Lied about what my benefits actually were and cost me an extra $700+. Yes, they have a disclosure saying that they can't control what the insurance companies do, but waiting until after the return period is shady. I would be more than happy to return the glasses but the hassle free return end after 30 days and the bill came in today. I checked my insurance website and they were told back in November that they wouldn't cover the whole thing. So they could have told me back then instead of waiting till after the return period. Don't pay until after you get confirmation from your insurance company. Call them yourself. Don't let MyEyeDr tell you it's covered. read more

Just a quick review. Heads up for people. The one yelp photo's a bit inaccurate and they've moved 1 door down in the same plaza. First off: I love they have more space but now having gone twice i've noticed they seem 1-2 people short of being fully staffed. The glasses tech that was helping me was simultaneously helping another person and a couple other people seemed to be doing 2 or 3 different things at the same time. This can lead to some longer waits, but not too bad. Second: They had me in the system as showing up for new contacts, even though i'd ticked the "I wear glasses and contacts" button online. This one was solely for a new, maybe back-up pair of glasses. My dr. (Judith) seemed a bit confused that I didn't want that, since I really only wear contacts when at the beach, and had to change that on my chart. She also was very perturbed that, since my last visit, I hadn't followed up with a recommended glaucoma doc because of my "large optic nerves" and family history (a grandparent). She kind of scolded me for it, and to be frank, that seemed a bit unnecessary. Why? well, life got busy last year after my last visit in various ways. And, i'd been told there could be quite the wait with that doc. Also, every other eye doc i've seen has said to just "monitor it" however possible. Lastly, I think it's pretty normal to forget to follow up with a recommended specialist, especially when my vision is fine. read more

Finally, after nearly four years since my last eye exam, two years after moving, and an insurance change at my employer, I was able to get my eyes checked and get new glasses. What an experience it has been. When my insurance changed and it went into effect I went online and found the nearest office that would take me and had an appointment at the earliest convenience for me. MyEyeDr has many offices in the area and this one had an appointment the next day, on a Saturday. Great for me, and it got me out of the house. Before I came here I did everything I could online, entered my insurance information and all other things. When I showed up for my appointment it was smooth sailing. I had minimal wait, I brought my records from my prior doctor to speed up the whole thing as well. The exam and everything went really fast. I found out a few things about my glasses from my last office that I had no idea were wrong. Like the blue light filter I had ordered was not, in fact, what I ordered. Weird, because I knew I had that and one other thing ordered and it was wrong. This time around, I got it all and the glasses were right. After the exam it went fairly smoothly, with one bump along the way. I found my frames and sat down to hash out the overall lens/frames. When they hit me with the final number I thought it was a little too high. I knew what my limit was for coverage and they still said I was over. Whatever, I needed my new glasses and I paid it. Well, surprise surprise, they did it wrong in their system. I paid out of pocket for the overage even though I don't think I should have. A few weeks later I get a letter in the mail. From the company. After they processed my claim appropriately, I got a reimbursement check in the mail for the out of pocket I had to pay. If they would just listen to the person that has the insurance I wouldn't have to take this unnecessary step of paying and then waiting for reimbursement. read more

I was profiled and treated as someone who had no funds to make a purchase in the stores. I was greeted very harsh as she didn't wanted to be bothered. The employee id number is 000598. I would recommend others to support this location but after having this kind of interaction. I won't be coming to this location. It's a shame I served my country and this form of customer service is still occurring especially someone who's the general manager. I never had a problem at this location in the past, but my recent visit nearly turned into a nightmare. Someone screwed up my order and the glasses did not by the promised date. Neither the tech nor the location manager had a clue when I asked where they were and it looked like they were not going to arrive in time for my son's wedding. I got in touch with customer service and a district manager and after that, everything went smoothly. I got my glasses in time and they are exactly what I needed. Special shout out to Maritza, who works at this location. She was great to deal with after I contacted corporate. My guess is things would have gone much smoother if I worked with her from the beginning. I would suggest asking for her. Absolutely terrible scheduling communication. I received a call from this location's support staff asking me to verbally confirm my appointment. I returned the call within the hour and spoke with another representative who told me they would note that I confirmed. The very next day I was called again and told because I "didn't confirm" my appointment time had been given to someone else. That is completely unacceptable. This office clearly has serious internal communication problems. If this is how they handle something as simple as appointment confirmations, it doesn't inspire much confidence in the rest of their operations. Also, requiring verbal phone confirmations in 2026 is outdated and inefficient. Most medical offices send simple text confirmation or automated reminders so situations like this won't happen. It might be time for this office to get with the times and implement a basic system that actually works. Do better MyEyeDr! read more

They're OK. I called a week before the release of the Meta generation 2. I talked to a nice woman who told me that they would have it possibly available on the date that she set me up for an appointment. I was very excited because I had called 12 other optical places and they didn't ever know what smart glasses were. when I showed up, I had a good exam, yay doc, but when I came out and they tried to sell me glasses as they always do, I did not have a good experience when I asked about Meta glasses I was directed to a broken display where the frames were on a cord, which could not reach my head. a Meta specialist came out to talk to me about the glasses. He had no idea that the next generation had came out the day before. I should have talked only with the 60yo super nice lady who was the only person in the place that had a clue. she was at a conference or something according to my phone call and I ended up with a well meaning but out of date dude. everyone there was nice. my exam told me my eyes were getting worse. my doctor was great I'm not upset they didn't have the glasses I wanted to try. Had eye exam 12/29. Did not receive notification that my glasses were in until after I went to pick up my glasses on 1/25. The glasses were "blanks." I was told that it "unfortunately happens." I have since learned that this has happened to lots of people who have used My Eye Dr. The employee said that a rush fix would be placed, and I would receive a call when ready. I received no call but checked on 2/9 and was told that they were expected in soon and that I would receive a call. I left my cell. I received no call. I returned today, 2/16, and found that the prescription instructions were not followed. I am now waiting for another rush fix. I have been without my primary glasses for a month and a half. For anyone who has had to live with their "backup" pair for any length of time, you understand the frustration! read more

Save yourself the high prices and headaches of MyEyeDr, and go to Warby Parker instead. I went to MyEyeDr to get updated lenses for my glasses and had 3 issues where MyEyeDr was disorganized and overcharged: 1) They told me the price would be $123, so I planned to have my insurance cover the cost as its within their price limit. After I paid and looked at the receipt, I saw the price was $349, they had already charged my insurance $226, and $123 was the remaining out-of-pocket price that my insurance wouldn't cover. I wish they had told me that before I paid, but they only told me the price would be $123. When I asked them about it, they didn't help and said they must have miscommunicated the price. 2) They told me they couldn't use my current glasses prescription because it was over a year old, and that I would need to book an appointment for an eye exam to get a new prescription. I've seen that Maryland law says that glasses prescriptions are valid for 2 years, so I told them that mine was still valid, and they changed their mind and let me use my old prescription. 3) They told me twice that my lens would be available for pickup on Monday. I went on Tuesday to pick them up and they still weren't ready. In contrast, when I ordered my glasses from Warby Parker a few years ago, there were no headaches and it was so much cheaper - $125 for the entire cost of lens + frame, and I got the cost reimbursed by my insurance. I've been a patient here for over a decade and the quality drastically declined in recent years. Dr. Vu remains the only good thing about this place. The reception staff and the girl who did my initial eye exam were unprofessional and made me feel uncomfortable. The billing was a complete disaster. The computer kept crashing and didn't read my credit card and I spent the next 2 weeks calling them to close out my bill because they weren't following up like they promised. Then I got a bill a month later claiming I owed MORE, and the added charges were vague and confusing. I save all my past bills and found prices increased for eye exams and contacts. I noted a $30 increase in my eye exam compared to past year and contacts went up by $60. That last visit was the final straw. I'll be leaving this practice after 15 years of being a patient here. read more

Dr. Vu was great. My review is centered around the support staff handling my contact lens order. I requested to have my contact lens shipped directly to my home. After a week I still hadn't received them. So I called and was told it was supposed to take another week. Which I thought it was odd for it to take two weeks to receive a contact lens order but I thought maybe that's just how things are now with supply chain. Another week came by and went, and I still hadn't received my order. I called again and then was told that they were sent to the clinic. But no one had bothered to call to let me know. They asked if they wanted my contact lenses to be shipped to my home and I chose that option again out of convenience. I confirmed my address multiple times with the receptionist I was speaking to. Then a few days later, I get a call from the neighbor saying they have a delivery for me that was sent to their home. So the clinic didn't even send it to the correct address. And when I opened the box, I see that the contact lenses were actually delivered to the clinic three days after my appointment date. So how is it that when I called originally after a week after my appointment I was told I had to wait another week when they had been sitting in the clinic all along? And to top it all off, they made a note that they contacted me when my order was delivered to the clinic. I was never contacted once by this clinic regarding my contact lenses. This was a long drawn out process for me that didn't need to occur simply because of lack of oversight and poor operations. I wouldn't recommend this location. read more

Here is a postscript to my previous post of January 10, 2024, in which I explained how Myeyedr attempted to defraud me in connection with the possible purchase of new lenses for my glasses. I explained then that I had no apparent problem with the service I had received from the on-site optometrist -- My only problem then was with the sales representative who she had handed me off to after completing her eye exam. Well, after the past six weeks struggling to fill the prescription for my new glasses, I can add the optometrist, Dr. Judith Spirer, to the category of objectionable, horrible service providers at Myeyedr. Let me explain. I took the prescription I had received to Costco to get new lenses. When the Costco representative told me they could not provide the lenses only, I opted to purchase new glasses (regular and sunglasses) instead. When I picked them up a week or so later, the vision in my left eye was totally blurry. After checking several things, the Costco rep suggested the problem was probably with the prescription and he noted that the change in prescription for my left eye was pretty extreme. So, I made an appointment back at Myeyedr to see Dr. Spirer to recheck the prescription. When I returned, Dr. Spirer examined my left eye again and confirmed that the original prescription was correct. She concluded that the problem must be with the lenses, rather than the prescription. So, now that I was left with Dr. Spirer telling me one thing and Costco telling me another, I decided to make an appointment with a non-Myeyedr optometrist to recheck my eyes and assess whether the prescription from Dr. Spirer was correct. The new optometrist did a thorough exam and concluded that Dr. Spirer's prescription for my left eye was completely erroneous. In fact, he said that if the vision in my left eye had changed as dramatically as Dr. Spirer's prescription indicated it had; he would have sent me to see an opthamologist to do further testing for some neurological or other organic cause. Armed with my new prescription, I returned to Costco, who gladly remade my new glasses. When I received them yesterday, I tried them on and they provided clear vision in both eyes! So, what am I to conclude from Dr. Spirer's wrong prescription from not one, but two separate exams? Either Dr. Spirer's is 1) professionally incompetent; 2) the equipment she used on both occasions was faulty, or; 3) Dr. Spirer, knowing that I was planning to get my glasses from Costco, rather than from Myeyedr, intended to ensure the prescription did not result in acceptable eyeglasses. I'd have dismissed this last possibility as fanciful, were it not for the dishonest actions of the Myeyedr representative who attempted to defraud me. Regardless of it's cause, Dr. Spirer's extreme error in her exams leads me to caution anyone from using her. read more

The worst. They not only got my prescription wrong, both pairs of glasses I ordered were screwed up. On one pair, the lab put the bifocal line way down at the bottom of the glasses (see photo) On the other, one lens didnt even match the frames. Just for fun, I waited three weeks for the glasses - nobody could tell me where they were or when they'd arrive. They have one job: get an accurate prescription and make glasses. Flunked. I got prescription and frame but it doesn't work in the middle of the line sight. My far vision with new glasses and close vision (where you need kneel down to see details) are perfect. Major problem is the middle line of the frames - to see something like monitor I need to pull my head above - likes the main line on lenses is not align properly. If I want to see clear something in about 16 inch required me to pull my head up - very uncomfortable to be honest, I would like to resolve this problem and as soon as possible. Any help from your side would be very welcome. Reply from customer service - wait for 2-3 business days, Counting that it's not a fashion store and more like pharmacy I would expect reply 24/7. Downgrade to 3 stars (same on google maps) and waiting for a reply actually now. Update 04/10/2021: Kudos to a technician who solved my problem at the Georgia Avenue location. He was also pretty honest and outlined upfront my options. I would say that 800 line is a mess - try to contact them directly if you are experiencing any issues with your new glasses. First, the optometrist is very good with a nice demeanor. However, MyEyeDr is a chain, and they're in it to make money. They tried to double dip with my insurance company and my out-of-pocket expenses. They're also aggressively trying to get you to purchase their contacts. Don't fall for it. You have to be very careful about their billing. Second, if you don't respond to a text, they will cancel your appointment. I thought the text was just a reminder, but nope, you have to take action. I'm tired of the modern world at times. Seems to me that if I make an appointment, I'm going to keep it. I don't need hand-holding. Added to all that, it's a PITA getting into downtown Silver Spring with the purple line construction. I'm finally changing optometrists. read more

I stopped in at My Eye Dr's Silver Spring branch after picking up a pair of new glasses at another branch. The glasses tech had not done any fitting or adjusting and told me I was good to go. On the way home, I noticed they were crooked so I stopped at the other location. Donovan, newly promoted to general manager, was terrific. Dr. Vu is the only decent sensible human being in this office and was the only reason I came here for so long. The rest of the staff are rude and unhelpful, can't even figure out my insurance which hadn't changed in 5 years. Turned me away from an appointment when all I wanted was prescription drops from an optometrist, and willing to pay cash for it (without insurance), but no. They told me go to urgent care which gives the completely wrong type of drops that makes my eye infection worse. Dr. Vu knows the right type so that's why I wanted to see him. They shouldn't turn paying customers away. They blatantly sold me new glasses when my prescription hadn't changed. The exact same numbers as before but they wouldn't tell me what they were until it was too late. They insisted I buy new glasses just so they can get the commission. They tried selling all sorts of extras saying it was the doctor's recommendation, but it wasn't when I asked him. Rip off. They're very rude on the phone and don't even pretend to help. They refuse to email me anything I ask for like a receipt for insurance reimbursement. I always have to go into the office to pick up paperwork when they have my email address on file and send me tons of spam. Just email it to me! I won't be returning to this office. I tried to avoid MyEyeDr completely but found a different office and went there today for an infinitely superior experience in every way. 5 stars for Dr. Vu. Negative stars for everyone else. My family and I have been going to this location for years. Great staff. We went in June 2022, paid for my daughter's new glasses with two credit cards, both of which were approved on their cc machine, but their new computer system said they were declined. Called my banks, both said they were approved. Manager at myeyedr said their IT dept would not fix it, I need to cancel the transactions with my bank. My bank said they have to confirm I didn't get the glasses. Ugh. Not taking that chance of their computer working again. read more

I just got back from eyeglass shopping. I compare it to shopping for paint. Do I go for Marlboro Blue or Eton Blue? Do I like this brand or that brand. What's my best color? What shape lense flatters me the most? After 40 minutes and the help of the sales associate, I settled on a pricey pair of Coach frames. I decided to do the 'Buy one/Get one free' deal since my insurance plan coverage was not a very large discount. So, I also "purchased" a pair of prescription Coach sunglasses. They were not exactly free... I had to pay $30 for the lenses, $65 for polarization and $22 warranty (optional). I like them, I think. I was told my regular glasses will be ready by Saturday and the sunglasses will be finished the following week. Overall, I invested $638 in my vision. That is quite a bit more than the last time I bought glasses. As far as parking, I am not sure what Sam P. is talking about. There is a small metered lot at the corner, a large county structure on Wayne Ave. that you pay for as you leave (your best bet) and lots of metered street parking. read more

I have been coming here for the last few years with no problem. But when I came to get my frames fixed on my warranty covered glasses, they took my glasses (WITH MY LENSES) and only returned me new frames with blank lenses. They then told me I had to wait until Tuesday (on Thursday) for the office manager to come in so I wouldn't be CHARGED FOR A MISTAKE THEY MADE. I call Tuesday and the manager assured me they will fix this and "find or order new lenses". It has now been over a month and I have still not received my glasses despite being told since a week ago they will be done; first Friday, then Tuesday, and now today is Wednesday and I was put on a hold for over 20mins. They have not been accommodating with making this issue resolved only false time lines and delays on my glasses which I rely upon heavily. They have not offered a credit or anything. I came to the Silver Spring location because the reviews for the Beltsville one were making me nervous. We arrived at around 6:00 on a Monday, which gave me all of 30 minutes to commit to a set of frames because I am in desperate need of new glasses. At first I felt overwhelmed, and then a bit underwhelmed, and then overwhelmed again. One of he staffers asked me for my prescription. I gave it to him and looked around for glasses. I found a pair that I liked, and he helped me get all my insurance in order. I was really scared about this because I usually have my dad do it, but it was all easy-peasy. I even got my old frames outfitted with new lenses. If you come to this location and see Miguel, definitely prepare yourself for some great service. He was super friendly but also super professional. I just had a great time and was just a bit disappointed he wasn't there when I went to pick up my glasses. ALSO, Yelpers, make sure you take advantage of the free sunglasses that you can get by printing out the coupon. :) Definitely a great experience here. read more

I made friendly conversation with the woman conducting my eye exam and asked her questions about herself after she asked me some. I'm sure she would have been fine not making conversation; I'm just someone who likes to talk. The process of selecting frames went nicely as well. I received tips on how to select them, and was given the personal opinion of the person helping me on what sort of glasses frames I might look good in. And they had a decent selection of frames, too.
