So I went home to FL for a few days and on my return flight to VA I left my glasses on the plane. Even though I filled out the lost item info immediately online I knew those glasses were long gone. I went online looking for an optometrist to get replacement glasses. No one was accepting new patients especially one from out of state. I decided to see if MyEyeDr could help me out. I have an affinity for Oakley frames and I called one location who didn't carry them, but were happy to look in the system to find the MyEyeDr on Westfield Rd which did. That was true customer service by getting me what I wanted and not try to sell me on something else. I set up an appointment with ease and was seen at my requested date/time. Luckily it's a new year so I got my annual exam along with new glasses. I was told 7 business days for glasses to come in and without fail I got a text saying they were in. A lot of people don't like chain facilities, but MyEyeDr proved there is always an exception. They were able pull up my prescription from over three years ago when I last used a MyEyeDr to compare against my current vision and my insurance information. Too many situations at this location. I'm blind in my right eye. Got my exam. Ordered new contact and glasses. Glasses came in, they put a prescription lens in my right eye. Which gave me a headache. I called Stefan who ordered the glasses. He said he would order a plastic lens for it. Almost 7 weeks after first visit and I still have no contacts or lens. I followed up. Lens was never ordered, contacts not in. Told the receptionist I'd like a refund. She said ok. Went to store. Waited a half hour. And then I was told a refund could not be done. Because a GM was not here to do it. What a line! Called HQ, waited 15 minutes on hold. I've been told 24 hours before I'll be contacted. There's a reason why this location has 2 stars. ABSOLUTE WORST EXPERIENCE with any doctor. The Pantops My Eye Doctor is not only incompetent but her office staff are not helpful or efficient. After two botched prescriptions, many hours going back and forth changing up glasses they still would not refund me my actual exam, which again, was completely worthless. Our eyes are too important to put in the hands of this group. I would steer you away if asked--I'm personally going to see an optometrist next, on my own nickel and will never recommend My Eye Doctor to anyone--anywhere. I have a 9-year old daughter who wears thick lenses and we ordered 2 pairs of glasses from myeyedr. We kept having problems with them, they were cutting her behind her ears, so we continued to have them adjusted. None of the adjustments worked for her so I went back and complained. I told them I wanted my money back because she just couldn't wear either pair. We were told we couldn't get our money back but we could get 2 other pairs. We tried that but neither pair was better. She was cut so badly that her places got infected. I did document this to show them. They called us numerous times to tell us her glasses were in but we got there and they weren't, this went on for months until she had to stop wearing them altogether, keep in mind she is legally blind without her glasses. MyEyeDr caused a delay in my treatment for Glaucoma. I saw Dr. David Clauss at the 5th St Station Office in Charlottesville, VA on 4/12/23 because I was having trouble with the vision in my right eye, I told him it was like looking through a screen. He examined me and gave me a prescription for reading glasses. I was surprised that he found no other issue, but relied on his assessment. After 4 months my vision seemed to be getting worse so I made an appointment with a specialist on 9/18/23 where I was quickly diagnosed with Severe Stage Glaucoma and was told that I had permanently lost most of the vision in the upper portion of my right eye. I alerted MyEyeDr of this situation so they could determine why they failed to alert me to the possibility of Glaucoma. Their response indicated that they would not necessarily have suspected Glaucoma. I'm 69 years old and my pressure readings were above 21, so it is hard to figure how their professional would not have at least mentioned the possibility. So think twice before you rely on MyEyeDr for your eye care. read more

30 mins sitting in lobby - never got to see Dr. First appointment of the morning (Monday - 9am) - so I was reasonably assured a quick in and out. Five people came in with me as soon as doors opened (9:02 am). Waited patiently for over 30 mins - no Dr - no apologies - no updates. Far to many great optometrist in area - so I will go find another Dr that doesn't double book themselves and has some concern for patients time. Customer service zero - and didn't wait around to see what patient care would rate. read more

just an update from last time. I am getting new glasses and I am not getting them from here. Also it took them 3 months to get my glasses.

Long story short: the placed a hold/ claimed my vision insurance benefits even though I never stepped foot into the office. I called to schedule an eye exam and on the same day I cancelled the appointment all together. Never set one foot into the office. However, when I scheduled the appointment the lady ask me for my social security number for insurance. I gave her my vision insurance number instead and scheduled the appointment. Later the same day, I called to cancelled the appointment altogether and was never seen there for any services whatsoever. After I had my eye exam done somewhere else, I went to a optics store to purchase a pair of frames. I gave the associate my insurance information and she had told me that it says that my benefits were already used. I logged into my vision insurance account and it had also said that i had redeemed my vision benefits for the year. I had never used the frame and lens benefits at all so I was totally confused. The associate asked me if i went to price out frames anywhere else. I said yes, but I never gave my insurance information to anyone but MyEyeDr when I scheduled an appointment for an eye exam. Little did I know that MyEyeDr placed a hold/claim on my all vision benefits (although I never stepped one foot into the office) when I gave them my insurance information just to schedule an eye exam with them. They had placed a hold on the eye exam, the frames, and the lenses benefit of my vision insurance. I was pissed. The associate at the optics store called MyEyeDr to ask if they would lift the hold they had incorrectly placed on my benefits. The office told the associate that they had release the hold. So we waited for the information to update so that I could purchase my lenses and frames using my vision insurance benefits. After a while the associate decided to call my insurance company to have the hold lifted (since MyEyeDr did not do that when the associate was on the phone with them and they told them they had done that). Long story short, I was able to use my vision insurance to purchase everything I needed. I will just say this: if you have ever scheduled an appointment (not visit the office but merely scheduled an appointment), please, please, please review your insurance claims. The associate at the optics store was nice enough to resolve this issue for me. However, this could have been a much trickier issue to resolve if I had put off purchasing my glasses and my vision benefits had already been claimed for the year. read more

I was so happy with the Dr. and staff. The service was fantastic! They got me right in the same day, to do the exam. I had broken my frames on my current glasses, they took my lenses out and put them in new frames. I was only charged 1/2 price for the new frames. I did have to get new lenses because I now require progressive lenses. They didn't try to up charge me for stuff I didn't need, she actually did the opposite. I have found my new eye Dr. read more

I loved the practice when it was Covert and Clark. Since My Eye Doctor has taken over the service on our glasses and contacts has dropped to an all time low. We recently ordered glasses and waited over 2 months to find out that the order was back ordered and each time I would contact the staff at the office they would say, it is due in on ----. I finally got the story that the glasses were backordered and when I said cancel the order they magically came in within a few days. If they were backordered or not that is not their fault, however not sharing this information with me is not very good business practice. There was another issue with the lab, one time I ordered my glasses and I could not see. I brought this to the sales staff and they told me to go home and wear them for while. Well I did this for a week and still could not see I resorted to my old pair and brought them back to the office and then they said, Oh this is not your prescription then I had to wait another 3 weeks to receive my new pair. Most of the problems with MyEyeDoctor seem to be in the lab. I have signed a release requesting that all of my prescriptions be released to me and my family members so we can purchase our glasses and contacts elsewhere. It is quite a shame when a local business sells out to a large franchise. I understand the doctors wanting a little less stress, however MyEyeDoctor is not living up to service on the sales end. read more

I've been to the Myeye Dr three times. The first time the eye doctor entered my eye prescription incorrectly leading to me having to "prove" that the contacts I had received were indeed new. I gave the benefit of the doubt, went back in and had a new exam done. The next visit went fine except I had to continuously call regarding my eye glass order, they finally admitted that the order had never been placed after a month of me stopping in. This last visit was...well... I scheduled an appointment online, confirmed via email 2 days prior. I received a call the day before that I was no longer scheduled for that time due to not confirming the appt. I told them I had confirmed, I had tried to call but their voicemail says to leave a message to schedule an appt or for an emergency. So I thought confirming via the email they sent asking me to confirm was enough. Apparently confirming at 8pm at night was an issue, as they said I should have confirmed by 2pm that day?!!? However a timeframe is not indicated in the email AND it was sent to me at 12:30- giving a patient an hour and a half to respond seems ridiculous. Everything was blamed on "corporate." I had an appointment was told the previous day I would still had an appointment at the set time of 10:30 and then was told they "couldn't squeeze me in." Three times I've been there and three times they've messed up and blamed me or "corporate." I tried, but this is a horribly run eye doctor- take ownership of your mistakes, quit blaming others. I don't leave reviews, however I want to tell others to be aware. I use to go to Primary Eye Care at Barracks Road. They were amazing, MyEyeDr has ruined great practices. read more

I use to live in Charlottesville approx 15 years ago and always enjoyed the doctor there. I found out she retired. I was in town recently for business decided to get good eye check up. I had a very good experience from current doctor to check out staff. She helped get some of it covered by my insurance. She also matched Costco prices for my contacts. Not sure why there are such negative reviews... I think staff went above and beyond. There is also plenty of parking. I just think the ac could have been little colder it was little hot inside building. read more

She always takes the time to answer my questions and goes out of her way to make sure I am satisfied with the results. I have been going to a MyEyeDr location in another city for 10-15 years, so I visited this location when I moved to Charlottesville. Just like the previous location, the doctor seemed very competent and was very helpful in selecting the right brand of contacts, etc. The problem is with their billing practices, and specifically how they explain insurance coverage to the patients. I have ALWAYS been told, for many years, that while they do not directly accept my insurance, they honor it by using a "discount plan" that adjusts the prices to be the same as if they did take my insurance. Well my husband just had an eye exam and decided to go to Costco, and the contact lenses were FREE with our insurance. We have each been paying $150 or more every year for contact lenses. And never once did someone explain to us, even after asking for clarification about the fact that they don't officially accept our insurance, that the "discount plan" only applies to the exam and not the contact lenses. In fact, I believe they are deliberately misleading when explaining this to patients because they have even told me they price match contacts to other local places, such as Costco, so that I will get the lowest price possible (without acknowledging that the price match is for what other places charge with NO insurance). The language they use to explain the discount plan has always been consistent no matter what location I visit or who I speak to, so I have to assume this language is designed to be misleading and staff are trained in how to explain it so that people think they are getting a good deal. The home page of their website even says in big letters "We Welcome All Insurance" which in and of itself is misleading. When I discovered that contacts would be free elsewhere, I called today to ask about it, and they finally acknowledged that yes, contacts would be free elsewhere with my insurance. So they are fully aware of this, but explain it to patients in such as to to make sure they don't realize it. They did offer to refund my money, but only for unopened boxes. read more

After twelve years experience with this practice before it was acquired by MyEyeDr, I've resolved never to purchase glasses from them again. The DOCTORS are highly professional, take all the time needed to explain everything, and are clearly committed to a high level of professional excellence. I will NEVER LEAVE Drs Clark and Covert. The problem is with the quality of the glasses and frames. I ordered a pair of prescription polarized sunglasses, and paid several hundred dollars after insurance. Within weeks, cracks began to appear in the frame, even though the frames were handled with care, and never used outside of the car. Within a couple of months, the frames had broken in two places. To their credit, the staff was horrified, and ordered a new pair, with different frames. These took a month to make (apparently the lab kept breaking them). When I got them, they were fine, but not polarized. The staff was horrified again, and blamed the computer system. Apparently the MyEyeDr computer system can't order polarized lenses: the request for polarization has to go in the notes, which the lab apparently ignored. Everything turned out fine in the end. They re-made the lenses, this time polarized, and put them into the new frames, which so far show no sign of cracking. I don't want to be a jerk, because I like them all a lot. But I will order glasses online in the future. Yes, the frames you get from the online vendors are often poorly made, but at least they're cheap. read more

Summary at the end if you don't want to read the wall of text. Went there for the first time in February 2019. Staff very friendly and the Dr. did a good job. I decided to get the lenses and frames from them. Normally I dont do this because every eye care facility usually jacks up the prices, which they did, I looked the frames up after and I could have saved around 70 bucks but I didnt mind as it was convenient. Except it wasnt. I was told everything would be ready by March 18th. However, the week before I get a call saying there was a mistake with the insurance and that I actually be saving $75 but they wouldn't be ready till the 21st. I figure ok, there's the convenience fee coming back I guess. On the 21st, I dropped my kid off at daycare which is near there and decided to stop by in person to see how they were coming along. I'm told that they wont be shipped until the 23rd which is a Saturday and they would let me know when they got there. Also I failed to mention that my $75 would be mailed and I wouldn't receive it for 4-6weeks. I'm not trying to brag, but I spent a healthy amount of money on nice frames and lenses and yet after all this, zero was offered to me in some form of compensation. So to sum this all up, Nice staff and Dr, the frames were overpriced, I was overcharged, Essentially had 75 bucks taken from me and held on to for possibly over 2 months, had my delivery date pushed back three days, then to "we'll let ya know", and no form of compensation. read more

Filed wrong/old insurance, forgot to order my contacts, then ordered wrong prescription, next they only ordered 6 months worth when I paid for 12 months!! This was ALL for one visit! I've been a patient of this practice for four years. They were purchased by MyEyeDr. this year and since then their service and care has gone down the drain! Under the previous ownership, the frames I purchased from them had an issue arise with the Crizal coating on the lenses becoming defective three separate times. The old ownership justly replaced the lenses THREE times at no charge to me and were gracious about it. I received an eye exam on 12/3/15 and my prescription changed so little that the optometrist, Dr. Clark, didn't recommend that I change lenses. Under the old ownership you would check out with the receptionist, but now under MyEyeDr., they pass you to their "check out optician specialists" that give you the hard sell for new lenses and frames. I said no to both but did ask that I get my current frames tightened. The optician, Ashley, disappeared in the back and returned with them after a while. They were tighter, I paid my bill and left. However, I almost immediately noticed a difference in my vision and found that the Crizal streaking issue had reappeared after her adjustment. I returned the very same day to show them the flaw and they claimed no responsibility for it but took my info to see what they could do. They never got back to me and so I called another day, re-explained the situation and timing after their frame adjustment, and they again denied responsibility but admitted that they took the lenses out and put them back in. What? But I had simply requested a tightening of the screws in the frame! Inserting the lenses in my small frames is tricky and Patti, the optician who handled my 3 previous replacements had said at that time of the arduous replacements that this was the direct cause of the Crizal defects. Now, MeEye Dr. claims no responsibility and has not offered a fix of the issue in good faith. They have offered me a "discount" in replacing the lenses (recall that I never wanted this and the Dr. didn't recommend it) and quoted me a specific price. Today, I called my eye insurance company to find that the "discount" MyEyeDr offered is the equivalent of what is rightfully covered by my insurance and so is not a true discount. Instead, it just shows that they price gouge their customers and then offer discounts for squeaky wheel clients that are the equivalent of what they should charge in the first place. Summary: Very deceptive, overpriced, poor service, and they will do anything to make a sale up to and almost including sabotage! read more

As others have stated, the doctors and staff at Dr Clark and Covert's practice are very kind and professional. My family has been using the practice for over 20 years, and we will continue to visit them for our eye exams. However, I found the high pressure sales tactics currently used in the optical shop to be very offputting. Because I have trusted this practice for so many years, I foolishly did not scrutinize the prices of the unneeded and unwanted "features" of the new glasses I ordered. For example, I was told by the sales person that one-time replacement insurance was included in my purchase, but I was not told that there was an additional charge for that. I have never lost or broken a pair of glasses, and I would not have paid extra for that insurance. I understand that there must be useful benefits to the practice of using a national vendor for some of their services, but my recent glasses buying experience left a bad taste in my mouth, and I won't purchase my glasses from My Eye Dr in the future. read more

My whole experience was horrible! Starting upon arrival to the office I was greeted by a receptionist/technician (not sure of her title) took me back to start the exam. She asked me to sit down in front a tonometer machine (blow air into eyes) as she was adjusting, pokes me in the eye. She apologized and states she is new however that would've been great to know up front as well as having someone to assist her. Second, I paid additional monies to have my eyes checked for diseases I had to ask the doctor for the results nor did I see the film makes me wondering if it was done. Finally, I left my eye glasses to have a new prescription placed in them. The eye wear consultant stated it could take up to 2 weeks to get them back from Davis insurance. Now a week later, I received a call on 10/25/19 at 4:30 pm from the receptionist/technician stating the eye wear consultant needed more info The questions were basically trying to up sell me on their products. After answering them, she placed me on hold however the consultant still had further questions but was not available to talk due to working with other clients. The receptionist/technician said she would leave my contact info and she would get back. Another week had passed I finally got a call from the consultant stating she's been trying to reach me and that she has left several messages. Not true! I had no voice mail messages nor received any correspondence. It's been 2 weeks and my glasses still have not been sent! So, I picked them up along with my prescription and went to Costco. There I had a smooth transaction, great customer service and was able to save money on all of the items they were trying to up sell me on. My eye doctor has lost my business! read more

As a veteran, the VA made the appointment for me. I arrived at the well appointed office on time and it didn't take long to be whisked through the preliminary tests administered by a tech. I decided against the $27 add on test not covered by insurance and also declined having my eyes dilated. I was told it makes the exam easier for the doctor if they were dilated but again, I declined. Another tech came in and also suggested the dilation, and again I refused. Eventually someone who identified themselves as a doctor came in and said it had to be done. I said I don't want it done, and he said, "we're done here". I said he identified himself as a doctor because he wasn't dressed as one. He was dressed as someone about to mow his lawn. As I was leaving, the so called doctor was apparently pointing at me and commenting about me. I started to get angry, and the office manager came out to placate me and asked me to step outside so we couldn't be overheard in the lobby. He suggested he ask another doctor in the office if he would do the exam with the dilation, and of course, he said no as well. He had to back his coworker I'm guessing. I went home and called the VA and they gave me another name to call, and I did call them, and they said they would be happy to give me an exam without dilation so I made an appointment with EyeOne. I called the VA back to get the new appointment authorized and to tell them they should remove MyEyeDr from their list of approved providers. Let me summarize this way, I gave up free will to this country when I submitted to the draft in 1966 and diligently served my time in the service of my country, and I will not give up free will to an eye doctor who won't even take the time to dress professionally. read more

My Eye Dr just took over the practice that was Clark and Covert. Having said that, Clark and Covert were excellent practitioners and would not sell their practice to just anyone. They take most insurance plans and do not insist that you use their spectacle shop. They do have a very beautiful selection of frames but they are pricey. However, you can negotiate the price to be competitive with Costco. Dr. Harpin was in the practice with Clark and Covert at one time but left. He came back to the practice again after it was sold to My Eye Er. He is terrific at getting you into the right contact lens and is extremely knowledgeable, kind, and patient when it comes to working with someone with an astigmatism. I was was thrilled to hear he was back and so were all of his patience. The office staff are also very professional. The woman who did the glaucoma testing on me told me that I my insurance would not pay for the photograph she was going of the back of my eye and asked if I still wanted it done. She said it would be $27. I thought that was really upfront and honest to be told about a procedure and it's cost before having it done. I would say that this office and this outfit is first rate. AND Dr Harpin is the best reason to go there. read more

I will never use any My Eye Doctor anywhere in the country after my experience with the group in Charlottesville . We have had 20 years experience with this practice before it was purchased by My Eye Doctor this year. We had wonderful care. This year we were quoted a price for glasses that was $150 more than we paid for the exact same thing last year before they took over. Foolishly my husband put a down payment of $200 on the glasses and asked that they not order them until he checked with me. When we told them we could get the glasses for the same price as last year somewhere else and that we wanted our money refunded to our credit card, they told us they couldn't do that, they would have to send us a check. That was two months ago. They STILL have our money despite a dozen phone calls including one to their office in Vienna where we were told it had been credited to us yesterday. It is still not on our account. BEWARE - their business practices are terrible and their prices outrageous. Find somewhere else. read more
