies in a lemongrass scented broth was far hotter and more complex in flavor. While I am personally not a big fan of lemongrass, he enjoyed the dish and said he would order it again. I was more than pleased with my choice, which I polished off without much help. The cost of dinner was in line with and probably even less than many of the gastropubs we frequent. After our lovely meal, we agreed to make more of an effort to step outside the box when choosing a weeknight dining destination. read more

I'm shocked this place has such good reviews. Yes, an average of 3.5 stars is good considering how horrendous the food is here. "Americanized" doesn't even begin to describe it - it's basically bland, pseudo Asian food for people who like to put soy sauce on their white rice.... who taught you people to do that, anyway?!? The menu is limited if you're looking for Thai food and the food itself is either horrendously under-seasoned or over-sauced. While there is definitely a lack of decent Thai food options in Philadelphia, keep right on walking past this one, and ignore those "best of" or Zagat's signs in the window - they must've stolen them from somewhere else. read more

This may not have been the best idea, since they were packed and service seemed a little overwhelmed/slow so we were there for about 2 hours!, but that was really the only downside of the evening. Aside from that, the staff was very friendly, and the place has a really cool neighborhood-y feel. They have a nice sized menu, with a lot of authentic dishes and a few old faves thrown in. The food was really good, we had the dumpling sampler, pad thai, and a curry rice bowl. There are a lot of Thai places in the neighborhood and I found My Thai to be just ok. I got Pad Thai takeout so I can't speak on the in dining experience. The staff seemed very nice though in the limited interactions we had. My Thai is a little pricier than other Thai places in the neighborhood, so I was expecting their food to blow me away. The pad thai was good, not great. The noodles were overcooked, so they were mushy and broke apart easily. It was sparse on peanuts, onion and beansprouts. There was no tofu, which I thought was listed on the menu (I could be mistaken though). On the positive side, the shrimp were plentiful and well cooked and the flavorful and heat was there. I'd probably try this place again for it's 3-course special menu on weekdays, but for take out I think I can do better at similar joints in the neighborhood. read more

I went here a long time ago and remembered it not being very good. Either this place got way better or my memory has failed me. The interior was cozy, it was not very crowded, the food was deilcious & cheap and the service was friendly. My friend asked in Thai if they could make this special salad and they said it was no problem. It was a delicious mix of clear glass noodles, greens, broccoli, and marinated chicken in a spicy sauce. Pad thai: Looks bland and the noodles appear to be chopped up, but very flavorful and good. Not greasy at all and the noodles were cooked perfectly. Spicy shrimp with bamboo shoots: Outstanding. I never realized how great bamboo shoots were. They were sauteed in an amazing basil, pepper-garlic sauce. The total was only 50 bucks with 2 glasses of house pinot grigio. I've tried here a few times, but I felt the need to review after tonight's dinner. I normally get the green curry, which is tasty, but they don't give you a lot of rice. My husband ordered chicken pad thai and was not expecting the inquisition that followed. Apparently, if you order anything but shrimp with the pad thai, you have to answer questions of "why?" and "are you allergic?" I also don't like tofu so I ask for no tofu for the curry, and also got "well, why?" I don't feel I should have to answer these questions. Why did it take an extra 5 minutes to order something as simple as chicken pad thai? When we got the pad thai the noodles were in somewhat of a square shape...like it came from a box. It wasn't very good either....if a thai restaurant can't do decent pad thai, that doesn't bode well. I will not be returning. Plenty of other places to eat. I think the answer's in the question on this one... I chose to go to a Thai restaurant with a cheesy name and therefore, the dining experience was bound to be less-than-stellar. My friend and I stopped in here the other night because we were hungry little bears, it's located right along our route to our later meeting spot, and well, we love Thai. Although the staff is made up of some of the most adorable and helpful people in the entire city, the food was extremely disappointing. Just by looking over the other reviews which never seem to have more than 3 stars even though they don't have any negative comments, you can tell that there is something wholly unsatisfactory going on... The problem isn't that the food is "bad". It's just not interesting. I had My Thai Duck. It was excessively salty. The rice had the shape of the ice-cream scoop that you expect at any inexpensive Asian-style restaurant. We also ordered crab dumplings, which seemed to be something that I could buy in the frozen food section of Trader Joe's. My friend had Chicken Massaman (he got it even though it isn't on the menu. It was ok, but nothing special. It wasn't even just that our dishes weren't that good... The entire menu was unexciting. I actually had a hard time trying to find anything on the menu that I wanted to eat (and that's rare). Had the price of my dinner been akin to that of an inexpensive Asian-style restaurant I would have been totally fine with this. Since the main courses were in the range of $15, though, I was really disappointed. I hate to been so hard on this place because, like I said, the staff was awesome, but if I'm going out for dinner on a Friday and I'm disappointed by something it may lead to heavy drinking. I ordered the Shrimp with Bamboo Shoots (also asked them to add tofu) over rice and it was not good. There was barely any rice and I ended up with major heartburn (despite the fact I can tolerate spicy food like no other!). The flavoring was okay, but there was just too much going on - thai basil, chili, and pieces of lemongrass that just did not go - or maybe less of lemongrass or chili would have been better. This dish cost me $17.50 which, I think, killed it for me. This price should be for 2 dishes or at least 1 main dish and a side of soup. My Thai is TOO expensive for the quality of food.
