If you are ever in Mystic, Connecticut you have to stop by Mystic River Chocolate Café. This spot has organic chocolate and espresso and it is amazing! I tried an affogato with chocolate ice cream and it was delicious. You really need to try the iced dirty chai latte. This was easily the best iced chai I have ever tried. After trying the chai I had to go back for se

While in Mystic and looking for a coffee spot, the two go tos were closed for the day. We came across the Mystic River Chocolate Cafe. This is a bit off the main road, so it's not as noticeable. This is the CUTEST spot if you love anything chocolate! The space inside is clean, with some tables, but the coffee options will blow your mind! With the summer season, they have even more cool and refreshing chocolate options. They have house made beers, beautifully crafted chocolates, a variety of specialty hot chocolate drinks. Since it was cold we got their signature hot chocolates and a latte. The hot chocolate is a must get if you're in the area. It is hot, chocolatey and piled high with whipped cream, chocolate shavings and even fudge. Yum! What a treat! Sadly the latte was a let down, it didn't have any of extravagant display and it was essentially all milk. There wasn't any coffee in it. The milk was still pleasantly warm on a cold day. As long as you have something chocolatey from the Mystic River Chocolate Cafe it is unlikely you would be at all disappointed. I cannot wait to return here in the summer to try more of their goodies.

Absolute perfection. Loved the amazing rich and luscious hot drinking chocolate. I added a shot of espresso and it was the best hot chocolate I've ever had. This is a true bean to bar chocolate cafe. Lots of indoor and outdoor seating. A perfect place to pick up that foodie in your life a different gift. The bars all looked insanely delicious. I picked up an 8 pack of truffles for $29.00. The drinking chocolate with espresso was a bit of a splurge at $11 bucks but for a special treat it was well, well, worth it. Relaxing music playing and the smell-you just wanted to bottle it up to smell later. Great service! Parking lot across the street if you don't get lucky enough to find on street parking.

I had the affagato which I liked here. They are known here for their chocolate of course, but I wasn't feeling on spending $13-16 to see how much I would like a chocolate bar. I like chocolate, but I like vanilla and creamy flavors more. So it wasn't worth the "risk" for me. I asked if samples were available and none were unfortunately. People are nice and ambiance is beautiful. No meal type food here to pick up and go. Despite it being a hot day, I tried to order a hot chocolate oat milk because several reviews said that only the hot version of their drinks came out well. They only had cold versions available except for coffee, cappuccino, and espresso. Nice place in Mystic.

I am such a fan of this place I can't even find the right words. Their drinking chocolate is unbelievably rich, prepare for a long journey of savoring it. It's basically melted chocolate, heavy cream, and some spices (optional) garnished with whipped cream and chocolate shavings. I will say, the hot drinking chocolate that they serve in the cooler months is quite a bit better than the iced chocolate that they serve during the summer. The owner/operator is an absolute gem, very kind and easy to talk to. His mannerisms make you feel both welcomed and at ease as soon as you walk in. The chocolate bars are quite good, though I wouldn't necessarily notice a difference between them and some of the higher end mass-produced chocolates on specialty store shelves. The photo here is from February 2020 and they don't use real mugs anymore, just travel cups, so unfortunately it's not quite as aesthetically pleasing anymore. So enjoy this throwback, instagram-worthy photo.

Got lucky finding this place. It's off the Main Street down an alleyway. I happened to turn around and see it. They gave a nice selection of chocolate bars and some teas. We ordered an oat milk hot chocolate. They have a few variations of hot chocolate available. It was delicious! There is a nice seating area where you can take a break and enjoy your beverages.

Stopped in for some great coffee... This quaint little caffeine and chocolate emporium is off the beaten path on Water Street. We were warmly greated by the barista. We ordered 2 cold drinks. One was a Iced mocha latte and the other a sugar free vanilla latte. Both were carefully crafted and brewed fresh In front of our eyes. They were both delicious. The best coffee we have had in Mystic to date. The atmosphere was warm and inviting. We sat and enjoyed our drinks looking out into the courtyard. If you visit the area, be sure to check them out. We were being good and did not sample their homemade chocolates...maybe next time!

We'd heard from friends that Shipwright's Daughter in Mystic was a must-try. Wow, were they right…read more From the warm greeting at the door to the beautiful decor, the experience started strong. We were seated at a lovely table for two overlooking Main Street - watching people stroll by from that elevated perch behind glass felt almost cinematic. The real star of the show was the food, which is ultimately what you're there for, and it delivered. The menu offers plenty of options without being overwhelming. I started with the Crispy Pig's Head as an appetizer - a bold choice that turned out to be outstanding. For my entrée, the bucatini with seacoast mushrooms, sherry, parmesan, mushroom cream, and fine herbs was perfectly cooked, and carried a subtle but deeply flavorful sauce. And the housemade sourdough with poblano honey butter? Absolutely outstanding. To be fair, our server took a little time to warm up but found their footing and gave us everything we needed. Parking in Mystic on a busy weekend night can also be a challenge and expensive. Neither is reason enough to skip this one. Ship Wright's Daughter is exactly the kind of restaurant Mystic deserves. Don't wait for a special occasion -- just go.

I really didn't want to write this review, but potential patrons should know what they can expect…read morewhen working with the event staff at Shipwright's Daughter - if they plan to have a private dining experience and event there. My husband and I got married last December. We decided we would hold off on celebrating with our family and invite everyone out from California to join us for a weekend full of activities in Connecticut and a special dinner at Shipwright's Daughter during Memorial Day weekend. We contacted the restaurant's events team to work out high level details starting in late January - to book a private room and hold a date and time. From the get go, the communication we received from the event staff was dismal to say the least. Not only did the events manager misquote the estimate for the room reservation, she came back and asked for a much higher price (up charging by an additional 30% of the original minimum fee) two months after we confirmed and discussed the date. She then explained it was due to the holiday weekend. Our date had never changed from the moment we inquired, so we would have appreciated knowing this upfront. Over the course of several months (and an absurd number of emails and a few calls), we tried to solidify the menu and wine selection and made multiple attempts before hearing back from the team. It was about two weeks before the big event when we were able to confirm a menu. It was about four days before the event that we heard back from the beverage director, but by then, my husband and I had already decided we would bring our own wine bottles, not wanting to leave it to chance with this team. I won't go into further details about the frustration we felt regarding their system for communications (they use an internal system that doesn't make it easy for guests to know who is copied on emails and who sees what). That is something I hope they will work out. When the big day came, I walked into the room and noticed there were a number of chairs missing, so I counted the chairs. They had an incorrect number of chairs for adults and not enough high chairs for the toddlers. We had requested a specific number of these chairs (weeks prior and mentioned it multiple times in writing), and I thought it was safe to assume that this was a basic checklist item for events set up. I was dumbfounded in the moment. I couldn't help but wonder what else they were going to miss or mess up that evening. It was disappointing to have our family members wait while the staff scrambled to pull other chairs into the room. From the time it took to take everyone's order from the set menu, the time between courses being served, and the attentiveness for pouring water and wine - all of it was a miss. The level of hospitality that we expected from a restaurant so recognized for its incredible food and approach to sustainable sourcing was completely overshadowed by the lack of attention and care by its staff - since day one of planning this event. Even a few of our family members commented on this during the dinner. At the end of the day, we felt like an obligation rather than welcomed guests, and that is mainly why I'm leaving this review. We had been patrons of Shipwright's a couple of times prior to this event, which is why we chose this establishment - to represent the best that Connecticut has to offer, when it comes to a dining experience we could vouch for. We no longer feel that we can recommend this restaurant. If you care about hospitality, I would recommend looking elsewhere.
