Not only does he know exactly what to do to make your eyes feel better, he will make you laugh so hard that you will forget you have that stupid eye tester on your face. Amber sat with me while I was trying to put contacts in for the first time by myself and was super encouraging and did not judge me that it took 15 minutes to get a contact in. I was given a few samples to try out for contacts. On my third sample, I was good. We finalized my prescription, and I ordered the contacts. I received the contacts. They did not work. I contacted them to verify my prescription was correct. They said yes. I contacted the MFR and they sent me a new set of contacts. Still no good. I contacted the DRs office to get me prescription rechecked and they said "Sure, but it will cost you out of pocket". All I wanted was to verify the prescription. I was told nope. Sorry. So basically, I was out the cost of the contacts because they are unusable to me and unable to go see another DR unless I pay since I used my insurance visit for the year. Clearly, they did not update my prescription to the third sample and did not care to help me out. Plenty of other eye DRs out there.

I have histoplasmosis scarring on the back of one eye, and the doc walked me through my eye images, explaining what that means and how it could potentially affect me in the future. I grew up going to yearly visits knowing I had this issue, but no one has ever taken the time to talk me through if, which I appreciate as someone with a working knowledge of anatomy. My pledge to commit to that philosophy is even more serious in the instance when I received my first exam from the optical professionals at Whitson Vision, with locations on East 86th Street in Indianapolis and at IU West Hospital in Avon (in addition to surgical facilities at 9002 N. Meridian Street in Indy). I recently completed my first appointment with Dr. Doore, an Optometrist who, along with several others, ran a series of tests to ensure that my Type 2 Diabetes was not causing any severe issues with my sight. Each and every individual displayed the finest measure of kindness, compassion and a commitment to concise and easily understandable, plain English doctor-patient communication. This was not my first experience with the Whitson Workforce! My domestic partner has experienced a decades- long case of chronic glaucoma and has benefitted from Dr. Whitson's direct surgical expertise, including two significant procedures that seem to have turned out...well, to be succinct, brilliant! Doctors and patients seem unanimous in their opinions that Dr. Whitson is the "go-to" opthalmologist when no one else can fix a difficult eye problem. The staff is great and helps w picking out glasses. If you do not want glasses they are not high pressure. They even helped get me a better deal than what my insurance would have paid. I got a $59 frame w progressive lenses for $199. That made me thrilled. I paid nearly $450 at LensCrafters and $500 at a local place. My daughters glasses were just over $100. Plus our glasses came in very fast. We will be coming back.

As they saw me approach they fled from the front desk to behind the hallway/doorway to the right of the desk and then peeked around the corner when I got to the door and noticed it was locked. They made eye contact a second time and then walked again behind the wall laughing. Luckily a male staff member came to the door as I was preparing to leave and gave me my glasses. I would not have been upset at all if the ladies just came to the door and advised that they were closed or could not process anything on a Saturday, but playing rude and childish games cost them any future business from my family as well as ensuring that I will recommend other offices to everyone I know.
