I had a pleasant experience got an eye exam and purchased a new pair of glasses without any issues. The eye doctor (Asian guy) was friendly and the exam went very well. This location is busy because of it's location. The sales rep Latino guy with a beard introduced himself to me and was very patient, not pushy and was excellent with helping me choose a nice pair of frames and purchase them with no issues. I emphatically do not recommend the location on Georgia Ave. in Silver Spring. To be clear, Dr. Vu is wonderful--caring, competent, and professional. Get your prescription and fill it elsewhere. My first bad experience was several years ago when a salesperson copied the prescription wrong. I had to go back and get new lenses. The second bad experience was two years ago. I specifically asked if the lenses could be fitted to my existing frames. I was assured they could and that it would only take 20 minutes in the shop to fit them. When I called they said it would take two weeks to fit them. That was unacceptable because I only had one pair of eyeglasses. So I went two years with a prescription that was out of date. My final bad experience just occurred. On September 12 I had the exam. The salesperson took my glasses to the back and measured them so the lenses could be fitted to the frames. It would take two weeks she said. Six weeks later I called and talked to the manager, who admitted he was still learning about the industry and didn't know when the lenses would arrive. Last week I got an email saying the lenses were in. Today the salesperson said it would take about twenty minutes to fit the lenses into my frames. When I returned I was told the lenses didn't fit my frames, despite being promised eight weeks ago that this could be done. I excused the first mistake because the salesperson was new to the job. The second mistake I dropped into the "supply chain" bin of problems. This last one though--total incompetence. Easy promises were made apparently without knowing what the shop and the supplier were capable of. All they needed to say was, "We can't do that." I would have taken my prescription and gone elsewhere for the lenses. I was naive and patient. I thought their problems could be overcome. After three bad experiences, I'm convinced this is their standard practice. I will never go back. Lesson learned. read more

This was my first visit to location as I usually go to the location in downtown DC. I was greeted at the front desk and waited to have my eyes tested in the back then after that was done I waited around five minutes to see the Doctor. I wanted glasses and contacts so I used my vsp insurance for the cost of the contacts and paid for my lenses. I received a pair of contacts to wear while my contacts were shipped. I got my new contacts in less than a week. My glasses took two weeks which I was told to expect. I got a text message to drop by and pickup the glasses. The day that I picked up my glasses was busy so I went to young lady at the front desk and told her that I was there to pickup my glasses. She wrote down my name and told me to have a seat and she would get someone to help me. So after waiting fifteen minutes and seeing people come in ahead of me I had to ask someone else to help me since I could plainly see that she had forgotten about me even though I was sitting in plain view. She never apologized nor did she acknowledge me. read more

We had been going to Drs. On Sight in Waldorf then in Tysons Corner and liked them. Since we moved to Silver Spring we wanted to find an eye doctor that is closer so we tried MyEyeDr. The impression I got was that they were shady based on the way they priced glasses. The glasses I chose were more expensive than I wanted to pay so I told them I would have to think about it. They immediately came back with a lower price. I again said I had to think about it. This happened 3 times and the price went down by over $100. So, I would rather find a place that does not try to gouge me with an artificially inflated price. read more

If I could give zero I would have. I don't think I have had any poor customer service experience at any store in my life. There is no communication among employees, went their 5 times and they still messed up my lens. Every time I called gave me incorrect information. I had to get my money back and go somewhere where I can be treated as a customer. I would never recommend anyone to go to this place. They need to train their employees so they give the customer accurate information and they all need to be on the same page. WE WILL NEVER GO BACK!! The store was very cramped. I always felt like I was in someone's way. The sales guy was nice at first, but after we choose frames we liked he didn't give us any choices in the lenses. We picked out a regular frame and sunglasses frame. He was on the computer (I thought he was just typing in the demographics info) and then looked up and said the total was about $700!!!!! My fiancé and I just looked at each other in disbelief. He entered the most expensive lenses and coatings without telling us. He didn't go over any options. Good thing I brought a print out of my fiancé's vision benefits and asked why we were paying so much. I felt like I was haggling with him to bring the price down. We were debating whether or not to make the sunglasses prescription or not and wear them with contacts. He mentioned that if my fiancé wasn't wearing contacts, he wouldn't be able to wear the glasses. Well duh.... we're not stupid and I he became less friendly. I printed a coupon from vsp (the vision plan) website for an extra $20 dollars off and he didn't even try to use it or ask a manager to help him. He just when he typed it in it wouldn't work... All the staff present on the day of my appointment (06/13/2022) was courteous, engaging and helpful. Dr. Tran was great and I plan on having my yearly eye tests done by her. I've had pleasant experiences with Dr. Vu and the whole staff at this location. Everyone is very nice and accommodating, but it seems like there is a serious lack of communication between the doctor and the assistants. The whole office seems disorganized and doesn't seem to functionally operate together as a team. I've never experienced so many order errors, which are all not at my doing. My first visit at this location was back in 2017. I ordered contacts and glasses and received them both in good time, and I had no complaints about my experience. However a year later when I went for my yearly checkup in March 2018, the doctor notified me that my glasses prescription was off. Turns out the glasses I ordered from my 2017 visit had lenses using my old prescription previous to my 2017 visit. So a year later I find out my glasses have been the wrong prescription this whole time. The prescription error didn't cause me any problems minus some blurry vision while driving at night, but this is still very disconcerting since I paid A LOT of money for these glasses. My second visit was in March 2018 and I only ordered contacts this time. I was told they would come in 1 week from the date of my appointment, but did not receive them until 2.5 weeks after my appointment. Also, I had to keep calling for updates rather than the office letting me know that my order was delayed. I was also never told why my order was delayed, but I know it was not due to any errors on my end. I finally get my contacts 2.5 weeks later, but when I put them on I notice that my right eye (with astigmatism) is not focusing correctly and my vision remained blurry. I schedule a recheck on April 10, 2018 and turns out they got my prescription wrong again. At the time of the recheck, I ordered new glasses lenses with the correct prescription. Dr. Vu said they would also order new contacts for me with the right prescription, but I learned my lesson to call in and check to make sure there was nothing wrong with my order. I call the next day (April 11) to check the status of my order and was told my glasses lenses were ordered and should come in by Friday (April 13). I was also told my contacts were ordered. I call today (Friday, April 13) to make sure my glasses are ready for pickup and to check the status of my contacts order, but I was told that the assistant was told by Dr. Vu to only order a trial pair of contacts when I had originally ordered 4 boxes, which is a year supply. So now my order is backed up again and I'm not sure when I'll even receive my contacts. Long story short, the employees provide excellent customer service but lack the precision, accuracy, and organization that I think is extremely important when it comes to dealing with people's prescriptions. Everyone is nice, but there is a lack of professionalism in the office. All these mistakes were extremely careless and could have definitely been avoided if everyone in the office was more careful and paid more attention to detail. I've tried to be forgiving, but this will definitely be my last visit to this location. I simply cannot trust any of these people to do their job correctly. read more

I really loved my experience here yesterday. I came in to buy some glasses; I'm a traditional contact wearer, but all my time spent in front of my computer not blinking has made it hard to continue that trend, so I'm doing the 80-20 flip. Glasses 80% of the time and contacts 20% which equals more oxygen for my eyes and less red. I came in and stated what I wanted, "Some nice glasses that are comfy to wear, fashionable, durable, lightweight, oh, and they have to look cute on me." Jay Fagan, the handy optician said, "sure thing." He went into the Coach case where I indicated I had seen some cute glasses and picked out frames that he thought would match my face well. He seemed to be skilled in this because none of them were far off from being great and some went into the "yes" pile to be considered later. Jay also grabbed some off the wall and included "2nd pair choices" that were funkier and had a little more flair. I hope he doesn't take offense to this, but he made it feel like I was out shopping with a girlfriend. I haven't met many men that I'll take fashion advice from, but he was right on. Unfortunately I fell in love with two pairs and couldn't decide which one to get, so I blew all my allowance on an extra pair. The good thing is, if you buy a second pair, you get 50% off the frames, so the price won't kill you. They also fixed my current 5 year old pair of glasses that a screw fell out of and that made a world of difference. They take VSP here, so you don't have to wonder. I got a pretty good deal for that first pair of glasses. They are very nice here at MyEyeDr and the customer service is great. I wouldn't hesitate to go back to them for my next eye appointment or to recommend them to you. read more

I bought the Living Social deal for MyeyeDr which was to cover $225 for new glasses. I didn't have an exam. Unlike other reviews here, I was helped immediately and the guy I worked with was very friendly. He helped me pick out frames that would compliment my face and spent a lot of time with me. The frames I selected were $240 so needless to say, I was surprised when he rang me up and said, "Your total after the living social deal is $205." Excuse me? I bought $240 glasses with a deal worth $225. He added in a whole bunch of stuff I didn't want without asking my permission or taking me through the options. He added poly-carbonate lenses, glare coating, and a warranty. All of that added up to almost as much as the frames themselves. He did print out an itemized bill for me with all the things he'd added broken out after I requested it. The experience of picking out glasses was a good one, but if you go here, I would just advise asking about costs upfront. The Living Social deal is kind of misleading. You are definitely not walking away with new glasses for $35. read more

In continuing my quest to find a good pair of glasses, I stopped at My Eye Dr. I had seen a Living Social coupon for this place that worked out to $165 off. I got the coupon and went to pick out my new frames. The service is great for picking out frames. You're not left to wander the store alone, holding 10 pairs of potential frames in your hand. The salesperson picks out frames for you that fit your criteria. It actually made the experience pretty fun, and the salesperson understood exactly what I was looking for. I was willing to spend a bit more to get some fancy frames, as I've gotten bored with my frames in the past, but at the same time, I still don't want to be ripped off on the rest. It's sad, though, that in this world, you really have to stick up for yourself and not let yourself get taken advantage of over the price. The order form does NOT list prices, so the sales rep is free to make up whatever price he/she wants. They also do not go through different options with you. This was the worst part of the experience for me, as with other shops I have appreciated that they have at least offered me different choices and shown me a printed brochure of options. The salesperson tried to rush me through the pricing and tacking on extras. I told him I didn't want the extra coating ($120!). He lowered it to $60, but I insisted I didn't want it. So then he said he would include it for free. OK, now we have a deal. After I left the store, though, I looked at the price they charged me for the lenses and realized it was pretty high ($300). I also thought this might have had something to do with how easily the guy gave me a discount on the coating. So, I called around to the other stores (in the same chain) in this area, and found out that I had overpaid by at least $40. Even that might have been on the high end, but I figured it would be best to bargain from the same chain rather than another chain. I called the store back, asking if they could match the price, and they did. This is even after I'd already paid half my bill, so that's great. I am waiting to get the glasses to see how good they are. With the coupon and the other bargaining, I was able to get $377 off the original price. While that is nice, I would have liked to have seen more reasonable prices to begin with and less slimy sales tactics. I saw some older folks and families in the store, and it concerns me that the salespeople would try to take advantage of them also. Summary: there's room to haggle and good fitting assistance, but call around to area stores to find out prices for lenses so you don't get ripped off. read more

Conveniently on the corner of Georgia and colesville, you can park in either the lot directly on the corner (meters) or in Wayne ave garage like I did. I have to admit, I was drawn in by the $99 contact lens eye exam promotion, and didn't have the highest expectations. They were blown out of the water! Clean and bright, there were five staff members working and two waited on me immediately and seamlessly. Only minor forms required, thank god (although one is a soft sell for retinal photography for another $27). My appt is for 10:45...at 10:48 I'm in the glaucoma puff test chair. Nice. They also used a machine that tests your Rx to so the doctors exam is more efficient. Exam was speedy and the doctor was very, very nice (though he couldnt really answer my question about astigmatism...google, l'll see you in a few minutes). He even gave me a free 5-day supply. Now comes the really good part. The lady helping me, Delia, offers to match the price I'm currently paying for contacts online. They charge $88 for focus dailies, but honored the $35/box price I get at www.contactlensking.com. Woah..that's more than half off. Shrewd move, My Eye Doctor, you just nabbed someone else's business AND secured a loyal customer. And....BONUS... they have a Yelp check-in offer of a free pair of sunglasses, which they cleaned up and prepped for me with a nice case. And unlike the usual wall-o'-reject-glasses, they had a decent selection. And THEN, just before I leave, Delia, says "you know, I think you get a rebate on those since you got a years worth.". Turns out it's $100 rebate!! Cutting the bill from $370 to $270....and she walks me through the process!! I know she didn't have to go that extra step for me, but she seemed genuinely interested in helping since I wasn't using insurance. Simply unbelievable customer service. Walked out of there with crystal clear vision, funky new shades, and restored faith in customer service. Kudos! read more

Pretty unhelpful and clueless sales staff at this location, although the actual doctor is great. I visited two years in a row because I really loved the doctor on staff (can't remember his name, though.) The sales people, however, were another story. The first time I came I was shocked when I went to pay because I had meticulously calculated how much the insurance would pay and what my leftover cost would be. I was hit with a "contact fitting fee" for my contacts that was almost $100. I ended up paying almost $200 total, even though the exam was "free" and my medical insurance covered a big part of the actual contacts. I've worn contacts for more than 10 years now and have never heard of that fee, but I realized it's a regional thing and eye doctors in this area charge it. I still have no idea what it actually covers. But, beyond the fees, which the sales people can't control, the people who helped me pick out glasses were terrible. The woman kept suggesting really dated-looking frames even after I told her what I was looking for. The selection of frames at MyEyeDr locations in general, I've noticed, isn't great. My contacts were ordered but took nearly twice as long as they were supposed to take. To his credit, the manager did comp half the price. I would have rather just not have been charged bogus fees, but, I'll take it. read more

I was a new patient yesterday (7/1/16). The parking situation is terrible. Don't try the lot, go for the garage and the walk. My eye appointment lasted no more than 5 mins with the Doctor. Later on yesterday evening (about 4 hours) I developed a stye!!!!! Went in for an exam to see about my prescription. No stye when I went. How clean is the equipment? And if I got one, how many other people got one? I never saw the doctor clean the equipment. The tech cleaned the first machine. Needles to say, I won't be back for another stye. read more

After coming out of my appointment, i was told "look around, and let me know if you need me to open any cases for you." I did not receive personalized service in picking out a pair of lenses. This turned me off, so I asked to pay for the exam so that I could be on my way. I was told my copay was $20, but I already had paperwork saying my copay would be $10. She would have taken my $20 if I hadn't said anything because I asked her. I asked for my prescription so I could take it elsewhere to purchase a pair of glasses. She then told me that I have to wait for the doctor to write the prescription for me. I have been waiting for my prescription for 30 minutes, and am still waiting. Alan (I apologize if I have mispelled the name), the district manager for MyEyeDr, gave me a call as he was concerned after hearing that I had had a bad experience at the Silver Spring location. We had a discussion about the service (he agreed with me in that there are definitely ways to guide someone who is indecisive, i.e. me, into a decision about the best suitable eyeglasses by taking into account lifestyle and other factors.) As I had suspected, Joey was relatively new, so I can understand that dealing with me was a challenge that he might not have been ready for. Alan was very nice and wanted to make things right. As I mentioned in my conversation with him, although I was unhappy with the selection process, I was ultimately happy with the pair of glasses that I chose so I don't believe I will be heading back for awhile. He left me his cell # so if I changed my mind or wanted anything in the future, I could contact him. Overall, I can appreciate and am happy with my conversation with Alan because it showed me that they had an expectation for themselves when it came to customer service and I had had an abnormal experience. I'm raising my rating to 3.5/5, but I'm hesitant to say 4/5 ("I'm a fan") without having another a visit so it'll have to stay as a 3/5 ("A-OK"). read more

I called and made an appointment for the same day, later in the afternoon. The entire staff were friendly and welcoming. The Dr. saw me moments after arriving. He was helpful and answered my questions thoroughly. I then met with Anthony to discuss options for my eyewear. I told him I was looking for something different, bold, creative and, of course, flattering. He was on it! We started with a handful of frames and narrowed those down quickly. After modeling the frames... I was completely sold, but hesitant on the cost. Anthony walked me around the store to see if there was anything that fit my style AND price - which he might have missed. No luck. But considering that my appointment included a livingsocial deal... the funky, sassy, unique frames I fell in love with were a steal! Anthony was super helpful and made shopping for glasses fun! I'm anxiously awaiting for my glasses to come in! Over all a great experience. The price was right, the service was excellent... I went there because they take my vision insurance. The Doctor exam was fine and professional. the service after was catastrophic. i had to deal with a person who looked like he did not know what he was doing and did not care. After I paid ( I did not really see any discount from the insurance as I paid $200 for contact and eye exam...) I had to wait a long time to get an invoice. They told me they will call to let me know when my contacts arrive. I call 7 days later, they were unable to find my information and obviously had forgotten to order the contacts. I will not go back there as the service is so so. I will go back to Costco where the rates are lower for a good service even if they do not take my insurance. read more

In desperate need of a vision intervention, I made a call to My Eye Doctor. I was told they'd be able to see me the next day! Great. My experience was made much easier was able to answer my "this is my first time" questions (also known as medical history survey) before I went to the appointment. I was able to click boxes and talk about my past eye diagnosis while watching my favorite shows! Then came the appointment. That was smooth too. I worked with Dr. Victor. He's young, approachable and doesn't seem bored with his job. He found a nerve in my eye that was huge and although I forget what it means right now, I'm pretty sure it was an important find. The meeting time was less than 10 minutes and he was on it. In that time I had contacts, full eye check and perfect vision (because of the contacts). I still needed glasses tho... Cause in my profession I can be mistaken as a kid without them. That's when I met David! He was great. He went through the tedious process of picking or glasses that he thought would suit me based on the look I was trying to go for - a serious, mature but fun and youthful look. (poor David). Well, David rose to the occasion and found not one, but 9 different looks that fit my description. The glasses looked good and fit perfectly. I was told I'd get the glasses the same day! Errr?? Are you freaking kiddin? I don't have to crawl around for the next few days? I will be able to drive at night in a matter of minutes? Well, while I thought that, my composure was maintained. And wouldn't you know, I picked them up right after my quick nap. This is by far the better experience of some pretty sub-par service I have had with an eye doctor and/or glasses shop. I highly recommend them! Go and get you some of the free sunglasses. They are pretty cool and have a great amount of styles for saying they are free. I was floored with the great service and deal I got! I told myself all year that I needed to get new shades after misplacing my last pair. When I saw a living social deal for $50 for an eye exam and $225 towards a full set of (sun)glasses, I jumped on it. After making my purchase I read a few yelps to get a feeling for what other customer experiences were like and I was a little sketched out with what I was reading. I was under the impression the lenses and the frames were all marked up to high heavens and I'd have to pay a small fortune to get a pair of shades. A little background on myself, My insurance copay is outrageous and my eye plan is horrible (essentially the only thing covered under my plan are crap metal frames) so the past few years I've been resorting to paying cash for frames by going online for cheap frames and then getting the prescription filled at Costco. Even then, I'd be dropping about 200 dollars for imitation ray bans, or 65$ just to put lenses into my old frames. So I I rationalized that even if I couldn't get a decent set of frames and lenses, $50 is reasonable for an eye exam. The whole process was not more than half an hour and they had tons of customers. The doctor was knowledgeable and the exam was actually a lot more through than my old eye doctor (never seeing them again!) The frames are list price, so if you have an idea of what you want there's no reason to complain. The lenses were a reasonable price (the polarization option was a bit pricy though, a $130 markup!) and altogther the list price would have been about $340 for a set of prescription Ray Bans. With my coupon, I essentially just paid for the frames and got free lenses and a free eye exam. The salesperson did the math right in front of me and was transparent about all the costs; the experience has exceeded my expectations and I think they won themselves a new client. read more

I bought a Living Social deal for new eyeglasses and chose this location since it's 5 minutes from my job. OMG, these people are friendly! Every time I came in, I was immediately greeted by at least 1 person. When I checked in for my appointment with the optometrist and told the guy behind the counter I'd completed my paper work online, he called me awesome and hi-fived me :) After the eye exam, Walter helped me choose frames. He walked me all over the store explaining the different price points and styles. I'm shallow and materialistic and initially wanted Gucci frames but I decided to be thrifty and pick no-name frames that cost much less. I was surprised that Walter was very supportive, saying that they looked nicer on me than the Guccis and I should get them since they cost less. He also didn't give me a hard time when I declined to get a warranty or anti-glare coating. This was on Thursday and I was told my glasses would be ready by Wednesday. Not being in a rush, I said fine. Well on Monday I received a text that my glasses were ready for pick up. Hooray for fast service! read more

Both myself and my husband visited (during two separate appointments) and used our VSP insurance for an exam and new glasses. The staff were friendly, available, and helpful. The team are staffed at a level to keep the flow of customers moving. I was greeted and seen in a timely fashion. The whole experience took about 45-50 minutes...faster if I'd picked glasses faster. Francisco, Joey, and Ed all provided input to encourage me to try on glasses and pick ones that made sense for my face, sense of style, and the intended purpose of the glasses. They even offered to make me a deal on a second pair that I was hemming and hawing over. Although I'm not a Spanish speaker, I noticed that there were always two Spanish speakers available during all three visits, which I think is pretty awesome. Finally, our glasses were ready 1.5 weeks early and I really liked being notified by text. However, I wondered if they'd have called to follow-up in case I didn't get the text. read more

Terribly disorganized rude reception staff. I needed a prescription for eye drops and was told they couldn't send it to my pharmacy (weird because they had done so in the past). I stopped by to pick up the prescription and was given a photocopy of it because they couldn't find the original. Went to drop it off at CVS the next day and they said they couldn't fill a photocopy. So the pharmacist called My Eye Dr was they told him that I would have to come back in to get another copy. After complaining to them, they said they could fax it to the pharmacy. It took 2 tries for them to do it correctly. Why couldn't they fax it the first day? WHY DOES NO ONE WHO WORKS HERE KNOW HOW TO SEND PRESCRIPTIONS TO A PHARMACY? So glad that I picked My Eye Dr. of Silver Spring when searching for a new place to purchase eye wear and get my annual eye exams. I was greeted upon entering the store and felt like I was a longtime customer. The employees were extremely welcoming and made me feel at ease. Miguel is definitely my new best friend. He made me feel at ease and joked around with me; allowing me to feel as though I was a part of the My Eye Dr. "family." The Dr. was great and answered all my questions. I was running 8 minutes behind for my appointment and according to the Front Desk clerk, the Doctor "catches public transportation and can't stay late." MyEyeDr has a 15 minute grace period so why is it I was denied my exam for being 8 minutes late? read more

Great optometrist and very friendly staff. However, I was a bit frustrated at first because I was told that after ordering my contacts I'd be able to pick them up within a few business days, but when I called in over a week later I was told that they wouldn't be ready for another three days. I asked if I could pick up a trial pair since my current contacts were old and they said I could. Unfortunately, when I went to pick up my trial pair I found out that the wrong prescription had been ordered, so the very nice staff members gave me two trial pairs. The contact lens rep, Shirley, called me that afternoon and apologized, she was very nice and said she would try to get my contacts to their store right away. Once my contacts were ready Shirley called me and apologized for the delay, she also gave me two extra boxes. I was annoyed by the delay, but I feel the staff made up for it by being so nice and offering me additional trial pairs. I'd definitely go back to this location. read more

My Eye Doctor is a convenient location for me and has weekend times for me to get an eye exam. Dr. Vu is really nice. Afterwards Clark helped me. I told him that my contacts are cheaper online and they price matched and still applied my insurance. Their prices for contacts are discounted by a lot if you buy a year supply rather than per box, so the price matching only saved me a little money but that's good they do that. They informed me of a special they have going on to get 50% off frames and lenses with a year of contact lens purchase. With my prescription, my lenses would cost a lot so even with the discount it would be few hundred bucks. I asked could I wait a few weeks to get glasses and they said that was fine (still honoring the special). The downside is that when I order online it come delivered to my door. I still have to go pick up my contacts from the eye doctor. I've gone to My Eye Doctor other locations in the past and they won't approve prescriptions if you try to order online. Unless you order from a site that doesn't really check (like 1800contacts). read more

I came here a year ago for an eye exam. Dr. Vu was awesome, very straight to the point and matter of fact. I had to get new glasses and get my annual eye exam so I came back. I'm so glad I did. Alex, the Manager was immediately greeting me with his extremely friendly demeanor. Dr. Vu was fantastic as always. He listened to me if I had any concerns and paid attention to my needs. I'm so glad I went back to see him. Afterwards, I started looking for glasses. I said a couple specs that I really wanted, and a few of the eyewear consultants brought me different options that all addressed my wants and needs. Miguel paid particular attention and gave me great opinions, helping me choose my really awesome frames. I really felt taken care of and I was very happy with the quick and efficient service.
