I would not go back to My Eye Doctor here at Burke. The doctor was professional and friendly, but the staff that works there to get your glasses is distant and disengaging. I have a hard time finding a right pair of glasses due to my facial structure and the staff (young male worker) was not helpful at all. This actually is my second time getting the same experience here. Time to find a new optometrist. read more

I have to agree with the other low-star reviewers of this location. The front-line workers here are distressingly casual and inattentive. They let you wait for minutes at a time without asking what kind of help you need. When you proactively ask for attention they leave you waiting again. Also, call me old-fashioned, but when a store clerk the age of my youngest child, who has never met me previously, addresses me as "Buddy," it does not inspire a feeling of confidence or respect. I am still waiting for a copy of my prescription, which I asked for 20 minutes ago. Meanwhile, I am the only customer sitting in a store staffed by three idle clerks. I have been with this Doctor for about 11 years now, they were great! Now that they were bought out by MyEyeDr. they are horrible. The new staff is very rude, especially the clerks up front and they are very short and brief with you. As far as the actual Drs go, I don't know. The lady I was going to for 11 years changed offices once she found out that they were being bought out. All in all, this place used to be a nice, locally owned optometrist and now it is part of a larger corporation, which includes horrible staff, horrible service, and and an all around horrible atmosphere. read more

This week was my second visit to My Eye Dr and it felt like I'd known the staff for years! They are friendly and clearly enjoy their work. I did my medical forms on line and was seen shortly after I signed in. The opticians fixed my son's glasses at no charge (purchased elsewhere 2 years ago) and made my (admittedly cheap)sunglasses stay "put" on my nose all while I was in with the doctor. They really know their stuff! The woman who helped me explained what my insurance covered (VSP is amazing) and what I should get and what I DID NOT NEED TO GET. It does take more than a week to get the glasses but that is (I'm suppose) why VSP gets me such a good deal-no middle man. All told, it was actually a fun experience. Thanks! read more

I was in yesterday for a full eye exam and to order a pair of glasses. The Dr. and staff were engaging, well-informed, and very, very helpful. As far as eye exam,and getting glasses... everything seems pretty standard. the dr I have seen both times is nice and helpful. The staff is alright. My biggest issue that I have is that both times I have been here (and the time that my husband went a few months ago) the wait is FOREVER. I was just there and had to wait an hour after my appointment time to be seen by the doctor, then longer after that to finalize and order my lenses. That should be improved. read more

I had an eye exam here recently. The eye doctors are very competent, but watch out for the hustlers peddling the glasses and contacts! They tried to give some song and dance about a $395 base price for an eye exam, contact lens fitting, and year supply of contacts. They told me I had saved $200 using my insurance. When I asked them why I was starting at that price when I had insurance they quickly knocked another $100 off the price. When I asked them why I would spend $250 on four boxed of contacts they balked. I whipped out my phone and showed them I could get them for $ 40 a box, they matched the price. So, in the end, I spent about $75 bucks on my yearly exam and supply of contacts, not $300!!!! I'm going to report them to the Better Business Bureau!!! Buyer beware!!! read more

I had a great experience with my 10 year old daughter in this office. The doctor was great with her, and me, in explaining everything we needed to know about her vision and some choices we had. Grace, the technician that helped us with glasses and the process of contact fitting, was outstanding. She was patient, kind and amazingly helpful with my daughter. We required a lot of patience. Grace's customer service was exemplary and I will make sure to visit her specifically when I need glasses. Have used these guys for several years for our family and they are wonderful. My son sees a pediatric specialist for his eyes but we come here for the glasses because their service is great -- especially for the frequent breaks, scratches, losses that happen with kids glasses. I feel like they are always trying to help us maximize insurance benefits and specials. Have also seen the doc for help with declining adult eyesight and she was wonderful, too. Run, don't walk away from Burke My Eye Doctor!! Convenience won out over common sense. I have had problems here in the past with untrained associates performing eye exams on broken equipment and then telling me there were no abnormalities even though they could not read the output, but I gave them the benefit of the doubt and returned when I needed new glasses. I ordered two pair of glasses and both orders were messed up. The manager scratched my new lens when fitting them into my existing frame and told me I'd have to leave everything and come back in a few days for the replacement - with no glasses to wear in the mean time! He did finally allow me to use the glasses with a scratched lens until the replacement arrived. The second pair was not what I ordered and was sent back for correction - he wrote up the order wrong. When the replacement came in everything looked blurry but the manager insisted there was nothing wrong with them and I'd just have to get use to them. The technician - who is a peach - checked them out and immediately found that the iris measurements the manager took were wrong. That's a second reorder on that pair. All the problems I had were because one employee was not paying attention to what he was doing. His mistakes inconvenienced me with repeated visits but I cringe to think of how much money his mistakes have cost this store! read more

Total disappointment! I utilized their "services" a few months back. It was like a clearinghouse with an overwhelming feeling of being rushed. I would say the Dr's seem competent and as far as my prescription goes, I am happy. However, I would NOT purchase glasses through them. I ordered the thinnest lenses available with all the coatings. I did not get the thinnest lenses they were actually thicker than my prior pair that I had purchased when it was just Dr. Katz's office and not My Eye Dr. The price was high considering the type of lenses I chose. They told me those were what I ordered and the thinnest they offered. They are so much thicker and heavier I cannot actually wear the glasses. So I looked to Coastal.com to purchase a cheaper pair. I paid $100 (for the lenses) and $0 for the frames through Coastal.com, the lenses are amazingly thin. The frames are identical to the pair I already have. I paid $300 less than I did at My Eye Dr. You do the math! I can safely say that I will never go back to My Eye Dr! read more

I have worn eyeglasses for over 50 years. I started with single vision glasses - back in the 1960's and have, over time gone from single vision, single vision plus astigmatism, bifocals, trifocals and now progressives. I was greeted by a friendly staff member that made me feel I was her first concern. My pre exam was equally as friendly and professional. The machines were clean and in working condition. The method she uses with one of the test, lessen my fear about the exam. What can I say about Dr. Katz.........plenty..........always professional and he's concern about my general health and the health of my eyes, a total package the whole patient! I have been a patient of Dr. Katz for many years. He is an outstanding eye doctor and he has a great personality as well. I recently had my eyes examined and ordered new glasses through Grace, a lovely person with great insight as to what I liked and offered me great service. However, the sunglasses came in with the wrong color tint when I picked them up at night, I did not notice. I thought I was getting gray tint, but it was brown. I went back with my glasses, and although on the print out of the order it said, brown...I did not notice the mistake,but Justin said, " No problem, this is an easy fix." Just returned from My Eye Dr in Burke. Had to write a note because it was a super positive experience. We've used this particular MED for several years now and have always had great customer service. Today, I took my daughter's glasses in hoping to have the right arm replaced. Grace greeted me with a smile and, after showing her the state of my daughter's glasses--she's pretty hard on them and they've been replaced once already--Grace happily took on the challenge of finding a replacement arm. She found a great match, but it was for the wrong side. She took the time, free of charge, to reshape the arm to fit on the other side of the glasses. They're like new! I recently went in for my annual checkup. Everything went well. The doctor was fantastic. She was thorough and thoughtful. I could understand everything she was explaining to me and she was patient when I was unclear. Perfect. I cannot say enough about Grace!!! I have NEVER, in 40+ years, found a pair of glasses that made me happy. I walked out of that office EXCITED to get my new pair. It took a while but Grace was patient, honest, kind and made me feel at ease. She was not going to give up on me. She was priceless. My glasses were expensive, but you get what you pay for....Also, I visited on Saturday, Sept. 13. I was told me specs would be ready on Sept. 23. I got a call on Wednesday, Sept. 17 only to find out that my glasses are ready. Can't wait to get them. I highly recommend this office. I cannot say enough great things about MyEyeDr in Burke, Virginia. I ordered three pairs of glasses from them on a previous prescription I got from them about 10 months ago. Shafiq was especially helpful and very friendly, and quite helpful to me when I was selecting frames. To my surprise, I received a text from them just 24 hours later letting me know one pair of glasses was ready! In 30 years of wearing glasses, I have never had quick service like that. The other two glasses arrived a week later, since they had to be sent to a specialist for the distance lenses to be ground (I have a tough astigmatism). Two years ago was the last time I ever stepped foot in this place. The optometrist (I'm not sure of the name, anymore) was unfriendly and extremely rude right when I stepped into her exam room. She did not even greet me and gave me a dry, "Sit," as soon as I walked in. They never had my contact lenses ready in the time that they said they would. I had to call first and ask about them. When I picked up the call from the staff (when the contacts finally arrived), no one was even on the line. I think they called, left the phone, and forgot that I was on the line. All I heard was laughing and chit chat until they hung up on me. Very rude. I agree with John S. that the staff are "distant and disengaging." And this is not all. I found out way later that they charged me double for a glasses exam and a contact lens exam. When I went to the optometrist at Costco, they ONLY charged me for my contact lens exam and gave me a complimentary glasses prescription. I definitely do not recommend My Eye Dr. Even thinking about it two years later gets me all worked up. I emailed them a complaint and they sent me a coupon - as if I'm going there again! -EDIT 8/28/10- I would also like to add that I clearly remember one year when I literally waited half a day until I could finally leave their store with everything I needed. Just to let you know, I just came back from my routine checkup at Costco which only took 20 minutes... Where I got a complimentary lens solution + case and a complimentary glasses prescription... And where I was greeted by a friendly, informative staff that explained every step of my visit. That's called customer service - something that My Eye Dr. obviously doesn't know. read more

I have a child who has had difficult experiences at the eye doctors, because of her lack of focus and finding doctors with a lack of patience. I initially selected this one because of Dr. Katz's experience. However, our appointment ended up being with Dr. Denise Tran. I absolutely cannot recommend her highly enough. She was patient and understanding, she made everything a game and my daughter was able to follow her instructions. It was the first time we had been able to come away from the eye doctor appointment with glasses! I would go to her again and recommend her for every child and adult. I wasn't going to write a review but let me start from the begining since my experience with them has been extremely frustrating. I went in for an eye exam, I believe it was $99 dollars everyone there knew I was there for that deal but at the very end since I did not want to buy any glasses or contacts they upcharged me to $120 for the kind of contacts I use. Which I think is absolutely ridiculous and that they need to let customers know if there would be a change in price. Second, I asked for a copy of my lens prescription. They had the nerve to give me out a non-official copy of my prescription. Since experience didn't turn out well I went to Costco to buy glasses when I needed them and they couldn't accept my prescription. So I had to call and wait over 40 minutes for them to fax it over. Definately will not go back and will not recommended them to anyone. read more

I had a great experience at the Burke location. My visit was quick-I didn't have to wait long at all. Dr. Katz is very nice and funny. I don't really feel like a 'number" at this office; I feel like the staff cares about me individually. Grace helped me out with re-sizing my glasses and ordering my contacts. She was VERY nice. I have been seeing Dr Katz since moving to the area about 20 years ago, and really appreciate his knowledge and "bedside manner." When he and his partner were running the office the front desk service and eye glass sales were always friendly, unrushed, and courteous, with insurance and purchase options fully explained. Since "going corporate" the emphasis has shifted, as other reviewers have said, to sales over service. I was rushed through the sales process, yet when I asked for a letter for my primary care doctor that summarized the results of my dilated retinal exam (which Dr Katz always provided, no sweat), the fill-in doc couldn't find a piece of letterhead nor knew how to generate a followup letter. And BTW, I had made an apointment with Dr Katz months earlier. In the interim his scheule changed, and no one told me or offered me a different appointment to see HIM, They just wanted to sell me more glasses. I don't see this move into big corporate management as having improved my eye-care experience! Not one bit. read more

Selecting new frames is always a chore for me and the staff has always given helpful advice on the fit and look of the frame on me.
